Triamid - The "Budget" Route

Triamid is a deck that focuses on the field spell to gain a good advantage. The monsters have the ability to quickly switch the field spell to another from the deck to better fit a situation, gaining a different effect from the newly placed field spell as well as an effect from the one that was discarded. This makes them quite consistent and reliable, making them a pretty good budget deck to use.

Example Core Triamid Cards

Triamid SphinxTriamid MasterTriamid MasterTriamid HunterTriamid HunterTriamid Hunter
Triamid DancerTriamid CruiserTriamid CruiserTriamid CruiserTriamid KingolemTriamid Kingolem
Triamid KingolemTriamid FortressTriamid FortressTriamid PulseTriamid Pulse-
  • You should have at least 1 copy of Triamid Sphinx as the deck's boss monster. Special Summon Sphinx with its own effect or when Kingolem is swapped out. While on the field Sphinx offers powerful damage output and essentially prevents the opponent from attacking.

  • All the low-level Triamid monsters share the effect of letting you cycle your Field Spell. This is highly useful in protecting your monsters from effect destruction by fetching Triamid Fortress.

  • Triamid Hunter is essential to your field Swarming ability, so summon him first when possible. Remember, more Triamid monsters on the field means more opportunities to cycle through your Field Spells.

  • Triamid Dancer gives a permanent stat boost and also recovers your Triamid Field Spells and sometimes monsters. Her presence on the field is also important to your beatdown potential.

  • You can have two Dancers on the field for double the boost every turn.

  • Get Triamid Cruiser out during the start of your turn for draw power. This helps you get Sphinx onhand quicker incase you don't have it yet. Don't worry about decking out as long as you have Dancer.

  • Triamid Kingolem is the Field Spell you want present most of the time because ATK boost is generally useful. However, you also want to cycle it out for its swarming effect. The solution is to use search effects twice to go from Kingolem>Fortress>Kingolem again.

  • The in-archetype Quick Effect of Triamid monsters lets you pull Triamid Fortress out of the deck in response to your opponent's destruction removal.

  • Triamid Pulse is a good compliment to all the cycling Triamid Decks do. The first effect is a removal for face-up cards Triamid Master cannot target. The second effect is a revival. The third effect recovers your Triamid Field Spells and lets you gain resources.

Example Filler Cards

Treacherous Trap HolePowersink StoneWall of Disruption---
  • Since Triamid Pulse is a continuous trap and the deck isn't trap heavy, you can use Treacherous Trap Hole since it's quite a powerful card in general. You only need to put 1 copy of it to prevent potential bricking, but putting 2 can help get it faster.

  • Since Triamid monsters can activate their effects even during your opponent's turn, you can effectively control Powersink Stone's effect to negate all of your opponent's face-up monsters. It's an incredibly powerful form of control, but it can also backfire on you if you don't use it properly.

  • It may take some turns to build up your monsters' attacks in the early turns, so having Wall of Disruption helps deal with higher attack enemy monsters. It can be a game-winning card if your opponent summons multiple monsters, and it's strong since the attack reduction is permanent.
Number 47: Nightmare SharkGaia Dragon, the Thunder ChargerNumber 70: Malevolent SinNumber 20: Giga-BrilliantGorgonic Guardian
Ghostrick AlucardDigital Bug Corebage---

You can make use of some generic rank 3 or 4 monsters to help with various situations such as dealing with difficult boss monsters, backrow, or clear up your monster space.

Superheavy Samurai Synchro - The “Budget” Route

This example assumes you pulled the full Future Horizon box once or at least pulled the Superheavy Samurai SR and UR cards. Most of the cards in this deck are R and all cards are found in a single box making the deck fairly cheap to build. The unique tactic used by Superheavy Samurais mean you will not need any of the staple Spell/Traps in your deck, adding to this card's cheapness.
In terms of power, The DEF of your Synchro monsters equipped with Superheavy Samurai Soulshield Wall can easily reach the level of Blue-Eyes decks' ATK.

Example Core Superheavy Samurai Synchro Cards

Superheavy Samurai Big BenkeiSuperheavy Samurai WagonSuperheavy Samurai WagonSuperheavy Samurai ScalesSuperheavy Samurai ScalesSuperheavy Samurai Soulpiercer
Superheavy Samurai SoulpiercerSuperheavy Samurai SoulpeacemakerSuperheavy Samurai SoulpeacemakerSuperheavy Samurai FlutistSuperheavy Samurai FlutistSuperheavy Samurai Soulshield Wall
Superheavy Samurai GigaglovesSuperheavy Samurai GigaglovesSuperheavy Samurai TrumpeterSuperheavy Samurai TrumpeterSuperheavy Samurai Trumpeter-
Superheavy Samurai Warlord SusanowoSuperheavy Samurai Stealth NinjaSuperheavy Samurai Stealth NinjaSuperheavy Samurai Ogre ShutendojiSuperheavy Samurai Ogre ShutendojiSuperheavy Samurai Swordmaster Musashi
  • Superheavy Samurai Big Benkei allows all of your “Superheavy Samurai” monsters attack from Defense Position. When they do, you use their DEF for damage calculation instead of their ATK. This makes Big Benkei becomes a 3500 ATK Big Attacker.

  • Superheavy Samurai Wagon searches for Superheavy Samurai Soul monsters which you can equip and gain various effects. Combo this with Superheavy Samurai Soulpeacemaker to Special Summon any Superheavy Samurai from your deck.

  • Superheavy Samurai Scales is a board extender for swarming 1 Level 4 or lower "Superheavy Samurai" monster from your Graveyard while it is normal summoned. With this effect, you can easily bring out Superheavy Samurai Synchro monster.

  • To use Superheavy Samurai Soulpeacemaker defensively, it should be attached to one of your Synchro monsters with high defense so your opponent will have nothing to attack.

  • Superheavy Samurai Soulpiercer gives the equipped monster piercing damage. But more importantly it lets you search a Superheavy Samurai monster when it sent to the graveyard. Some of the quickest ways to send Soulpiercer from your field to the graveyard include using it as Synchro Material, or tributing it for Superheavy Samurai Soulpeacemaker's effect.

  • Superheavy Samurai Soulshield Wall gives the equipped monster a large DEF boost. Considering that Superheavy Samurai monsters battle using their DEF stat, this makes the equipped monster a powerful beater. Soulshield Wall's second effect can be used to stall, letting your monster survive but with all of its defense gone.

  • Superheavy Samurai Flutist is more valuable while in the graveyard. This lets him protect the more important Superheavy Samurai monster from targeting effects.

  • Superheavy Samurai Gigagloves acts as a battle trap while in the graveyard. In a pure Superheavy Samurai deck, you will always excavate a Superheavy Samurai monster with his effect. Reducing your opponent's attack to 0 while it attacks your defense position monster can let you deal a considerable amount of damage. And since the debuffed monster will not be destroyed by battle, you can keep dealing damage through it during your turn.

  • Superheavy Samurai Trumpeter is a self Special Summoning Tuner you can easily pair with level-4 monsters to make Superheavy Samurai Ogre Shutendoji. Anything higher than level-6 however will usually need 3 synchro materials.

  • Superheavy Samurai Warlord Susanowo 's Speed 2 Effect can quickly grab 1 of your opponent's Spell/Trap Cards from their Graveyard to your own field, and that card will also be banished to prevent the recycle used in the Graveyard when leaving the field.

  • Superheavy Samurai Stealth Ninja can OTK your opponent with its direct attack effect when equipped with both Soulshield Wall and Soulhorns.

  • Superheavy Samurai Ogre Shutendoji can wipe out all your opponent's backrow.

  • Superheavy Samurai Stealth Ninja can OTK your opponent with its direct attack effect when equipped with both Soulshield Wall and Soulhorns.

Example Filler Cards

Sphere KuribohKiteroidSuperheavy Samurai Prepped DefenseSuperheavy Samurai Soulhorns--
  • No Spell/Trap cards. The first rule of making a Superheavy Samurai deck is not to use any Spell/Trap cards. This is required so that you won't cripple your own monsters' effects.

  • Because you cannot use Spell/Trap cards, Sphere Kuriboh and Kiteroid are the closest thing you have to battle traps. A single Kiteroid can prevent 2 lethal direct attacks when you get caught in a bad spot.

  • Superheavy Samurai Prepped Defense is an OTK preventer that can be special summoned while you take battle damage, also it cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects on that turn which can allows you save this monster for Synchro Summoning next turn.

  • Superheavy Samurai Soulhorns should be equipped to your Synchro monsters, letting your powerhouse monster attack twice per turn.
Superheavy Samurai Steam Train KingSamurai DestroyerSuperheavy Samurai Beast Kyubi---
  • Superheavy Samurai Steam Train King can remove up to 2 cards of your opponent control and also banish all Spells and Traps from either players' Graveyard to deals 100 damage to your opponent for each card banished which will to prevent the recycle used in the Graveyard too.

  • Samurai Destroyer has a powerful effect that can allow it to attack into a monster safely. Preventing the use of enemy spell/trap, handtraps, or monster effects until it's done attacking. Since the deck uses mostly machine type monsters, Samurai Destroyer's last effect will also work in this deck so you can float into a different monster.

  • Superheavy Samurai Beast Kyubi is the level 9 synchro monster of this archetype. It works like the other ones, but can get high DEF by itself. Rarely will you ever need this since it's better to empower the level 7 with consistent ways, which can allow you to win already without the level 9.

Which Boxes are worth investing in?

Which packs should a new player open first? This is the question I want to answer in this section.

While there are certainly a lot of great cards in almost every single one of these BOXes, not all of them are currently relevant: a certain card or even a whole archetype might become very good in the future, but what I will mention here are mostly the ones that are staples in current meta decks and cards that are extremely versatile in general.

In order to properly understand how important these cards are, I will assign each one of them a number that represents the priority a player should give to them from 1 to 3 (1 being high priority and likely relevant in the current meta and 3 low priority and not currently relevant, but worth mentioning because of its versatility).

Structure Deck

Terms [Updated]

General Terms

SD: (Standard Duelist) Generic duelists that spawn in both Duel World and Duel World GX; you beat them to obtain mainly Gold, Jewels, some low rarity cards and Gate Keys.

LD: (Legendary Duelist) Duelists you can face at the Gate using Gate Keys that can also spawn randomly in Duel World one at a time; you beat them to obtain their unique cards.

Farm(ing): The act of repeatedly beating a Legendary Duelist with a specific deck aimed towards achieving higher scores in order to obtain more and better drops.

PvE: (Player vs Environment) Any type of content in which the player faces an AI.

PvP: (Player vs Player) Any type of content in which the player has to face another player.

KoG: (King of Games) The highest rank you can obtain in PvP.

Card Trader: The character that stands in front of the shop: you can interact with him to exchange materials (Gold, Jewels) for the cards he offers. The cards change every 8 hours, but some of them are always available.

UR: An Ultra Rare card, the highest rarity currently in Duel Links. In each box only one copy of each UR is included.

SR: A Super Rare card. In a main box (180 packs), each SR will have 2 copies included, while in a mini box (100 packs) there will only be one copy of each SR in that box.

Resetting a box: If you are looking to get multiple copies of a UR/SR card from a box, you might want to reset the box when you get it in the first couple of packs, which will put the amount of packs back at 180 or 100 (depending on the box) so you can pull it again.

Skill: In Duel Links you can link a skill to a deck, which will add some sort of advantage. Each character has their own unique exclusive skills that they can learn from levelling up, but they can also obtain skills through a random drop when you duel against Legendary Duelists or PvP.

Legendary Duelist: A legendary duelist is a character from the TV show, these duelists can drop more precious rewards than standard duelists.

Gaming Terms

Backrow: Term that refers to defensive Spell and Traps.

Backrow removal: Cards that can destroy or banish your opponent’s backrow; an example of a backrow removal card is Cosmic Cyclone.

Beatdown Deck: A deck that focuses on applying pressure with high ATK monsters.

Beatstick / Beater: A monster likely used just for its ATK value and not for its effect.

Brick: A card that you essentially do not want to draw (but seemingly love to be in your starting hand); examples are Bacon Saver in a Red-Eyes Zombie deck and Wulf, Lightsworn Beast in a Lightsworn deck.

Burn: A strategy centered around repeatedly damaging your opponent with cards’ effects.

Burn Deck: A deck that focuses on burning the opponent.

Deck out: When you run out of cards in your deck and can’t conduct your Draw Phase.

Deck thinning: Generic term that refers in general to decreasing the number of cards in your main deck by adding a card(s) to your hand, sending card(s) from the deck to the Graveyard, Special Summoning a monster(s) from the deck or placing a card(s) in your Spell/Trap Zone from the deck.

Engine: A minimum of two cards in a deck that have good synergy.

Floater / Float: A card that is able to replace itself; an example can be Crystal Seersince the card adds a card to your hand when flipped face-up, essentially replacing itself in your hand.

Handtrap: A card that can be activate from your hand in response to a specific action by your opponent; an example is Sphere Kuriboh, a monster that can be discarded in order to avoid an attack and switch the attacking monster into Defense position.

META: (Most Effective Tactic Available) A term that refers to the current situation in PvP; a META deck is a deck that is a deck that is successful at the current moment.

Mill: Terms that refers to lowering the number of cards in the deck by sending a card(s) from the deck to the Graveyard or banishing a card(s) from the deck.

Mill Deck: A type of deck that focuses on decking out the opponent.

Nerf: Nerfing a card means altering its effect or ruling or limiting its usage.

Pitch: Sending a chosen card from the deck to the graveyard or banish zone.

Recycling: A term that usually refers to utilizing cards that were sent to the Graveyard again; an example can be Sphere Kuriboh since, after being discarded by its effect, it can still be used as tribute for a Ritual monster.

Scoop: Forfeiting a match.

Searcher: A card that can add a specific card or type of cards from your deck to your hand; an example is Gravekeeper's Recruiter, a monster that can add another Gravekeeper’s monster from your deck to your hand when sent from the field to the Graveyard.

Stall: A strategy usually centered around avoiding damage from the opponent.

Stall Deck: A deck that focuses on avoiding damage from the opponent, likely utilizing cards that can slow them down like Floodgate Trap Hole, Paleozoic Canadia or Massivemorph.

Splashable Card: A splashable card is a card that can be useful in many in different deck but does not affect the overall strategy of the deck; an example is Enemy Controller.

Swarm: A strategy centered around summoning multiple monsters on the field at once; a “Swarm Deck” that’s currently very relevant is Fur Hire.

Synchro Climb: Using a Synchro monster to make another higher-level Synchro monster.

Tech: Normally refers to cards put in the Side Deck in order to have a better matchup against a certain type of deck, but in Duel Links this use doesn’t exist so it usually refers to single cards placed in a deck to face a certain deck. Example sentence: “Necrovalley is a good tech against decks that recycle the graveyard”.

Top-decking: In a very critical situation, drawing the exact you needed is referred to as “top-decking”.

It is near to closing down, plus it is made in China.

In Feb 2023 I believe that Infernoids would be a great deck to start off with that is all in one box and other pieces can be added to make it better slowly over time

Dinomists are good times if you can draw into the field spell. Otherwise, I'd recommend throwing gems at Abyss Dweller until you get one and then fill up with rank 4 and 5 XYZ monsters like Diamond Crab and Digvorak, King of Heavy Industry as tech/beatdown options.

great article
you forgot the magnets on Guardians of Rock box

Really if you are a new player just build a cyber dark deck with tickets and go as far as you can in pvp and events until you hoard 10k gems

I rerrolled account 15 times and even with the current 50% off sales the most I could do was complete triamid like at 60% and with shiranui I didn't even got at a 50% of the deck

The game basically forces you to pay a fee in the shape of 3 structure deck to even begin to play the game Otherwise you won't play pvp until 6 or 8 months after you save enough for a so so deck

Fortress of Gears for Aromage cards. Only 1 of them is SR (continuous trap) and its all you need because the rest are N or R and you can buy the rest of the cards in the card trader.
Why build this deck? this is one of the most cheap and best farm deck (you still need the winged dragon of Ra) and can deal with all the gate missions and stall decks (for some reason, theres a lot of them in low ranked (especialy gold))

Don't try to build Aroma decks. They're slow. They're boring. And they're really bad.

^ This.

But, if you desperately want an aroma deck dont try to get the super rare card in this mediocre mini box. Just get the common/rares and call it a day. You will surely regret every single gem spending in this deck.

Invest in Levianeer.

The card won't be powercrepted in at least 5 more years if duel links even get that long. Maybe the chaos deck that use it will be hit and you have to change to another chaos deck but not the Levianeer card itself.

The 2 other older 8 star chaos cards, CED and BLS have exist and being useful in tcg for decade. CED even need to be nerfed errata to be unbanned.

Just for reference of how long live the good chaos cards are.
