If you run the continuous trap "Xyz Veil", there is no window and your Basiltrice will be untargettable already on summon. Then you can put more overlay units and it'll be untargettable not depending on Xyz Veil.

Pillar + peryton + 2 other hazys?

1 Pillar + 1 Peryton + 1 Hydra + 1 other hazy
Activate Pillar, normal summon Peryton, special summon Hydra and Sphynx from deck by tributing Peryton and discarding Hydra on hand, activate Sphynx effect and revive Hydra from gy, if you get lucky and flip a hazy from Sphynx effect you can get 6 in 1 turn, or else 5 at most.

A better option would be to use generic backrow removal cards. Continuous trap is too slow in the current environment, while we're waiting for that 1 turn to pass, most of the decks we face can just otk us without a sweat.

Those decks can’t just run over Basiltrice that has got a hand with a field to protect it. It’s hard to get a complete field with Hazy but if the other cards keep the field for Xyz Veil to shine it will.

also Ascalon isn't even that meta compared to Cocytus.

Almost all Hazy Flame monsters are immune to targeting, but this card needs 4 Xyz materials (so you must use the effect of Hazy Pillar at least once) to have the same protection. It's the best to summon this bad boy with Rekindling, otherwise generic traps would make your field wide-open...

^^Ok, let's say we go second, we get our dream hand, we set up this card with 5 xyz materials using pillars and hydras.

Our opponent goes second, they summon samurai destroyer, big atk verre, saber dancer, the lvl 11 blackwing or a buffed purgatrio. They then destroy this, suddenly we went -5 in card advantage.

Our dream hand must also include disruptive cards that beat those and their hand must be without cards that remove them. That's not very likely.

Basically, people still have to use their brain, even when using Balance as skill, so I disagree with the notion that Balance is brainless.

Yes, it does. Try running only 5 spells, you can't right? The skill is forcing you to play a certain number of spells.

the ratios of the cards? You don't come up with them, the machine is imposing them to you.
You go 3 of the spell you want and 3 of whatever other good spell you have, you don't care about bricking the machine will fix your hand

All these weaknesses listed here are not used by stall burn. So Hazy continues to be one of the best decks that deal with them.

again, you are only forced to run certain number of cards, and that's it.

But deckbuilding isn't just about number of cards.

There are other aspects, aspects that Balance doesn't enforce on you.

The card is okay, is has its weaknesses: like the window between summoning it with 3 materials and attaching a 4th material leaves it very vulnerable plus the usual floodgate. But if you pull it off you get a good boss monster

The hazy deck overall really hinders this card, not being able to run spell/traps is a big downside

Not really Hydra can attach more material though only 1. Pillar is okay but if you start running more spell/traps your sphinx effect will never resolve

There's a skill that guarantees you get Sphinx's effect off always unless you have 0 cards in your deck. It's "Aroma Tactics", always see the top card of your deck. This way you can run many Pillars and not risk.

Tried it, bricks more often than any normal not tiered deck, traps do work in your first turn but after you just depend of top decking. labyrinth builder gets you the xyz first turn but with the drawback I mentioned above

Well, there are drawbacks both ways. I do use trap cards because there are some cards from the opponent that need to be stopped before Basiltrice can be set up. But it’s not an easy setup anyway.
