update 05/11/2021

Overview

While the Pendulum cards haven't reached their full maturity yet, putting some of them together can make them usable enough to showcase their unique specialty of being able to bring back destroyed monsters every turn, allowing them to use powerful monster effects each time they come back.

How to Play

Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon

Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon
Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon
DARK Dragon ★7
ATK 2500 / DEF 2000
Pendulum Genesis [UR]
[ Pendulum Effect ]
You can reduce the battle damage you take from an attack involving a Pendulum Monster you control to 0. During your End Phase: You can destroy this card, and if you do, add 1 Pendulum Monster with 1500 or less ATK from your Deck to your hand. You can only use each Pendulum Effect of "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" once per turn.
[ Monster Effect ]
If this card battles an opponent's monster, any battle damage this card inflicts to your opponent is doubled.

A searcher for your other pendulum monsters, but it's pretty slow since it activates in the end phase. Use this to search for the monsters to be used as the scales, and then the monsters you want to summon later on.

Ideally, you want to have Gongato as the low scale and Rain Bozu or Dragonpit Magician as the high scale. This lets you pendulum summon level 3 ~ 7 every turn, which is how this deck summons Aether, Odd-Eyes, and Eccentrick to the field.

Once you're able to pendulum summon multiple Aethers, you can consider using the field spell to destroy Gongato so you can place an Odd-Eyes as one of the scales. This helps avoid 1 battle damage, which can potentially be better than taking 0 direct attack damage. In the end phase, you can activate Odd-Eyes to further filter your cards in deck.

Block Direct Attack

The deck might struggle in the earlier turns because the main searcher for the deck is pretty slow. You can stall the duel by using these cards to prevent any damage taken.

Performapal Gongato
Performapal Gongato
EARTH Beast ★1
ATK 100 / DEF 100
Yuya Sakaki at Lvl 11, and 21 [UR]
Pendulum Effect
Once per turn, when an opponent's monster declares a direct attack: You can activate this effect; you take no battle damage from that battle (even if this card leaves the field).

Monster Effect
Once per turn, when an attack is declared involving a monster you control and an opponent's monster: You can activate this effect; you take no battle damage from that battle.

Consider this as an early priority to fetch with Odd-Eyes' effect. The pendulum effect blocks one direct attack every turn, but can also end up making your opponent use their spell/trap card removal early.

Kiteroid
Kiteroid
WIND Machine ★1
ATK 200 / DEF 400
Card Trader [SR]
Activate when you discard this card from your hand during damage calculation after a direct attack. Any Battle Damage you would receive from that direct attack becomes 0. Only once, if you remove this card from the game when it is in your Graveyard, any Battle Damage you would receive from a direct attack becomes 0.

The deck won't be summoning monsters casually before being able to pendulum summon, so Kiteroid works the best compared to the other hand traps. This can help you control the damage that you take, which also helps you get to Destiny Draw easier.

Archfiend Eccentrick

Archfiend Eccentrick
Archfiend Eccentrick
LIGHT Fiend ★3
ATK 800 / DEF 1000
Selection Box Vol.01 Super Mini [UR]
Pendulum Effect
You can target 1 other Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy both it and this card. You can only use this effect of "Archfiend Eccentrick" once per turn.

Monster Effect
You can Tribute this card, then target 1 monster on the field; destroy it. You can only use this effect of "Archfiend Eccentrick" once per turn.

It's fine to use this early on as a pendulum effect to just destroy a spell/trap. Once you can pendulum summon, you can bring this back every turn from the extra deck for a quick and easy monster removal.

Rain Bozu

Rain Bozu
Rain Bozu
WATER Fairy ★7
ATK 0 / DEF 0
Zuzu Boyle at Lvl 10, 18, and 23 [SR]
Pendulum Effect
Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster you control; it gains ATK equal to the difference between the number of cards in the Extra Decks x 100, until the end of this turn (even if this card leaves the field).

Monster Effect
Gains ATK during your turn only, and gains DEF during your opponent's turn only, each equal to the difference between the number of cards in the Extra Decks x 200. If this card attacks, it is changed to Defense Position at the end of the Battle Phase. If this card in the Monster Zone is destroyed: You can place this card in your Pendulum Zone.

Mainly used because of its high pendulum scale. The pendulum effect can give a small ATK bonus, but not that important.

The monster effect isn't really good enough to be worth summoning this on its own, but since it's also a level 7, this can be used to make a rank 7 XYZ with another level 7.

Aether, the Empowering Dragon

Aether, the Evil Empowering Dragon
Aether, the Evil Empowering Dragon
DARK Dragon ★6
ATK 2300 / DEF 1600
Selection Box Vol.01 Super Mini [SR]
Pendulum Effect
Once per turn: You can banish 1 "Empowered Warrior" monster from your Graveyard, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it.

Monster Effect
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can target 1 monster on the field; banish it.

The pendulum effect isn't usable in this deck, and being a scale of 4 makes this bad to be used as a pendulum scale. Don't set this as a pendulum monster unless you have the field spell ready to get rid of it, otherwise, you'll be stuck with an unusable pendulum zone.

The monster effect is pretty good, but what makes this a really good card is simply because it's a pendulum monster. If it gets destroyed, it goes back to the extra deck, allowing you to pendulum summon it, again and again, every turn.

If you ever get 2 or more on the board, you can make a rank 6 after their effect has been used. But doing this and activating the rank 6 effect will send the Aether to the grave, not extra deck.

Dragonpit Magician

Dragonpit Magician
Dragonpit Magician
WATER Spellcaster ★7
ATK 900 / DEF 2700
Magicians Arc [UR]
Pendulum Effect
Once per turn, if you have a "Magician" card in your other Pendulum Zone: You can discard 1 Pendulum Monster, then target 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy it.

Monster Effect
This gifted magician can awaken the energy stored in the deep places of the earth, known as the Pits of the Dragon. His stoic approach wins him few friends, and he often bends to the desires of his pupil.

High scale to help with pendulum summoning, level 7 to make a rank 7 XYZ with Odd-Eyes, and a normal monster so this can be special summoned from the deck by using Ebon Illusion Magician.

Sky Iris

Sky Iris
Sky Iris
Field Spell
Pendulum Genesis [UR]
Your opponent cannot target "Magician", "Performapal", or "Odd-Eyes" cards in your Pendulum Zones with card effects. You can target 1 other face-up card you control; destroy it, and if you do, add 1 "Odd-Eyes" card from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Sky Iris" once per turn.

It's a searcher for Odd-Eyes, which is the searcher to the other pendulum cards. Since this deck doesn't use a skill that makes pendulum zones, the first effect isn't usable at all.

The destruction effect can help you unclog your field if you ever set a bad scale on board, or want to change to a different pendulum monster as the scale. It can even get rid of your monster if it ever gets locked up by something like Fiendish Chain.

Extra Decks

Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack
Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack
WIND Machine ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 2200
Sign of Harpies [UR]
2 Level 7 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Special Summon 2 "Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens" (Machine-Type/WIND/Level 3/ATK 0/DEF 0). While you control a Token, this card cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects. Once per turn: You can Tribute 1 "Mecha Phantom Beast" monster, then target 1 card on the field; destroy that target. This card cannot attack during the turn you activate this effect.

If you can only bring out 2 level 7s, this is a decent monster to bring out to protect against multiple attacks, or for the first turn.

The destruction effect is also nice since you can target any card, not just a monster.

Constellar Ptolemy M7
Constellar Ptolemy M7
LIGHT Machine ★6
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Infinite Ray [UR]
Selection Box Vol.03 Mini [UR] [UR]
2 Level 6 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a "Constellar" Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material, other than "Constellar Ptolemy M7". (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If Summoned this way, the following effect cannot be activated this turn. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 monster on the field or in either player's Graveyard; return that target to the hand.

Offers a pretty strong form of removal, but also has the added utility of being able to return a card from the grave to the deck.

This can be used to get rid of a strong boss monster, disrupt your opponent's plays, or recover your pendulum monster from the grave to hand.

Ebon Illusion Magician
Ebon Illusion Magician
DARK Spellcaster ★7
ATK 2500 / DEF 2100
Pendulum Genesis [SR]
2 Level 7 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a Rank 6 Spellcaster-Type Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Special Summon 1 Spellcaster-Type Normal Monster from your hand or Deck. When a Spellcaster-Type Normal Monster declares an attack: You can target 1 card your opponent controls; banish it. You can only use this effect of "Ebon Illusion Magician" once per turn.

Lets you special summon Dragonpit Magician from the deck and can banish an opponent's monster. But you'll have to attack with Dragonpit Magician, which has very low ATK to do this.

Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon
Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon
DARK Dragon ★7
ATK 2800 / DEF 2400
Selection Box Vol.03 Mini [SR]
2 Level 7 monsters
Cannot be destroyed by card effects while it has Xyz Material. While this card has Xyz Material, each time your opponent activates a card or effect, inflict 500 damage to your opponent immediately after it resolves. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 "Red-Eyes" Normal Monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it.

Detach effect isn't usable since there are no Red-Eyes in the deck, but it's here to have some effect damage in case you need just a little more to finish off your opponents.

Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger
Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger
WIND Dragon ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 2100
Infinite Ray [SR]
2 Level 7 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a Rank 5 or 6 Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.

The level 6 monsters in the deck are pretty good so the rank-up effect might rarely be used. This can be situationally good if you end up going against defensive opponents, especially if they use decks that use low DEF monsters like zombies.

Photon Strike Bounzer
Photon Strike Bounzer
LIGHT Warrior ★6
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Photons of Galaxy [SR]
2 Level 6 monsters
Once per turn, during either player's turn, when a monster effect is activated on your opponent's side of the field: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the effect, and if you do, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent.

Bringing this out as a turn 1 play can be very good to help with some control, but you won't have any follow-up plays later on since the pendulum monsters won't end up in the extra deck.

Against certain decks that rely on monster effects on the field, this can be an important play, so you'll have to carefully consider when summoning this.

Sword Breaker
Sword Breaker
EARTH Warrior ★6
ATK 2700 / DEF 1000
Shining Hope [R]
2 Level 6 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to declare 1 Monster Type; this card gains the following effect. At the start of the Damage Step, if this card battles a monster of a Type that has been declared: Destroy that monster.

A lot of decks play the same monster type because of the archetype synergy. Having this can mean that you can destroy just about any monster they summon through Sword Breaker's card effect, but it can be pretty slow since you won't be dealing any battle damage at all.

Nice deck, but is there any good Pendulum deck that uses the skill Swing Into Action?
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Usually, that skill isn't necessary at all. Pendulum decks like to run many monsters and thus don't run much backrow anyway. That's why they can live with the 1 spell/trap card zone that is remaining.

Trash Deck!!!
Buy 3 structure deck just for dragonpit magician. This site is helping konami milking more money from player

.....there's not even a single Book of Moon in the sample deck above.

Also, the Dragon Magicians in the structure deck are not that bad. They're actually among the best generic Pendulums we have right now.

Why waste your money just for 1 card and you need 3 of it to make this deck

there's too much other stuff wrong with this decklist for you to complain about 3 of a structure deck vanilla
