Duel Links Pendulum deck, Pendulum deck in the meta, how to play T.G. deck.
update 24/03/2023

Overview

While the Pendulum cards haven't reached their full maturity yet, putting some of them together can make them usable enough to showcase their unique specialty of being able to bring back destroyed monsters every turn, allowing them to use powerful monster effects each time they come back.

Set Skill

[Skill] descriptionUser
Hero Shall Cast Its Light
At the beginning of the Duel, add Pendulum Zones to your field.
If you control "Timebreaker Magician", the following effects can be used once per Duel.

● Add 1 "Tuning Magician" from your Deck to your Hand.
● Change the Level of 1 Level 3 or lower Spellcaster-Type monster you control to 4.

During the turn you use this effect, you cannot use that monster as a material for Xyz Summoning a monster, and Spellcaster-Type Synchro Monsters you control gain 500 ATK.

This Skill can only be used/applied if you begin the Duel with an Extra Deck that contains at least 3 Synchro Monsters, including "Enlightenment Paladin".

How to Play

Odd-Eyes

Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon and Odd-Eyes Arc Pendulum Dragon are both great additions.

Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon is a powerful monster that can deal doubled battle damage to your opponent when it attacks an opponent's monster. It also has a Pendulum Effect that can reduce the battle damage you take to 0 when a Pendulum Monster you control is attacked, and a second Pendulum Effect that allows you to search for a Pendulum Monster with 1500 or less ATK at the end of the turn it was destroyed.

Odd-Eyes Arc Pendulum Dragon, on the other hand, has a Pendulum Effect that allows you to Special Summon an "Odd-Eyes" monster from your hand, Deck, or GY when an "Odd-Eyes" card you control is destroyed by battle or card effect. This can be very useful for recovering from your opponent's attacks or removing cards from your GY. However, it can only be used once per turn.

Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon
Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon
DARK Dragon ★7
ATK 2500 / DEF 2000
Pendulum Genesis [UR]
Pendulum Effect
You can reduce the battle damage you take from an attack involving a Pendulum Monster you control to 0. During your End Phase: You can destroy this card, and if you do, add 1 Pendulum Monster with 1500 or less ATK from your Deck to your hand. You can only use each Pendulum Effect of "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" once per turn.
Monster Effect
If this card battles an opponent's monster, any battle damage this card inflicts to your opponent is doubled.
Odd-Eyes Arc Pendulum Dragon
Odd-Eyes Arc Pendulum Dragon
DARK Dragon ★7
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Fantastic Arc [UR]
Pendulum Effect
If an "Odd-Eyes" card(s) you control is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can Special Summon 1 "Odd-Eyes" monster from your hand, Deck, or GY. You can only use this effect of "Odd-Eyes Arc Pendulum Dragon" once per turn.

Monster Effect
Made from miracles, this valiant and beautiful dragon has gleaming eyes that reflect an arc drawn in the sky.

Performapals

Performapal Skullcrobat Joker
Performapal Skullcrobat Joker
DARK Spellcaster ★4
ATK 1800 / DEF 100
Yuya Sakaki at lvl 33 & 35 [UR]
Pendulum Effect

You cannot Pendulum Summon monsters, except "Performapal" monsters, "Magician" Pendulum Monsters, and "Odd-Eyes" monsters. This effect cannot be negated.

Monster Effect
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 "Performapal" monster, "Magician" Pendulum Monster, or "Odd-Eyes" monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Performapal Skullcrobat Joker".

Performapal Skullcrobat Joker is a great way to search out other key Performapal, Magician Pendulum, or Odd-Eyes monsters from your Deck. This can help you set up your Pendulum Zones and have access to the cards you need for your strategy. Additionally, its Pendulum Effect is very useful, allowing you to Pendulum Summon only certain types of monsters, which can help you focus your strategy.

Performapal Secondonkey
Performapal Secondonkey
EARTH Beast ★4
ATK 1000 / DEF 2000
Idea of Armageddon [SR]
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can send 1 "Performapal" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard, except "Performapal Secondonkey". If you have 2 cards in your Pendulum Zones, you can add it to your hand instead.

Performapal Secondonkey is also a great card for searching out Performapal monsters from your Deck, either by sending them to the Graveyard or by adding them to your hand if you have two cards in your Pendulum Zones. This can help you set up your Pendulum Zones quickly and efficiently, allowing you to start summoning your monsters and executing your strategy.

Magician Pendulum

Xiangke Magician
Xiangke Magician
DARK Spellcaster ★7
ATK 2500 / DEF 500
Cross Dimension [SR]
Pendulum Effect
Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up Xyz Monster you control; this turn, you can use it as an Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon using its Rank as if it were a Level (even if this card leaves the field).

Monster Effect
Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can target 1 LIGHT monster on the field; negate that face-up monster's effects until the end of this turn.

Xiangke Magician can be a good addition as it provides a way to use Xyz Monsters as Xyz Materials for Xyz Summons. Its monster effect can also be useful in negating the effects of LIGHT monsters on the field.

Timebreaker Magician
Timebreaker Magician
DARK Spellcaster ★3
ATK 1400 / DEF 0
Raiders Requiem [SR]
Pendulum Effect
Each turn, the first Pendulum Monster(s) you control that would be destroyed by an opponent's card effect, is not destroyed.

Monster Effect
When this card is Pendulum Summoned from the hand (and no other cards are Pendulum Summoned at the same time): You can make this card's ATK become double its original ATK. Once per turn: You can target 1 monster on the field; banish both it and this card from the field, but return them in your next Standby Phase.

Timebreaker Magician's Pendulum effect can protect your Pendulum Monsters from being destroyed by your opponent's card effects, which can be very helpful in maintaining field presence. Its monster effect can also be useful in dealing with problematic monsters on the field by banishing both the targeted monster and itself, only to return during the next Standby Phase.

Nobledragon Magician
Nobledragon Magician
FIRE Spellcaster ★3
ATK 700 / DEF 1400
Force of Infinity [SR]
Pendulum Effect
Unless you have a "Magician" card in your other Pendulum Zone, destroy this card.

Monster Effect
Cannot be used as a Synchro Material, except for the Synchro Summon of a Dragon-Type Synchro Monster. If this card is used as a Synchro Material, unless all other Synchro Materials are "Odd-Eyes" monsters, place this card on the bottom of the Deck. If this card is in your hand or Graveyard: You can target 1 Level 7 or higher "Odd-Eyes" monster you control; reduce its Level by 3, and if you do, Special Summon this card.

Nobledragon Magician can be a useful card in a Pendulum Deck that runs Synchro Monsters. Its Pendulum effect requires the presence of a "Magician" card in your other Pendulum Zone, which can be easily fulfilled in a Pendulum Deck that uses multiple Magician cards. Its monster effect can help to Synchro Summon powerful Dragon-Type Synchro Monsters, and it can also be Special Summoned from the hand or Graveyard by reducing the Level of a Level 7 or higher "Odd-Eyes" monster you control.

Tuning Magician

Tuning Magician
Tuning Magician
DARK Spellcaster ★1
ATK 0 / DEF 0
Raiders Requiem [N]
If you have 2 "Magician" cards in your Pendulum Zones, while this card is in your hand or Graveyard: You can Special Summon this card, but banish it when it leaves the field. You can only use this effect of "Tuning Magician" once per turn. If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: Your opponent gains 400 LP, then you take 200 damage.

Tuning Magician can be a good addition to a Pendulum Deck that utilizes Synchro Summoning. Its effect of being able to Special Summon itself from the hand or Graveyard if you have 2 "Magician" cards in your Pendulum Zones can be a valuable tool for setting up Synchro plays. However, its drawback of giving your opponent LP and dealing damage to yourself upon its Normal or Special Summon can be a bit of a hindrance.

Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer

Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer
Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer
LIGHT Dragon ★4
ATK 1950 / DEF 0
Fantastic Arc [UR]
Pendulum Effect
Once, while this card is in your Pendulum Zone: You can target 1 card in a Pendulum Zone; destroy it.

Monster Effect
"Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer" continues his journey to uncover the secrets of Dragon Alchemy, believing it is the key to dispelling his curse and restoring his memory. His power continues to grow... perhaps the same power used by the Dracofiends?

Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer is mainly used as a way to remove problematic Pendulum Scales that your opponent has set up, allowing you to regain control of the game.

Dragonpit & Dragonpulse Magician

Dragonpit Magician and Dragonpulse Magician are both powerful Pendulum Monsters in a Pendulum Deck on Duel Links.

Dragonpit Magician's effect allows you to discard 1 Pendulum Monster to destroy 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field. This can be a useful effect to get rid of your opponent's back row, allowing your other monsters to attack without obstruction. The fact that you need a "Magician" card in your other Pendulum Zone to use this effect can be a slight limitation, but it should not be difficult to fulfill this requirement in a Pendulum Deck.

Dragonpulse Magician's effect allows you to discard 1 Pendulum Monster to destroy 1 face-up monster on the field. This can be a useful effect to get rid of your opponent's key monsters, or to clear the way for your own attacks. Again, you need a "Magician" card in your other Pendulum Zone to use this effect, but this should not be a problem in a Pendulum Deck.

Dragonpit Magician

WATER Spellcaster ★7
ATK 900 / DEF 2700
Magicians Arc [UR]
Pendulum Effect
Once per turn, if you have a "Magician" card in your other Pendulum Zone: You can discard 1 Pendulum Monster, then target 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy it.

Monster Effect
This gifted magician can awaken the energy stored in the deep places of the earth, known as the Pits of the Dragon. His stoic approach wins him few friends, and he often bends to the desires of his pupil.
Dragonpulse Magician

EARTH Spellcaster ★4

Magicians Arc [UR]
Pendulum Effect
Once per turn, if you have a "Magician" card in your other Pendulum Zone: You can discard 1 Pendulum Monster, then target 1 face-up monster on the field; destroy it.

Monster Effect
This boy magician has the gift of seeing the natural lines of energy that run through the earth, which his people call the Pulse of the Dragon. His exuberance and skill put him in high regard with his mentor, the "Dragonpit Magician".

Spiral Flame Strike

Spiral Flame Strike
Spiral Flame Strike
Normal Spell
Fantastic Arc [UR]
Activate 1 of these effects;
● If you control an "Odd-Eyes" card: Target 1 card on the field; destroy it.
● Add to your hand, 1 Level 7 "Odd-Eyes" monster from your Deck, or 1 face-up Level 7 "Odd-Eyes" Pendulum Monster from your Extra Deck.

Spiral Flame Strike is a powerful spell card, its first effect allows you to destroy 1 card on the field, which can help you get rid of your opponent's threats. Its second effect allows you to add a Level 7 "Odd-Eyes" monster from your deck to your hand or a face-up Level 7 "Odd-Eyes" Pendulum Monster from your Extra Deck to your hand, which can help you with setting up your Pendulum Scales or for future plays.

Pendulum Call

Pendulum Call
Pendulum Call
Normal Spell
Fantastic Arc [SR]
Discard 1 card; add 2 "Magician" Pendulum Monsters with different names from your Deck to your hand, also, until the end of your opponent's next turn after this card resolves, "Magician" cards in your Pendulum Zones cannot be destroyed by card effects. You can only activate 1 "Pendulum Call" per turn. You cannot activate this card if you activated a "Magician" monster's Pendulum Effect this turn.

Pendulum Call allows you to search for two "Magician" Pendulum Monsters with different names from your deck and protect your Pendulum Zones from destruction by card effects until the end of your opponent's next turn. The discard cost can also be beneficial, as it can trigger effects from other cards in your deck or hand, or even send a card to the graveyard for future use. However, it is important to note that you cannot activate this card if you have already used a "Magician" monster's Pendulum Effect that turns, so timing and resource management are crucial.

Extra Decks

Trishula, Zero Dragon of the Ice Barrier
Trishula, Zero Dragon of the Ice Barrier
WATER Dragon ★11
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Stars of Synchro [UR]
1 Tuner + 2+ non-Tuner monsters
When this card is Synchro Summoned: You can banish up to 3 cards your opponent controls. If this Synchro Summoned card in its owner's control is destroyed by an opponent's card: You can Special Summon 1 "Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier" from your Extra Deck or GY, its ATK becomes 3300, then halve the ATK of any face-up monsters your opponent currently controls, also negate their effects. You can only use this effect of "Trishula, Zero Dragon of the Ice Barrier" once per turn.

Trishula, Zero Dragon of the Ice Barrier is a powerful card, but it may not be the best choice for every situation.

However, if you are able to successfully summon Trishula, Zero Dragon of the Ice Barrier, its effects can be devastating to your opponent. Being able to banish up to 3 cards your opponent controls upon its Synchro Summon can completely turn the tide of the game, and its second effect can be a powerful follow-up if the card is destroyed by an opponent's card if you have Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier but in this case, we don't.

Overall, Trishula, Zero Dragon of the Ice Barrier is a strong card, but it may not always be the best choice for every deck and situation.

Enlightenment Paladin
Enlightenment Paladin
LIGHT Spellcaster ★8
ATK 2500 / DEF 2000
Raiders Requiem [SR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
If this card is Synchro Summoned using a "Magician" Pendulum Monster as Material: You can target 1 Spell Card in your Graveyard; add it to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Enlightenment Paladin" once per turn. When this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can inflict damage to your opponent equal to half that monster's original ATK.

Enlightenment Paladin's effect to add a Spell Card from your Graveyard to your hand when Synchro Summoned using a "Magician" Pendulum Monster can help you retrieve important Spell Cards for your strategy. Additionally, its ability to inflict damage to your opponent equal to half the original ATK of a destroyed monster can provide additional damage to your attacks.

Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer
Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer
FIRE Dragon ★8
ATK 2850 / DEF 0
Braver Victory [SR]
Selection Box Vol.05 [SR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner Pendulum Monsters

Once per turn: You can target 1 Pendulum Monster on the field or 1 card in the Pendulum Zone; destroy it, and if you do, shuffle 1 card on the field into the Deck. Once per turn: You can Special Summon 1 "Dracoslayer" monster from your Deck in Defense Position, but it cannot be used as a Synchro Material for a Summon.

Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer's ability to destroy cards on the field or in the Pendulum Zone and then shuffle a card from the field back into the Deck is very versatile and can disrupt your opponent's plays. Additionally, its ability to Special Summon a "Dracoslayer" monster from your Deck in Defense Position can help you set up your field for future plays.

Number 106: Giant Hand
Number 106: Giant Hand
EARTH Rock ★4
ATK 2000 / DEF 2000
Arms of Giant [UR]
2 Level 4 monsters

During either player's turn, when a monster effect is activated on your opponent's field (except during the Damage Step): You can detach 2 Xyz Materials from this card, then target 1 Effect Monster your opponent controls; while this card is face-up on the field, that Effect Monster's effects are negated, also it cannot change its battle position.

Number 106: Giant Hand's effect allows you to negate an opponent's monster effect, which can be very helpful in shutting down an opponent's combo or preventing a powerful effect from being activated.

Abyss Dweller
Abyss Dweller
WATER Sea Serpent ★4
ATK 1700 / DEF 1400
Photons of Galaxy [UR]
Selection Box Vol.03 Mini [UR] [UR]
2 Level 4 monsters
While this card has an Xyz Material attached that was originally WATER, all WATER monsters you control gain 500 ATK. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; any card effects that activate in your opponent's Graveyard cannot be activated this turn.

Useful to have in case you go against decks that rely on effects that activate in the graveyard. But this deck doesn't have any WATER monsters, so Dweller will only have 1700 ATK.

Number 70: Malevolent Sin
Number 70: Malevolent Sin
DARK Insect ★4
ATK 2400 / DEF 1200
Photons of Galaxy [SR]
2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 monster your opponent controls; banish it until your opponent's next Standby Phase. At the end of the Damage Step, if this card attacked: You can make this card gain 300 ATK, and if you do, increase its Rank by 3.

Works well against opponents that only have 1 monster on the field. Temporarily banishing them will allow you to attack directly, which can end up securing some games.

Even better if it's an XYZ monster since it will remove all their materials, or if it's a monster that says that it can't be special summoned in the card text.

Steelswarm Roach
Steelswarm Roach
DARK Fiend ★4
ATK 1900 / DEF 0
Photons of Galaxy [SR]
Selection Box Vol.05 [SR]
2 Level 4 monsters
During either player's turn, when a Level 5 or higher monster would be Special Summoned: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the Special Summon, and if you do, destroy it.

Steelswarm Roach can be a good addition as it can provide disruption against high-level Special Summons, which are common in many decks. Its effect to negate and destroy a Level 5 or higher monster being Special Summoned can potentially shut down some key plays of the opponent. However, it is important to note that its effect only works on Level 5 or higher monsters, so it may not be effective against all types of Special Summons.

Link Disciple
Link Disciple
LIGHT Cyberse
ATK 500 / DEF 1
Link Revolution [R]
1 Level 4 or lower Cyberse monster
You can Tribute 1 monster this card points to; draw 1 card, then place 1 card from your hand on the bottom of the Deck. You can only use this effect of "Link Disciple" once per turn.

Link Disciple allows you to draw a card and cycle a card from your hand. It can also as a Filter Draw Strategy to tribute 1 monster this card points to; usually used to get rid of Knightmare Corruptor Iblee that was special summoned to your field by the opponent.

Other Cards Option

Block Direct Attack

The deck might struggle in the earlier turns because the main searcher for the deck is pretty slow. You can stall the duel by using these cards to prevent any damage taken.

Performapal Gongato
Performapal Gongato
EARTH Beast ★1
ATK 100 / DEF 100
Yuya Sakaki at Lvl 11, and 21 [UR]
Pendulum Effect
Once per turn, when an opponent's monster declares a direct attack: You can activate this effect; you take no battle damage from that battle (even if this card leaves the field).

Monster Effect
Once per turn, when an attack is declared involving a monster you control and an opponent's monster: You can activate this effect; you take no battle damage from that battle.

Consider this as an early priority to fetch with Odd-Eyes' effect. The pendulum effect blocks one direct attack every turn, but can also end up making your opponent use their spell/trap card removal early.

Kiteroid
Kiteroid
WIND Machine ★1
ATK 200 / DEF 400
Card Trader [SR]
Activate when you discard this card from your hand during damage calculation after a direct attack. Any Battle Damage you would receive from that direct attack becomes 0. Only once, if you remove this card from the game when it is in your Graveyard, any Battle Damage you would receive from a direct attack becomes 0.

The deck won't be summoning monsters casually before being able to pendulum summon, so Kiteroid works the best compared to the other hand traps. This can help you control the damage that you take, which also helps you get to Destiny Draw easier.

Archfiend Eccentrick

Archfiend Eccentrick
Archfiend Eccentrick
LIGHT Fiend ★3
ATK 800 / DEF 1000
Selection Box Vol.01 Super Mini [UR]
Pendulum Effect
You can target 1 other Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy both it and this card. You can only use this effect of "Archfiend Eccentrick" once per turn.

Monster Effect
You can Tribute this card, then target 1 monster on the field; destroy it. You can only use this effect of "Archfiend Eccentrick" once per turn.

It's fine to use this early on as a pendulum effect to just destroy a spell/trap. Once you can pendulum summon, you can bring this back every turn from the extra deck for quick and easy monster removal.

Rain Bozu

Rain Bozu
Rain Bozu
WATER Fairy ★7
ATK 0 / DEF 0
Zuzu Boyle at Lvl 10, 18, and 23 [SR]
Pendulum Effect
Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster you control; it gains ATK equal to the difference between the number of cards in the Extra Decks x 100, until the end of this turn (even if this card leaves the field).

Monster Effect
Gains ATK during your turn only, and gains DEF during your opponent's turn only, each equal to the difference between the number of cards in the Extra Decks x 200. If this card attacks, it is changed to Defense Position at the end of the Battle Phase. If this card in the Monster Zone is destroyed: You can place this card in your Pendulum Zone.

Mainly used because of its high pendulum scale. The pendulum effect can give a small ATK bonus, but not that important.

The monster effect isn't really good enough to be worth summoning this on its own, but since it's also a level 7, this can be used to make a rank 7 XYZ with another level 7.

Aether, the Empowering Dragon

Aether, the Evil Empowering Dragon
Aether, the Evil Empowering Dragon
DARK Dragon ★6
ATK 2300 / DEF 1600
Selection Box Vol.01 Super Mini [SR]
Pendulum Effect
Once per turn: You can banish 1 "Empowered Warrior" monster from your Graveyard, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it.

Monster Effect
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can target 1 monster on the field; banish it.

The pendulum effect isn't usable in this deck, and being a scale of 4 makes this bad to be used as a pendulum scale. Don't set this as a pendulum monster unless you have the field spell ready to get rid of it, otherwise, you'll be stuck with an unusable pendulum zone.

The monster effect is pretty good, but what makes this a really good card is simply because it's a pendulum monster. If it gets destroyed, it goes back to the extra deck, allowing you to pendulum summon it, again and again, every turn.

If you ever get 2 or more on the board, you can make a rank 6 after their effect has been used. But doing this and activating the rank 6 effect will send the Aether to the grave, not extra deck.

Sky Iris

Sky Iris
Sky Iris
Field Spell
Pendulum Genesis [UR]
Your opponent cannot target "Magician", "Performapal", or "Odd-Eyes" cards in your Pendulum Zones with card effects. You can target 1 other face-up card you control; destroy it, and if you do, add 1 "Odd-Eyes" card from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Sky Iris" once per turn.

Nice deck, but is there any good Pendulum deck that uses the skill Swing Into Action?
<< Anonymous

Usually, that skill isn't necessary at all. Pendulum decks like to run many monsters and thus don't run much backrow anyway. That's why they can live with the 1 spell/trap card zone that is remaining.

Any Pendulum deck can use Swing Into Action now that it's turned into a completely generic Pendulum Zone skill.
