Black Rose Dragon

Black Rose Dragon
Monster TypeDragon
Card typeSynchro / Effect
Card Effect TypeTrigger Effect / Ignition Effect

1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
When this card is Synchro Summoned: You can destroy all cards on the field. Once per turn: You can banish 1 Plant-Type monster from your Graveyard, then target 1 Defense Position monster your opponent controls; change that target to face-up Attack Position, and if you do, its ATK becomes 0 until the end of this turn.

How to Get

PackBlazing Rose [UR]
Ruddy Rose Burning [UR]
Level-up reward--

  • Can destroy all cards on the field.
  • Can turn a defense position monster's attack stats to 0.
  • Forces opponent's monster to attack position.

  • Also destroys all cards on your field including itself.

  • You can use Black Rose Dragon's second effect to check face-down monsters your opponent controls while turing their attack to 0.
  • The first effect of destroying all cards on the field is optional and you can choose not to activate it upon summoning.

Normal Summon Trident Warrior and use his effect to Special Summon a level-3 Tuner, then use both monsters to make Black Rose Dragon. Similarly, you can do this with Morphtronic Scopen and Special Summon a level-4 Morphtronic monster. Blue Rose Dragon can be used to revive Black Rose Dragon.

Effect Destruction

The effect of destroying your own monsters could be used to your advantage. Sacred Phoenix of Nephytys will revive itself after being destroyed and clear the board of all Spell/Trap cards. Yubel monsters will summon their next form upon being destroyed. And finally archetypes like Fire Kings have a number of effects that benefit them when destroyed by card effects.

Extra Summons

After clearing the board with Black Rose Dragon your opponent would be open to direct attacks. To take full advantage of this opportunity you want as many monsters as possible on your field to hit your opponent. Here are some cards that can get you some extra monsters on the field.

Cyberstein OTK

Clearing the field with Black Rose Dragon opens your opponent to a lot of OTKs, one of these is with Cyberstein. Summon Cyberstein after clearing the board and with enough LP you can then summon a powerful fusion monster from your extra deck to end the duel.

If i use blue rose dragon as a material to synchro summon black rose dragon and then i clear the board with its effect, why can't i use blue rose dragon to revive black rose dragon on the same turn?

It does get destroyed by it's own effect, but then, blue rose dragon's effect doesn't proc :/

Mb, forget that response, blue rose dragon is dead cuz it was used to synchro summon black rose dragon.

Ok, managed to figure it out, if i use it BlueRD as synchro material i cannot use it to revive BlackRD.

Toon King
If you add BLACK rose Dragon to Noble Knight's, you can use Noble Arms of Destiny on one of the knights, synchro BRD and blow up the field, but keep your noble Knight.
This card should be limited. Some decks may summon 1 - 2 monsters with 3000+ attack after full board nuke it is insane

You shouldn't summon 2 strong monsters if you cannot protect them
First turn BRD with psi reflector is kinda devastating lol

Where's to got this card?
Welp we already have Neos Fusion, the opponent would likely to nuke his own field and waste their resources

Exactly. This card was good in the TCG back then, but nowadays and with what we have in Duel Links, BRD is terrible.

I had Amazoness Princess and Onslaught on the field (among a couple of other cards). My OP used BRD, and he still lost because I was able to re-summon (with Onslaught after it was destroyed) Princess (and I used her search effect). No response from my opponent and I won.

Just another example of people hyping up a card that does well in real life, only for it to falls flat in DL.

Funny you mention Onslaught, as it happens to be one of the cards with the exact reverse situation - it doesn't make Amazoness meta at all in real life, but the impact in DL is huge.

To the first replier of the OP: Thank you. I was just about to either ask on this or the onslaught page or faqs about destroying my own onslaught with BRD's effect and you saved me the time since your post answers my own question about whether my monster would still come back.
That card looks powerful because it's destroy all cards on field when this card was synchro summoned (except the special summon)but it destroy itself when the effect activated

But there is stil a lot of ways to special summon during MP1. and also there's a lot of cards that floats into other good cards. With those things in mind, you can create a proper setup and assure that you special summon monsters after you nuke the field. BRD is still good.

Fabled cerberral + Tricky and you still have your normal summon.

That’s really good, I might go employ that
It's weird that Yusei had a dialogue with this card as well. I thought Akiza was the only one...

This is exactly why you should never watch the English Dub version of 5Ds, as it is incomplete lol.

Yusei have dialogues on every signer dragon, because he used them all against z-one in the final duel.
Jack and Aki have dialogues with stardust dragon too since they used once.
