Anti-Trap deck (Before Mar 2019)

Duel Links Anti-Trap Deck, How to Use, Anti-Trap Deck Skill.
update 19/03/2019

Overview

If you were to look at the most popular cards in Duel Links, what would you find together with Enemy Controller and the two Fur Hire monsters that are going to be limited at the end of August? Wall of Disruption and Treacherous Trap Hole, which are respectively the first and the third on the list.

Both of these two can create an incredible advantage and most of times they can determine who is the winner of the duel.

You would think that, since Dyna, Hero Fur Hire and Donpa, Marksman Fur Hire are going to be featured in the next Forbidden/Limited List and Enemy Controller already is Semi-Limited, such powerful and popular cards would be next, but KONAMI has been shown to avoid limiting cards that are above a certain rarity if they come from a Mini Box or a Main Box in order to not hurt their sales, so Wall of Disruption and Treacherous Trap Hole still dominate and shape this game.

Paleozoic Canadia and Floodgate Trap Hole are one of the best ways of dealing with Fur Hire and Amazoness Onslaught is the main card of any Amazoness Deck and frankly the only reason why that deck is playable. What do these cards have in common? They are all Trap Cards.

With this long introduction I tried to explain why this deck exists and why it works.

Anti-Trap tries to counter this meta that so heavily relies on Trap Cards by utilizing Monster Cards that are immune to them, Tenkabito Shien and Elemental HERO Wildheart, while also taking advantage of some of the best Trap Cards in the game.

How to Use

Tenkabito Shien & Elemental HERO Wildheart

Your two only monsters, unless we are talking about the Roids version of the deck.

Both Tenkabito and Wildheart are pretty straight forward: they don’t have particularly high stats, but they are unaffected by Trap Cards; they can’t be destroyed by Treacherous Trap Hole, their ATK is not lowered by Mirror Wall or Wall of Disruption and they can’t be banished by Amazoness Onslaught.

Sphere Kuriboh to Avoid OTKs

Going first against Fur Hire can be problematic if the opponent starts with a Hey, Trunade! and bounces back to your hand all of your Spell/Trap Cards.

Sphere Kuriboh’s effect can’t be negated by Wiz, Sage Fur Hire and can prevent Turn 2 OTKs.

Mage Power

Both Tenkabito Shien and Elemental HERO Wildheart only have 1500 ATK, which is quite limiting: Mage Power is here to make up for that.

Mage Power increases the ATK and DEF of the equipped monster by 500 for each Spell/Trap Card you control, making your monsters able to reach 3000 ATK, which is enough to get over a Masked HERO Anki and a Defense Position Wiz, Sage Fur Hire.

Super Rush Headlog

There are two cards that specifically give trouble to this deck: Jinzo and Amazoness Queen.

Jinzo is not extremely common, but there are a few Fur Hire decks that use it as a tech against Amazoness; this monster can essentially lock all of your Trap Cards, leaving you only with the alternative of destroying it by battle with the help of Mage Power. Jinzo has 2400 ATK and 1500 DEF, meaning that, even if you manage to switch him to Defense Position with Sphere Kuriboh, your monsters are still tying with him.

Amazoness Queen prevents destruction by battle for Amazoness monsters, so with Holy Guard they can attack freely into your backrow and suffer from nearly no consequences.

Super Rush can deal with both cards: since Amazoness have Amazoness Onslaught in the Semi-Limited List, they don’t run Enemy Controller, so their main way of avoid having the Queen destroyed by a Super Rush would be a combination of Forbidden Chalice and Paleozoic Canadia; Super Rush is a Quick-Play Spell, so, if you used it in the correct moment, Sphere Kuriboh should be useless.

Paleozoic Canadia

An easy way of dealing with Fur Hire: this Trap Card can flip one of the lower level monsters face-down, preventing it from summoning a Wiz, Sage Fur Hire or a Dyna, Hero Fur Hire and it can force Wiz’s negation effect.

Keep in mind that Canadia can be Special Summoned from the Graveyard and become a 1200 ATK monster unaffected by Monster Card Effects, which is particularly relevant since there are only 6 Monster Cards in this deck.

Needle Ceiling

There are two types of decks that can abuse this card: decks that usually flip their monsters face-down, like Geargia, and decks that feature monsters that are unaffected by Trap Card, like this one. “When there four or more monsters on the field, destroy all face-up monsters on the field”

There are quite a few decks that focus on swarming the field, like Fur Hire, Vampire and Amazoness, and this card is perfect to counter them: Tenkabito and Wildheart are not going to be destroyed by Needle Ceiling’s effect, whereas your opponent can potentially lose all of his monsters.
Due to the limited space in the Monster Card Zone we have, you need to have at least one monster on the field in order to activate this card.

Mirror Wall, Widespread Ruin and Wall of Disruption

These are your standard Battle Traps, they make up for Tenkabito and Wildheart low natural ATK and punish your opponent for trying to attack you.

Mirror Wall used to be a staple in pretty much every deck; it has now fallen down in terms of popularity but there are still a few reasons why you should run it: the 2000 Life Points cost is enough to trigger Fusion Reserves - Roids;

The Trap Card can be chained to Hey, Trunade! and most of the times it allows you to survive for that turn; Mirror Wall can be activated in the Damage Step, so your opponent won’t be able to chain cards like Enemy Controller, Super Rush, Mask Change or Treacherous to it.

Widespread Ruin can only be activated when your opponent declares an Attack, it destroys the monster with the highest ATK on their side of the field, stopping something for which Mirror Wall is not enough.

Wall of Disruption is devastating when it goes off on a full field, it gives all monsters in Attack Position a permanent 2400 ATK debuff, making it quite easy to then attack over them with Tenkabito and Wildheart.

Treacherous Trap Hole

Is it worth running this card in a deck with so many other Trap Cards?

The answer is yes. Treacherous Trap Hole can still be activated, even if you draw it later during the game thanks to Endless Trap Hell: you just shuffle back all of your Trap Cards into the deck and you might even get to activate this twice in the same duel.

Treacherous has additional synergy with Tenkabito and Wildheart, since they are unaffected by the destruction effect and they can still be targeted by it: target Tenkabito and the monster your opponent just summoned for some quick single target removal.

Endless Trap Hell

Endless Trap Hell
Can be used when you have 3 trap cards in the Graveyard. 1 random Trap Card in your Graveyard is added to your hand. Then, shuffle 1 random Trap Card in your Graveyard into your Deck. This skill can only be used once per Duel.

This is what the description of the Skill states, but the effect is actually different and has not been fixed yet. Instead of shuffling only one card, the Skill ends up shuffling back into your deck all of the Trap Cards in the Graveyard after adding one card to your hand.

This Skill can prevent you from decking out while also replenishing your resources; you can essentially use your Trap Cards freely and then get one back.

Fusion Reserves - Roids

Fusion Reserves - Roids
Can be used each time your Life Points decrease by 1800. From your Deck, add 1 Fusion Material whose name is specially listed on a "roid" Fusion Monster card in your Extra Deck. This Skill can only be used once per Duel.

Basically, if your run Super Vehicroid Jumbo Drill in your Extra Deck, you get to add a Drillroid to your hand, which is quite useful since the deck doesn’t run that many Monster Cards.

Matchups

Fur Hire Matchup

Wiz, Sage Fur Hire can negate only a Spell/Trap Card per turn: you can decide to force the activation of the effect with Paleozoic Canadia or just wait for the opponent to attack, bait the negation with a first Trap Card and then chain Wall of Disruption or Treacherous Trap Hole right away.

Hey, Trunade! is a pretty big threat, but Mirror Wall can be chained to it and Sphere Kuriboh can still buy you a turn before you are able to set your Spell/Traps again.

After surviving the OTK, don’t make the mistake of randomly destroying one of your opponent’s monsters if they already have a full field: if they can’t Special Summon another monster, they can’t activate their effects; all they can do from that point is Tribute Summon for a Dyna, Hero Fur Hire or a Wiz.

Amazoness Matchup

Amazoness decks usually focus heavily on Trap Cards, so you could say this is the ideal matchup for this deck, but you still have to be careful about a few things:

Vision HERO Witch Raider is a fairly common card in Amazoness decks, it can destroy all of your Spell/Trap Cards at once and with 2700 ATK and 1900 DEF it’s very difficult to get over both in Attack and Defense Position;

Amazoness Swords Woman can crash into your monsters safely and Amazoness Queen can even prevent destruction by battle, making Wall of Disruption and Mirror Wall useless;

Lava Golem is not a common choice in Amazoness decks, but there is the possibility of running into one. You have a limited amount of Monster Cards and losing two at once can be very problematic.

Masked HERO Matchup

Usually Masked HERO decks are not able to keep up with your Trap Cards without Hey, Trunade! or more than one Cosmic Cyclone.

Masked HERO Ankii has to destroy a monster by battle in order to search for another Mask Change so, unless your opponent has three copies of the Quick-Play Spell already in their hand, they will have to attack into one of your monsters.

Mirror Wall can be activated during the Damage Step, outside of Mask Change’s range, and Treacherous forces your opponent to utilize their resources.

Silent Spellbook Matchup

Silent Magician’s negation is particularly a problem; you can deal with this monster with your Battle Traps or just lock it face-down with your Canadia/Floodgate.

The biggest issue you’re going to have in this matchup is Spellbook of Fate: you don’t have that many monsters, so that easy removal is very problematic. You have enough Trap Cards to protect yourself, so use your Canadia as a monster to force Fate and summon your monsters only when they are safe or you have another one in your hand.

Vampire Matchup

Keep in mind that Samurai Skull and potentially Gozuki can float into another monster after you use Treacherous or Needle Ceiling to get rid of them, so try and use mainly Mirror Wall and Wall of Disruption for protection.

Flipping a Vampire Familiar or a Vampire Retainer face-down is useless, their effects will still trigger, so don’t waste your Canadia and Floodgate on them; use these Trap Cards on Gozuki to prevent him from sending any of the two searchers to the Graveyard, on Vampire Grace to stop Vampire KingdomVampire Scarlet Scourge’s destruction effect or on Vampire Scarlet Scourge.

I already built this deck and it works like a damn charm bro !

I am one of the initiator of this deck, I started to play this deck months ago and my version is upgraded and way better than the versions here.
I made KOG with it, I doubt very much you could do it with such poor versions you suggest here.
First of all, Parasite Infestation skill is the better one by far, it got a perfect synergy with the Needle Ceiling and the Wall Of Disruption and it allow you to deal the 4000 damages Turn 2, something you can't do with other skills.
Floodgate Trap Hole and Paleozoic Canadia are stupid choices while it's unfavorable with the Needle Ceiling.
Winged Rhynos seems to be the best monster to accompanies the 2 others.
While, you don't care of the Traps, focus on the opponent's monsters, Parallel Twister is very interesting for this and it can be combo with an eventual Powerful Rebirth.
Forbidden Chalice is always good to prevent powerful monsters' effects such as Jinzo, Wich Raid, ...

Some interesting cards to make combos with this deck : Two-Pronged Attack, Curse of Anubis, Des Counterblow, Labyrinth of Nightmare and Powerful Rebirth.

My last version :

This deck is as old as Tenkabito: you are NOT the initiator of Anti-Trap at all. I don't like Parallel Twister, but I do agree on the fact that Parasyte Infestation is a pretty good skill when you rely so much on Needle Ceiling.

This is a decent anti-meta deck very effective against amazoness but sucks against fur hire, spell books and sometimes masked heroes. It’s still a fun deck to play especially when your opponent activates trap after trap and realize they won’t work lol.
