Treacherous Trap Hole | Normal Trap |
Visions of Ice [SR] Selection Box Vol. 02 Mini [SR]
If you have no Trap Cards in your Graveyard: Target 2 monsters on the field; destroy those targets. |
Treacherous Trap Hole is arguably the most powerful Trap Card in the game. Despite the fact that it currently faces a lot of competition from other Semi-Limited cards, Treacherous is played in a variety of decks, some of which you wouldn’t even expect it from, and that is thanks to its ability to shut down certain strategies and completely turn duels around.
Paleozoic Canadia | Normal Trap |
Valiant Souls [UR] | |
Target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; change it to face-down Defense Position. Once per Chain, when a Trap Card is activated while this card is in your Graveyard: Special Summon this card as a Normal Monster (Aqua-Type/WATER/Level 2/ATK 1200/DEF 0). (This card is NOT treated as a Trap Card.) If Summoned this way, this card is unaffected by monster effects, also banish it when it leaves the field. |
Paleozoic Canadia still an incredibly versatile Trap Card: it can be used to disrupt your opponent’s plays, to force the activation of an effect, or to allow one of your monsters to get over an opponent’s monster. Finally, Canadia can be Special Summoned from the Graveyard as a Level 2 monster, giving you extra protection, offensive pressure, or just a non-Tuner to use for a Synchro Summon.
Needle Ceiling | Normal Trap |
Valiant Souls [UR] Selection Box Vol.04 [UR]
When there are 4 or more monsters on the field: Destroy all face-up monsters. |
Good against the Deck is quickly swarm multiple monsters on the board like D/D/D.
Void Trap Hole | Normal Trap |
Resonance of Contrast [SR] Selection Box Vol. 01 Mini [SR]
When your opponent Special Summons a monster(s) with 2000 or more ATK: Negate the effects of 1 of those monsters with 2000 or more ATK, and if you do, destroy it. |
Another decent side choice for countering the summon of those core monsters like "Utopia" monsters which being upgraded by the latest Structure Deck: Brave Hope.
Cosmic Cyclone | Quick Spell |
Galactic Origin [UR] Selection Box Vol. 01 Mini [UR]
Pay 1000 LP, then target 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field; banish it. |
Remains popular backrow removal that simply banish it instead of destroy it which can deals with those cards that protect your backrow from card destruction.
Cosmic Cyclone can also be used to synergy with some Skills like Destiny Draw by reducing LP.
Forbidden Chalice | Quick Spell |
Servants of Kings [SR] Selection Box Vol. 01 Mini [SR]
Target 1 face-up monster on the field; until the end of this turn, that target gains 400 ATK, but its effects are negated. |
Forbidden Chalice is a versatile Quick-Play Spell that can be used in a number of situations. You can disrupt your opponent's setup combo by negating their starting monster's effect which is very useful against most of the Meta Decks like D/D/D and Odd-Eyes. You can also simply use Forbidden Chalice to increase the ATK of one of your monsters, allowing it to get over something.
Wall of Disruption | Normal Trap |
Servants of Kings [SR] Selection Box Vol. 02 Mini [SR]
When an opponent's monster declares an attack: All Attack Position monsters your opponent controls lose 800 ATK for each monster they control. |
Wall of Disruption is a pretty strong Trap Card that can punish your opponent for swarming the field, leaving them with a board full of 0 ATK monsters.
Floodgate Trap Hole | Normal Trap |
Generation Next [UR] | |
When your opponent Summons a monster(s): Change that monster(s) to face-down Defense Position. Monsters changed to face-down Defense Position by this effect cannot change their battle positions. |
Floodgate Trap Hole is still a good way of disrupting your opponent’s plays and slowing them down. However, the introduction of new Summoning mechanics, Link Summon is more than likely to make this Trap Card less relevant in the future.
Bacon Saver | DARK Zombie ★2 ATK 700 / DEF 600 |
Generation Next [R] Selection Box Vol. 01 Mini [R] Gagaga XYZ [R]
During either player's Battle Step, while an attack is occurring: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; negate the attack. You can only use the effect of "Bacon Saver" once per Duel. |
Bacon Saver is currently played the most in Elemental HERO. This Level 2 EARTH monster can be sent to the GY from the Deck via Neos Fusion and prevent even an Ancient Gear Reactor Dragon from attacking by banishing itself.
Samurai Skull | DARK Zombie ★4 ATK 1700 / DEF 0 |
Generation Next [R] Selection Box Vol. 01 Mini [R]
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can send 1 Zombie monster from your Deck to the GY. If this face-up card in its owner's control leaves the field because of an opponent's card effect: You can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower Zombie monster from your Deck, except "Samurai Skull". |
Samurai Skull is usually used in Mayakashi and Shiranui Deck. A Budget version of Gozuki but Samurai Skull only lets you mill once upon Normal Summon.
However, one aspect where this card is better than Gozuki is its floating effect. This means your field won't be left defenseless after Samurai Skull is removed via card effect. But the monster you Special Summon would most likely be destroyed by battle. Therefore, the best targets for Samurai Skull's floating are Solitaire or Spectralsword; in other words, something you want in the graveyard.
As the Gozuki, if you are a Zombie Deck fan, you can try to invest this card.
Gozuki | DARK Zombie ★4 ATK 1700 / DEF 800 |
Crimson Kingdom [UR] Selection Box Vol. 01 [UR]
During your Main Phase: You can send 1 Zombie-Type monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can banish 1 Zombie-Type monster from your Graveyard, except "Gozuki"; Special Summon 1 Zombie-Type monster from your hand. You can only use each effect of "Gozuki" once per turn. |
Gozuki still sees play in Vendread and Vampire decks. Samurai Skull represents a cheaper alternative to this card, but, in order to maximize consistency, they are usually played together.
We will see more play of this card if Mezuki is released in the game. So, you can invest this card if you are a fan of Zombie Deck.
Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman | LIGHT Warrior ★8 ATK 2800 / DEF |
Generation Next [UR] | |
1 "Buster Blader" + 1 Dragon-Type monsterMust be Fusion Summoned and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. This card cannot attack directly. This card gains 1000 ATK and DEF for each Dragon-Type monster your opponent controls or is in their Graveyard. Change all Dragon-Type monsters your opponent controls to Defense Position, also Dragon-Type monsters in your opponent's possession cannot activate their effects. If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent. |
Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman is an incredibly powerful card, especially when combined with the Buster Dragon that comes out in the pretty latest box: Fantastic Arc.
Keep in mind that you are going to need both Buster Whelp of the Destruction Swordsman and Destruction Swordsman Fusion in order to play Buster Blader Deck, neither of which you will find in the Crimson Kingdom.
Ultimate Providence | Counter Trap |
Crimson Kingdom [R] Selection Box Vol. 01 [R] Dragunity Overdrive [R] Blue-Eyes Evolution [R]
When a Spell/Trap Card, or monster effect, is activated: Discard the same type of card (Monster, Spell, or Trap); negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that card. |
Similars to Divine Wrath's effect without negate limitation. However, you need to discard the same type of card that you wanna negate. Pretty decent Countering Tech Card in this environment.
Obedience Schooled | Normal Trap |
Land of the Titans [SR] | |
If you control no monsters: Special Summon 3 Level 2 or lower Beast-Type Effect Monsters with different names from your Deck. Their effects are negated, and they are destroyed during the End Phase. If you activate this card, you cannot Special Summon for the rest of this turn, except Beast-Type monsters. |
Only useful in Beast Deck nowadays which can allows you to swarm 3 Level 2 or lower Beast-Type Effect monsters from your Deck to the board for quickly Xyz Summon. Keep in mind that the monsters that special summoned by this card will be destroyed during the End Phase and will limit your Summon except for Beast-Type after you using this card.
Divine Wrath | Counter Trap |
Valkyrie's Rage [UR] | |
When a monster effect is activated: Discard 1 card; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that monster. |
There are many Top Decks start their setup board with Monster Effect, so this card might be a good choice for countering them with Speed 3 Effect (which can only negated by Counter Trap) to disrupt their combo.
Nobleman of Extermination | Normal Spell |
Valkyrie's Rage [UR] | |
Select, destroy, and remove from play 1 face-down Spell or Trap Card. If it was a Trap Card, both players must remove from play all copies of that card from their Decks. |
Nobleman of Extermination is still a decent option when it comes to backrow removal, but it has arguably been outclassed by cards like Mystical Space Typhoon and Cosmic Cyclone.
Xing Zhen Hu | Continuous Trap |
Valkyrie's Rage [UR] | |
Activate by selecting 2 Set Spell or Trap Cards on the field. The selected Spell or Trap Cards cannot be activated. |
Xing Zhen Hu is a Continuous Trap that has actually seen some play relatively recently. Being able to lock your opponent’s backrow during the end of the turn is still pretty good since we only have 3 Spell & Trap Zones available.
Senju of the Thousand Hands | LIGHT Fairy ★4 ATK 1400 / DEF 1000 |
Neo-Impact [UR] | |
When this card is Normal or Flip Summoned: You can add 1 Ritual Monster from your Deck to your hand. |
Senju of the Thousand Hands is the universal searcher for Ritual Monsters and, just like Sonic Bird, it’s still played in a few specific decks.
Mirror Wall | Continuous Trap |
Neo-Impact [UR] | |
Each of your opponent's monsters that conducted an attack while this card was face-up on the field has its ATK halved as long as this card remains on the field. During each of your Standby Phases, pay 2000 LP or destroy this card. |
We have a lot of Trap Cards that are potentially more impactful and devastating than Mirror Wall, but I still felt like it was worth mentioning it because of the fact that it can be activated during the Damage Step and because of its synergy with certain Skills.
Sphere Kuriboh | DARK Fiend ★1 ATK 300 / DEF 200 |
The Ultimate Rising [UR] Selection Box Vol. 01 [UR]
When an opponent's monster declares an attack: You can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard; change the attacking monster to Defense Position. When you Ritual Summon a monster, you can banish this card from your Graveyard as 1 of the monsters required for the Ritual Summon. |
Sphere Kuriboh has managed to stay relevant for a very long time and is still played to this day despite the fact that monsters like Ancient Gear Reactor Dragon are able to bypass it.
