Mayakashis are zombie monsters that are synchro focused. They start with a level 3/5 synchro monster and continuously go up the level by "synchro climbing", only made possible because of Dakki's continuous revival effect.
However, the synchro monsters only have effects when they are revived from the graveyard, which can be done when the higher level synchro on the field is destroyed.

LP Boost α Increases starting Life Points by 1000. | Common |
Nine-Tailed Fox | FIRE Zombie ★6 ATK 2200 / DEF 2000 |
Inglorius Bastion Event [UR]
If this card is in your hand or GY: You can Tribute 2 monsters; Special Summon this card. You can only use this effect of "Nine-Tailed Fox" once per turn. If this card Special Summoned from the GY attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage. If this card is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the GY: You can Special Summon 2 "Fox Tokens" (Zombie/FIRE/Level 2/ATK 500/DEF 500). |
Can be Tribute Summoned using a revived Dakki as tribute fodder if you have not yet used your Normal Summon during the turn. Can be a useful beater on the field, and has some self recursion by tributing its Tokens to revive itself.
However if you don't intend to use Nine-Tailed Fox as a beater, you can use it as synchro material alongside Spectralsword or Dakki to make Shiranui Shogunsaga.
The summon of the tokens can be useful as a defensive effect to protect your LP, but it won't be activateable if you go against Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon because of its effect.
Dakki, the Graceful Mayakashi | FIRE Zombie ★2 ATK 1000 / DEF 0 |
Flames of the Heart [SR]
You can only control 1 "Dakki, the Graceful Mayakashi". When a "Mayakashi" monster(s) is Special Summoned to your field from the Extra Deck, while this card is in the GY (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card. You cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck the turn you activate this effect, except "Mayakashi" monsters. |
There is no restriction on the number of times you can use Dakki's self revival. This lets Mayakashi decks easily synchro climb up to Yoko. After summoning Yoko, you can still revive Dakki to be used as cost for cards like Enemy Controller, Ballista Squad, or Mayakashi Winter. This synchro climb will also load your graveyard with Mayakashi synchros to float into.
Dakki, being a level-2 Zombie Tuner, can also be used when making Shiranui Synchro monsters, specifically when synchro climbing from Shogunsaga to Sunsaga. However, you can't summon any Shiranui monsters if you have activated Dakki's revival effect in your turn, and summoning Shiranui monsters won't revive Dakki from the grave.
Yuki-Musume, the Ice Mayakashi | WATER Zombie ★1 ATK 0 / DEF 1900 |
Flames of the Heart [R] | |
If you control a "Mayakashi" card, other than "Yuki-Musume, the Ice Mayakashi" while this card is in your hand or GY: You can Special Summon this card, then send 1 Zombie monster from your Deck to the GY. You can only use this effect of "Yuki-Musume, the Ice Mayakashi" once per turn. You cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck, except "Mayakashi" monsters. |
Yuki-Musume combos with Dakki to start your synchro climb. Normal Summon Dakki then Special Summon Yuki-Musume to make Oboro-Guruma. From there Dakki can keep reviving herself to make the next Synchro monster. The graveyard pitching is good for setting up the effects of Nine-Tailed Fox or Shiranui monsters.
If you get turn 2 and going against opponents with multiple set back row cards, you can activate Yuki-Musume and send a Nine-Tailed Fox to have a follow-up in case your monsters gets stopped by something like Floodgate Trap Hole. Otherwise, a safe card to put into the graveyard is spectralsword.
Yuki-Musume can revive itself for free when you control any Mayakashi card, including Mayakashi Winter, making her a good tribute fodder for effect cost and summoning Nine-Tailed Fox.
Shiranui Solitaire | FIRE Zombie ★4 ATK 500 / DEF 0 |
Soul of Resurrection [SR]
You can Tribute 1 Zombie-Type monster; Special Summon 1 Zombie-Type Tuner with 0 DEF from your Deck. If this card is banished: You can target 1 of your banished "Shiranui" monsters, except "Shiranui Solitaire", or up to 2 instead if "Shiranui Style Synthesis" is on the field; Special Summon them. You can only use each effect of "Shiranui Solitaire" once per turn. |
Most of the time you will only be summoning Solitaire to summon Dakki from your deck. If you don't have Dakki on hand, you can summon Solitaire to tribute himself and Special Summon Dakki from your deck, then Special Summon Yuki-Musume from your hand and start your Mayakashi synchro climb.
You can banish this card from your grave through Mayakashi Winter, or when your Mayakashi synchros in the grave can be summoned. This lets you special summon a banished Shiranui monster for more repeated use.
Shiranui Samurai | FIRE Zombie ★4 ATK 1800 / DEF 0 |
Soul of Resurrection [R]
During either player's turn: You can banish 1 Zombie-Type monster from your Graveyard; this card gains 600 ATK, and if it does, banish any monster that battled this card, after damage calculation. These effects last until the end of this turn. If this card is banished: You can target 1 "Shiranui" monster in your Graveyard, except "Shiranui Samurai"; add it to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Shiranui Samurai" once per turn. |
Its main effect is useful to get rid of hard to get over boss monsters. You can summon this as a surprise during your opponent's turn by using Ghost Meets Girl - A Shiranuis Story.
The other use of this is to mainly recover certain cards from the grave. You can put cards from deck to grave in several ways, and many ways to banish them, so Samurai's effect will be useful to recycle resources.
Shiranui Spiritmaster | FIRE Zombie ★4 ATK 1500 / DEF 0 |
Soul of Resurrection [R]
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 "Shiranui" monster from your hand or Graveyard, except "Shiranui Spiritmaster", but banish it when it leaves the field. If this card is banished: You can target 1 face-up card your opponent controls; destroy it. You can only use this effect of "Shiranui Spiritmaster" once per turn. |
Spiritmaster and Sunsaga are both semi-limited, so you'll have to choose between the two. Spiritmaster can help with consistency, as well as have a pretty good banish effect that works well together with Shiranui Samurai or the other Mayakashi cards.
Shiranui Sunsaga has an incredibly useful non targeting destruction effect, but you might find yourself unable to summon it as often as you'd like. Sometimes duels can be decided pretty early before you even get to summon it.
Shiranui Spectralsword Shade | FIRE Zombie ★3 ATK 800 / DEF 0 |
Soul of Resurrection [R]
You can Tribute this card, then target 2 of your banished Zombie monsters, except "Shiranui Spectralsword Shade", including a "Shiranui" monster; Special Summon them in Defense Position, but negate their effects, also, you cannot Special Summon monsters for the rest of this turn, except Zombie monsters. You can only use this effect of "Shiranui Spectralsword Shade" once per turn. |
If your monsters get banished, this will be one of 2 ways to actually recover them, the other one being Shiranui Sunsaga, but Sunsaga is only for synchro monsters, and they go back into your extra deck.
Spectralsword Shade special summons them to your field. Their effects are negated, but they can be used to perform another synchro or tributed for Nine-Tailed Fox. Doing this lets you put them back into the grave so you can re-use Spectralsword or Solitaire again.
Keep in mind that Spectralsword Shade MUST summon 2, not up to 2 monsters, and one of the banished monsters must be a Shiranui monster. You also can't synchro into a Shiranui monster if you have Yuki-Musume on your field, or activated a Dakki revival effect beforehand.
Shiranui Spectralsword | FIRE Zombie ★2 ATK 800 / DEF 0 |
Soul of Resurrection [R]
If this card is in your Graveyard, except the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 non-Tuner Zombie-Type monster in your Graveyard; banish both it and this card, and if you do, Special Summon 1 Zombie-Type Synchro Monster from your Extra Deck whose Level equals the total Levels those 2 monsters had. You can only use this effect of "Shiranui Spectralsword" once per turn. |
Shiranui Spectralsword is one of the best targets to pitch with Yuki-Musume. However, his graveyard effect will only be most useful when you have Nine-Tailed Fox or Shogunsaga alongside him in the graveyard.
As a back-up plan you can banish Spectralsword and a Mayakashi Synchro in your graveyard to continue the synchro climb in case it is disrupted by your opponent's Raigeki Break.
Synchro climbing with Spectralsword would go something like this; Synchro Summon Shogunsaga with Spectralsword and Nine-Tailed Fox in the graveyard. Banish Solitaire with Shogunsaga's effect and revive Spectralsword. Use Spectralsword and Shogunsaga to make Sunsaga.
Shiranui Sunsaga | FIRE Zombie ★10 ATK 3500 / DEF 0 |
Soul of Resurrection [R]
1 Zombie Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner Zombie monsters If this card is Special Summoned: You can return any number of your Zombie Synchro Monsters, that are banished or are in your GY, to the Extra Deck, then you can destroy cards your opponent controls, equal to the number of cards returned. If a Zombie monster(s) you control would be destroyed by battle or card effect, you can banish 1 "Shiranui" monster from your GY instead. You can only Special Summon "Shiranui Sunsaga(s)" once per turn. |
With all the Mayakashi Synchros you put in the graveyard during your synchro climb, Sunsaga should be able to remove most of your opponent's cards on the field and result in an OTK. Returning them to the deck also allows you to redo your synchro climb.
However, because this is not a Shiranui deck, the mass protection effect to your Zombies will not be that effective.
Shiranui Shogunsaga | FIRE Zombie ★8 ATK 3000 / DEF 0 |
Soul of Resurrection [R]
1 Zombie-Type Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner Zombie-Type monsters If this card is Special Summoned: You can banish 1 Zombie-Type monster from your Graveyard; this card gains ATK equal to the banished monster's original ATK, until the end of this turn. If this card on the field is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 of your banished Zombie-Type monsters with 0 DEF; return it to the Graveyard. You can only Special Summon "Shiranui Shogunsaga(s)" once per turn. |
Can be easily special summoned using Spectralsword and Nine-Tailed Fox in the grave, which are also easily sent from the deck to grave using Yuki-Musume's effect.
If you also have Solitaire in the grave, you can synchro into Shogunsaga and banish Solitaire to special summon Spectralsword so you can go into Sunsaga right away. This can be a decent play to start with since it destroys your opponent's cards before you even do a normal summon.
Alternatively, you can use Shogunsaga's effect to increase its attack by banishing Yoko to become 5900 ATK for an OTK potential.
Shiranui Squiresaga | FIRE Zombie ★7 ATK 2100 / DEF 0 |
Soul of Resurrection [UR]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters You can only Special Summon "Shiranui Squiresaga(s)" once per turn. Once per turn: You can banish 1 face-up monster you control or in your GY, then apply these effects, in sequence, depending on what the monster was before it was banished, if it was any of these. ● Zombie: You can have all monsters you control gain 300 ATK. ● FIRE: You can destroy 1 Spell/Trap on the field. ● Synchro: You can destroy 1 monster on the field. |
Either summon this by using Spectralsword and Tsuchigumo from the grave, use the level 2 tuners when Tsuchigumo is on the field because your opponent destroys your Mayakashi monsters.
A decent monster to summon if you have Spectralsword in grave but no Nine-Tailed Fox, since Squiresaga's card destruction effect is non-targeting, sometimes forcing your opponent to use their effects early.
With so many ways to fuel your grave, you'll have plenty of cards that you can banish to activate Squiresaga's effect. You'll just have to keep in mind what you banish if you need to destroy a monster or a spell/trap. Banishing a Shiranui synchro like herself is an easy way to get all the effects.
Shiranui Samuraisaga | FIRE Zombie ★6 ATK 2500 / DEF 0 |
Soul of Resurrection [N]
1 Zombie-Type Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner Zombie-Type monsters Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can target 1 of your banished Zombie-Type monsters; shuffle it into the Deck, and if you do, change to Defense Position all monsters your opponent controls with ATK less than or equal to that monster's. If this card is banished: You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; it loses 500 ATK. You can only Special Summon "Shiranui Samuraisaga(s)" once per turn. |
Having access to this can be good to help with going up the synchro ladder in case you can't make a Mayakashi play. Its main effect can also be used to recover cards from your banished pile in certain situations.
For the most part, it's going to be used with Spectralsword to become Shogunsaga from the grave for a good OTK potential.
Gozuki | DARK Zombie ★4 ATK 1700 / DEF 800 |
Crimson Kingdom [UR] Selection Box Vol. 01 [UR]
During your Main Phase: You can send 1 Zombie-Type monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can banish 1 Zombie-Type monster from your Graveyard, except "Gozuki"; Special Summon 1 Zombie-Type monster from your hand. You can only use each effect of "Gozuki" once per turn. |
Mainly to be used as more ways to send cards from deck to grave. Not going to be an easy card to synchro with if you don't bring Samuraisaga, but you can go into Squiresaga (the level 7) if you use Spectralsword Shade.
Use Gozuki to send either Spectralsword or Nine-Tailed Fox from deck to grave. If you have Mayakashi Winter, you can send Yuki-Musume from deck to grave to special summon to send another card. This won't really lead to much right away, but your field will be protected with 2 monsters and sets up your spectralsword in the grave.
Samurai Skull | DARK Zombie ★4 ATK 1700 / DEF 0 |
Generation Next [R] Selection Box Vol. 01 Mini [R]
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can send 1 Zombie monster from your Deck to the GY. If this face-up card in its owner's control leaves the field because of an opponent's card effect: You can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower Zombie monster from your Deck, except "Samurai Skull". |
Similar to Gozuki, except this activates its effect on summon. Arguably better to use at times since your opponent can disrupt your Gozuki more easily before it gets to use its effect compared to this.
Ghost Meets Girl - A Shiranuis Story | Quick Spell |
Flames of the Heart [SR]
If your opponent controls a monster: Discard 1 Zombie monster; Special Summon 1 "Shiranui" monster with a different name from your Deck or GY, also you cannot Special Summon monsters, except Zombie monsters, for the rest of this turn after this card resolves. You can only activate 1 "Ghost Meets Girl - A Shiranui's Story" per turn. |
A good searcher for the deck. Use this to special summon Solitaire and use its effect to get Dakki from the deck, then special summon Yuki-Musume from hand or grave to do the synchro climb.
A lot of the cards are fine to be discarded since they have usable effects, so there are plenty of options: Yuki-Musume, Spectralsword, Mayakashi Winter, Gozuki, and Nine-Tailed Fox are the main cards you can send.
A decent card to set to be used during your opponent's turn as well. Ideally have a spectralsword in hand so you can discard it during your opponent's turn, and special summon any Solitaire during your opponent's battle phase, or Shiranui Samurai if you're desperate.
Mayakashi Return | Normal Spell |
Flames of the Heart [SR]
Take 1 "Mayakashi" card from your Deck, except "Mayakashi Return", and either add it to your hand or send it to the GY. You can only activate 1 "Mayakashi Return" per turn. |
Mayakashi Winter | Continuous Spell |
Flames of the Heart [SR]
Monsters your opponent controls lose 100 ATK/DEF for each "Mayakashi" monster with a different name in your GY. You can only use 1 of the following effects of "Mayakashi Winter" per turn, and only once that turn. ● Send this card and 1 "Mayakashi" monster you control to the GY; draw 1 card. ● Banish this card and 1 Zombie monster from your GY, then target 1 "Mayakashi" monster in your GY; Special Summon it. |
Your starting combo should be Dakki and Yuki-Musume, so Mayakashi Return should search whichever you don't have yet. If you already have Dakki or Solitaire, search Yuki-Musume. After doing your synchro climb, you can search Mayakashi Winter.
Keep Mayakashi Winter on your field for the significant debuff. If you want use the draw effect, use the Dakki you revived after summoning Yoko as cost. The revival effect should ideally be used on Yoko or Tengu, but you can revive the lower-leveled Mayakashi to swarm the field.
Yoko, the Graceful Mayakashi | FIRE Zombie ★9 ATK 2900 / DEF 2400 |
Flames of the Heart [UR]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters You can only control 1 "Yoko, the Graceful Mayakashi". You can only use each of these effects of "Yoko, the Graceful Mayakashi" once per turn. ● If a Synchro Monster in your possession whose original Level is 11 is destroyed by battle or an opponent's card effect while this card is in the GY: You can banish 1 other Zombie monster from your GY, and if you do, Special Summon this card. ● If this card is Special Summoned from the GY: You can destroy 1 monster your opponent controls. |
Tengu, the Winged Mayakashi | WIND Zombie ★7 ATK 2600 / DEF 1500 |
Flames of the Heart [R] | |
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters You can only control 1 "Tengu, the Winged Mayakashi". You can only use each of these effects of "Tengu, the Winged Mayakashi" once per turn. ● If a Synchro Monster in your possession whose original Level is 9 is destroyed by battle or an opponent's card effect while this card is in the GY: You can banish 1 other Zombie monster from your GY, and if you do, Special Summon this card. ● If this card is Special Summoned from the GY: You can destroy 1 Spell/Trap your opponent controls. |
Tsuchigumo, the Poisonous Mayakashi | EARTH Zombie ★5 ATK 2000 / DEF 1800 |
Flames of the Heart [R] | |
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters / You can only control 1 "Tsuchigumo, the Poisonous Mayakashi". You can only use each of these effects of "Tsuchigumo, the Poisonous Mayakashi" once per turn. ● If a Synchro Monster in your possession whose original Level is 7 is destroyed by battle or an opponent's card effect while this card is in the GY: You can banish 1 other Zombie monster from your GY, and if you do, Special Summon this card. ● If this card is Special Summoned from the GY: You can have each player send the top 3 cards from their Deck to the GY. |
Oboro-Guruma, the Wheeled Mayakashi | EARTH Zombie ★3 ATK 800 / DEF 2100 |
Flames of the Heart [N] | |
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters You can only control 1 "Oboro-Guruma, the Wheeled Mayakashi". You can only use each of these effects of "Oboro-Guruma, the Wheeled Mayakashi" once per turn. ● If a Synchro Monster in your possession whose original Level is 5 is destroyed by battle or an opponent's card effect while this card is in the GY: You can banish 1 other Zombie monster from your GY, and if you do, Special Summon this card. ● If this card is Special Summoned from the GY: You can activate this effect; this turn, your monsters cannot be destroyed by battle. |
The Mayakashi Synchro monsters are used like a "ladder". Climb up the ladder by continuously reviving Dakki and then Synchro Summoning, and climb down the ladder by floating when a Mayakashi Synchro is destroyed. However because of limited Extra Deck space, we can't add extra copies of Mayakashi Synchros, so climbing up the ladder again after going down is impossible without Sunsaga. Additionally, Mayakashi Synchros only trigger their effects when they are revived.
Yoko is the highest level Mayakashi monster so you will need to revive it with support cards to activate its effect. Tengu can be revived with Yoko and provides simple backrow removal. Having these Mayakashi out means your situation is still good.
Falling down the ladder to Tsuchigumo puts you in a pretty bad spot but luckily he has a mill effect that helps setup your graveyard for comeback plays. Hopefully you have Spectralsword and Nine-Tailed Fox in your graveyard at this point or revival options for your Mayakashi.
Oboro-Guruma acts as a wall to prevent your opponent from OTK-ing you but ideally you do not fall to this point.
When banishing Zombies for Mayakashi Synchros' revival here are some options: Yuki-Musume because of lack of graveyard interactions. Solitaire to revive a banished Spectralsword. Oboro-Guruma because you will rarely need his "safety net".
Chaos Hunter | DARK Fiend ★7 ATK 2500 / DEF 1600 |
Card Trader [UR] | |
When your opponent Special Summons a monster (except during the Damage Step): You can discard 1 card; Special Summon this card from your hand. Your opponent cannot banish cards. |
Many cards are still useful in the grave, so the discard effect is less of an issue. Its main effect is useful to disrupt a lot of different decks, so it's definitely good enough to consider.
Even if it's not good against your current opponent, you can still synchro into a Yoko for a higher ATK beater. You can't go into Sunsaga since Chaos Hunter is not a zombie though.
D.D. Crow | DARK Winged Beast ★1 ATK 100 / DEF 100 |
Shining Hope [UR] | |
During either player's turn: You can discard this card to the Graveyard to target 1 card in your opponent's Graveyard; banish that target. |
Useful to disrupt your opponent's plays, or to banish your own cards. You can banish Solitaire to special summon a banished Shiranui, or banish Spiritmaster for a quick destruction effect.
Bacon Saver | DARK Zombie ★2 ATK 700 / DEF 600 |
Generation Next [R] | |
During either player's Battle Step, while an attack is occurring: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; negate the attack. You can only use the effect of "Bacon Saver" once per Duel. |
If you want a safe-play to prevent OTK, you can use Bacon Saver. This can be sent from the deck to grave easily with Gozuki, Samurai Skull, or Yuki-Musume.
Sealing Ceremony of Katon | Continuous Trap |
Dawn of Destiny [R] | |
Once per turn: You can banish 1 FIRE monster from your Graveyard to target 1 card in your opponent's Graveyard; banish that target. |
Works with the Shiranui monsters or Dakki since most of the Mayakashis aren't FIRE. Disrupting your opponents and getting your Shiranui effects going can be a decent combo, but it's a continuous trap so it can be stopped by any back row removal card.
Super Team Buddy Force Unite! | Normal Trap |
Spirit of the Beast [SR]
Target 1 face-up monster on the field; Special Summon 1 monster from your hand or GY, with the same original Type as that monster's, but with a different original name. If this card in its owner's Spell & Trap Zone is destroyed by an opponent's card effect: You can Set 1 "Super Team Buddy Force Unite!" directly from your Deck to your Spell & Trap Zone. |
Just like Mayakashi Winter, use it to revive Yoko or Tengu but for a much cheaper cost. Super Team Buddy Force also has the benefit of being able to revive your Shiranui monsters.
When Yoko is destroyed by your opponent, you can revive Tengu with its own effect. Then target Tengu with Super Team Buddy Force to revive Yoko. But in situations where your opponent does not use destruction to get rid of Yoko, you cannot revive Tengu. In that case you can use Dakki as a target for Super Team Buddy Force. You will have a Dakki and Yoko on your field after you synchro climb. Your opponent will usually get rid of the Yoko first, and in that case immediately use Super Team Buddy Force.
Vermillion Dragon Mech | FIRE Machine ★9 ATK 2700 / DEF 1800 |
Blazing Rose [UR] | |
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters Once per turn: You can banish 1 Tuner from your hand, field, or Graveyard, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it. If this Synchro Summoned card is destroyed by card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 of your banished Tuners; add it to your hand. |
Useful generic level 9 synchro, but some Mayakashi and Shiranui cards have restrictions that prohibits you from summoning other archetypes/type-specific monsters from being summoned. So you might not be able to summon it that much.
