Evil Eye: deck recipe [Sept 15]

Duel Links Evil Eye deck, Evil Eye in the current meta, how to use.
update 15/09/2022

Overview

Evil Eye monsters have low ATK, but with the power of the equip cards, they will be untargetable and can't be destroyed, as well as getting stronger and stronger to become unstoppable. Combined with Medusa's effect, this will also allow you to banish your opponent's card in their graveyard every single turn.

How to Play

Medusa, Watcher of the Evil Eye

Medusa, Watcher of the Evil Eye
Medusa, Watcher of the Evil Eye
DARK Fiend ★4
ATK 1400 / DEF 1600
Witchs Sorcery [SR]
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can target 1 "Evil Eye" card in your GY, except "Medusa, Watcher of the Evil Eye"; add it to your hand. If this card is equipped with "Evil Eye of Selene" (Quick Effect): You can target 1 monster in your opponent's GY; banish it. You can only use this effect of "Medusa, Watcher of the Evil Eye" once per turn. Once per turn, during the next Standby Phase after this effect was activated: Banish 1 card in your GY.

Summon Medusa and equip her with Evil Eye of Selene. You won't be using Medusa's recovery effect on your first turn, but later in the duel Normal Summoning Medusa can give you a Selene to equip. Or you can recover Basilius or the Field Spell for their mill and search respectively.

Medusa and Selene have great synergy. A Medusa equipped with Selene gains the ability to disrupt your opponent's graveyard, good for getting rid of graveyard effects like Kiteroid and Shiranui Spectralsword. This effect activation also triggers Selene to increase Medusa's ATK. Selene also gives Medusa protection from targeting and destruction, comparable to Invoked Cocytus' inherent protection.

When banishing from your own graveyard, consider banishing Trap cards first if you have Treacherous Trap Hole.

Basilius, Familiar of the Evil Eye

Basilius, Familiar of the Evil Eye
Basilius, Familiar of the Evil Eye
DARK Fiend ★3
ATK 400 / DEF 2000
Witchs Sorcery [R]
If you control an "Evil Eye" monster, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). You can only Special Summon "Basilius, Familiar of the Evil Eye" once per turn this way. During your Main Phase: You can send 1 "Evil Eye" Spell/Trap from your Deck to the GY. You can only use this effect of "Basilius, Familiar of the Evil Eye" once per turn.

You special summon this after normal summoning Medusa. Use its effect to send Gorgoneio so you can search for Selene or Evil Eye Defeat. Otherwise, you can send Catoblepas if you need to make an XYZ play.

Catoblepas, Familiar of the Evil Eye

Catoblepas, Familiar of the Evil Eye
Catoblepas, Familiar of the Evil Eye
DARK Fiend ★3
ATK 600 / DEF 1900
Witchs Sorcery [N]
You can target 1 "Evil Eye" Spell/Trap you control; once, until the end of the next turn, that card cannot be destroyed by your opponent's card effects. If you control an "Evil Eye" monster other than "Catoblepas, Familiar of the Evil Eye", while this card is in your GY: You can Special Summon this card, but banish it when it leaves the field. You can only use each effect of "Catoblepas, Familiar of the Evil Eye" once per turn.

Since it has very low ATK, it's recommended to only summon this using its own effect when it's in the graveyard, then use the main effect to protect one of your equip cards.

This card is mainly used here for a quick and easy rank 3 XYZ together with Basilius. Having access to some rank 3 XYZ can help deal with certain situations, or to rank up into higher levels to get Corebage / Gaia Dragon.

Evil Eye of Selene

The primary purpose of these equips is to boost ATK. Selene combos with Medusa to steadily gain ATK. Gorgoneio can make Medusa a stronger beater late game when you have lost a ton of LP from Selene.

Consider equipping both Selene and Gorgoneio to a single Medusa to create a huge beater, but two copies of Selene is better equipped to two different Medusa to have more protected monsters.

Evil Eye of Selene
Evil Eye of Selene
Equip Spell
Witchs Sorcery [UR]
Equip only to an "Evil Eye" monster. It cannot be destroyed by battle or your opponent's card effects, also your opponent cannot target it with card effects. Each time you activate the equipped monster's effect, or you activate another "Evil Eye" Spell/Trap Card: The equipped monster gains 500 ATK, and if it does, you lose 500 LP. (This ATK gain remains even if this card leaves the field.) If this card is in your GY: You can pay 1000 LP, then banish 1 "Evil Eye" Spell/Trap from your GY, except "Evil Eye of Selene"; Set this card. You can only use this effect of "Evil Eye of Selene" once per turn.

As stated in a previous section, Selene's ATK boost synergizes very well with Medusa. As long as Selene is equipped to Medusa, you will steadily gain ATK. The protection effect it gives Medusa is good against common disruption like Raigeki Break, Fiendish Chain, and Paleozoic Canadia.

Lastly, Selene's self recovery effect can be useful but you should be careful of the LP cost. You can use this to get Selene on your field just before you activate Evil Eye Defeat, or you can banish an Evil Eye Defeat in your graveyard to prepare your Treacherous Trap Hole. LP loss also helps Gorgoneio's ATK boost.

Evil Eye of Gorgoneio
Evil Eye of Gorgoneio
Equip Spell
Witchs Sorcery [R]
Equip only to an "Evil Eye" monster. You can only activate 1 "Evil Eye of Gorgoneio" per turn. This card's name becomes "Evil Eye of Selene" while in the Spell & Trap Zone. While your LP are lower than your opponent's, the equipped monster gains ATK equal to the difference. You can banish this card from your GY and discard 1 "Evil Eye" card; add 1 "Evil Eye" Spell/Trap from your Deck to your hand, except "Evil Eye of Gorgoneio". You can only use this effect of "Evil Eye of Gorgoneio" once per turn.

Gorgoneio only becomes a good equip card when you've already lost a lot of LP. Before that, it is best to mill him with Basilius for his search effect. Prioritize searching Selene if you don't have it yet, otherwise search Evil Eye Defeat for a good removal effect.

Gorgoneio's ability to act as Selene on the field lets you use the full potential of Evil Eye Defeat and Medusa.

Evil Eye Domain - Pareidolia

Evil Eye Domain - Pareidolia
Evil Eye Domain - Pareidolia
Field Spell
Witchs Sorcery [SR]
When this card is activated: You can add 1 "Evil Eye" monster from your Deck to your hand. Once per turn, during damage calculation, if your "Evil Eye" monster is attacked, while "Evil Eye of Selene" is in your Spell & Trap Zone: You can make the battle damage you take from this battle also inflicted to your opponent. If this card in the Field Zone is destroyed by card effect: You can target 1 "Evil Eye" monster in your GY; add it to your hand. You can only activate 1 "Evil Eye Domain - Pareidolia" per turn.

Pareidola is mostly used for its search and floating effects. Upon activating Pareidolia, search Medusa or Basilius depending on which one you don't have in your opening hand. If you have both, search an extra Medusa for later recycling.

Later, you want to destroy Pareidolia to recover an Evil Eye monster. You can do this with Double Cyclone to also get rid of an enemy backrow, or you can activate a new Pareidola if it's already a different turn.

The effect of counter damage can be taken advantage of if you have higher LP than your opponent but your opponent has higher ATK monster. Attack into your opponent's monster to take damage and potentially secure some games.

Evil Eye Awakening

Evil Eye Awakening
Evil Eye Awakening
Normal Spell
Witchs Sorcery [N]
Special Summon 1 "Evil Eye" monster from your hand or Graveyard, or, if "Evil Eye of Selene" is in your Spell & Trap Zone, you can Special Summon 1 "Evil Eye" monster from your Deck instead. You can only activate 1 "Evil Eye Awakening" per turn.

You can summon any monster and use any of the Evil Eye equip to search for any missing monster. If you already have Medusa with a Selene, you can either summon Basilius to send Gorgoneia for a search effect, or just search another Medusa in case the one on your field is gone.

The equip cards can only be equipped to "Evil Eye" monsters, so you can't equip to your monsters for an easy search.

Storm

Storm
Storm
Normal Spell
Odion [R]
Ranked Rewards [R]
Destroy as many Spell/Trap Cards you control as possible, then destroy as many Spell/Trap Cards your opponent controls as possible, up to the number of cards destroyed by this effect.

Storm is an easy way of getting Evil Eye Spells in the graveyard. You want to do this with Gorgoneio and Pareidolia, because their effects can fetch cards from the deck and graveyard respectively. Other than that, Storm gets rid of enemy backrow, protecting the few monsters you have from enemy backrow.

Evil Eye Defeat

Evil Eye Defeat
Evil Eye Defeat
Normal Trap
Witchs Sorcery [R]
If you control an "Evil Eye" monster: Target 1 monster on the field, or up to 2 instead if "Evil Eye of Selene" is in your Spell & Trap Zone; return them to the hand. You can only activate 1 "Evil Eye Defeat" per turn.

Evil Eye Defeat is a card to get rid of your opponent's field presence. With Selene on the field, you essentially get to remove 2 of your opponent's monsters for free. Like any other "return to hand" effect, it is best to target Extra Deck monsters and other monsters that cost your opponent a lot of resources to summon.

Search Evil Eye Defeat by banishing Gorgoneio, or recover it from the graveyard when you summon Medusa.

Extra Decks

Number C39: Utopia Ray
Number C39: Utopia Ray
LIGHT Warrior ★4
ATK 2500 / DEF 2000
Infinite Ray [UR]
3 Level 4 LIGHT monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a "Number 39: Utopia" you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; it gains 500 ATK and 1 monster your opponent controls loses 1000 ATK, until the End Phase. You must have 1000 Life Points or less to activate and to resolve this effect.

Utopia Ray is a beater that can attack over practically anything with its buff and enemy debuff effect. The 1000 LP threshold is also not that difficult to reach since you'll be paying a ton of LP when using Evil Eye effects.

Number 39: Utopia
Number 39: Utopia
LIGHT Warrior ★4
ATK 2500 / DEF 2000
Shining Hope [UR]
2 Level 4 monsters
When any player's monster declares an attack: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the attack. When this card is targeted for an attack, while it has no Xyz Materials: Destroy this card.

Summon Utopia only to upgrade to Utopia Ray. Medusa Equipped with Selene already has an arguably better protection effect. And the ATK boost from Evil Eye Equips easily puts Medusa's ATK over Utopia.

The Phantom Knights of Break Sword
The Phantom Knights of Break Sword
DARK Warrior ★3
ATK 2000 / DEF 1000
Phantom of Rebellion [SR]
2 Level 3 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 card you control and 1 card your opponent controls; destroy them. If this Xyz Summoned card is destroyed: You can target 2 "The Phantom Knights" monsters with the same Level in your Graveyard; Special Summon them and increase their Levels by 1, also you cannot Special Summon monsters for the rest of this turn, except DARK monsters.

It has a card removal effect that almost works like Diamond Dire Wolf and a rank-up effect that works differently than just adding a higher rank on top of it.

It's recommended to go after backrows first since it will be a huge problem if the monsters you special summoned get stopped by something like Floodgate Trap Hole or even Book of Moon.

Ghostrick Alucard
Ghostrick Alucard
DARK Zombie ★3
ATK 1800 / DEF 1600
Photons of Galaxy [SR]
2 Level 3 monsters
Monsters your opponent controls cannot target face-up "Ghostrick" monsters, or any face-down Defense Position monsters, for attacks, except this one. You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Set card your opponent controls; destroy that target. You can only use this effect of "Ghostrick Alucard" once per turn. If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 other "Ghostrick" card in your Graveyard; add that target to your hand.

Having Alucard to target your opponent's card can help force them to use it early before you over invest on your field. Use Basilisk to send Catoblepas to XYZ into this easily.

Number 20: Giga-Brilliant
Number 20: Giga-Brilliant
LIGHT Insect ★3
ATK 1800 / DEF 1800
Number Hunter: Kite Tenjo Unlock Event [SR]
2 Level 3 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; all face-up monsters you currently control gain 300 ATK.

Giga-Brilliant can be summoned for its field-wide ATK boost, but usually you'll want to reserve him for making Corebage.

Wind-Up Zenmaines
Wind-Up Zenmaines
FIRE Machine ★3
ATK 1500 / DEF 2100
Voltage of the Metal [SR]
2 Level 3 monsters
If this face-up card on the field would be destroyed, you can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card instead. Once per turn, during the End Phase, if this effect was used this turn: Target 1 card on the field; destroy it.

It's a decent turn 1 defensive monster, especially if you can't get Medusa with Selene yet. But its effect won't be used that once you get the main combo going.

Digital Bug Corebage
Digital Bug Corebage
LIGHT Insect ★5
ATK 2200 / DEF 1800
Infinite Ray [R]
2 or more Level 5 LIGHT Insect-Type monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by detaching 2 Xyz Materials from a Rank 3 or 4 Insect-Type Xyz Monster you control, then using that Xyz Monster as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Defense Position monster your opponent controls; shuffle it into the Deck. Once per turn, if the battle position of a monster(s) on the field is changed (except during the Damage Step): You can attach 1 Insect-Type monster from your Graveyard to this card as Xyz Material.

Giga-Brilliant and Corebage can be used since the deck can special summon 2 level 3 on the field. Medusa with Selene can get high attack and good protection effects, but has no piercing damage effect. Having Corebage and Gaia Dragon will help when your opponent won't summon monsters in attack position.

Other Cards Option

Other Techs

Double Cyclone
Double Cyclone
Quick Spell
Valiant Souls [SR]
Ancient Gear Awakening [SR]
Selection Box Vol. 01 [SR]
Target 1 Spell/Trap Card you control and 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; destroy them.

The field spell and Gorgoneia gives a search effect when it's destroyed or in the grave so you can use this to get 2 advantages during certain situations. You can also use it on your Selene before your LP gets too low and end up taking yourself out.

Cosmic Cyclone
Cosmic Cyclone
Quick Spell
Galactic Origin [UR]
Selection Box Vol. 01 Mini [UR]
Pay 1000 LP, then target 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field; banish it.

Medusa with Selene gives a good amount of protection, but there are still plenty of dangerous spells/traps that your opponent can use like Drowning Mirror Force, Wall of Disruption, or anything to boost their own monsters.

The 1000 LP cost can definitely be dangerous to use with Evil Eyes, but it can help with using the skill earlier or as a quick ATK boost when you have Gorgoneia equipped. You can activate it when your opponent declares an attack for a surprise +1000 ATK.

Parallel Twister
Parallel Twister
Normal Spell
Blades of Spirits [SR]
Dragunity Overdrive [SR]
Send 1 other Spell/Trap Card you control to the Graveyard, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it.

Compared to Double Cyclone, this can be used on your opponent's monster. But using your field spell as the cost won't give the search effect, so use Selene when your LP is low, or Gorgoneia for a search effect instead.

Other Extra Decks

Number 47: Nightmare Shark
Number 47: Nightmare Shark
WATER Fish ★3
ATK 2000 / DEF 2000
Reginald Kastle Unlock Event [UR]
2 Level 3 monsters
When this card is Special Summoned: You can attach 1 Level 3 WATER monster from your hand or your side of the field to this card as an Xyz Material. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 WATER monster you control; this turn, that monster can attack your opponent directly, also other monsters cannot attack.

A decent option to bring, but since your opponent won't be able to target your Medusa, there's a decent chance that they will use it to stop Shark's attack. With only 2000 ATK, it can be hard to survive, so it may or may not be that good with the deck.

Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss
Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss
DARK Fiend ★3
ATK 1000 / DEF 2500
Fantastic Arc [UR]
2 Level 3 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card and choose a number from 1 to 3, then send that many cards from the top of your Deck to the Graveyard; until the end of this turn, this card gains 500 ATK for each card sent to the Graveyard this way. If this card attacks, it is changed to Defense Position at the end of the Battle Phase. If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 "Burning Abyss" card in your Graveyard, except this card; add it to your hand.

If you don't have any of the Evil Eye spell/trap cards, you can hope to mill them by making Dante with Medusa with Basilius/Catoblepas. Dante will also become 2500 ATK, so it's decent as a beater too.

Use Dante's effect to send the Selene to the grave. If you milled Gorgoneio, you can use it to search for Awakening so you can revive Medusa and recover an Evil Eye card.

Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger
Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger
WIND Dragon ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 2100
Infinite Ray [SR]
2 Level 7 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a Rank 5 or 6 Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.

A good monster to use if you go against defensive opponents with multiple set monsters. XYZ into Giga-Brilliant using the Basiliks + Catoblepas, then rank up into Corebage to activate its effect, then rank up into Gaia Dragon for the pierce effect.

Number 70: Malevolent Sin
Number 70: Malevolent Sin
DARK Insect ★4
ATK 2400 / DEF 1200
Photons of Galaxy [SR]
2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 monster your opponent controls; banish it until your opponent's next Standby Phase. At the end of the Damage Step, if this card attacked: You can make this card gain 300 ATK, and if you do, increase its Rank by 3.

Good generic rank 4 XYZ that can be used in most decks, but you might not go into this often at all since the deck is about building up the Medusas.

Gagaga Samurai
Gagaga Samurai
EARTH Warrior ★4
ATK 1900 / DEF 1600
Shining Hope [SR]
2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 "Gagaga" monster you control; it can make a second attack during each Battle Phase this turn. When another monster you control is targeted for an attack while this card is in Attack Position: You can change this card to Defense Position, and if you do, change the attack target to this card and perform damage calculation.

Gagaga Samurai is a better alternative to Kachi Kochi Dragon with a little less ATK. This is mainly because his double attack effect does not require you to destroy an opponent's monster by battle with the initial attack.

The attack redirecting effect is also good in "protect the castle" type of deck such as this. Use this to protect a buffed up Medusa.

Diamond Dire Wolf
Diamond Dire Wolf
EARTH Beast ★4
ATK 2000 / DEF 1200
Voltage of the Metal [SR]
2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast-Type monster you control and 1 other card on the field; destroy them.

Dire Wolf destroys itself along with any enemy card of your choice. Good for on-demand removal, but level 4 means that you'll need 2 Medusa, which isn't good since you want them to be used with the equip spells.

Number 50: Blackship of Corn
Number 50: Blackship of Corn
DARK Plant ★4
ATK 2100 / DEF 1500
Voltage of the Metal [SR]
2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls with ATK less than or equal to this card's; send it to the Graveyard, and if you do, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent. This card cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.

Gets rid of weak ATK enemy monsters particularly Ritual Beast Ulti-Pettlephin while also dealing a significant amount of burn damage.

Cheapest Meta Deck to build for a beginner. If you successfully equipped Selene to Medusa their are very few cards that can stop you. Catoblepas works wonders on protecting The equip spell. and Defeat is as hateful as dual weild.

Im playing the deck and I dont surrender at that point. Sometimes you can just keep 1 copy of storm in your hand to destroy selene in end game to still make plays and just add a second copy via second medusa or gorgoneo. Also sometimes at that point my opponent cant do anything to break my board already so theres no need to pay LP.

this deck need a limit 2 in either bassileus or the gorgenio, or the field spell. dueling against this deck in 2nd turn is quite unfair

No, it doesn't need any limit and will never be limited

Who else uses this as farming deck?

Other players prefer titan showdown but I prefer Duel fuel for more LP. Titan showdown is more of an aggressive skill especially with nightmare shark while duel fuel gives you more room of field control.

Evil Eye being meta is just another tier manipulation by DLM they must really want blue eyes to be spared from the banlist
<< Anonymous

Not really. Evil eye being meta is because less players now use their hard counter AKA Cosmic Cyclone. Back when CC is still one of the most played card, evil eye of selene cant really stay on the feild that long. Catoblepas also protects it from destruction. Only good counter to it in todays meta is deck that can make blackship of corn fast enough or BE Spirit but medusa can banish stone from GY.

This deck is suddenly strong due to less use of cosmic cyclone. If CC sees more play this deck would likely die lol.
