Bujin: Deck Recipe [Nov 18]

Duel Links Bujin deck, how to use Bujin, Bujin in the meta, how to make Bujin decks.
update 18/11/2021

Overview

“Bujin” is an archetype of Level 4 LIGHT monsters that are mostly based on Japanese folklore. There are four Beast-Warrior-Type monsters in this archetype and they are the primary focus of any “Bujin” deck.

The Winged Beast and Beast-Type monsters (“Bujingi”), are generally used to protect the Beast-Warrior-Type ones or to destroy cards on the opponent’s side of the field; Beast-Type “Bujingi” monsters can activate their effects only while they are in the Graveyard by being banished, whereas the Winged Beast ones can only do it while they are in the hand by being discarded.

There are two main ways to run this deck: the standard 20 cards version, which relies mostly on Bujin Yamato to fill the Graveyard with Beast-Type “Bujingi” monsters.

Archfiend Eccentrick

Archfiend Eccentrick
Archfiend Eccentrick
LIGHT Fiend ★3
ATK 800 / DEF 1000
Selection Box Vol.01 Super Mini [UR]
Pendulum Effect
You can target 1 other Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy both it and this card. You can only use this effect of "Archfiend Eccentrick" once per turn.

Monster Effect
You can Tribute this card, then target 1 monster on the field; destroy it. You can only use this effect of "Archfiend Eccentrick" once per turn.

Bujin Hiruko

Bujin Hiruko
Bujin Hiruko
LIGHT Beast-Warrior ★4
ATK 1000 / DEF 2000
Chaotic Soldiers [SR]
Pendulum Effect
You can banish this card from your Pendulum Zone, then target 1 "Bujin" Xyz Monster you control; Special Summon from your Extra Deck, 1 "Bujin" Xyz Monster with a different name than that target, by using it as the Xyz Material. (This Special Summon is treated as an Xyz Summon. Xyz Materials attached to it also become Xyz Materials on the Summoned monster.)

Monster Effect
A wicked god who was sealed away after his deadly showdown with Bujin Hirume over the throne of the Chief God in the distant past. In order to break the seal placed on him, he controlled Hirume, created the sinister Amaterasu, and threatened to engulf the world in darkness. But his ambitions were thwarted by the young Yamato and his allies.
Unexpected Dai
Unexpected Dai
Normal Spell
Stardust Acceleration [UR]
Gladiator's Storm [UR]
If you control no monsters: Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower Normal Monster from the Deck.

Beast-Warriors “Bujin”

These monsters are very important because controlling one of them face-up on the field is usually the minimum requirement for the activation of the effects of the Beast and Winged Beast-Type ones.

If you did not start with Bujin Yamato, you can use Ties of the Brethren to Special Summon it from the Deck at the cost of 2000 Life Points. It may seem like a hefty cost, but it does also allow you to activate Destiny Draw on the next turn.

Bujin Yamato
Bujin Yamato
LIGHT Beast-Warrior ★4
ATK 1800 / DEF 200
Resonance of Contrast [SR]
Once per turn, during your End Phase: You can add 1 "Bujin" monster from your Deck to your hand, then send 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard. You can only control 1 "Bujin Yamato".

During your End Phase, Bujin Yamato allows you to add a “Bujin” monster from your Deck to your hand and then send a card from your hand to the Graveyard.

This card can search your Beast-Type “Bujin” monsters and put them straight into the Graveyard, where they have to be for their effects to be activated, it can add Bujingi Crane to your hand, ready to be used during the opponent’s turn, or it can search another Beast-Warrior-Type “Bujin” monster like Bujin Mikazuchi, Bujin Arasuda or even another Bujin Yamato.

Needless to say, Bujin Yamato is a key component of this deck and a card you definitely want to have three copies of, despite the fact that you can only control one.

Bujin Mikazuchi
Bujin Mikazuchi
LIGHT Beast-Warrior ★4
ATK 1900 / DEF 1500
Crusaders Battleground [R]
Shining Hope [R]
When a Beast-Warrior-Type "Bujin" monster(s) you control is destroyed by battle or by card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. Once per turn, during the End Phase, if a "Bujin" monster(s) was sent from your hand to your Graveyard this turn while you controlled this face-up card: You can add 1 "Bujin" Spell/Trap Card from your Deck to your hand. You can only control 1 "Bujin Mikazuchi".

Bujin Mikazuchi, similarly to Bujin Arasuda, can be Special Summoned from the hand if a Beast-Warrior-Type “Bujin” monster is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the Graveyard. The second part of the effect of Mikazuchi, as I said, doesn’t really matter, but it has synergy with Bujin Yamato, Bujin Arasuda and all of the Winged Beast-Type “Bujin” monsters.

Bujin Hirume
Bujin Hirume
LIGHT Beast-Warrior ★4
ATK 2000 / DEF 1000
Crusaders Battleground [R]
Shining Hope [R]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 "Bujin" monster from your Graveyard, except "Bujin Hirume". If this card, which was Summoned this way, is destroyed by your opponent's card (by battle or card effect), and sent from your side of the field to your Graveyard, and both players have a hand: You can discard 1 card, then your opponent discards 1 card. You can only control 1 "Bujin Hirume".

Hirume's summoning makes use of Bujins in the graveyard with no graveyard effect. Decent base stats and a floating effect that rips a card from the opponent's hand.

Beasts “Bujingi”

Bujingi Crane
Bujingi Crane
LIGHT Winged Beast ★4
ATK 1600 / DEF 300
Blackstorm Rising [SR]
During damage calculation (in either player's turn), if a Beast-Warrior-Type "Bujin" monster you control battles an opponent's monster: You can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard; the ATK of your monster becomes double its original ATK, during that damage calculation only.

Bujingi Crane is a great Hand Trap that can be used during either player's turn to double the ATK of one of your Beast-Warrior-Type “Bujin” monster, but you might be wondering how exactly it is better than Bujingi Sinyou, as they have very similar effects afterall.

Bujingi Sinyou’s effect can only be activated from the Graveyard, which makes it very predictable, and, as a drawback, it also halves all damage inflicted during the battle it is used in; while I don’t really see the second part as that big of an issue, you have to admit that having something available that your opponent doesn’t necessarily know of is very appealing.

Remember that, when you add a card from the Deck to the hand with Bujin Yamato's effect, you also have to reveal it, which means that your opponent will always know what you decided to pick and will try to play around it. This is good because, if you added Bujingi Crane to your hand, the opponent will likely not attack you until he has a follow-up play available, but even starting off with Crane or drawing it later is great because it will be unexpected.

Another thing that really sets Bujingi Crane apart from Bujingi Sinyou is the fact that its effect can be activated during damage calculation rather than during the Damage Step, which means outside of the window of opportunity within which cards like Forbidden Chalice and Mirror Wall can be used.

Keep in mind that Bujingi Crane turns the ATK of your monster into double its original ATK: if a Field Spell or an Equip Spell is currently affecting the monster, it will be ignored.

Bujingi Sinyou
Bujingi Sinyou
LIGHT Beast ★4
ATK 1500 / DEF 1000
Crusaders Battleground [R]
During either player's Damage Step, if a Beast-Warrior-Type "Bujin" monster you control battles an opponent's monster: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; that monster you control gains ATK equal to the current ATK of the opponent's monster it is battling until the end of the Damage Step, and if it does, all battle damage your opponent takes from that battle is halved. You can only use this effect of "Bujingi Sinyou" once per turn.

Sinyou's effect practically guarantees your monster will win the battle similar to Crane's effect. However, Sinyou will most likely only be used when you declare battle, since your opponent will not attack you with Sinyou in the graveyard.

Bujingi Quilin
Bujingi Quilin
LIGHT Beast ★4
ATK 1600 / DEF 900
Crusaders Battleground [R]
If you control a Beast-Warrior-Type "Bujin" monster: You can banish this card from your Graveyard, then target 1 face-up card your opponent controls; destroy that target. You can only use the effect of "Bujingi Quilin" once per turn.

Similarly to Bujingi Centipede, Bujingi Quilin can be banished from your Graveyard during your Main Phase to target and destroy a face-up card your opponent controls, it can be useful against Masked HERO, as it forces the opponent to activate Mask Change, or even against Blue-Eyes and Vampire.

Bujingi Fox
Bujingi Fox
LIGHT Beast ★4
ATK 200 / DEF 2100
Aerial Assault [N]
During either player's turn: You can banish this card from your Graveyard and send 1 "Bujin" monster from your hand to the Graveyard; you take no damage this turn.

Prevents OTKs while loading a Bujingi into the graveyard.

Bujingi Hare
Bujingi Hare
LIGHT Beast ★4
ATK 1700 / DEF 500
Crusaders Battleground [R]
During either player's turn: You can banish this card from your Graveyard, then target 1 Beast-Warrior-Type "Bujin" monster you control; once during this turn, it cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects. You can only use the effect of "Bujingi Hare" once per turn.

Bujingi Hare prevents a Beast-Warrior-Type “Bujin” from being destroyed. This protects against the most common form of removal.

Bujingi Turtle
Bujingi Turtle
LIGHT Beast ★4
ATK 1700 / DEF 1200
Crusaders Battleground [N]
Shining Hope [N]
During either player's turn, when a card or effect is activated that targets a "Bujin" monster you control (except during the Damage Step): You can banish this card from your Graveyard; negate that effect.

Similar to Hare, Turtle is used to protect a Bujin monster. Turtle protects against targeting effects which are very common. Notably you want to protect against Fiendish Chain.

Lightsworn Engine

Their main purpose is to simply mill cards from your deck to fuel the grave. This can let you summon your monsters more safely if you have cards like Hare or Turtle, or to just have any Bujin in the grave to special summon Hirume for more combo plays.

Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress
Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress
LIGHT Spellcaster ★4
ATK 1700 / DEF 200
Primal Burst [UR]
Selection Box Vol. 01 Mini [UR]
You can target 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; this card's battle position cannot be changed until the end of your next turn, also change this card you control from face-up Attack Position to face-up Defense Position, and if you do, destroy that target. Once per turn, during your End Phase: Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

This helps destroy your opponent's spell/trap or to force them to use it. Main downside is that it will end up in defense position after the activation and that the milling only happens in the end phase.

Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn
Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn
LIGHT Warrior ★4
ATK 1700 / DEF 1000
Judgement Force [SR]
Selection Box Vol.04 [SR]
During your Main Phase: You can send the top 2 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard, then if any "Lightsworn" monsters were sent to the Graveyard by this effect, this card gains 200 ATK until the end of your opponent's turn. You can only use this effect of "Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn" once per turn. Once per turn, during your End Phase: Send the top 2 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

If you don't want to play Lyla, you can put more Raiden in the deck instead. Raiden lets you mill cards before the end of the turn, allowing you to extend some plays through Hirume, plus get more milling in the end phase.

It's also a tuner, and the Bujin monsters are all level 4, making it a versatile card since you can use it to synchro into a level 8 or make a rank 4.

Charge of the Light Brigade
Charge of the Light Brigade
Normal Spell
Judgement Force [SR]
Selection Box Vol.04 [SR]
Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard; add 1 Level 4 or lower "Lightsworn" monster from your Deck to your hand.

Searcher for the Lightsworn monsters, which will also mill cards from your deck in the process.

If you have Tenki and Charge of the Light Brigade in hand, make sure to search for what you want/need first with Tenki to prevent bad mills.

Fire Formation - Tenki

Fire Formation - Tenki
Fire Formation - Tenki
Continuous Spell
Eternal Stream [SR]
When this card is activated: You can add 1 Level 4 or lower Beast-Warrior-Type monster from your Deck to your hand. All Beast-Warrior-Type monsters you control gain 100 ATK. You can only activate 1 "Fire Formation - Tenki" per turn.

Beast Warrior Bujins are some of the most important monsters to this Deck so having Tenki fetch them is good for boosting consistency.

Xyz Enabler

Bujincarnation
Bujincarnation
Normal Spell
Shining Hope [R]
If your opponent controls a monster and you control no monsters: Target 1 "Bujin" monster in your Graveyard and 1 of your banished "Bujin" monsters; Special Summon both targets. They cannot be used as Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon, except for the Xyz Summon of a Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast-Type monster.

Bujincarnation essentially puts 2 Bujin monsters on the field for free, making it perfect for setting up an Xyz summon. Bujingi monsters are quite self-sufficient at loading your graveyard and banish zone so you'll always have monsters to Special Summon.

Extra Decks

Starliege Paladynamo
Starliege Paladynamo
LIGHT Warrior ★4
ATK 2000 / DEF 1000
Selection Box Vol.04 [UR]
Darkness Gimmick [UR]
2 Level 4 LIGHT monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 2 Xyz Materials from this card to target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; its ATK becomes 0, and if it does, its effects are negated. When this card you control is destroyed by your opponent's card (either by battle or by card effect) and sent to your Graveyard: Draw 1 card.

Usable in the deck since all of the Bujin (and Lightsworns) are LIGHT attributes. It's useful to negate strong boss monsters or get over high ATK ones, giving the deck some OTK potential.

Bujinki Amaterasu
Bujinki Amaterasu
LIGHT Beast-Warrior ★4
ATK 2600 / DEF 2500
Selection Box Vol.04 [SR]
3 Level 4 monsters
You can only control 1 "Bujinki Amaterasu". Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; apply this effect, depending on whose turn it is.
● Your turn: Target 1 of your banished Level 4 or lower monsters; Special Summon that target.
● Your opponent's turn: Target 1 of your banished Level 4 or lower monsters; add that target to your hand.

You'll usually want to use Amaterasu's effect on your turn to extend your field and possibly make more Xyz monsters. The effect activated during your opponent's turn isn't immediately useful because mostly likely you'll still need to get that monster into the graveyard to use its effect, still it's one of the few ways you can recover your banished cards.

Bujintei Tsukuyomi
Bujintei Tsukuyomi
LIGHT Beast-Warrior ★4
ATK 1800 / DEF 2300
Shining Hope [SR]
2 Level 4 LIGHT monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; send your entire hand to the Graveyard (min. 1), and if you do, draw 2 cards. When this card you controlled while face-up leaves the field because of an opponent's card effect: You can target Level 4 Beast-Warrior-Type "Bujin" monsters in your Graveyard, up to the number of Xyz Materials this card had on the field; Special Summon those targets. You can only control 1 "Bujintei Tsukuyomi".

Bujintei Tsukuyomi cycles Bujingi into the graveyard and refreshes your resources onhand.

Number 70: Malevolent Sin
Number 70: Malevolent Sin
DARK Insect ★4
ATK 2400 / DEF 1200
Photons of Galaxy [SR]
2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 monster your opponent controls; banish it until your opponent's next Standby Phase. At the end of the Damage Step, if this card attacked: You can make this card gain 300 ATK, and if you do, increase its Rank by 3.

Generally useful rank 4 to deal with strong boss monster, especially if it's an XYZ monster since it will also remove their materials.

Bujintei Susanowo
Bujintei Susanowo
LIGHT Beast-Warrior ★4
ATK 2400 / DEF 1600
Shining Hope [R]
2 Level 4 "Bujin" monsters
This card can attack all monsters your opponent controls once each. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; take 1 "Bujin" monster from your Deck, and either add it to your hand or send it to the Graveyard. You can only control 1 "Bujintei Susanowo".

The multi-attack effect is great for dealing a ton of damage. The search effect lets you search Bujingi for a number of possible effects. Most notably you can fetch Sinyou or Crane to attack over stronger enemy monsters.

Other Useful Cards

Bujin Arasuda

Bujin Arasuda
Bujin Arasuda
LIGHT Beast-Warrior ★4
ATK 1600 / DEF 1900
Resonance of Contrast [R]
If a "Bujin" monster in your Graveyard or face-up on your side of the field is banished (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card from your hand in face-up Defense Position. Once per turn, during the End Phase, if a "Bujin" card was added from your Deck to your hand this turn, except by drawing it, while you controlled this face-up card: You can draw 1 card, then discard 1 card. You can only control 1 "Bujin Arasuda".

If a “Bujin” monster in your Graveyard or face-up on the field is banished, you can Special Summon Bujin Arasuda from your hand; considering the fact that all Beast-Type monsters of this archetype have to be banished from the Graveyard in order to activate their effects, you are going to be able to do this quite often.

While it’s true that, with Amazons being gone, this particular effect may have lost a bit of significance, Spellbook of Fate is still a thing and being able to get another monster on the field after your Bujin Yamato is banished, is great.

Once per turn, if a “Bujin” card was added from your Deck to your hand outside of your Draw Phase, during the End Phase, Bujin Arasuda allows you to draw a card and then discard a card. This effect gives Bujin Arasuda great synergy with both Bujin Yamato and Bujin Mikazuchi, but, since we don’t run any “Bujin” Spell/Trap Cards in this version of the deck, the latter doesn’t actually matter.

Other Beast "Bujingi"

Bujingi Centipede
Bujingi Centipede
LIGHT Beast ★4
ATK 1700 / DEF 500
Resonance of Contrast [R}
Shining Hope [R]
If you control a Beast-Warrior-Type "Bujin" monster: You can banish this card from your Graveyard, then target 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; destroy that target. You can only use the effect of "Bujingi Centipede" once per turn.

Helps as an anti backrow card, but needing a Bujin monster on the field can make it a little slow, especially since most commonly used dangerous spells/traps will just stop your Bujin monster on the field before you activate this. But it's still a decent option to have if you already have a monster on the field before you do another summon.

Battlin Boxer Veil

Battlin Boxer Veil
Battlin Boxer Veil
FIRE Warrior ★4
ATK 0 / DEF 1800
Rage of Volcano [R]
When you take battle damage: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, gain Life Points equal to the damage you took.

Battlin Boxer Veil can protect you from a ton of damage as long as it isn't lethal. The inherent Special Summoning effect means that Battling Boxer Veil can catch a following attack to protect you further. Or, if he survives till your turn you can use him as Xyz material, pairing perfectly with your other Level-4 monsters.

Fire Formation - Tensu

Fire Formation - Tensu
Fire Formation - Tensu
Continuous Spell
Galactic Origin [R]
Selection Box Vol. 01 Mini [R]
During your Main Phase, you can Normal Summon 1 Beast-Warrior-Type monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set. (You can only gain this effect once per turn.) All Beast-Warrior-Type monsters you control gain 100 ATK.

Additionally, your Deck doesn't have much in terms of field swarming so Tensu can help you build some field presence. You can even use the Extra Normal Summon to go into an Xyz play.

Super rush headlong sometime work fine in bypassing Seiryou or Crane since the monster will be pop before they resolve. But otherwise DNA Surgery or Debunk can be a good card however it may be very unreliable since it may be unusable against other deck. Widespread ruin also a nice tech since its non targetting but be weary of Hare that is the only card that may ruin your day.

1st copy of Yamato shouldn't be too far to get.

Luckily previous Mini box still 80 packs per box.

Maybe I can finish the Bujin Deck after grinding some gems from KC Cup and few events after that.

Don't worry, you can play it without Ties of the Brethren, but I'll have you know it boosts the consistency of the deck by a lot. As for Mirror Wall, you can easily swap it for any other card that provides protection (Paleozoic Canadia, Super Rush Headlong, Sakuretsu Armor, Widespread Ruin, WoD et cetera).
