“Blackwing” is an archetype of mostly DARK Winged Beast-Type monsters that focus on swarming the field to then Special Summon powerful Synchro monsters.
If you had high hopes for this archetype, you were probably left disappointed by the contents of Blackstorm Rising: Blackwings were given the tools to swarm the field, but, as of right now, they severely lack options when it comes to the Extra Deck.
Black Whirlwind allows you to continuously replenish your resources by adding “Blackwing” monsters from your Deck to your hand every time a “Blackwing” monster is Normal Summoned to your side of the field.
You can only add to your hand a monster with less ATK than the one you have Normal Summoned with this effect, which means that Blackwing - Harmattan the Dust is essentially the only one you don’t want to start with.
If you add Blackwing - Bora the Spear or Harmattan the Dust to your hand with Blackwing Whirlwind’s effect, you will be able to Special Summon them from your hand right away thanks to their effects.
While it’s entirely possible to play this deck without this Continuous Spell, it is definitely a card you want to have multiple copies of: you are forced to run a minimum of 22 cards because of Mark of the Dragon - Tail, so something like Blackwing Whirlwind that is able to progressively thin your Deck is obviously going to help you out.
There are a couple cards you could include in your deck in order to take advantage of Shura the Blue Flame’s effect, but with the limited amount of Synchros we have available and no Main Phase 2, it will mostly not be worth it.
If you Normal Summon Shura the Blue Flame while Whirlwind is active, you will be able to add any of the other “Blackwing” monsters to your hand.
Bora the Spear is able to inflict piercing damage to your opponent, it has just enough ATK to get over any of the Level 4 “Destiny HERO” monsters and its effect also allows you to Special Summon it from your hand as long as you control another “Blackwing” monster.
Just like Blackwing - Bora the Spear, Harmattan the Dust can be Special Summoned from your hand if you control a face-up “Blackwing” monster with a different name, it’s a Level 2, which makes it very versatile when it comes to Synchro Summoning, and it is pretty much needed if you want to Summon Blackwing - Silverwind the Ascendant Consistently.
You can add Harmattan the Dust to your hand with Whirlwind by Normal Summon Blackwing - Blizzard the Far North, Special Summon Bora the Spear or Shura the Black Flame from the Graveyard and then Special Summon Harmattan the Dust from your hand to go into a Level 8 Synchro.
When Harmattan the Dust is Normal or Special Summoned, it allows to increase its Level by the Level of another “Blackwing” monster you control.
You might be surprised I decided not to go for Mirror Wall this time, but I do believe that both Sphere Kuriboh and Paleozoic Canadia are superior defensive options when you pair them up with a card like Blackwing Armed Wing that can take advantage of those Defense Position or face-down monsters;
Gravity Warrior is a Level 6 Synchro with generic requirements that can reach up to 3000 ATK depending on how many monsters your opponent controls when it is Synchro Summoned and even force a Defense Position monster your opponent controls to attack.
Blackwing Silverwind the Ascendant is a Level 8 Synchro with an extremely powerful effect, but you have to use at least 2 non-Tuner monsters in order to Special Summon it from your Extra Deck.
When Blackwing - Silverwind the Ascendant is Synchro Summoned, it allows you to destroy up to 2 face-up monsters on the field with DEF lower than its ATK, so, while it is not able to naturally get over a Blue-Eyes White Dragon, a Cosmo Brain or a Masked HERO Anki, it can still get rid of them quite easily.
Once per turn, Silverwind Ascendant also prevents your first “Blackwing” monster that would be destroyed from being destroyed by battle or card effect. Silverwind Ascendant would honestly be a great card if it wasn’t for how difficult it is to Summon it.
Since Blackwing - Blizzard the Far North is not available yet in any other way, this is the best Skill you can run with this deck at the moment. If the Level 2 Tuner will be released in a future BOX, Balance might become a decent option.
Getting multiple “Blackwing” monsters on the field is not that big of an issue, as most of them are either able to Special Summon themselves from the hand or at least Special Summon another monster of their own archetype, the real problem is that there is very little you can do afterwards with these monsters.
Here is my best Blackwing build. I think this can get to at least legend rank.
2x Sphere Kubioh
2x Black Whirlwind
2x Galaxy Cyclone (or other anti back row spell of your choice)
2x Offerings to the Doomed (pretty crucial imho)
1x Troposphere (immune to Traps)
1x Treacherous Trap Hole
Skill: Mark of the Dragon Tail (Crow Hogan skill)...
This deck works if you learn how to play it correctly.
With the above deck, the additional draw effects of Blackwings let you use Offerings to the Doomed a little more recklessly than another archetype might allow. Use it to immediately blow up Cosmo Brain and Fur Hires (or anything else you need to remove immediately or to set up OTK). Hopefully the additional draw effects will get the number of cards in your hand back to neutral.
Sadly, you'll need to rely on traps and econ take (at least for now). I believe they didn't want to release more blackwings support because they don't want to release an expensive and also broken deck. It wont be good for the game.
Would Armor Master be OP in this format? No! A simple Widespread/Sakuretsu/Mirror Wall/Wall of disruption/Econ tribute take could easily deal with it. Blue-eyes (a deck that I own) can summon a 3,000k beater which, in a certain way, cannot be destroyed by battle also (due to its hight stats) and can summon a backrow removal monster on the top of that. Armor Master would have been the win condition to Blackwings and would have made them at least decent, but Konami chooses to give us nothing instead. That's why Duel Links is sometimes mediocre and lame. Give us the card and if it turns to be too OP, limit it, like you've done to Fur Hires and a bunch of others decks
I think this guy is right. Blue eyes is a bigger treat then armor Master because it's just too easy to summon it and on the other hand we already have azure to keep bringing big monster black from the grave, so there are no good reasons to not release armor Master...

I know that Optimal = Expensive, But could There be... I dunno, a BlackWing Synchro Deck That doesn’t require 3 Bora’s? A more F2P version that maybe isn’t the best, but can still make use of some of the other BlackWings released?
