When an opponent's monster declares a direct attack: Negate the attack, and if you do, draw 1 card, then if it is a monster, immediately after this effect resolves, you can Normal Summon it in face-up Attack Position.

I see, I remember being able to summon Palladium Oracle Mahad. So I just looked at his effect. And, on draw he can summon himself. That's why I thought dark magician could be summoned lol

I used it in a duel when I was getting attacked directly, drew dark magician but it didn’t let me summon it. Why does it work sometimes but not others?

So let's say the opponent declares a direct attack while I control a monster (via Gear Golem the Moving Fortress for instance). Can you tribute your monster on the field if you activate Counter Gate and draw a 5+ star monster?

Absolutely. Tribute summon is a type of normal summon so the answer is yes you can.

Unfortunately nope, not every creature on Spell/Trap card artworks actually exist as a monster card.

Idk to me it seems u dnt need to tribute because it says u xan normal summon it if its a monster is like a s special summon but is considered a normal without habing to tribute. Dsnt say u must tribute.

It doesn't say so, because it's a very basic ruling. A level 5 or higher monster needs tributes to be Normal Summoned, that's one of the first few things you read in the rulebook.

Yeah, unless that level 4 or lower monster says they cannot be Normal Summoned.

You can Normal Summon a Level 5 or higher, but that isn't going to magically ignore the required Tributes. You'd still need to Tribute 2 monsters to Normal Summon a drawn Blue-Eyes White Dragon, for example.

Absolutely but if you draw a higher level monster, you must tribute monsters on your field so if you control only 1 monster but the monster that was drew by this effect needs two you cannot normal summon it. When it comes to those that cannot be normal summoned, it won't allow you to summon the monster you drew by this card's effect.
