Star Seraph: deck recipe [Feb 16]

Duel Links Star Seraph deck, Star Seraph in the current meta, how to use.
update 16/02/2023

Overview

The Star Seraphs can give a good amount of card advantage when used for an XYZ, but they can only be used for an XYZ that requires 3 materials. The advantage allows it to be played with counter traps, making them good as a control-type deck.

How to Play

Star Seraph Monsters

Star Seraph Scepter
Star Seraph Scepter
LIGHT Fairy ★4
ATK 1800 / DEF 400
Infinite Ray [UR]
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 "Star Seraph" monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Star Seraph Scepter". An Xyz Monster that was Summoned using 3 or more monsters, including this card on the field, as Xyz Materials gains this effect.
● When it is Xyz Summoned: You can target 1 other card on the field; destroy it, and if you do, you can draw 1 card.

Normal Summon Scepter to fetch another Star Seraph monster, usually Sovereignty. The problem of this deck is this is often all you can do during the first turn. Ending your turn with only Scepter onboard is not good so we run a lot of backrow to compensate.

Using Specter as Xyz material gives you extra card advantage by destroying any enemy card and giving you a free draw.

Star Seraph Sovereignty
Star Seraph Sovereignty
LIGHT Fairy ★4
ATK 800 / DEF 2000
Infinite Ray [SR]
Cannot be used as an Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon, except for an Xyz Summon that uses 3 or more monsters as Xyz Materials. If you Normal or Special Summon a "Star Seraph" monster(s), except during the Damage Step: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, draw 1 card, then you can Special Summon it if it is a "Star Seraph" monster.

Sovereignty is a good field extender, giving you an extra monster to make a Rank-4 Xyz with 3 materials. However, you can only use it to make the Rank-4 Xyz that require at least 3 materials so having only it and Scepter on hand is only good for resource gain and won't net you any Xyz monsters.

Star Seraph Scout
Star Seraph Scout
LIGHT Fairy ★4
ATK 1200 / DEF 1800
Infinite Ray [R]
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 "Star Seraph" monster from your hand.

Scout gives you a more solid first turn field presence. If you also have Scepter on hand, you can Special Summon it with Scout's effect and trigger the search while also ending your turn on a Rank-4 Xyz.

D.D. Crow

D.D. Crow
D.D. Crow
DARK Winged Beast ★1
ATK 100 / DEF 100
Shining Hope [UR]
Selection Box Vol.05 [UR]
During either player's turn: You can discard this card to the Graveyard to target 1 card in your opponent's Graveyard; banish that target.

Great Counter against the Deck Type that heavily relies on Graveyard Combo.

Techs

Warning Point

Link Revolution [UR]
When a monster(s) is Summoned: This turn, that face-up monster(s) cannot attack, its effects are negated, also it cannot be used as material for a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Summon.

Target 1 monster in your GY; Special Summon it in Defense Position.

Extra Deck

Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon
Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon
DARK Dragon ★4
ATK 2500 / DEF 2000
Phantom of Rebellion [UR]
2 Level 4 monsters
You can detach 2 Xyz Materials from this card, then target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; its ATK becomes half its current ATK, and if it does, this card gains that lost ATK.
Abyss Dweller
Abyss Dweller
WATER Sea Serpent ★4
ATK 1700 / DEF 1400
Photons of Galaxy [UR]
Selection Box Vol.03 Mini [UR] [UR]
2 Level 4 monsters
While this card has an Xyz Material attached that was originally WATER, all WATER monsters you control gain 500 ATK. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; any card effects that activate in your opponent's Graveyard cannot be activated this turn.
Starliege Paladynamo
Starliege Paladynamo
LIGHT Warrior ★4
ATK 2000 / DEF 1000
Selection Box Vol.04 [UR]
Darkness Gimmick [UR]
2 Level 4 LIGHT monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 2 Xyz Materials from this card to target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; its ATK becomes 0, and if it does, its effects are negated. When this card you control is destroyed by your opponent's card (either by battle or by card effect) and sent to your Graveyard: Draw 1 card.
Stellarknight Delteros
Stellarknight Delteros
LIGHT Warrior ★4
ATK 2500 / DEF 2100
Shining Hope [UR]
3 Level 4 monsters
While this card has Xyz Material, your opponent cannot activate cards or effects when you Normal or Special Summon a monster(s). Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it. If this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "tellarknight" monster from your hand or Deck.

Delteros' role would mostly be for removing problematic backrow. Delteros also protects your monsters against the prevalent Floodgate Trap Hole.

You can also choose to slot in at least 1 Satellarknight Altair to get some floating effect from Delteros. This makes it so that your opponent has to destroy your monsters 3 times before they get to attack directly.

Evilswarm Ouroboros
Evilswarm Ouroboros
DARK Dragon ★4
ATK 2750 / DEF 1950
Selection Box Vol.04 [SR]
3 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then activate 1 of these effects. Each effect can only be used once while this card is face-up on the field.
● Target 1 card your opponent controls; return that target to the hand.
● Send 1 random card from your opponent's hand to the Graveyard.
● Target 1 card in your opponent's Graveyard; banish that target.

Ouroboros is one of the more powerful Rank-4 Xyz due to having three different good effects that can be used once each while it is on the field. The first effect is a simple yet effective targeted removal effect. The second effect when used early in the Duel, can limit your opponent's plays by reducing their resources. When used correctly, the third effect can get rid of a crucial card in the graveyard.

If you made this using Scale as material, don't spend its last material.

Number 91: Thunder Spark Dragon
Number 91: Thunder Spark Dragon
LIGHT Dragon ★4
ATK 2400 / DEF 2000
Infinite Ray [SR]
3 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn, you can activate 1 of these effects.
● Detach 3 Xyz Materials from this card; destroy all other face-up monsters on the field.
● Detach 5 Xyz Materials from this card; destroy all cards your opponent controls.

Summon Thunder Spark Dragon and use its effect for a field wipe. Gets rid of your opponent's entire board set up, and especially punishing to opponents that overcommit their board.

Knightmare Unicorn
Knightmare Unicorn
DARK Fiend
ATK 2200 / DEF 3
Future Circuit [UR]
2+ monsters with different names
If this card is Link Summoned: You can discard 1 card, then target 1 card on the field; shuffle it into the Deck, then, if this card was co-linked when this effect was activated, you can draw 1 card. You can only use this effect of "Knightmare Unicorn" once per turn. While any co-linked "Knightmare" monsters are on the field, for your normal draw in your Draw Phase, draw 1 card for each different card name among those co-linked "Knightmare" monsters, instead of drawing just 1 card.
Link Disciple
Link Disciple
LIGHT Cyberse
ATK 500 / DEF 1
Link Revolution [R]
1 Level 4 or lower Cyberse monster
You can Tribute 1 monster this card points to; draw 1 card, then place 1 card from your hand on the bottom of the Deck. You can only use this effect of "Link Disciple" once per turn.

Other Cards Option

Other Star Seraph Monster

Star Seraph Scale
Star Seraph Scale
LIGHT Fairy ★4
ATK 1500 / DEF 900
Infinite Ray [R]
When this card is Special Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 "Star Seraph" monster from your hand, then you can place 1 LIGHT monster from your Graveyard on top of your Deck. An Xyz Monster that was Xyz Summoned using 3 or more monsters, including this card on the field, as Xyz Materials gains this effect.
● Once per turn, while this card has Xyz Material, if a monster(s) is Special Summoned from the hand, immediately draw 1 card.

Like most of your Main Deck monsters, Scale is a field extender. Scale combos with Scout; Normal Summon Scout then Special Summon Scale. Scale can then Special Summon Scepter for an extra search, or you can Special Summon Sovereignty to immediately retrieve the LIGHT monster you put at the top of the Deck.

Using Scale as an Xyz material effectively turns the summoned Xyz monster into a draw engine.

Ritual Beast Engine

Spiritual Beast Tamer Winda
Spiritual Beast Tamer Winda
WIND Psychic ★4
ATK 1600 / DEF 1800
Spirit of the Beast [UR]
Selection Box Vol.04 [UR]
If this card in its owner's possession is destroyed by an opponent's card (by battle or card effect): You can Special Summon 1 "Ritual Beast" monster from your Deck or Extra Deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions. You can only Special Summon "Spiritual Beast Tamer Winda(s)" once per turn.

Easily splashable monster in any deck, not because of its stats, but because of how easily it can become either a high ATK beater or a high DEF monster to block attacks.

One downside to keep in mind is that the Star Seraphs can only XYZ into a monster that requires 3 monsters. If Winda gets destroyed and you special summon the fusion monsters, you won't be able to XYZ do a rank 4 XYZ since the fusions are level 6.

Ritual Beast Ulti-Apelio
Ritual Beast Ulti-Apelio
WIND Pyro ★6
ATK 2600 / DEF 400
Spirit of the Beast [UR]
Selection Box Vol.04 [UR]
1 "Ritual Beast Tamer" monster + 1 "Spiritual Beast" monster
Must be Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by banishing the above cards you control, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. (You do not use "Polymerization".) If this card attacks, it is unaffected by other cards' effects until the end of the Damage Step. During either player's turn: You can return this card you control to the Extra Deck, then target 2 of your banished monsters (1 "Ritual Beast Tamer" monster and 1 "Spiritual Beast" monster); Special Summon them in Defense Position.

Its last effect is unusable in this deck since there aren't any "Ritual Beast Tamer"s, but it's still useful as a beater with a good chance of being able to attack.

Unaffected by other card effects when it's attacking gives it a strong immunity to literally everything. Allowing you to attack safely even if you know your opponent is playing something like a Drowning Mirror Force or Sphere Kuriboh.

Ritual Beast Ulti-Pettlephin
Ritual Beast Ulti-Pettlephin
WIND Aqua ★6
ATK 200 / DEF 2800
Spirit of the Beast [R]
1 "Ritual Beast Tamer" monster + 1 "Spiritual Beast" monster
Must be Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by banishing the above cards you control, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. (You do not use "Polymerization".) Cannot be destroyed by card effects. During either player's turn: You can return this card you control to the Extra Deck, then target 2 of your banished monsters (1 "Ritual Beast Tamer" monster and 1 "Spiritual Beast" monster); Special Summon them in Defense Position.

Has high DEF and can't be destroyed by card effects. Provides a good answer to decks that relies on destroying through card effects like Fire Kings.

Parshath Engine

Avenging Knight Parshath
Avenging Knight Parshath
LIGHT Fairy ★8
ATK 2600 / DEF 2100
Ranked Rewards [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner LIGHT monsters
Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; change that target's battle position. If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.

This is just an extra bonus that you can bring out after using the Rebirth of Parshath counter trap. Its effect can be helpful to deal with many monsters, so it's worth bringing at least 1. But summoning this also means that you won't be able to do a rank 4 XYZ with the Star Seraphs.

Rebirth of Parshath
Rebirth of Parshath
Counter Trap
Lords of Shining [R]
When a Spell/Trap Card, or monster effect, is activated: Reveal 1 Counter Trap in your hand, then discard 1 card and pay 1000 LP; negate the activation, and if you do, shuffle that card into the Deck. Then, you can Special Summon 1 "Parshath" monster from your Deck or Extra Deck.

This is the main and strongest counter trap in the deck. It can negate just about anything and also bring out a monster from your extra deck.

The deck has 9 counter traps, so there's a decent chance you can activate it, especially since it can negate most things compared to the other counter traps.

Battlin's Boxer Veil

Battlin Boxer Veil
Battlin Boxer Veil
FIRE Warrior ★4
ATK 0 / DEF 1800
Rage of Volcano [R]
When you take battle damage: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, gain Life Points equal to the damage you took.

Helps keep you safe for when you don't have a monster to summon, or don't want to summon Scepter because there's only Sovereignty in hand.

Other Techs

Forbidden Chalice
Forbidden Chalice
Quick Spell
Servants of Kings [SR]
Selection Box Vol. 01 Mini [SR]
Target 1 face-up monster on the field; until the end of this turn, that target gains 400 ATK, but its effects are negated.

To negate your opponent's monster so you can stop their combo.

Divine Wrath
Divine Wrath
Counter Trap
Valkyrie's Rage [UR]
When a monster effect is activated: Discard 1 card; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that monster.

Most decks rely on monster effects to extend their combos, so having this to stop them can be crucial. This is arguably the easiest one to use out of the other counter traps, but it can also end up being stuck in your spell/trap zone if your opponent doesn't use any monster effect.

Ultimate Providence
Ultimate Providence
Counter Trap
Crimson Kingdom [R]
Selection Box Vol. 01 [R]
Dragunity Overdrive [R]
Blue-Eyes Evolution [R]
When a Spell/Trap Card, or monster effect, is activated: Discard the same type of card (Monster, Spell, or Trap); negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that card.

To add more into the deck so that you can use Rebirth of Parshath easier. It's about as useful as the other ones with an extra bit of utility.

The restriction helps give it an option, but the discard cost can end up making it less flexible than Divine Wrath.

Other Extra Decks

Number C39: Utopia Ray
Number C39: Utopia Ray
LIGHT Warrior ★4
ATK 2500 / DEF 2000
Infinite Ray [UR]
3 Level 4 LIGHT monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a "Number 39: Utopia" you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; it gains 500 ATK and 1 monster your opponent controls loses 1000 ATK, until the End Phase. You must have 1000 Life Points or less to activate and to resolve this effect.

Utopia Ray can be summoned by using a single Utopia as material. Do this when you're going on the offensive, effectively exchanging Utopia's protection effect for Utopia Ray's ATK manipulation.

Number 39: Utopia
Number 39: Utopia
LIGHT Warrior ★4
ATK 2500 / DEF 2000
Shining Hope [UR]
2 Level 4 monsters
When any player's monster declares an attack: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the attack. When this card is targeted for an attack, while it has no Xyz Materials: Destroy this card.

A good flexible option to make on your first turn. Utopia's protection effect can be used to defend against enemy attacks. And later you can switch Utopia into Utopia Ray.

Night Papilloperative
Night Papilloperative
DARK Warrior ★4
ATK 2600 / DEF 2000
Ranked Rewards [SR]
3 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; this card gains 300 ATK for each Xyz Material attached to a monster on the field.

At first activation of its effect, Night Papilloperative would get at least a 600 ATK boost putting it above most monsters. But due to the prevalence of Xyz monsters this boost could be much higher. The stat boost is also permanent so boost from each activation will stack.

Vylon Disigma
Vylon Disigma
LIGHT Fairy ★4
ATK 2500 / DEF 2100
Rage of Volcano [SR]
3 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to target 1 face-up Attack Position Effect Monster your opponent controls; equip that target to this card. At the start of the Damage Step, if this card battles a monster whose Attribute is the same as a card equipped by this effect: Destroy that monster.

Disigma is generally the best Rank-4 to make with 3 materials. Its absorption effect is a great form of removal and gives it great a advantage over any monster of that attribute. Many archetypes are composed of a single attribute of monsters, making Disigma quite potent against them.

Number 70: Malevolent Sin
Number 70: Malevolent Sin
DARK Insect ★4
ATK 2400 / DEF 1200
Photons of Galaxy [SR]
2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 monster your opponent controls; banish it until your opponent's next Standby Phase. At the end of the Damage Step, if this card attacked: You can make this card gain 300 ATK, and if you do, increase its Rank by 3.

Malevolent Sin is an anti-Xyz tech. Summon Malevolent Sin and use its effect to temporarily banish an enemy Xyz monster. The Xyz monster will return with no materials attached to it.

Number 50: Blackship of Corn
Number 50: Blackship of Corn
DARK Plant ★4
ATK 2100 / DEF 1500
Voltage of the Metal [SR]
2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls with ATK less than or equal to this card's; send it to the Graveyard, and if you do, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent. This card cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.

We use Blackship of Corn mainly because of its burn damage. Use this when the opponent controls a low-ATK monster, to deal a significant amount of damage. The effect does not destroy so it's a good way to deal with Ritual Beast Ulti-Pettlephin.

Diamond Dire Wolf
Diamond Dire Wolf
EARTH Beast ★4
ATK 2000 / DEF 1200
Voltage of the Metal [SR]
2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast-Type monster you control and 1 other card on the field; destroy them.
