Overview

Dark World decks have been competitive in the TCG, however in Duel Links we are currently missing some very important cards like the field spell “The Gates of Dark World” and “Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World”, so we have to make do with a very incomplete version of this deck.

The Dark World is an interesting archetype because it revolves around discarding your own cards to have their effects activate, some of them also have secondary bonus effects when they are discarded by an opponent’s card effect. Although it is unlikely that you will discard cards because of your opponent (one example would be Saffira, Queen of Dragons) there is a Dark World monster that can be summoned to your opponent’s field that makes you discard a card, meaning you discard a card because of your opponent’s card effect (because they control it).

How to Use

Summary

The most competitive (and fun) strategy to use with Dark World will be to pull off the "Ceruli, Guru of Dark World" and "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" or "Reign-Beaux, Overlord of Dark World". If you are able to do this play you can either destroy all your opponent’s monsters or spells/trap and try to quickly end the duel afterward.

Ceruli Combo

Ceruli, Guru of Dark World
Ceruli, Guru of Dark World
DARK Fiend ★1
ATK 100 / DEF 300
Primal Burst [SR]
If this card is discarded to the Graveyard by a card effect: Special Summon this card from the Graveyard to your opponent's side of the field in face-up Defense Position. When this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Dark World" card: Your opponent must discard 1 card.

Your goal is to discard “Ceruli, Guru of Dark World” while you have “Reign-Beaux, Overlord of Dark World” in hand. This will cause your Ceruli to be summoned to your opponent’s side of the field and will make you discard 1 card, if you choose to discard Reign-Beaux his effect will activate (because he was discarded by an opponent’s card effect), and you can special summon him from your graveyard and choose to either destroy all your opponent’s monsters or all his spells/traps.

This combo is very devastating and will most likely be the best way to play this deck currently. Most of the time you would be destroying all monsters your opponent controls and then using Anti-Magic Arrows or Hey, Trunade to deal with their backrow.

Snoww, Unlight of Dark World

Snoww, Unlight of Dark World
Snoww, Unlight of Dark World
DARK Fiend ★4
ATK 1700 / DEF 0
Primal Burst [UR]
If this card is discarded to the Graveyard by a card effect: If it was discarded from your hand to your Graveyard by an opponent's card effect, you can target 1 monster in your opponent's Graveyard; add 1 "Dark World" card from your Deck to your hand, then Special Summon that target (if any) in face-up Defense Position.

This card allows you to choose one Dark World card in your deck and add it to your hand, so not only is it a decent beatstick with 1700 atk, it allows you to search (when discarded) whatever Dark World card works best depending on the situation you are in.

This is an important searcher in Dark World decks and makes these decks run more consistently if you have 3 copies of this card (for the optimal version of a Dark World deck this probably is a must have card at 3 copies). Unfortunately this card is a UR in a box with 200 packs, so a lot of people will either not play this deck or run a less consistent version because of that.

If you can discard this card because “Ceruli, Guru of Dark World” was summoned to your opponent’s side of the field, you can special summon one monster from your opponent’s graveyard in face-down defense position.

Broww, Huntsman of Dark World

Broww, Huntsman of Dark World
Broww, Huntsman of Dark World
DARK Fiend
ATK 1400 / DEF 800
Primal Burst [R]
If this card is discarded to the Graveyard by a card effect: Draw 1 card, plus another card if this card was discarded from your hand to your Graveyard by an opponent's card effect.

When this card is discarded you draw 1 card, what this means is that you aren’t losing card advantage when using for example Trance Archfiend’s effect and at the same time you are also fueling your graveyard to summon a Dark Necrofear.

In the version with “Ceruli, Guru of Dark World” you’d want to run more copies of this card because you could draw 2 cards thanks to Ceruli’s effect.

Trance Archfiend

Trance Archfiend
Trance Archfiend
DARK Fiend ★4
ATK 1500 / DEF 500
Yami Bakura [SR]
Once per turn: You can discard 1 Fiend-Type monster, and this card gains 500 ATK until the End Phase. When this card you control is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 of your banished DARK monsters; add that target to your hand.

A very important card to run in Dark World decks because it currently is one of the easiest ways to discard your Dark World monsters and activate their effects because you can do it over and over again each turn. Because you also run Dark Necrofear in this deck , you could possibly also get use out of its secondary effect to get back one of your banished monsters.

Draw Spells

This card allows you to draw further into your deck, getting closer to your combo pieces, and also discard to trigger the effects of Dark World monsters.

The Gates of Dark World
The Gates of Dark World
Field Spell
Gaia Genesis [UR]
All Fiend-Type monsters gain 300 ATK and DEF. Once per turn: You can banish 1 Fiend-Type monster from your Graveyard; discard 1 Fiend-Type monster, then draw 1 card.

Gates of the Dark World is their field spell that allows you to banish a Fiend in your graveyard to draw and then discard a card from your hand. It also gives all your Fiend monsters a small 300 attack boost which might be helpful when performing OTKs.

Dark World Dealings
Dark World Dealings
Normal Spell
Valiant Souls [UR]
Each player draws 1 card, then each player discards 1 card.

Dark World Dealings allows you to draw a card and then discard a card.

For both Gates of the Dark World and Dark World Dealings the best card to discard, when you have not drawn your combo yet, are Snoww, Unlight of Dark World and Broww, Huntsman of Dark World so you do not lose resource count. You can only activate each Gates of the Dark World's draw effect once per turn, but you can activate another copy to replace your current Gates of the Dark World to use it's draw effect again.

Additional Notes

Some of the Dark World effects can be confusing, for example players might wonder why they can’t activate a Dark World effect when they discard a monster with Tribute to the Doomed. The reason for this is that the discard with Tribute to the doomed is a cost, not an effect. Compare it to Dark World Lightning, this card says “then discard 1 card” after you destroyed a set spell/trap, this part is written after the semi-colon (“ ; “) , while the “discard 1 card” on Tribute to the Doomed is written before the semi-colon. This also means that if you activate Tribute to the doomed, and someone uses Magic Jammer, you will still discard 1 card (because that’s the cost for its activation), but when someone uses Magic Jammer on Dark World Lightning, you won’t discard 1 card (because its effect was stopped).

  • Don’t forget for a Dark World card’s effect to activate the card you used must clearly say “discard” (sending to the graveyard is not the same as discarding), and the discard must be an effect and not a cost to activate that card!

  • The reason Floodgate Trap Hole is preferred over other defensive spells/traps is because of the synergy with Dark World Lightning. If you target one of their set monsters with it, you have the advantage that they can’t flip over your target which would prevent you from using Dark World lightning’s discard effect.

  • The current playstyle of this deck feels a bit like OTK Ice Barriers. Just like Ice Barriers you prefer to go second , and if you aren’t able to finish your opponent in one turn, chances are you can’t climb back.

You don't need void at all.

Ceruli is broken ever since the new update, he doesn't appear on the opponent's side of the field.

So how does this fare post-nerf?

Still not great, especially considering all the boxes you have to invest in to make a good deck of them

The only problem with this deck is that if your opponent has just one card to shut down your first turn, you"re dead.

This deck doesn’t even compare to the actual TCG deck i have. It’s missing Grapha, Goldd, Silva Colourless. Heck it’s even missing Gateway to the Dark World, Dark Bribe. And why the hell do they make all the essential cards like Dark Smog or Card Guard so freaking hard to get? I can’t even get ONE Ceruli without spending
1000 over gems!! This deck is way too ex and it’s missing key TCG cards

Colorless isn't even a real card.

I'm afraid that Grappha, Silva and Gold come in ex strutura box, or each as a UR in diferents boxes. Konami likes to make this deck desnecesarilly expensive
Anonymous
Some things are done to cause confusion, like discarding for efect and not for activation cost. Why they not choose another key world so? Discard is discard, you not need to acept some like, hey man its dont work because this discard is an activation cost. 0

My DW deck is complete and fun to play. But one good back row card and this deck is dead.
Mermails are good
Still 🔥 no difference lol

This is the most expensive tier 3 deck ever LMFAO

They ought to update the deck since they got their field spell now.

Hmmmm, Ok, if I would like to play with a DW deck, what do I need - buy: 3x Primal Burst to get UR Snoww and UR DW lightning, then 3x Valiant Souls to get UR DW Dealings, then 2x BOX 14 to get the UR field spell + I need some other cards (trap/spell) from other Boxes ... so, I need like 50k gems + luck or a hell lot of money.

Konami being an 🔥 by releasing this archetype on seperated big box (and previously cash only box) without give them full support. This isn't P2W deck, this is Pay to get your 🔥 kicked.

Dealings is the ONLY such card, though. Most of the remaining Dark World stuff is still above DL's current power level. There are archetypes that could legitimately complain about this issue (Gem-Knights, Naturia and Cloudians for instance), but Dark Worlds just have Dealings. (Which I suspect you wouldn't have gotten at all if it hadn't debuted in a cash-only box.)

So you think DW full support is too op for DL yet komoney release insane archetype that dominate meta like (was) sylvan and (now) fur hire? I want to throw coins to komoney faces.
Goo Goo Boy
Outdated, nobody runs Dark World decks anymore. Its sad, because they are fun to play, but gem expensive and missing cards.
