How to Play

Mermail Engine

The Mermail Engine consists of a bunch of Mermail monsters with search effects. The goal is to get Abysspike onboard and use Abysspike's effect to search your Crystrons. Aside from that, they also function fairly well at thinning the Deck and loading Crystrons to the graveyard.

Mermail Abyssteus
Mermail Abyssteus
WATER Aqua ★7
ATK 1700 / DEF 2400
Cybernetic Rebellion [UR]
You can discard 1 other WATER monster to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from your hand. When you do: Add 1 Level 4 or lower "Mermail" monster from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Mermail Abyssteus" once per turn.

Aside from loading a WATER monster into the graveyard and searching Abysspike, Abyssteus also has synergy with the SSA components of the deck. Firstly, being a high-level WATER monster, gives Abyssteus access to SSA's removal effect.

You can Special Summon Abyssteus, then search and Normal Summon Abysspike. Now that you have two WATER monsters onboard, you can send them both to the graveyard to summon Citadel Whale and fetch SSA.

Mermail Abysspike
Mermail Abysspike
WATER Fish ★4
ATK 1600 / DEF 800
Gaia Genesis [SR]
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can discard 1 WATER monster to the Graveyard; add 1 Level 3 WATER monster from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Mermail Abysspike" once per turn.

Summoning Aysspike's search effect is the main reason to run this Mermail Engine. This search effect lets you fetch Thystvern or any Crystron Tuner. If you have Abyssteus onhand, you can immediately discard the searched Thystvern and use its search effect.

Graveyard Setup

Genex Undine
Genex Undine
WATER Aqua ★3
ATK 1200 / DEF 600
Selection Box Vol. 03 [UR]
Stardust Acceleration [UR]
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can send 1 WATER monster from your Deck to the Graveyard; add 1 "Genex Controller" from your Deck to your hand.

Get your plays going by summoning Genex Undine and putting the non-Tuner Crystrons in your graveyard. Crystron non-Tuners have effects that activate in the graveyard, which either give deck searching or field presence. More on the non-Tuners' effects will be explained in the section below, but generally you want to pitch Crystron Thystvern first.

Genex Controller
Genex Controller
DARK Machine ★3
ATK 1400 / DEF 1200
Stardust Acceleration [R]
As a master of all powers and elements, this is one of the few Genex monsters that can communicate with its companions.

Undine can also pitch Citadel Whale to start your SSA setup. Additionally she searches Genex Controller for free which is the only reason we run Genex Controller in this deck. Genex Controller an be used as Synchro material, or occasionally as discard fodder to Special Summon Sulfefnir if you don't have non-Tuner Crystrons on hand.

Non-Tuners

These monsters are combo pieces to lead into your SSA board setup or a Synchro Summon. All of them, except Sulfefnir, share the effect of Special Summoning a Crystron Tuner from your deck and a unique effect that activates while in the graveyard.

Crystron Thystvern
Crystron Thystvern
WATER Machine ★3
ATK 1500 / DEF 1500
Spirit of the Beast [SR]
You can target 1 face-up card you control; you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except Machine-Type Synchro Monsters, also destroy that card, and if you do, Special Summon 1 "Crystron" Tuner from your Deck. You can banish this card from your Graveyard; add 1 "Crystron" monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Crystron Thystvern". You can only use 1 "Crystron Thystvern" effect per turn, and only once that turn.

Crystron Thystvern should always be the monster you pitch to the graveyard whenever possible, and you should always banish it from the graveyard to search Sulfefnir.

Crystron Sulfefnir
Crystron Sulfefnir
WATER Machine ★5
ATK 2000 / DEF 1500
Cybernetic Rebellion [UR]
If this card is in your hand or Graveyard: You can discard 1 "Crystron" card, except "Crystron Sulfefnir"; Special Summon this card in Defense Position, then destroy 1 card you control. If this card on the field is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can Special Summon 1 "Crystron" monster from your Deck in Defense Position. You can only use each effect of "Crystron Sulfefnir" once per turn.

Sulfefnir is a combo extender generally played after you search him out with Thystvern. You will usually Special Summon him with his own effect to destroy himself and Special Summon another Crystron from your deck. Because Crystron monsters share the same effect on the field, the one you Special Summon with Sulfefnir will only depend on their graveyard effect or the level of Synchro you want to make. The discard cost when Special Summoning Sulfefnir can load Crystrons from your hand into the graveyard.

Crystron Smiger
Crystron Smiger
WATER Machine ★3
ATK 1000 / DEF 1800
Cybernetic Rebellion [SR]
You can target 1 face-up card you control; you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except Machine-Type Synchro Monsters, also, destroy that card, and if you do, Special Summon 1 "Crystron" Tuner from your Deck. You can banish this card from your Graveyard; add 1 "Crystron" Spell/Trap Card from your Deck to your hand. You can only use 1 "Crystron Smiger" effect per turn, and only once that turn.
Crystron Rosenix
Crystron Rosenix
WATER Machine ★4
ATK 1800 / DEF 1000
Cybernetic Rebellion [R]
You can target 1 face-up card you control; you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except Machine-Type Synchro Monsters, also destroy that card, and if you do, Special Summon 1 "Crystron" Tuner from your Deck. You can banish this card from your Graveyard; Special Summon 1 "Crystron Token" (Machine-Type/WATER/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0), but it cannot be Tributed. You can only use 1 "Crystron Rosenix" effect per turn, and only once that turn.

The rest of the Crystron non-Tuners are used for level and effect variety. Get them into the graveyard with Undine/Recycler, Sulfefnir's cost, or by using them to summon Citadel Whale or a Synchro monster. Crystron Smiger lets you search Crystron Impact, Crystron Prasiortle puts a Crystron on the field to extend combos, and Crystron Rosenix puts a token on the field to destroy with Crystron effects, use as Citadel Whale fodder, or synchro material.

Crystron Prasiortle
Crystron Prasiortle
WATER Machine ★2
ATK 500 / DEF 2000
Cybernetic Rebellion [N]
You can target 1 face-up card you control; you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except Machine-Type Synchro Monsters, also destroy that card, and if you do, Special Summon 1 "Crystron" Tuner from your Deck. You can banish this card from your Graveyard; Special Summon 1 "Crystron" monster from your hand. You can only use 1 "Crystron Prasirator" effect per turn, and only once that turn.

SSA combo

Citadel Whale
Citadel Whale
WATER Fish ★7
ATK 2350 / DEF 2150
Abyss Encounter [SR]
If this card is in your hand or GY: You can Tribute 2 WATER monsters; Special Summon this card. You can only use this effect of "Citadel Whale" once per turn. If this card is Special Summoned: You can Set 1 "Sea Stealth Attack" directly from your Deck. Once per turn, when your opponent activates a card or effect that targets 1 WATER monster you control (and no other cards) (Quick Effect): You can negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that card.

Special Summon Citadel Whale which searches Sea Stealth Attack to establishes a powerful board state. Citadel Whale is a decent beater which also provides your WATER monsters protection against single target effects such as Dark Magic Circle, Raigeki Break, and Karma Cut. SSA essentially gives non-targeting removal effects to all high-leveled WATER monsters, while also protecting itself and Umi. SSA can also be used to protect your weaker monsters by banishing them with its first effect.

Sea Stealth Attack
Sea Stealth Attack
Continuous Trap
Abyss Encounter [SR]
When this card is activated: You can activate 1 "Umi" from your hand or GY. While "Umi" is on the field, this face-up card gains these effects.
● Once per turn: You can banish 1 WATER monster you control until the End Phase; this turn, face-up Spells/Traps you control cannot be destroyed by your opponent's card effects (even if this card leaves the field).
● At the start of the Damage Step, if your WATER monster whose original Level is 5 or higher battles an opponent's monster: Destroy that opponent's monster.

Your bread-and-butter combo would go something like this: Normal Summon Undine and pitch Crystron Thystvern to the graveyard. Banish Thystvern to search Sulfefnir. Special Summon Sulfefnir which will target himself for destruction.

Special Summon Smiger from your deck with the destroyed Thystvern's effect and use Smiger's effect to destroy Umi and Special Summon a Tuner of your choice. (The destroyed Umi can be retrieved by SSA.)

At this point you have two choices: Ideally you have a Citadel Whale which you can Special Summon to search SSA. If not, use the monsters you have on the field to make a Synchro monster. In both cases banish Smiger in your graveyard to search Crystron Impact.

Tuners

Crystron Tuners are very self sufficient and unconventional. They Special Summon non-Tuners to pair with themselves, but do this during the opponent's turn which can be great disruption with their in-archetype Synchros.

Crystron Citree
Crystron Citree
WATER Machine ★2
ATK 500 / DEF 500
Cybernetic Rebellion [SR]
During your opponent's Main Phase or Battle Phase: You can target 1 non-Tuner monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it, but it has its effects negated (if any), and if you do, immediately after this effect resolves, Synchro Summon 1 Machine-Type Synchro Monster using only that monster and this card (this is a Quick Effect). These Synchro Materials are banished instead of being sent to the Graveyard. You can only use this effect of "Crystron Citree" once per turn.

Crystron Citree banishes the monsters she uses as Synchro materials which set you up to use Citree for Crystron Impact and the non-Tuner to be used with Crystron Rion. When using Citree's effect, you usually want to revive Sulfefnir to go into Samurai Destroyer or revive Undine/Recycler to go into Ametryx. This is because most non-Tuner Crystrons want to be banished by their own effect.

Crystron Quan
Crystron Quan
WATER Machine ★1
ATK 500 / DEF 500
Cybernetic Rebellion [N]
During your opponent's Main Phase or Battle Phase: You can Special Summon 1 non-Tuner from your hand, but its effects (if any) are negated, and if you do, immediately after this effect resolves, Synchro Summon 1 Machine-Type Synchro Monster, using that monster and this card only (this is a Quick Effect). You can only use this effect of "Crystron Quon" once per turn.

The real reason we run Quan is because all the other Crystron Tuners are limited. Quan is not really a bad card, just underwhelming compared to the other Tuners in his archetype. Pair it with Sulfefnir to make level-6s, or with Rosenix to make level-5s. Another powerful combo is using Crystron Entry to put 2 Quan onboard to make Quariongandrax.

Scrap Recycler

Scrap Recycler
Scrap Recycler
EARTH Machine ★3
ATK 900 / DEF 1200
Espa Roba [SR]
Special Pack Vol. 02 [SR]
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can send 1 Machine-Type monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. Once per turn: You can shuffle 2 Level 4 EARTH Machine-Type monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck; draw 1 card.

Scrap Recycler acts as

Crystron Impact

Crystron Impact
Crystron Impact
Normal Trap
Spirit of the Beast [SR]
Target 1 of your banished "Crystron" monsters; Special Summon it, and if you do, if your opponent controls any face-up monsters, change their DEF to 0. During either player's turn, except the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard, when a card or effect is activated that targets a "Crystron" monster you control: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; negate that effect.

Crystron Impact allows you to Special Summon 1 of your banished “Crystron” monsters and then it changes the DEF of all face-up monsters your opponent currently controls to 0, making Crystron Ametrix’s effect a lot more valuable. With this we finally have a good search target for Crystron Smiger.

Except for the turn Crystron Impact was sent to the Graveyard, you can banish it from your Graveyard to negate a card or effect that targets a “Crystron” monster you control. This provides good one-time protection giving Crystron Impact some extra utility.

Crystron Entry

Crystron Entry
Crystron Entry
Normal Trap
Cybernetic Rebellion [N]
Special Summon 2 "Crystron" Tuners (1 from your hand and 1 from your Graveyard). During either player's turn, except the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard: You can banish this card from your Graveyard, then target 1 "Crystron" monster you control; send 1 "Crystron" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard whose Level is different from that monster, and if you do, that monster becomes the Level of that monster sent to the Graveyard. You can only use this effect of "Crystron Entry" once per turn.

Crystron Entry's first effect is for enabling Synchro plays. Simply putting Crystron Tuners on the field is enough to setup a Synchro Summon with their inherent effects. This can also set you up to make Crystron Quariongandrax.

Another way to use the Special Summoned Crystrons is tributing them to Special Summon Citadel Whale, setting up your SSA combo.

The graveyard effect of Crystron Entry lets you adjust a Crystron monster's level for summoning a specific Synchro monster. More importantly this mills a Crystron to your graveyard, setting up Thystvern or Smiger's search effect.

Extra Decks

Trishula, Zero Dragon of the Ice Barrier
Trishula, Zero Dragon of the Ice Barrier
WATER Dragon ★11
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Stars of Synchro [UR]
1 Tuner + 2+ non-Tuner monsters
When this card is Synchro Summoned: You can banish up to 3 cards your opponent controls. If this Synchro Summoned card in its owner's control is destroyed by an opponent's card: You can Special Summon 1 "Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier" from your Extra Deck or GY, its ATK becomes 3300, then halve the ATK of any face-up monsters your opponent currently controls, also negate their effects. You can only use this effect of "Trishula, Zero Dragon of the Ice Barrier" once per turn.

Banish Removal effect with up to 3 cards your opponnet control while this card is Synchro Summoning. Trishula Zero Dragon's floating effect will helps you bring out Trishula Dragon either from your Extra Deck or Graveyard with 3300 ATK stats which can stop your opponent by OTK.

Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
WATER Dragon ★9
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Starter/Special Set Bundle Sale [UR]
1 Tuner + 2 or more non-Tuner monsters
When this card is Synchro Summoned: You can banish up to 1 card each from your opponent's hand, field, and Graveyard. (The card in the hand is chosen at random.)

The effect by banishing 1 card each from your opponent's hand, field, and Graveyard which can easily disrupt your opponent's combo. Can be revived back as Beater after Trishula Zero Dragon is getting destroyed by opponent's card.

Crystron Quariongandrax
Crystron Quariongandrax
WATER Machine ★9
ATK 3000 / DEF 3000
Cybernetic Rebellion [UR]
2 or more Tuners + 1 non-Tuner monster
If this card is Synchro Summoned: You can target monsters your opponent controls and/or in their Graveyard, up to the number of Synchro Materials used for the Synchro Summon of this card; banish them. If this Synchro Summoned card is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can target 1 banished monster, except this card; Special Summon it to your field.

Quariongandrax' summoning will usually be achieved with Crystron Entry. (i.e. Citadel Whale and 2 Quan) If Quariongandrax is Synchro Summoned, you can target monsters your opponent controls and/or in their Graveyard up to the number of Synchro Materials used for its Synchro Summon and straight out banish them.

You can get rid of all monsters on your opponent’s side of the field with a single card and then attack them directly for 3000 damage. The floating effect is also quite powerful; allowing you to revive any banished monster, even the ones you banished upon summoning Quariongandrax.

Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
WATER Sea Serpent ★6
ATK 2300 / DEF 1400
Aerial Assault [UR]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters
You can discard any number of cards to the GY, then target the same number of cards your opponent controls; return those cards to the hand. You can only use this effect of "Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier" once per turn.

Summon Brionac to remove the most amount of cards from the opponent's field.

Coral Dragon
Coral Dragon
WATER Dragon ★6
ATK 2400 / DEF 500
Chronicle of Glory [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Once per turn: You can discard 1 card, then target 1 card your opponent controls; destroy it. If this Synchro Summoned card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can draw 1 card. You can only use this effect of "Coral Dragon" once per turn.

Coral Dragon is a good general pick since it gives you a return on the resources you spent making it.

Powered Inzektron
Powered Inzektron
LIGHT Machine ★6
ATK 2500 / DEF 1600
Secrets of the Ancients [SR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
When this card is Synchro Summoned: This turn, this card cannot be destroyed by battle or by card effects, also you take no damage.

The best time to make Powered Inzektron is during the opponent's turn so you have an indestructible wall up during their Battle Phase. To do this summon Powered Inzektron with Citree's or any other Crystron Tuners' effect.

Crystron Ametrix
Crystron Ametrix
WATER Machine ★5
ATK 2500 / DEF 1500
Cybernetic Rebellion [R]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
If this card is Synchro Summoned: You can change all face-up Special Summoned monsters your opponent controls to Defense Position. If this Synchro Summoned card is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can target 1 "Crystron" monster in your Graveyard, except a Synchro Monster; Special Summon it.

Ametriz is the best monster to summon during the opponent's turn. Changing all their monsters to defense position at the start of the Battle Phase prevents them from attacking. This effect can also be used offensively to expose weak stats.

Other Useful Cards

Psychic Wheeleder

Psychic Wheeleder
Psychic Wheeleder
EARTH Psychic ★3
ATK 600 / DEF 0
Dimension of the Wizards [UR]
If you control a Level 3 monster other than "Psychic Wheeleder", you can Special Summon this card (from your hand) in Defense Position. You can only Special Summon "Psychic Wheeleder" once per turn this way. If this card is sent to the GY as Synchro Material: You can target 1 monster on the field with less ATK than the Synchro Monster that used this card as material; destroy it. You can only use this effect of "Psychic Wheeleder" once per turn.

Wheeleder is a good pair with any level-3 non-Tuner for quick level-6 Synchros. Particularly, you want to Special Summon Wheeleder after Normal Summoning Undine or Scrap Recycler. This way you get to extend the usefulness of your graveyard setter. The removal effect when using Wheeleder as Synchro material is also appreciated especially in control decks such as this.

Other Mermail Monsters

Mermail Abysslinde
Mermail Abysslinde
WATER Aqua ★4
ATK 1500 / DEF 1200
Cybernetic Rebellion [SR]
If this card on the field is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Mermail" monster from your Deck, except "Mermail Abysslinde". You can only use the effect of "Mermail Abysslinde" once per turn.

Special Summon Abysspike when Abysslinde is destroyed.

Abyss-sphere
Abyss-sphere
Continuous Trap
Cybernetic Rebellion [SR]
Special Summon 1 "Mermail" monster from your Deck. Its effects are negated. You cannot activate any Spell Cards. When this card leaves the field, destroy that monster. Destroy this card during your opponent's next End Phase after activation.

Abyss-sphere should always fetch Abysslinde. When Abysslinde is destroyed, her effect activates from the graveyard, bypassing Abyss-sphere's downside. Abyss-sphere even self-destructs the monster it summons, so you're guaranteed to get the search off before your next turn.

How do you search for Citadel whale in the mermail version?
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
There's no search in that deck. Genex Undine or Buzzsaw Shark targeting a level 7 Mermail are the two best ways to search Citadel Whale. Nimble Sunfish is ok.

I dont see anything good about this deck, i win most match again this deck with RDA deck or Aroma deck

Crystron has been Tier 2 on gamea for a while and was just bumped to Tier 1, matching duel links meta's ranking of it.

My question is why though? Almost nobody in KC GT or monthly ladder run these. They also run a high risk of timer loss

Its tier 1 because it does alot. I havent bothered using it and tbh if i go back on my old account i coild easily build this. Its one of those decks where you watch a video of it and learn from that.
