The main play of this deck is simply to summon Dark Magician and then upgrade into Dark Magician of Chaos. The skill and almost every other card in this deck is to support their summoning.

Three-Star Demotion Can be used by paying 3000 Life Points. Until the End Phase, reduce the Level of all monsters in your hand by 3. This skill can only be used once per turn. | Paradox Brothers |
You can make a deck that's more focused on trying to summon Dark Magician of Chaos (DMoC) depending on the number of copies that you have. Having fewer can still be good since you can use it together with Dark Magician, or even Dark Magician Girl. With only a few monsters on the deck, Legion the Fiend Jester will be used to get Dark Magician from your deck. Use Ancient Rules, or Paradox Brother's skill "Three Star Demotion" to get Dark Magician out to the field easily. If it gets destroyed, Birthright can revive him, or Dedication through Light and Darkness to protect him from being targeted by your opponent's card effects.
Enemy Controller alone can already be good for protection, but it also lets you make quick plays if you already have the other supporting spells.
Summon Legion the Fiend Jester, Enemy Controller to take control of your opponent's monster. This lets you pick up a Dark Magician from your deck. Use Ancient Rules to summon Dark Magician. If you have Dedication through Light and Darkness, then you can attack 3 times to potentially end the duel.
If you also have a DMoC in your hand, then you can go for a more safer play by summoning Legion, use Ancient Rules to get Dark Magician, then tribute summon into Dark Magician of Chaos through Legion's effect. Alternatively, you can use Enemy Controller to take control of your opponent's monster by tributing your monster other than Legion before tribute summoning into DMoC. This will let you bring back your Enemy Controller during your end phase, but you will not be able to set it right away. This is safer than the first option if you are unsure about your opponent's set spell/trap cards, since your opponent's monsters are tributed away, they won't return to your opponent.
Using a combination of Birthright and Dedication through Light and Darkness, you can essentially attack up to 3 times or more in a turn. This strategy allows you to attack your opponent unexpectedly, which is good to use once you know your opponent can't stop your attacks, and if you can end the duel if you do it. Use any monster that you have to attack and check for your opponent's backrow, if they don't have anything then activate Birthright and special summon your Dark Magician, then Dedication through Light and Darkness into DMoC for another attack.
Card | Explanation |
---|---|
Dark Magician Girl | Using only 1 DMoC you can bring 2/3 DMG with Sage's Stone to bring DM, then Dedication through Light and Darkness for a burst of attacks in a turn. |
Herald of Creation | If you need more lower level monsters, this helps with bringing your higher level monsters back from the graveyard. |
Mecha Phantom Beast Hamstrat | Helps swarm your field to make tribute summoning easier. |
Nobleman of Extermination | Destroys or forces your opponent's spell/trap so you can attack safely. |
Mausoleum of the Emperor | Lets you summon your higher levels easier, but your opponent will also be able to use this. |
Swing of Memories | Good for attacking again, or to simply bring out DMoC using the quick-play spell. |
Soul Resurrection | Revives your destroyed normal monster. |
Windstorm of Etaqua | Defensive trap card to defend against multiple monsters or against cards like Silent Magician LV8 / Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8. |
A Hero Emerges | With only a few monsters in the deck, you can set all your spell/trap cards, forcing your opponent into choosing your DM/DMoC after Legion is destroyed. |
Champion's Vigilance | Limited to 1 in the deck, but it can potentially protect your monster, or stop your opponent's plays. |
Common Charity | Speeds up your draws, or setup some plays if you use Escape from the Dark Dimension. |
Escape from the Dark Dimension | Brings back your DMoC if it leaves the field. This will also activate DMoC's effect to return a spell from your graveyard. |
