When this card is flipped face-up: Special Summon 2 "Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens" (Machine-Type/WIND/Level 3/ATK 0/DEF 0). This card's Level is increased by the total Levels of all "Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens" you control. While you control a Token, this card cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects. You can Tribute 1 Token, then target 1 "Mecha Phantom Beast" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target. You can only use this effect of "Mecha Phantom Beast Hamstrat" once per turn.

If this face down card gets attacked by a monster with 1600+ attack, will it be destroyed but still summon 2 tokens or does it stay alive, because the tokens spawn upon flipping & protect it?!

It will summon 2 tokens but still go to the graveyard, as Flip monsters activate their effects after they are attacked.

NPC attacks my face down Ham (atk higher than def) and Ham's effect does not activate; then, Ham is sent to the grave.

It was flipped up by the attack. Should'nt effect to summon tokens activate???

It should activate, unless there is another effect preventing Hamstrat's effect from activating.

For example, if Ancient Gear Beast attacked Hamstrat, its effect to Special Summon tokens would not activate.

This is because when it is flipped face-up due to battle, its effect to Special Summon tokens is determined after it is determined whether Hamstrat would be destroyed or not in the battle.

Basically, the result of the battle takes priority.

As a result, AG Beast's effect (which states "negate the effects of monsters destroyed by this card in battle") applies first before the Special Summoning of the tokens, thus the effect that Special Summon of the tokens are negated.

I don't know whether the above case is what happened to you or not since you didn't explain the whole thing, but basically, if you're very sure nothing should prevent the effect from activating, then it might be a bug.

Why does Hamstrat's effect sometimes just not activate? So frustrating.

You need to have Hamstrat set and no other monsters on the field to get the 2 tokens summoned.

The card states 'Special Summon 2 "Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens"', if it can not special summon 2, it wont.

Nope, unless your Hamstrat survives that hit upon flipping, else the token cannot protect it.

lets say you spawn 2 tokens but your Hamstrat is dead... next turn you can set facedown another hamstrat and with the surviving tokens from last turn it will be still protected... iam 90% sure even if facedown if i remeber correct

The hamstrat + the other 2 mechabeasts are made to swarm the field with tokens and to revive other mecha beasts from the gravejard.... with the scrapfactory its pretty much endless tokens and mechabeasts... totaly overpowered card... i have 4 by the way.... but only 1 treebornfrog :(
