Teva Lockdown: deck recipe

update 13/10/2018

Overview

A monster that, when Tribute Summoned successfully, prevents your opponent from declaring an attack during their next turn, one that, once per turn, can return that monster to the hand, one that Special Summons itself from the Graveyard during your Standby Phase, providing Tribute Material every turn and lastly, a card that prevents you from decking out.

This is the concept behind this deck. It’s definitely true that actually pulling off this combo is not easy, but, at the same time, getting out of the “Teva Lockdown” is pretty difficult, so, while I wouldn’t suggest using this deck for competitive purposes, you might want to give it a try.

How to Use

Main Combo

Swap Frog can be Special Summoned from the hand by discarding another WATER monster and, when Summoned, it allows you to send a Level 2 or lower Aqua-Type WATER monster from your Deck to the Graveyard; Swap Frog essentially can send Treeborn Frog to the Graveyard, where you want it to be, directly from the Deck without having to rely on your opponent destroying it.

In order to Special Summon Swap Frog you can discard Atlantean Marksman, triggering its effect and destroying a Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls, Treeborn Frog, Snowman Eater or even another Swap Frog.

During your Standby Phase, if Treeborn Frog is in your Graveyard and you control no Spell/Trap Cards, you can Special Summon it; after you Special Summon Treeborn Frog, you can use it to Tribute Summon Teva, triggering its effect and preventing your opponent from attacking during their next turn, and then you can return Teva to the hand with Swap Frog’s effect ready to Tribute Summon it again on the next turn.

When this Equip Spell is sent to the Graveyard, it is placed on top your Deck; the reason why you need to run this card is pretty simple: it prevents you from decking out before your opponent.

The easiest and the safest way to send Sword of Deep-Seated to the Graveyard is to discard it from your hand during the End Phase when you exceed the amount of cards you can keep; if you don’t have enough cards left in your Deck to reach 7 cards in the hand and thus be able to discard Sword of Deep-Seated, you can use Salvage to add 2 WATER monsters with 1500 or less ATK from the Graveyard to the hand.

Protection

Sphere Kuriboh is here to protect your monsters and your Life Points until you are able to pull off your combo, it can prevent an attack by switching an opponent’s monster into Defense Position and, since it stays in your hand, it doesn’t prevent you from activating Treeborn Frog’s effect.

This card can be very important while setting up, it can gain you a turn in some cases by destroying two monsters your opponent controls with its effect; with no other Trap Cards in the deck, Treacherous Trap Hole does not run the risk of becoming a dead card.

This Skill is used to add Teva from the Deck to the hand; you could combine this Skill with Genex Undine and Genex Controller.

Weaknesses

  • Setting up the main combo of the deck can take a few turns, which are usually enough for your opponent to finish you off; Sphere Kuriboh and Treacherous Trap Hole are here to partially fix this issue.

  • Treacherous Trap Hole and Spellbook of Fate can get the opponent out of the “Teva Lockdown” and, while the latter one is card that can be used only in a Spellbook deck, which is not exactly the most common, the former can pretty much be found in any deck right now; Atlantean Marksman can be used to preemptively destroy one of these cards before summoning Teva. Fortunately Paleozoic Canadia and Floodgate Trap Hole, other common Trap Cards, are both inefficient against this combo as Teva’s effect would activate anyway and, even if face-down, Swap Frog could still return it to the hand.

  • Lava Golem can get rid of Teva and Swap Frog at the same time; you should always leave only Swap Frog on the field by returning Teva to the hand during the same turn you Tribute Summoned it.

  • Another way for the opponent to get out of the “Teva Lockdown” would be to destroy Swap Frog, possibly with Donpa, Marksman Fur Hire, hoping that you can’t Special Summon another one on the next turn, but it’s safe to assume that, by the time you manage to pull of your combo, there is no space left on the field to Special Summon other “Fur Hire” monsters.

  • Wiz, Sage Fur Hire can negate Sword of Deep-Seated’s effect, leaving it in the Graveyard.

WTF this deck is actually impressive.
very controlling and nice.

If you Summon Swap Frog discarding Marksman, it's eff to destroy a Set S/T doesn't activate, since is not a cost for an effect, but a Summoning Condition.
