  • Buster Blader DNA Surgery Decklist, Notes and Matchup Information Updated

Overview

Even though Blue-Eyes and Koa'ki Meiru are not going to be nearly as relevant after the new Banlist comes into effect, this doesn’t mean Buster Blader will be less of a powerful deck in the upcoming meta. DNA Surgery and Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman are still an incredible combination of cards that can instantly shut down your opponent early on.

This card must be face-up on the field to activate and to resolve this effect. This card gains 500 ATK for each Dragon-Type monster on the field or in either player's Graveyard.

How to Use

Searching

Buster Whelp of the Destruction Swordsman is a Level 1 Tuner that, when Normal Summoned, can add a “Destruction Sword” card from your Deck to the hand; this card is used primarily to add the Quick-Play Spell Destruction Swordsman Fusion to your hand, but you could also search Buster Blader, the Destruction Swordmaster with its effect since, unlike the original Buster Blader, he is also part of the archetype.

You can Tribute Buster Whelp to Special Summon a Buster Blader from your hand or Graveyard; this effect can Special Summon Buster Blader, the Destruction Master from the Graveyard, since its name is “Buster Blader” while he’s on the field or Graveyard, but not from the hand.

If you control a Buster Blader, you can Special Summon Buster Whelp from the Graveyard by discarding a “Destruction Sword” card, giving you access to the Level 8 Synchros Stardust Dragon. Keep in mind that you can only use one of these last two effects per turn and only once during that turn, which means that you can’t Special Summon a Buster Blader or Buster Blader, the Destruction Master by Tributing Buster Whelp and then Special Summon the Level 1 Tuner from the Graveyard with its effect.

Emblem of Dragon Destroyer offers the possibility of adding a copy of Buster Blader to the hand from your Deck or your Graveyard; the second part prevents it from becoming a dead card once no more copies of the Level 7 Warrior-Type monster are present in your Deck.

Fusion Summoning

Destruction Swordsman Fusion is essentially a Quick-Play version of Polymerization that can only Special Summon Fusion Monsters that specifically list Buster Blader as Fusion Material, meaning Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman and Dark Paladin, but, unlike Polymerization, it allows you to use as Fusion Materials monsters from your hand or either side of the field.

It's pretty clear already that this is an amazing card: it can be searched by Buster Whelp and, if you combine it with DNA Surgery, you can use it to Special Summon Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman while also getting rid of a monster on your opponent's side of the field.

Destruction Swordsman Fusion doesn't target nor destroy, which means that Diamond Core of Koa'ki Meiru—or any other card or effect that would normally protect your opponent’s monsters—will be completely useless against it. Even if your opponent manages to negate Destruction Swordsman Fusion, its secondary effect allows you to add it back to your hand from the Graveyard by simply discarding a card.

Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman and DNA Surgery are a very powerful combination of cards that can essentially shut down a good portion of the current top-tier decks; Buster Blader locks all Dragon-Type monsters on the opponent’s side of the field into Defense Position and prevents them from activating their effects and this Continuous Trap can turn all monsters on the field into Dragon-Type monsters.

Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman gains 1000 ATK and DEF for each Dragon-Type monster the opponent controls or is in their Graveyard, it can’t attack directly, but its effect does give it piercing damage.

Dark Paladin allows you to negate the activation of Spell Cards by discarding a card; this effect is not limited to a “once per turn” use like Wiz, Sage Fur Hire or Silent Magician. You can Special Summon Dark Paladin using either Polymerization or Destruction Swordsman Fusion and King of the Swamp and Buster Blader as Fusion Materials.

Balance

Akiza Izinski
Akiza Izinski

This Skill will guarantee you an opening hand with at least a Monster, a Spell and a Trap Card. Balance will slightly increase your chances of starting with DNA Surgery.

Matchups

Dino Survival's End Matchups (Neutral)

DNA Surgery alone can prevent your opponent from activating Survivals End’s effect from the Graveyard, which would make Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman particularly difficult to handle. Unless your opponent is running backrow removal, they will have to rely on Enemy Controller to win.

Geartown Turbo Matchup (Slightly Unfavorable)

Uending Nightmare and Double Cyclone are natural answers to DNA Surgery and Ancient Gear Reactor Dragon, but, with a single Buster Whelp in your Graveyard, Dark Paladin is able to reach 3400 ATK, which would put it exactly above Reactor Dragon underAncient Gear Castle. Unless your opponent is running Paleozoic Canadia, they will not be able get over your monster.

Vampire Matchup (Neutral)

Vampire decks rely primarily on their Field Spell for removal and, in order to activate its effect, they need to either inflict damage to the opponent’s Life Points with Vampire Lord or, more commonly, activate Vampire Grace’s effect. The combination of Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman and DNA Surgery can almost entirely shut down Vampire decks, potentially preventing them from even using Vampire Familiar and Vampire Retainer’s effect.

Masked HERO Matchup

Masked HERO Anki can’t attack as long as Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman keeps it in Defense Position and Vision HERO Witch Raider can’t get rid of DNA Surgery with its effect either, but Destiny HERO - Decider is enough to prevent any of your high Level monsters from attacking the opponent and Cosmic Cyclone is a fairly common card in Masked HERO decks. Masked HEROes are fast and, thanks to Masked HERO Anki’s ability to search Mask Change from the Deck, they definitely have the upper hand, but I can see Buster Blader winning with the right combination of cards.

Silent Spellbook Matchup (Neutral)

Turning all monsters on the field into Dragon-Type monsters essentially means that a Spellbook player can’t activate some of their most important cards, making their deck significantly less threatening. Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman can freely destroy Silent Magician since its Silent Magician LV8 would just be turned into Defense Position after being Special Summoned, but it’s also true that a Turn 1 Silent Magician can prevent you from activating Destruction Swordsman Fusion and Spellbook of Fate can just banish your main monster.

Ok so if BBtDDSM negates the effects of effect monsters when face up, then why does amazon swords woman hurt him when attacked? shouldn't it's effect to cause damage to the opponent's LP's be negated?

Nothing broken here.

I wouldn't call tier 2 "broken". I'd call that "good". Tier 0 is broken, tier 1 is borderline broken.

There are more categories than "broken" and "garbage".

why use goddes with the third eye than the light-hex-sealed fusion?
<< Anonymous(joseph)
Anonymous Reply
Mostly the higher ATK for the times poking with it happens. (Though some builds run a Level 5 Synchro like Armades as well, giving it another use.)

Personally, I use Dark Hex, since potentially bluffing Slash Dragon is nice (not that most would even think of it, but eh) and the 1600 DEF has occasionally helped with bricks, especially against HERO. But it's personal preference ultimately.

Heh, I once face an AG player like that. Taunting me almost the entire match, including when I used my monster's effect to pull a card that could have been free with another skill....that is, until he realized he bricked, has no out to my field, and surrenders.

Is this deck still worth investing in ? i love the cards like buster blader and dark paladin a lot from the anime they look badass

I'm wonder what retards prefer to play this deck. One autist placed my monsters in a defensive position and just cowardly waited till I deck out
<< Anonymous

The fact that you said "autist" means that you're mad over a decent deck.
<< Anonymous

It was you? Deck is decent, but player who played in this way is definitely autist.

That sounds totally like a different deck, which cards did he mostly use?

Depends on the matchup, and what the Buster Blader player has access to at the time. If they only have the resources for a single fusion, they're not going to risk running into a Widespread Ruin or something, nor should they.

And yes, I have won with Buster Blader this way before. Not often, but it comes up. And no, I don't think it's cheap. It's rarely worth doing.
JJ
All decks require skill, especially if you know they can flip your fusion monster with plenty of cards to remove DNA surgery with an effect monster. Recycling your sword can make a big difference and can get you a win.

Whoever says this game is “bad” or does not require any skill... well, that guy must be related to the ones who post spam in this board. This game is very, very FAR from being dead and I bet that’s what makes them furious lol.

As a matter of fact, my friend.
People reach King of Games even with Vylons, there's a video I saw in which the dude reaches kog at the start of the season with Blue-Eyes + Kaiba instead of Arkana. There are guys who reach kog with Destiny Board. TOP Global player Tsun Tsun won the KC CUP with Amazoness. The problem is YOU, not the game. Sorry.

I've defeated this deck like 3 times with my Blue-Eyes deck. I don't think it's broken or annoying at all since it's really bricky. However, if the guy has 3 Sphere Kuribohs you better start praying because the guy will use Ultimate Gamble while Ultra Instinct is being played in the background.

This game is generous? Poor soul, you clearly have not played generous games. No trade, no craft..
New decks come out and old ones become weak or no longer relevant. This game screams buy new cards or lose.

The guys above is pretty much another deceptive idiot. Buy new cards or lose? what kind of misleading statement is that?, people made it to King of Games very early with Amazoness and Fur Hire and the TOP GLOBAL player at this last KC CUP played Vampires and Amazoness. Yeah "buy new cards" what an foolish idiot you are lol

Yes, there is a random element to what you get. But you're given a crapload of chances at that random element if you don't blow your load on every new shiny that pops up. That is pretty rare for a game like this.
