Draw Sense: Low Level Can be used each time your Life Points decrease by 1000. In the Draw Phase, instead of conducting a normal draw, draw a random monster of Level 4 or lower. | ![]() Common |
![]() Buster Whelp of the Destruction Swordsman | LIGHT Dragon ★1 ATK 400 / DEF 300 |
Power of Bravery [UR] | |
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 "Destruction Sword" card from your Deck to your hand, except "Buster Whelp of the Destruction Swordsman". You can only use 1 of the following effects of "Buster Whelp of the Destruction Swordsman" per turn, and only once that turn.● You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 "Buster Blader" from your hand or Graveyard.● If this card is in your Graveyard and you control "Buster Blader": You can discard 1 "Destruction Sword" card; Special Summon this card. |
Destruction Sword Memories is almost always a safe choice to search for, especially if you get turn 1. If you have DNA Surgery, you can search for Destruction Swordsman Fusion instead, but this can be risky if you don't have any Buster Blader in hand and your opponent starts their turn with a Mystical Space Typhoon or Cosmic Cyclone.
With a Buster Blader on the field, you can then synchro into Buster Dragon so you can revive a Buster Blader back to the field. If you haven't used Whelp's revive effect, you can bring itself back so you can synchro into another level 8 like Scrap Dragon or Cyber Slash Harpie Lady.
Keep in mind that you can only choose to either special summon itself or Buster Blader once per turn, so you can't tribute itself to special summon a Buster Blader and then revive itself on the same turn.
![]() Buster Blader, the Destruction Swordmaster | EARTH Warrior ★7 ATK 2600 / DEF 2300 |
Generation Next [SR] | |
This card's name becomes "Buster Blader" while it is on the field or in the Graveyard. If a monster(s) your opponent controls is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 of those destroyed monsters; equip it to this card. Once per turn: You can send 1 Monster Card you control that is equipped to this card to the Graveyard; destroy all monsters your opponent controls with the same Type as that monster sent to the Graveyard. |
Searchable with Whelp because of its name. The effect to attach a monster destroyed by battle can be situationally useful to prevent potential combos, and the additional effect can be nice to have, but performing this combo is pretty rare since the main deck Buster Bladers are often used for the fusion and rarely stay on the field for long.
![]() Buster Blader | EARTH Warrior ★7 ATK 2600 / DEF 2300 |
Crimson Kingdom [R] | |
This card gains 500 ATK for each Dragon-Type monster your opponent controls or is in their Graveyard. |
Generally we prefer running the original Buster Blader over his retrained version due to the simple fact his name is already Buster Blader while in the hand. This means you can use him in your hand as fusion material with Destruction Swordsman Fusion. He is also searchable with his own exclusive search card.
![]() Destruction Sword Memories | Normal Trap |
Fantastic Arc [UR] | |
Discard 1 "Destruction Sword" card; Special Summon 1 "Buster Blader" monster from the Deck. You can banish this card from your Graveyard; Fusion Summon 1 "Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman" from your Extra Deck, by banishing Fusion Materials listed on it from your Graveyard. |
High priority card to search for with Whelp to special summon a Buster Blader from the deck. Together with Whelp, you can synchro them away to become Buster Dragon and use Memories in the grave to fusion summon Dragon Destroyer Swordsman.
You can easily discard this card if you have it in your hand with Whelp's graveyard effect, Destruction Swordsman Fusion, another copy of itself, or use your own Mystical Space Typhoon on it.
![]() Destruction Swordsman Fusion | Quick Spell |
Power of Bravery [SR] | |
Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster that lists "Buster Blader" as Material from your Extra Deck, using monsters from your hand or either side of the field as Fusion Materials. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can send 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard; add this card to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Destruction Swordsman Fusion" once per turn. |
It's a very flexible card since it's a quick-play and lets you use monsters from field and hand, but what makes this card even more unique is that it allows you to use your opponent's monster as part of the fusion material. The fact that it's searchable with Whelp and has a self-recovery effect is the cherry on top.
However, this can only be used to fusion summon Dragon Destroyer Swordsman or Dark Paladin(which isn't used since there is no Dark Magician in the deck). Against a Dragon deck, you can very easily fuse using their monster. But against any other deck, you will have to rely on either DNA Surgery or Buster Dragon to turn them into a Dragon monster if you want to use this with your opponent's monster.
![]() Karma of the Destruction Swordsman | Quick Spell |
Crimson Kingdom [N] | |
Target up to 3 monsters of the same Type in your opponent's Graveyard; banish them, and if you do, 1 "Buster Blader" monster or 1 "Destruction Sword" monster you control gains 500 ATK and DEF for each of those banished monsters, until the end of this turn. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can discard 1 "Destruction Sword" card; add this card to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Karma of the Destruction Swordsman" once per turn. |
Most archetypes run a single Type of monster so Karma of the Destruction Swordsman can readily be used for graveyard disruption. Even if you're not facing this type of deck, you can still use this card as cost for Buster Whelp's revival.
![]() Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman | LIGHT Warrior ★8 ATK 2800 / DEF |
Generation Next [UR] | |
1 "Buster Blader" + 1 Dragon-Type monster Must be Fusion Summoned and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. This card cannot attack directly. This card gains 1000 ATK and DEF for each Dragon-Type monster your opponent controls or is in their Graveyard. Change all Dragon-Type monsters your opponent controls to Defense Position, also Dragon-Type monsters in your opponent's possession cannot activate their effects. If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent. |
It's a very powerful anti-Dragon card since it gets a high ATK boost and 2 continuous effects that negates and forces them to defense position as long as this is on the field. Its weakness is that it can't attack directly and doesn't come with any form of protection from spells/traps. Against a Dragon deck, simply bringing this out will give you a massive advantage.
Against non-Dragon decks, you'll have to rely on the support cards like Buster Dragon or DNA Surgery. Doing this will allow you to go against any deck, regardless of their monster type. And since Dragon Destroyer comes with a high ATK increase effect, there's a pretty good chance you'll be able to get over just about any monster.
![]() Buster Dragon | DARK Dragon ★8 ATK 1200 / DEF 2800 |
Fantastic Arc [SR] | |
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters All monsters your opponent controls become Dragon-Type. Once per turn, if you do not control a "Buster Blader" monster: You can target 1 "Buster Blader" in your Graveyard; Special Summon it. Once per turn, during your opponent's turn: You can target 1 "Buster Blader" monster you control; equip it with 1 "Destruction Sword" monster from your Graveyard (this is a Quick Effect). |
You can synchro into this using Whelp and Buster Blader on the field. Both Whelp and Buster Blader are somewhat easily special summonable since Whelp can search for Destruction Sword Memories and also revive itself.
Buster Dragon is a useful support, but not exactly core since DNA Surgery exists. Having this just makes the core combo much faster instead of relying on drawing DNA Surgery.
Once Buster Dragon is out, you can revive a Buster Blader in the grave. If you haven't used Whelp's self revive effect, you can bring Whelp back to synchro into another level 8 if you need it.
Buster Dragon's last effect is only useful if you decide to bring cards like Robot Buster Destruction Sword or Wizard Buster Destruction Sword, which are situationally useful, but can increase the odds of not getting a good starting hand.
![]() Book of Moon | Quick Spell |
Chaotic Soldiers [UR] Selection Box Vol.04 [UR]
Target 1 face-up monster on the field; change that target to face-down Defense Position. |
A very powerful and versatile card that can be used to disrupt enemy plays or to dodge dangerous cards like Karma Cut, Floodgate Trap Hole, or even Drowning Mirror Force, by targeting your own monster.
![]() Cosmic Cyclone | Quick Spell |
Galactic Origin [UR] Selection Box Vol. 01 Mini [UR]
Pay 1000 LP, then target 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field; banish it. |
Buster Blader fusion can deal with enemy monsters, so bring cards like this or Mystical Space Typhoon to deal with enemy backrow so you can prevent traps or to simply ensure that you can summon your monsters safely.
Cosmic Cyclone may be preferred compared to MST because you can use the skill to fetch Whelp after a single use of Cosmic.
![]() Drowning Mirror Force | Normal Trap |
Gaia Genesis [UR] Selection Box Vol. 02 [UR] Special Set Bundle Sale [UR]
When an opponent's monster declares a direct attack: Shuffle all Attack Position monsters your opponent controls into the Deck. |
When an opponent’s monster is declaring a direct attack, Drowning Mirror Force can shuffle all Attack Position on their side of the field into the deck which will disrupt your opponent and stop OTK for next turn play.
![]() Cyber Slash Harpie Lady | WIND Winged Beast ★8 ATK 2600 / DEF 1400 |
Sign of Harpies [UR] | |
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters For this card's Synchro Summon, you can treat 1 "Harpie" monster you control as a Tuner. This card's name becomes "Harpie Lady" while on the field or in the GY. When a Spell/Trap Card or effect is activated (except during the Damage Step) (Quick Effect): You can target 1 monster your opponent controls or 1 "Harpie" monster you control; return it to the hand. You can only use this effect of "Cyber Slash Harpie Lady" once per turn. |
Strong monster removal option and useful to disrupt your opponent's turn as well.
![]() Scrap Dragon | EARTH Dragon ★8 ATK 2800 / DEF 2000 |
Valhalla Calling [UR] | |
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters Once per turn: You can target 1 card you control and 1 card your opponent controls; destroy them. When this card is destroyed by your opponent's card (either by battle or by card effect) and sent to the Graveyard: Target 1 non-Synchro "Scrap" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target. |
Scrap Dragon is a good beater with a 1-for-1 targeting removal effect.
![]() Stardust Dragon | WIND Dragon ★8 ATK 2500 / DEF 2000 |
Selection Box Vol. 03 [UR] Stardust Acceleration [UR] Stardust Nexus [UR] (Alternate Art)
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters During either player's turn, when a card or effect is activated that would destroy a card(s) on the field: You can Tribute this card; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it. During the End Phase, if this effect was activated this turn (and was not negated): You can Special Summon this card from your Graveyard. |
Stardust Dragon can negate enemy effects that would destroy a card, targeting or not. This makes it an effective counter against the most common form of removal. This effect is practically activated for free, only temporarily tributing Stardust Dragon.
![]() Mana Dragon Zirnitron | DARK Dragon ★6 ATK 2200 / DEF 1200 |
Tornado of Phantoms [SR]
If a Spell/Trap you control leaves the field because of an opponent's effect, and is now in the GY or banished (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card from the GY (if it was there when that Spell/Trap left) or hand (even if not), then you can Set 1 Spell/Trap that is banished or in your GY to your Spell & Trap Zone. You can only use this effect of “Mana Dragon Zirnitron” once per turn. If Summoned this way, banish this card when it leaves the field. |
Its main use is to simply "protect" your DNA Surgery since it becomes a high priority threat to your opponent once you have Dragon Destroyer Swordsman on the field, which makes it highly likely that they will use some kind of spell/trap removal to get it off your field.
Unfortunately, this just sets the card back instead of facing it up again right away.
![]() Battlin Boxer Veil | FIRE Warrior ★4 ATK 0 / DEF 1800 |
Rage of Volcano [R] | |
When you take battle damage: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, gain Life Points equal to the damage you took. |
Special Summon Battlin Boxer Veil after taking a big hit. Veil gives you back the LP you lost and will be Special Summoned to catch the next attack.
![]() DNA Surgery | Continuous Trap |
Card Trader [SR] | |
Activate this card by declaring 1 Monster Type. All face-up monsters on the field become that Type. |
Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman and DNA Surgery is a powerful combo. Strong enough to shutdown a good portion of current top-tier decks.
DNA Surgery turning all monsters into Dragons means they are now affected by Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroying Swordsman's debilitating effect. This is especially potent against decks that heavily rely on monster effects.
Like most Fusion Decks, this one is very combo heavy. And you'll be highly vulnerable to OTKs before you get to your final board state of Dragon Destroyer Swordsman plus DNA Surgery. These defensive techs are here to protect you while you build your board.
![]() Sphere Kuriboh | DARK Fiend ★1 ATK 300 / DEF 200 |
The Ultimate Rising [UR] Selection Box Vol. 01 [UR]
When an opponent's monster declares an attack: You can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard; change the attacking monster to Defense Position. When you Ritual Summon a monster, you can banish this card from your Graveyard as 1 of the monsters required for the Ritual Summon. |
Sphere Kuriboh changes the opponent's monster to defense position so that the attack won't go through. Dragon Destroying Swordsman can inflict piercing damage so you can deal a ton of damage on your next turn.
![]() Wizard Buster Destruction Sword | DARK Spellcaster ★3 ATK 1200 / DEF 900 |
Crimson Kingdom [R] | |
You can target 1 "Buster Blader" you control; equip this monster from your hand or your side of the field to that target. While this card is equipped to a monster, monsters in your opponent's Graveyard cannot activate their effects. You can send this Equip Card to the Graveyard, then target 1 "Destruction Sword" monster in your Graveyard, except "Wizard Buster Destruction Sword"; add it to your hand. |
Preventing your opponent from using graveyard effects is a great way to disrupt graveyard setups and floating effects. The second effect lets you retrieve Buster Whelp for more searching.
![]() Vermillion Dragon Mech | FIRE Machine ★9 ATK 2700 / DEF 1800 |
Blazing Rose [UR] | |
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters Once per turn: You can banish 1 Tuner from your hand, field, or Graveyard, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it. If this Synchro Summoned card is destroyed by card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 of your banished Tuners; add it to your hand. |
A level 9 backrow/monster removal synchro monster by banishing tuner monster from your hand or graveyard.
![]() Stardust Spark Dragon | LIGHT Dragon ★8 ATK 2500 / DEF 2000 |
Future Horizon [UR] | |
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can target 1 face-up card you control; once during this turn, it cannot be destroyed by battle or by card effects. |
Gives a one-time protection to any card you control. Particularly, you want to protect DNA surgery or Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroying Swordsman because this powerful combo has no inherent protection. Keep in mind this effect can be used during both players' turns.
![]() Ally of Justice Catastor | DARK Machine ★5 ATK 2200 / DEF 1200 |
The King of Vermillion [SR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters At the start of the Damage Step, if this card battles a non-DARK monster: Destroy that monster. |
In case you have Boxer Veil on the field and can normal summon a Whelp. Catastor can be a decent wall to prevent attacks since its effect can deal with most monsters.
![]() Dark Paladin | DARK Spellcaster ★8 ATK 2900 / DEF 2400 |
Crimson Kingdom [UR] | |
"Dark Magician" + "Buster Blader" Must be Fusion Summoned and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. During either player's turn, when a Spell Card is activated: You can discard 1 card; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it. This card must be face-up on the field to activate and to resolve this effect. This card gains 500 ATK for each Dragon-Type monster on the field or in either player's Graveyard. |
![]() Forbidden Lance | Quick Spell |
Valhalla Calling [UR] Selection Box Vol. 02 Mini [UR]
Target 1 face-up monster on the field; until the end of this turn, that target loses 800 ATK, but is unaffected by the effects of other Spell/Trap Cards. |
A good monster to summon incase you get matched with a Dark Magician Deck. Not only do you get to take the opponent's Dark Magician as fusion material, Dark Paladin is also a great counter to the deck preventing them from using key Spells.
Forbidden Lance can be used to ensure one of your monsters is able to attack through a Drowning Mirror Force, it can prevent it from being destroyed by Treacherous Trap Hole, or from being flipped face-down by Floodgate or Canadia.
