How to Play

Thunder Dragons

The Thunder Dragons all have a unique effect that activates from the hand, an a second unique effect that activates when they are sent from field to graveyard or banished from anywhere. The second effect will usually be triggered by outside support such as Levianeer or Dragonduo.

Thunder Dragonduo
Thunder Dragonduo
DARK Thunder ★8
ATK 2800 / DEF 0
Future Horizon [SR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your GY. Once per turn, if a monster effect is activated in the hand: This card gains 300 ATK until the end of this turn. When this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can banish 1 card from your GY; add 1 Thunder monster from your Deck to your hand. Once per turn, during your opponent's End Phase: You can target 1 of your banished cards; place it on the top or bottom of your Deck.

Thunder Dragonduo has a similar but less costly summoning condition than Levianeer. Its high base ATK contributes to this deck's power output, while its effects are good compliments the Thunder Dragon playstyle.

The ATK boost effect increases Dragonduo's damage output and can let it attack over stronger boss monsters.

The search effect is good for resource gain. And the activation cost triggers a Thunder Dragon's effect, banishing something like Dragondark further increases your potential resource gain.

Lastly, Dragonduo has a slow banish recovery effect which can be used to recycle your Thunder Dragons. This is useful since we don't actually run that many Thunder Dragons relative to our deck size.

Thunder Dragonhawk
Thunder Dragonhawk
LIGHT Thunder ★6
ATK 1800 / DEF 2200
Dark Dimension [UR]
You can discard this card; Special Summon 1 of your “Thunder Dragon” monsters that is banished or in your GY, except “Thunder Dragonhawk”. If this card is banished, or sent from the field to the GY: You can shuffle any number of cards from your hand into the Deck, then draw the same number of cards. You can only use 1 “Thunder Dragonhawk” effect per turn, and only once that turn.

The first effect lets you revive any Thunder Dragon from the graveyard or banish zone. This can be used to bring back a Dragonduo that was previously summoned with its own effect.

The second effect is used to return cards like Chaos Betrayer, Bacon Saver, and Glow-Up Bulb back to the deck because these are cards you want to mill.

Thunder Dragondark
Thunder Dragondark
DARK Thunder ★5
ATK 1600 / DEF 1500
Mokuba Kaiba (DSOD) [UR]
(Quick Effect): You can discard this card; add 1 "Thunder Dragondark" from your Deck to your hand. If this card is banished, or sent from the field to the GY: You can add 1 "Thunder Dragon" card from your Deck to your hand, except "Thunder Dragondark". You can only use 1 "Thunder Dragondark" effect per turn, and only once that turn.

We only run one copy of Dragondark to make room for 2 Levianeer. This is also a way to balance the amount of LIGHT and DARK monsters in the deck. This essentially renders Dragondak's first effect useless.

However, its second effect is still a good enough reason to run it. This lets you search a Thunder Dragon as part of a combo that banishes Dragondark.

Thunder Dragonroar
Thunder Dragonroar
DARK Thunder ★6
ATK 2400 / DEF 0
Mokuba Kaiba (DSOD) [SR]
You can discard this card; add to your hand, 1 of your "Thunder Dragon" cards that is banished or in your GY, except "Thunder Dragonroar". If this card is banished, or sent from the field to the GY: You can Special Summon 1 "Thunder Dragon" monster from your Deck in Defense Position, but return it to the hand during the End Phase. You can only use 1 "Thunder Dragonroar" effect per turn, and only once that turn.

The first effect lets you recover Thunder Dragons from the graveyard or banish zone. You can use this recover a Thunder Dragon and immediately activate the recovered Thunder Dragon's effect. Retrieve Dragonhawk and discard it to revive Dragonroar. You can also use this to recycle your one copy of Dragonduo.

The search effect might not be as good as Dragondark because it puts the Thunder Dragon on the field, so you can't use their discard effect. One way this Special Summoning can be used to your advantage is by pairing the Thunder Dragon with a revived Glow-Up Bulb for a Synchro Summon. This triggers the effect of the Thunder Dragon used as synchro material.

Chaos Betrayer

Chaos Betrayer
Chaos Betrayer
DARK Fiend ★6
ATK 2000 / DEF 2000
D.D. Castle: Emergence Event [SR]
If this card is in your GY: You can banish 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your GY, except "Chaos Betrayer"; Special Summon this card is Defense Position, but banish it when it leaves the field. If this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 card in your opponent's GY; banish it. You can only use each effect of "Chaos Betrayer" once per turn.

Put Chaos Betrayer in your graveyard with Cynet Mining, then revive it by banishing Thunder Dragon monsters. This will trigger the Thunder Dragons' effects while you also get to disrupt your opponent's graveyard with Chaos Betrayer's effect.

Chaos Betrayer is always revived in the defense position with his effect so you can't really use him to push damage. Instead, use him as Xyz Material material alongside other Level 6 Thunder Dragons.

Batteryman Solar

Batteryman Solar
Batteryman Solar
LIGHT Thunder ★4
ATK 1500 / DEF 1500
Burning Nova [R]
Selection Box Vol. 02 [R]
If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can send 1 Thunder monster from your Deck to the GY. If a Thunder monster(s) is Normal or Special Summoned while this monster is on the field: Special Summon 1 "Batteryman Token" (Thunder/LIGHT/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0). You can target 1 "Batteryman" Effect Monster you control or in your GY; this card's name becomes that monster's until the End Phase. You can only use each effect of "Solar Batteryman" once per turn.

With this on the field, activating any of the Thunder Dragon monsters from the hand will special summon a token on the field. The tokens can be used for blocking attacks or to be tributed for any of the Thunder Dragons or Odd-Eyes Advance Dragon.

Aloof Lupine

Aloof Lupine
Aloof Lupine
DARK Beast ★4
ATK 1700 / DEF 300
Blazing Rose [N]
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can banish 1 monster from your hand; banish 1 monster from your Deck with the same Type as that monster. If this card is destroyed by battle, or if this card in its owner’s possession is destroyed by an opponent’s card effect: You can target 1 of your banished monsters; add it to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Aloof Lupine" once per turn.

Aloof Lupine is a popular tech choice in Thunder Dragon decks because of its ability to banish a monster from the hand to search for a monster with the same type from the deck. This can be useful in setting up plays and extending combos, especially since Thunder Dragons have a variety of monster types. Additionally, its ability to recover a banished monster can be helpful in recovering resources, especially in longer games.

Thunder Dragon's Hundred Thunders

Thunder Dragons Hundred Thunders
Thunder Dragons Hundred Thunders
Normal Trap
Mokuba Kaiba (DSOD) [UR]
Target 1 Thunder monster in your GY; Special Summon it, then you can Special Summon as many monsters with that same name as possible from your GY. The monster(s) Special Summoned by this effect are banished when they leave the field, also while they are face-up on the field, you cannot Special Summon monsters, except Thunder monsters. You can only activate 1 "Thunder Dragons' Hundred Thunders" per turn.

Hundred Thunders can prevent OTKs by summoning a bunch of monsters to your field to catch enemy attacks. Banishing the Thunder Dragons when they leave the field is actually beneficial because this will trigger their effects.

Techs

Dimensional Fissure
Dimensional Fissure
Continuous Spell
Raiders Requiem [UR]
Selection Box Vol.04 Mini [UR]
Any monster sent to the Graveyard is banished instead.

Dimensional Fissure can help shut down certain decks or strategies that rely heavily on the graveyard, such as Shiranui or Crystron. By preventing your opponent from accessing their graveyard, you limit their ability to make certain plays or use certain effects. Additionally, it can also trigger Thunder Dragon's banished effect for combo play.

Volcanic Wall
Volcanic Wall
Continuous Spell
Axel Brodie at Lvl 45 [UR]
Once per turn, you can send 3 cards from the top of your deck to the Graveyard, and if you do, inflict 250 damages, to your opponent for each Pyro-Type monster sent to the Graveyard by this effect. You cannot declare an attack during the turn you activate this effect.

Volcanic Wall's effect to send cards to the graveyard can be useful in a Thunder Dragon deck, as it can help you to activate the effects of Thunder Dragon monsters.

Ice Dragons Prison
Ice Dragons Prison
Normal Trap
Selection Box Vol.06 [UR]
Target 1 monster in your opponent's GY; Special Summon it to your field, but its effects are negated, then, you can banish 1 monster from both players' fields that have the same Type as each other. You can only activate 1 "Ice Dragon's Prison" per turn.

Ice Dragon's Prison can be a useful tech choice in the Thunder Dragon deck to remove threats from your opponent's field and add a monster to your side. It also has the added benefit of banishing a monster from both players' fields if they have the same type, which can help clear the board and set up future plays. However, it can be situational and may not always be the most effective option.

Bottomless Trap Hole
Bottomless Trap Hole
Normal Trap
Future Circuit [UR]
Selection Box Vol.05 [UR]
When your opponent Summons a monster(s) with 1500 or more ATK: Destroy that monster(s) with 1500 or more ATK, and if you do, banish it.

Easily to get rid of Big Beater monsters while they are being summoned, also banish instead of putting them to the Graveyard which will prevent those Monsters from recycling and triggering their floating or graveyard effect.

Paleozoic Canadia
Paleozoic Canadia
Normal Trap
Valiant Souls [UR]
Special Set Bundle Sale [UR]
Target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; change it to face-down Defense Position. Once per Chain, when a Trap Card is activated while this card is in your Graveyard: Special Summon this card as a Normal Monster (Aqua-Type/WATER/Level 2/ATK 1200/DEF 0). (This card is NOT treated as a Trap Card.) If Summoned this way, this card is unaffected by monster effects, also banish it when it leaves the field.

Paleozoic Canadia is a versatile card that can help disrupt your opponent's plays by flipping their monsters face-down. It can also be brought back from the graveyard as a monster to provide Additional Defense, Tribute Fodder for Thunder Dragons, or be used for LINK Summoning.

Extra Decks

Constellar Ptolemy M7
Constellar Ptolemy M7
LIGHT Machine ★6
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Infinite Ray [UR]
2 Level 6 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a "Constellar" Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material, other than "Constellar Ptolemy M7". (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If Summoned this way, the following effect cannot be activated this turn. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 monster on the field or in either player's Graveyard; return that target to the hand.

Ptolemy M7's provides non-destruction removal which also doesn't send the target to the graveyard, bypassing most floating. Monsters that do not end up in the graveyard are also harder to recycle, especially if it was an Extra Deck monster.

You can also select a monster in your own graveyard and recover it.

Photon Strike Bounzer
Photon Strike Bounzer
LIGHT Warrior ★6
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Photons of Galaxy [SR]
2 Level 6 monsters
Once per turn, during either player's turn, when a monster effect is activated on your opponent's side of the field: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the effect, and if you do, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent.

Negating enemy monster effects is great for disrupting their plays, especially since most combos involve the use of a monster effect. However, the negation effect does not destroy the negated monster, so this can be dangerous against powerful monsters like Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon.

Topologic Bomber Dragon
Topologic Bomber Dragon
DARK Cyberse
ATK 3000 / DEF 4
Starter/Special Set Bundle Sale [UR]
2+ Effect Monsters
If another monster is Special Summoned to a zone a Link Monster points to, while this monster is on the field: Destroy all monsters in the Main Monster Zones, also your other monsters cannot attack for the rest of this turn. After damage calculation, if this card attacked an opponent's monster: Inflict damage to your opponent equal to half that monster's original ATK.

Topologic Bomber Dragon's effect allows you to destroy all other monsters on the field when a monster is Special Summoned to a zone it points to. This effect can be triggered by both you and your opponent, which means that you can use it to clear your opponent's board, or to wipe out your own Thunder Dragon monsters and trigger their effects.

In addition to its powerful effect, Topologic Bomber Dragon has solid stats, with 3000 ATK and 1800 DEF. This makes it a formidable beater that can help you to put pressure on your opponent and close out the game.

Overall, Topologic Bomber Dragon can be a strong addition to Thunder Dragon decks in Duel Links, especially if you're looking for a powerful boss monster to help you control the board and disrupt your opponent's plays.

Knightmare Unicorn
Knightmare Unicorn
DARK Fiend
ATK 2200 / DEF 3
Future Circuit [UR]
2+ monsters with different names
If this card is Link Summoned: You can discard 1 card, then target 1 card on the field; shuffle it into the Deck, then, if this card was co-linked when this effect was activated, you can draw 1 card. You can only use this effect of "Knightmare Unicorn" once per turn. While any co-linked "Knightmare" monsters are on the field, for your normal draw in your Draw Phase, draw 1 card for each different card name among those co-linked "Knightmare" monsters, instead of drawing just 1 card.

This Link 3 Knightmare Monster not only allows you to shuffle 1 card on either player's board back into Deck (this effect will prevent some card effect trigger action for Graveyard/Floating effect) when it is Link Summoned. Unicorn's co-linked effect will allow you to have 1 Card Draw.

Decode Talker
Decode Talker
DARK Cyberse
ATK 2300 / DEF 3
Link Revolution [UR]
2+ Effect Monsters
Gains 500 ATK for each monster it points to. When your opponent activates a card or effect that targets a card(s) you control (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 monster this card points to; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that card.

Decode Talker can be a good card to include in Thunder Dragon decks in Duel Links. Its effect allows it to gain 500 ATK for each monster it points to, which can make it a formidable beater if you position it correctly on the field.

In addition, Decode Talker has a useful protection effect that can help you to defend your other cards on the field. When your opponent activates a card or effect that targets a card you control, you can Tribute 1 monster that Decode Talker points to in order to negate the activation and destroy the card. This can help you to disrupt your opponent's plays and protect your own cards from destruction.

Knightmare Phoenix
Knightmare Phoenix
FIRE Fiend
ATK 1900 / DEF 2
Future Circuit [SR]
2 monsters with different names
If this card is Link Summoned: You can discard 1 card, then target 1 Spell/Trap your opponent controls; destroy it, then, if this card was co-linked when this effect was activated, you can draw 1 card. You can only use this effect of "Knightmare Phoenix" once per turn. Co-linked monsters you control cannot be destroyed by battle.

A Link 2 Knightmare Monster owns Backrow Removal Effect by discarding 1 card (this effect can combo with Dotscaper). Phoenix's co-linked effect will allows you to have 1 Card Draw and Battle Destruction Protection.

Security Dragon
Security Dragon
LIGHT Cyberse
ATK 1100 / LINK 2
Selection Box Vol.02 Super Mini [SR]
2 monsters
Once while face-up on the field, if this card is co-linked: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; return it to the hand. You can only use this effect of "Security Dragon" once per turn.

A Link 2 Monster with Compulsory Evacuation Device's effect while Security Dragon is co-linked which is great combo disruptive tech to your opponent.

Other Cards Option

Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning

Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
LIGHT Warrior ★8
ATK 3000 / DEF 2500
Selection Box Vol.05 [UR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard. Once per turn, you can activate 1 of these effects.

● Target 1 monster on the field; banish that target face-up. This card cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.
● If this attacking card destroys an opponent's monster by battle, after damage calculation: It can make a second attack in a row.

Easily special summonable in this deck since there are LIGHT and DARK Thunder Dragons. Its effect is pretty decent for either monster removal or as an OTK option, which can often force your opponent to activate their effects to deal with this, allowing you to more safely follow it up with a different level 8 boss monster.

Since it's also a level 8, this makes it easier to make a rank 8 Xyz with the other boss monsters to become Heliopolis for more card removals. This is a good follow-up if you used BLS' effect to banish since it can't attack afterwards.

Odd-Eyes Advance Dragon

Odd-Eyes Advance Dragon
Odd-Eyes Advance Dragon
LIGHT Dragon ★8
ATK 3000 / DEF 2500
Yuya Sakaki at Lvl 10, 18, and 30
You can Tribute Summon this card by Tributing 1 Level 5 or higher monster. If this card is Tribute Summoned: You can destroy 1 monster your opponent controls, and if you do, inflict damage to your opponent equal to that monster's original ATK. When this card destroys a monster by battle: You can Special Summon 1 Level 5 or higher monster from your hand or GY in Defense Position, except "Odd-Eyes Advance Dragon". You can only use this effect of "Odd-Eyes Advance Dragon" once per turn.

Searchable with The Melody of Awakening Dragon, alongside Levianeer. As long as you can summon any high-level monster, you can tribute summon into this to get a non-targeting monster removal that also deals effect damage.

Against high ATK enemies, this can deal some noticeable damage. If they only have 1 strong boss monster out, tributing into this to destroy and deal effect damage plus a direct attack is already an OTK.

Chaos Dragon Levianeer

Chaos Dragon Levianeer
Chaos Dragon Levianeer
DARK Dragon ★8
ATK 3000 / DEF 0
Selection Box Vol. 02 Mini [UR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 3 LIGHT and/or DARK monsters from your GY. When Summoned this way: You can activate this effect; apply the following effect, based on the Attribute(s) of the monsters banished for the Special Summon, also this card cannot attack for the rest of this turn.
● Only LIGHT: Special Summon 1 monster from your GY in Defense Position.
● Only DARK: Shuffle 1 random card from your opponent's hand into the Deck.
● Both LIGHT and DARK: Destroy up to 2 cards on the field.
You can only use this effect of "Chaos Dragon Levianeer" once per turn.

Levianeer adds a significant amount of firepower to the deck. Thanks to its high ATK and ability to destroy up to two cards upon summon Chaos Dragon Levianeer can be a truly devastating card especially in a deck that has no trouble filling the Graveyard with its summoning cost quickly and consistently.

Always summon Levianeer with a combination of LIGHT and DARK monsters as cost. The multi-card removal effect is its most useful effect. Another thing is to always use Thunder Dragons as cost when possible, activating their effects. But don't use Thunder Dragons whose effect has already been activated during the turn.

Levianeer is effectively just a 3000 ATK beater after you use its effect and won't even be able to attack the turn it's summoned. Because of this you might want to pair Levianeer with Raiden to make Onimaru. Onimaru has the same ATK as Levianeer but with better DEF and protection from destruction effects.

Trifortressops

Trifortressops
Trifortressops
DARK Machine ★6
ATK 1600 / DEF 2800
Galactic Origin [UR]
During either player's turn, if your opponent Summoned 3 or more monsters this turn: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. If this card is Special Summoned this way, it is unaffected by other card effects, but loses 500 DEF during each player's Standby Phase.

Your opponent might fill their field with monsters when going for an OTK. And with many modern combos involving Synchros and Xyzs will spam monsters, Trifortressops' Special Summoning condition won't be hard to fulfill. In this case Trifortressops can be Special Summoned in defense position as a wall to stop the OTK.

If Trifortressops survives till your turn, it being a Level-6 makes it a good pair with your other Level-6 Thunder Dragons to make a Rank-6.

Hand Traps

Keep D.D. Crow and Sphere on hand until you need their effects. Being DARK Attributes, they also help with Levianeer's summoning cost.

D.D. Crow
D.D. Crow
DARK Winged Beast ★1
ATK 100 / DEF 100
Shining Hope [UR]
During either player's turn: You can discard this card to the Graveyard to target 1 card in your opponent's Graveyard; banish that target.

Strategically banishing a card in the opponent's graveyard can prevent them from recycling key cards.

Sphere Kuriboh
Sphere Kuriboh
DARK Fiend ★1
ATK 300 / DEF 200
The Ultimate Rising [UR]
When an opponent's monster declares an attack: You can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard; change the attacking monster to Defense Position. When you Ritual Summon a monster, you can banish this card from your Graveyard as 1 of the monsters required for the Ritual Summon.

Use Sphere Kuriboh to defend against attacks and lethal damage.

Don't even understand why this thing can be a tier 1.

Insane card advantage and a wide array of boss monsters that are easy to summon.

It can nuke the field with brd and the special summon 3 monsters. All these in 1 turn.

Just an ok deck. Not worth the gem. If the opponent have more than 3K attack and able to negate effects. Is either the player LP0 or run out of cards due to lightsworn effect. I suggest to replace 2 Sphere Kuri for 2 Kiteroid. I meet a player that did this but it only delay a few round before he loss to me due to out of cards.

A f2p version?

F2P version: reroll new accounts until you get 2 Chaos Levianeer (with hopefully at least 1 Gold Sarc) from the volume boxes. Use UR dream ticket for 2nd Gold Sarc. Wait for a third UR dream ticket to get 3rd Gold Sarc while farming gems and hunting down all the other required cards from boxes. Good luck (my estimated gem price would be around 60-70k gems).

F2P version (continued): I actually got the above start with 2 Chaos Levianeer and 1 Gold Sarc. Currently still only have 2 Hawks and 1 Charge. Going through Judgment box for the other 2 Charge and 2 Raiden, then will go for 1 Plague, and finally start working on getting good synchros and eventually 3rd Hawk. Small side note, I will not be going for 3 Sphere Kuri, too many gems for an old box.

Let's be honest this deck is expensive. So no to f2p. That being said I have everything except 3 hawks,I mean COME ON! That's just more gems and money for three. But I'm making 2 hawks work.

I never play this game for a long time. Corona virus lockdown i decided to start again. First time i encounter this deck, i beat it just now. Took some snap shot as proof for myself. I beat it with my cheapest deck which only me cost me 1500 gem to build. I think the player don't understand his card well and never really bother to understand my card effects when i play.

Kinda funny that Effect Veiler would be pretty much useless against this deck.

Not really. It may not touch TD's since except Duo, they generally don't activate any effects on the field, but it would be useful at negating Levianeer and the various synchros the deck can run. Furthermore every TD deck would run EV since it triples as a negate, tuner, and light material for Duo/Levianeer summons.
