Thunder Dragon: deck recipe [Mar 9]

Duel Links Thunder Dragon deck, Thunder Dragon in the meta, how to use Thunder Dragon cards.
update 09/03/2023
Glow-Up Bulb
Glow-Up Bulb
EARTH Plant ★1
ATK 100 / DEF 100
Judgement Force [UR]
If this card is in the Graveyard: You can send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard, and if you do, Special Summon this card. You can only use this effect of "Glow-Up Bulb" once per Duel.

Glow-Up Bulb's effect essentially lets you revive it for free while also giving you free graveyard setup. Put Glow-Up Bulb in the graveyard with your Lightsworn engine and revive it when needed for a Synchro Summon. Usually you will pair Glow-Up Bulb with a revived Thunder Dragon monster or Chaos Betrayer to make a level-6 or 7 Synchro.

Psi-Reflector Engine

Normal Summon Psi-Reflector, add Assault Beast from your Deck to your hand, discard Assault Beast to search Assault Mode Activate, Special Summon Assault Beast from the Graveyard via Psi-Reflector’s effect.

  • If you increase Assault Beast’s Level by 1, you can Synchro Summon Stardust Charge Warrior.
  • If you increase its Level by 2, you can Summon Odd-Eyes Meteor Dragon, Black Rose Dragon or Samurai Destroyer.
Psi-Reflector
Psi-Reflector
EARTH Psychic ★1
ATK 400 / DEF 300
Kings Resonance [SR]
If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 "Assault Mode Activate", or 1 card that specifically lists "Assault Mode Activate" in its text, from your Deck to your hand, except "Psi-Reflector". You can reveal 1 "Assault Mode Activate" in your hand, then target 1 monster in your GY that specifically lists "Assault Mode Activate" in its text, except "Psi-Reflector"; Special Summon it, and if you do, increase its Level by 1 to 4. You can only use each effect of "Psi-Reflector" once per turn.
Assault Beast
Assault Beast
EARTH Beast-Warrior ★4
ATK 1900 / DEF 1200
Kings Resonance [R]
You can discard this card to the Graveyard to add 1 "Assault Mode Activate" from your Deck to your hand.
Assault Mode Activate
Assault Mode Activate
Normal Trap
Kings Resonance [SR]
Tribute 1 Synchro Monster. Special Summon 1 "/Assault Mode" monster whose name includes the Tributed monster's name from your Deck in Attack Position.

Arcana Force XIV - Temperance

Arcana Force XIV - Temperance
Arcana Force XIV - Temperance
LIGHT Fairy ★6
ATK 2400 / DEF 2400
Sartorius Kumar Unlock Event [SR]
During damage calculation, in either player's turn: You can discard this card; you take no Battle Damage from that battle. When this card is Summoned: Toss a coin and apply this effect. The effect lasts while this card is face-up on the field.● Heads: Halve all Battle Damage you take.● Tails: Halve all Battle Damage your opponent takes.

Use Temperance similar to how you would use Kiteroid; keep Temperance in your hand and discard it to block battle damage. Temperance has more synergy than Kiteroid with this Deck due to being a LIGHT monster. This means it can be banished as cost for summoning Levianeer or Dragonduo.

Batteryman Micro-Cell

Batteryman Micro-Cell
Batteryman Micro-Cell
LIGHT Thunder ★1
ATK 100 / DEF 100
Burning Nova [SR]
Selection Box Vol. 02 [SR]
FLIP: Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Batteryman" monster from your Deck, except "Batteryman Micro-Cell". After this card has been flipped face-up, when it is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, draw 1 card.

To summon Batteryman Solar from the deck and get a draw when destroyed. It's a strong effect that provides 2 good benefits, but won't always work that well since there are plenty of monster removals that don't involve battling.

Wightprincess

Wightprincess
Wightprincess
DARK Zombie ★3
ATK 1600 / DEF 0
Energy of Gigarays [R]
This card’s name becomes "Skull Servant" while it is in the Graveyard. If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can send 1 "Wightprince" from your Deck to the Graveyard. During either player's turn: You can send this card from your hand or field to the Graveyard; all monsters currently on the field lose ATK and DEF equal to their own Level/Rank x 300, until the end of this turn.

Can be used during either players' turn makes this card more useful to prevent OTK from your opponent by reducing their ATK regarding to their own Level/Rank. After that, you can Special Summon Chaos Dragon Levianeer by banishing this card and 1 Dark Thunder Dragon Monsters from your Graveyard.

Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss

Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
DARK Fiend ★3
ATK 1000 / DEF 1900
Fantastic Arc [R]
If you control a monster that is not a "Burning Abyss" monster, destroy this card. You can only use 1 of these effects of "Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss" per turn, and only once that turn.

● If you control no Spell/Trap Cards: You can Special Summon this card from your hand.
● If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 monster on the field; banish it until the End Phase.

Even though the banish effect is only temporary, it's still useful to remove certain monsters so you can attack directly or disrupt your opponent combo.

The Melody of Awakening Dragon

The Melody of Awakening Dragon
The Melody of Awakening Dragon
Normal Spell
Seto Kaiba [SR]
Discard 1 card; add up to 2 Dragon-Type monsters with 3000 or more ATK and 2500 or less DEF from your Deck to your hand.

A searcher for adding Chaos Dragon Levianeer and Odd-Eyes Advance Dragon from your Deck.

Gold Sarcophagus

Gold Sarcophagus
Gold Sarcophagus
Normal Spell
Selection Box Vol. 03
Spellbound Silence [UR]
Banish 1 card from your Deck, face-up. During your second Standby Phase after this card's activation, add that card to your hand.

Banish Roar to special summon Dark so you can tribute summon Advance Dragon, or just use it on Levianeer so you are guaranteed to get it 2 turns later.

Other Extra Decks

Trishula, the Dragon of Icy Imprisonment
Trishula, the Dragon of Icy Imprisonment
WATER Dragon ★9
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Arena of Sanctuary [UR]
3 monsters with different names
Must first be either Fusion Summoned using only monsters in your hand and/or field, or Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by banishing the above cards you control (in which case you do not use "Polymerization"). If this card was Special Summoned using only monsters that were originally Dragons: You can reveal and banish 3 cards (1 from your Deck, 1 from the top of your opponent's Deck, and 1 from their Extra Deck). You can only use this effect of "Trishula, the Dragon of Icy Imprisonment" once per turn.

Helps clear some monster zones or as a follow-up in case your monsters get locked up or negated. Banishing Thunder Dragons will trigger their banish effect so you can combo into other plays.

Vermillion Dragon Mech
Vermillion Dragon Mech
FIRE Machine ★9
ATK 2700 / DEF 1800
Blazing Rose [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Once per turn: You can banish 1 Tuner from your hand, field, or Graveyard, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it. If this Synchro Summoned card is destroyed by card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 of your banished Tuners; add it to your hand.

Vermillion Dragon Mech can be made with Raiden plus Thunder Dragondark. It's removal effect is simple and cost efficient but you don't really have much Tuners to use as cost in this deck. Usually you'll only be able to use this effect once with the Raiden you used as synchro material for cost.

Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon
Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon
FIRE Dragon ★7
ATK 2500 / DEF 2000
Force of Infinity [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

When this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 card in your Pendulum Zone; Special Summon it, also this card cannot attack for the rest of this turn. You can only use this effect of "Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon" once per turn. Monsters in your opponent's possession cannot activate their effects during the Battle Phase.

Mainly to disable/prevent monster effects during your battle phase, which can prevent commonly used handtraps that often stalls the duel.

Assault Blackwing - Onimaru the Divine Thunder
Assault Blackwing - Onimaru the Divine Thunder
DARK Winged Beast ★12
ATK 3000 / DEF 2000
Aerial Assault [R]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
If this card is Synchro Summoned using a "Blackwing" monster as Material, it is treated as a Tuner while face-up on the field. Cannot be destroyed by card effects. You can target 1 "Blackwing" monster in your Graveyard; this card's Level becomes the same as that monster's. You can only use this effect of "Assault Blackwing - Onimaru the Divine Thunder" once per Duel. If this card that was Synchro Summoned using only Synchro Monsters attacks, this card gains 3000 ATK during the Damage Step only.

Levianeer is effectively just a beater as it sits on the field. So you can pair Levianeer with Raiden to make Onimaru, an equally strong beater but with inherent protection.

Giganticastle
Giganticastle
EARTH Rock ★9
ATK 2900 / DEF 2800
Card Trader [R]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
This card gains 200 ATK and DEF for each non-Tuner Synchro Material Monster used to Synchro Summon this card.

Giganticastle is not as generally useful as Vermillion Dragon Mech but can reach higher ATK stats. This lets overpower stronger enemies and possibly deal more damage.

Black Rose Dragon
Black Rose Dragon
FIRE Dragon ★7
ATK 2400 / DEF 1800
Blazing Rose [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
When this card is Synchro Summoned: You can destroy all cards on the field. Once per turn: You can banish 1 Plant-Type monster from your Graveyard, then target 1 Defense Position monster your opponent controls; change that target to face-up Attack Position, and if you do, its ATK becomes 0 until the end of this turn.

Special Summon Black Rose Dragon to get rid of your opponent's entire field setup.

Samurai Destroyer
Samurai Destroyer
EARTH Machine ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 1400
Dark Dimension [R]
Fantastic Arc [R]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters
If this card battles an opponent's monster, your opponent cannot activate cards or effects until the end of the Damage Step, also that opponent's monster has its effects negated during the Battle Phase only. If this face-up card in its owner's control leaves the field because of an opponent's card effect: You can target 1 Machine monster in your GY; Special Summon it.

Summon Samurai Destroyer as an offensive option. He prevents your opponent from activating effects when he battles, stopping battle traps and disruption like Sphere Kuriboh and Kiteroid, letting all of Samurai Destroyer's attacks go through.

Monsters battling Samurai Destroyer have their effects negated. This makes Samurai Destroyer a good way to get rid of monsters without triggering their floating effects. You can also attack into monsters and ignore their self ATK boosts.

Stardust Charge Warrior
Stardust Charge Warrior
WIND Warrior ★6
ATK 2000 / DEF 1300
Master Pack [R]
Selection Pack: Revival of Legends [R]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
When this card is Synchro Summoned: You can draw 1 card. You can only use this effect of "Stardust Charge Warrior" once per turn. This card can attack all Special Summoned monsters your opponent controls, once each.

The draw effect upon summoning helps you maintain resources for something as costly as synchro climbing.

Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis
Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis
LIGHT Dragon ★8
ATK 3000 / DEF 2500
Infinite Ray [UR]
2 Level 8 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Tribute any number of monsters from your hand and/or your side of the field (minimum 1), then destroy an equal number of cards on the field.

Heliopolis can be made with any combination of Levianeer and Thunder Dragonduo. With sufficient cost, Heliopolis can destroy everything on your opponent's board resulting in an easy OTK. The fact that summoning Heliopolis implies you summoned Levianeer and used its removal effect, so you've already reduced the opponent's field beforehand.

Level Duplication makes summoning Heliopolis much easier because you can have a monster on the field become Level-8 before summoning Levianeer.

Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger
Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger
WIND Dragon ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 2100
Infinite Ray [SR]
2 Level 7 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a Rank 5 or 6 Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.

If your rank 5 or 6 monsters are locked up or negated because of your opponent's card, you can rank up into this so that you can still attack.

Number 25: Force Focus
Number 25: Force Focus
LIGHT Machine ★6
ATK 2800 / DEF 2400
Shining Hope [SR]
2 Level 6 monsters
Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Level 5 or higher Effect Monster your opponent controls; negate the effects of that opponent's face-up monster, until the end of the turn.

Force Focus is good for negating the effects of high-leveled monsters. You can hit Synchro monsters with this negation because they're often high leveled and are quite common to toolbox.

Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal
Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal
LIGHT Fairy ★6
ATK 2500 / DEF 2800
Heart of Xyz [SR]
2 Level 6 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by sending 1 "Burning Abyss" monster from your hand to the Graveyard, then using 1 "Dante" monster you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If Summoned this way, the following effect cannot be activated this turn. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; send 1 card from your Deck to the Graveyard. If this card in your possession is destroyed by your opponent's card (by battle or card effect) and sent to your Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Burning Abyss" monster from your Extra Deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions.

Good Graveyard Setup Combo Enabler in this Deck to trigger those monster's effects for combo setup or disruption.

Jinzo - Layered
Jinzo - Layered
DARK Machine ★7
ATK 2400 / DEF 1500
Energy of Gigarays [SR]
3 Level 6 monsters
You can detach 1 material from this card, then target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; take control of it until the End Phase, but it cannot activate its effects or declare an attack. If a Trap is on the field: You can Tribute 1 monster, and if you do, destroy 1 face-up card on the field. You can only use each effect of "Jinzo - Layered" once per turn.

You can activate Jinzo - Layered's effect to take control 1 monster of your opponent control that cannot be destroyed by battle or card effect, then tribute it to destroy 1 face-up card on your opponent's field.

Adreus, Keeper of Armageddon
Adreus, Keeper of Armageddon
DARK Fiend ★5
ATK 2600 / DEF 1700
Shark Fang [SR]
2 Level 5 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to target 1 face-up card your opponent controls; destroy it.

Adreus has a decent ATK stat and on-demand removal effect. Summon it to pop an enemy card like how you would with Dire Wolf, but less costly and using Level-5 monsters as material.

Number 68: Sanaphond the Sky Prison
Number 68: Sanaphond the Sky Prison
DARK Rock ★8
ATK 2100 / DEF 2700
Infinite Ray [R]
2 Level 8 monsters
Gains 100 ATK and DEF for each monster in the GYs. Once per turn: You can detach 1 material from this card; until the end of your opponent's next turn, this card cannot be destroyed by card effects, also neither player can Special Summon monsters from the GYs.

With the amount of Graveyard setup present in this Deck Sanaphond should easily reach 3000+ ATK. On top of its powerful stats, Sanaphond also comes with inherent protection and graveyard disruption.

Powercode Talker
Powercode Talker
FIRE Cyberse
ATK 2300 / LINK 3
Playmaker and Ai at Lvl 23 [UR]
3 monsters
Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster on the field; negate that target's effects until the end of this turn. Once per turn, if this card battles an opponent's monster, during damage calculation (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 monster this card points to; this card's ATK becomes double its original ATK during that damage calculation only.

Powercode Talker's first effect allows you to nullify 1 monster your opponent controls until the end of that turn. The second Double Powercode's Original ATK effect (during damage calculation only) by tributing 1 monster this card points to during damage calculation when it battles an opponent's monster. This effect can allow you to get rid of Boss Monster easily.

Code Talker
Code Talker
DARK Cyberse
ATK 1300 / LINK 3
Vrains World Celebration Campaign [UR]
2 Effect Monsters
Gains 500 ATK for each monster this card points to. Cannot be destroyed by battle or your opponent's card effects, while this card points to a monster.

500 ATK boost effect for each monster it points to with Battle or Card Effect Protection when Code Talker points to a monster.

Space Insulator
Space Insulator
DARK Cyberse
ATK 1200 / LINK 2
Link Revolution [N]
2 monsters
Monsters this card points to lose 800 ATK/DEF. When a Cyberse Link Monster is Link Summoned to your field, while this card is in your GY, except the turn this card was sent to the GY: You can Special Summon this card to your zone that monster points to, but it cannot be used as a Link Material, also banish it when it leaves the field.

Power Stats Decrease to your opponent's monsters (including yours) that are pointed to this card. You can revive Space Insulator as Beater while you Link Summon any Cyberse Monster.

Thunder dragons with no handtraps, no aloof and 1 dragondark? Wtf? Your first turn is set a batteryman and pray?

Not many peeps is using the set batteryman and they have hand trap to last the next turn.

This deck isn't dead. No need proof because it's fact.

Last nail in the coffin. This broken deck is finally gone after more than a year.

Hahahaha! Nice joke! Do you believe a deck that has cards that can trigger their effects on hand, gy, field or when removed will ever cease to exist? TD will always be a tier deck. Imo, the levianeer limit was done so konami can release and sell the thunder dragon fusions in an upcoming box. Mark my words. Typical konami.

A deck doesn't have all those effects. It is only broken with those splashable can cer cards. Levianeer is one of them. Then we have those Charge of Light Brigade, Aloof, Gold Sarco... can cer that can be abuse in multiple decks should all be limited.

Lol Instead of a nerf, Thunderdragons got a second Levianeer, which destroys your monster and deals damage for half health and it cannot be negated with anything. At least against Levianeer you could make Steelswarm roach sometimes. It's just not fair to play against. They drop half of the deck into the graveyard then summon 5+ monsters in one turn. Levianeer as kamikaze cleans the field better and easer to summon than Blackrose dragon. And destiny draw sh!t as cherry on top of this

Are you a newbie? When Crystron was at full strength, ONLY A FEW played this deck, because it required memorizing synchro levels, combinations, what monsters can you get from what you have in your hand, and also react correctly to the state of the field. It was difficult in other words

True. People like to have straightforward meta decks that require little to no thinking. This is true for all ranks from the very lowest up to KoG.
