If a monster(s) is Special Summoned, except from the Graveyard, while you control a Level 7 or 8 Dragon-Type monster: That face-up Special Summoned monster(s) has its effects negated until the end of this turn (even if this card leaves the field). Once per turn: You can send 1 other face-up card you control to the Graveyard; Special Summon 1 "Dragon Lord Token" (Dragon-Type/LIGHT/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0). If this card is in your Graveyard: You can send 1 Level 7 or 8 Dragon-Type monster from your hand or face-up from your field to the Graveyard; add this card to your hand.

Evaluation

RatingB

Pros

  • Can net you card advantage with the right combos.
  • Negates monster effects.
  • Can Retrieve itself for a cost.

Cons

  • Retrieval costs you a big monster.
  • Negation effect can only be used when you have a level 7 or 8 Dragon-type monster on the field.

Tips

Felgrand

  • You can use the effect of Guardian of Felgrand and equip him with a high-leveled Dragon monster from your hand. Then, with ruins of the Dragon Lord, send the equipped monster to the graveyard to summon a Dragon Token. Send Guardian of Felgrand and the Dragon Token to the graveyard to revive your Dragon-type monster.
  • Equip Paladin of Felgrand with a Dragon-type monster from your deck. Then, with ruins of the Dragon Lord, send the equipped monster to the graveyard to summon a Dragon Token. Send Paladin of Felgrand and the Dragon Token to the graveyard to revive your Dragon-type monster.

Red-Eyes Slash Dragon

Red-Eyes Slash Dragon is a good monster to have on the field with Ruins of the Dragon Lord. You can negate the effect of monsters your opponent special summons. And Red-Eyes Slash Dragon can provide you with cards to fuel the summoning of Dragon Tokens. Additionally, Red-Eyes Slash Dragon synergizes well with the Felgrand Archetype this card was made for.

Revival

  • By sending Arkbrave Dragon to the graveyard to retrieve this card, you will also be able to special summon a level 7 or 8 Dragon-type monster from your graveyard.
  • Use Dragon Tokens as Cost for Dragon's Rebirth so that you do not need to remove from play any of your cards.

Other Level 7 and 8 Dragon-type monsters

Here are some monsters that you could use to synergize with this card.

Keep in mind that it doesn't negate some effects when monsters are summoned. The order of activation goes:

1. Turn player's mandatory effects (When/if summoned, do this)
2. Non-turn player's mandatory effects (Ruins of the Divine Dragon Lord)
3. Turn Player's optional effects (When/if summoned, you CAN do this)

This means Ruins would be Chain 1 while optional summon effects Chain 2.

So this card only negates monsters that don't have a effect when summoned, and monsters that have mandatory effects when summoned. Monsters that have optional effects when summoned and those with quick effects can bypass the negate.

Thank you.
I just added this to my deck, first duel I had summoned Cosmo Brain and it negated his effect and he lost his attack, then in the same turn I summoned Spirit Dragon of White and I was relieved and confused when his effect wasn't negated and I could banish my opponent's spell.
So I came here and you answered exactly what I wanted to figure out. Thanks!

"If a monster(s) is Special Summoned, except from the Graveyard"

Also it only negate said monster's effect, the other monsters your opponent control are not affected

Taking about fur hires, sometimes it negates their effects. And sometimes no, and of course we are taking about Special Summon and not from GY. Could you be more specific pls?
Thanks for answering!

The monster whose effect is negated is the Special Summoned monster, and only during the turn the monster is Special Summoned.

So for example if Donpa Special Summons Wiz, Wiz's effect will be negated this turn, but Donpa's effect to destroy a card would still activate.

Furthermore, Wiz can respond to Spell/Trap activation on the next turn, as her effect is no longer negated on the next turn.

No it says, when a monster is special summoned. Not Ritual summoned.

Ritual summon IS special summon

This doesn't stop Dakini because of the way thechain forms. Since Dakini is optional and Ruins is mandatory, Ruins is chain link 1 and Dakini is chain link 2. So Dakini resolves before Ruins can negate her effect. I think it would cancel her piercing effect, though.

Dank! Why we can only get 1 copy of this card?!! I will be able to counter Bikini, Relin, Toon Barrel and such cards if I have 3 of this in my REBD or BEWD deck for consistency

When this is on the field, summon Paladin of Felgrad to fetch a dragon, then send that dragon to the grave using Ruins to create a Token, then sac the token and paladin to summon any high level dragon from the grave.
<< Anonymous(Ulle)

Also you can use the token as a target for Dragon's Rebirth. And in the future use the tokens for XYZ summon.

Really good card... for the Synchro Era and onward. but it's nice we got it early. Won't have any use now though since we aren't dependent on extra deck plays yet.

Does this counters relinquished and ninjas?

yes

Keep in mind that it doesn't negate Phoenix because it's Special Summoned from the Graveyard. This card doesn't trigger from that.
