If Summoned this way, activate these effects and resolve in sequence, depending on the type of card(s) negated by that Counter Trap:● Spell: Inflict 1500 damage to your opponent.● Trap: Target 1 card your opponent controls; destroy that target.● Monster: Target 1 monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it.

  • Can be special summoned, and not limited to special summon only.
  • Versatile effects depending on negated card type.
  • High attack and defense.


  • Only 1 copy can be obtained, and can only be special summoned from your hand.
  • If not special summoned with its condition, it requires 2 tributes to tribute summon.
  • All of its effects are from special summoning, and will only activate once after it's summoned on its condition.

Tips, related cards, skills

Divine Wrath

Monster activation are getting more and more common, and negating these effects can be crucial to stop their plays, especially since it will also destroy their monster. This will end up letting you special summon Van'Dalgyon and destroying your opponent's monster, for the price of 1 discard.

Magic Jammer

Magic Jammer is a guaranteed trap card to negate your opponent's spell card. You will have to discard a card to use this, but using it when you have Van'Dalgyon in your hand will let you special summon it, and inflict 1500 damage to your opponent.

Seven Tools of the Bandit

Effective for negating most trap cards, but it costs 1000 LP, and can't be used to summon Van'Dalgyon if you negate traps that are activated in damage step.

Ultimate Providence

A versatile counter trap that can negate monster activation, spell, or trap cards, provided that you have the type of card you want to negate in your hand as well. You will have to be more conservative about using, or setting your cards if you want to use this.

Champion's Vigilance

In a Champion's Vigilance deck, this 1 card can negate a variety of cards, making it quite simple to summon Van'Dalgyon if you manage to get it off.

Dark Voltanis

Another card that can be special summoned when you use a counter trap card, but Voltanis comes with another requirement to use. Putting both Voltanis and Van'Dalgyon can work if you are using mostly Dark attribute monsters, otherwise, it can potentially become a dead card in your hand.

Okay does this not work with graveyard negation? I negated a sylvan monster’s effect with divine punishment but nothing happened after that. I thought I had a chance at a comeback but nothing happened.

This is incorrect. you *CAN* negate cards that activate in the grave (that is literally what debunk is about). I have no idea why, but the cards really do seem finicky about when they want to activate

It's not finicky, it just can't activate in the Damage Step. (Also, why do people respond to ancient posts?)

This card might become useful now that the new mini box is out
Maaan this card only works when it wants to work. I negated a trap and it’s effect didn’t even activate. Most of the cards that supposed to activate in response to a counter trap either missed its timing idk how or just glitched out smh

You need to go back to elementary school and learn how to read and understand a text.
I've been running this in a deck with Ultimate Providence and Divine Wrath. Also have 3x Chaos Hunter in the deck.
This card is dead the time CV got limited. RIP.

without vigilance it is trash, bause there is no dragon deck where this card fits atm.

Exactly. Plus it can also help out with missions that we have to accomplish. Like Inflict 1,500 damage in one duel.
Could work in a counter fairy deck.
Hi,can anyone plz tell me that which phase is actually the damage phase is it my battle phase or mu opponent's battle phase ??

The damage on negating spell is delivered on the very phase of the game in which concerned spell is negated. that is main phase 1 or 2
This card is not that good. At begining I was very exicited to use, but I end with the card in my hand in several duels even with 3 vigilances.

This card can be amazing in the right deck, a combo with a dragon deck, and dragon rebirth plus kidmodo, i got this card, bewd and vanguard with 2200 atk in field,
However you need to be careful to not build a dead hand deck
