Hazy Flame: deck recipe [Aug 17]

Duel Links Hazy Flame deck, Hazy Flame in the current meta, how to use.
update 17/08/2022

Overview

“Hazy Flame” is an archetype of Level 6 FIRE monsters that was originally introduced via the Card Trader quite a long time ago.

“Hazy Flame” monsters cannot be targeted by card effects, they are able to quickly swarm the field and, as a consequence, they can take advantage of the Skill Beatdown! to make up for their relatively mediocre stats and overwhelm the opponent.

How to Use

True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher

True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher
True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher
FIRE Wyrm ★9
ATK 2900 / DEF 1900
Selection Box Vol.05 [UR]
If this card is in your hand: You can destroy 2 other monsters in your hand and/or face-up on your field, including a FIRE monster, and if you do, Special Summon this card, and if you do that, you can banish 1 monster from your opponent's field or Graveyard, if both the destroyed monsters were FIRE. If this card is destroyed by card effect: You can add 1 non-FIRE Wyrm-Type monster from your Graveyard to your hand. You can only use each effect of "True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher" once per turn.

It's a powerful boss monster since it has a non-targeting monster removal effect. The cost of summoning isn't a big issue in this deck since some monsters have effects when destroyed. Even if you use the ones that don't, you can still follow it up by tribute summoning into Sphynx or Peryton.

Ideally, you want to use a Cerbereus as the cost since it will activate Cerbereus' search effect, which is also not once per turn so you can use 2 Cerbereus as the cost and both of them will activate.

Arvata is fine too since it can special summon a monster from your graveyard. The special summoned monster is negated so it's mostly just to have another monster on the field for tribute or help with Xyz/OTK.

Hazy Flame Monsters

Hazy Flame Peryton
Hazy Flame Peryton
FIRE Beast ★6
ATK 1600 / DEF 1700
Blades of Spirits [R]
Rage of Volcano [R]
Cannot be Special Summoned, except by a "Hazy Flame" monster's effect. Your opponent cannot target this card with card effects. You can send 1 FIRE monster from your hand to the Graveyard and Tribute this card; Special Summon 2 "Hazy Flame" monsters from your Deck. You can only use this effect of "Hazy Flame Peryton" once per turn.

Use its effect to special summon a Sphynx and another monster from the deck, then use Sphynx's effect to special summon another monster from the hand/grave. You can then use the 2 monsters that are not Sphynx to Xyz into Exa-Beetle and rank up into Rhinosebus.

Hazy Flame Sphynx
Hazy Flame Sphynx
FIRE Beast-Warrior ★6
ATK 1900 / DEF 1900
Card Trader [R]
Your opponent cannot target this card with card effects. You can declare 1 card type (Monster, Spell, or Trap); send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard, then if it was the declared card type, you can Special Summon 1 FIRE monster from your hand or Graveyard. You can only use this effect of "Hazy Flame Sphynx" once per turn.

Another Xyz enabler albeit less consistent than Peryton. Summon Sphynx and use its effect to get another Hazy monster onboard for an Xyz summon. Depending on how many spells you put in the deck, the odds can be pretty high or end up in a fail.

You can also use its effect to revive Basiltrice, but if you don't use cards to put materials into Basiltrice, it's not really going to be worth it.

Hazy Flame Cerbereus
Hazy Flame Cerbereus
FIRE Beast ★6
ATK 2000 / DEF 200
Blades of Spirits [N]
Rage of Volcano [N]
You can Normal Summon this card without Tributing, but its original ATK becomes 1000. Your opponent cannot target this card with card effects. When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can add 1 "Hazy" card from your Deck to your hand.

It's a searcher when destroyed which you can somewhat manually trigger by using Arvata or Onslaught.

With the search effect, you'll want to prioritize either Peryton or Griffin so you can start making some plays.

Hazy Flame Griffin
Hazy Flame Griffin
FIRE Winged Beast ★6
ATK 200 / DEF 2100
Rage of Volcano [R]
If your opponent controls a monster, and all the monsters (if any) on your side of the field and in your Graveyard are FIRE (and only FIRE), you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). Your opponent cannot target this card with card effects.

Griffin can be Special Summoned anytime to use as Xyz material. For a quick Basiltrice, Normal Summon Cerbereus then Special Summon Griffin.

Burning Abyss Monsters

Burning Abyss monsters are all level 3 and have similar effects. Each turn, you can activate their effects to either special summon them when you have no spell/trap cards on the field or activate their sent to the graveyard effect.

Since they can all special summon themselves, it makes it very easy to Xyz into a rank 3 Xyz, which is going to be Dante, then dive into Beatrice. Beatrice has a milling effect to trigger BA's sent to graveyard effect for some combo or extended plays.

Quick notes on BA monsters' sent to graveyard effects:

  • Scarm: Search for a level 3 DARK Fiend-Type monster from your deck. But this activates during the end phase.
  • Farfa: Targets a monster on the field and banish it until the end phase.
  • Cir: Can special summon a BA monster from the grave (other than itself), which includes Dante or Beatrice.
Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
DARK Fiend ★3
ATK 800 / DEF 2000
Fantastic Arc [UR]
If you control a monster that is not a "Burning Abyss" monster, destroy this card. You can only use 1 of these effects of "Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss" per turn, and only once that turn.

● If you control no Spell/Trap Cards: You can Special Summon this card from your hand.
● During the End Phase, if this card is in the Graveyard because it was sent there this turn: You can add 1 Level 3 DARK Fiend-Type monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss".

The search effect is pretty slow since it works during the end phase. But thanks to the Beatrice effect, you can add another Burning Abyss monster during your opponent's End Phase.

Search for Cir so you can sort of loop Cir and Scarm combo, or Farfa so you can prevent milling all of them from the deck right away.

Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
DARK Fiend ★3
ATK 1000 / DEF 1900
Fantastic Arc [R]
If you control a monster that is not a "Burning Abyss" monster, destroy this card. You can only use 1 of these effects of "Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss" per turn, and only once that turn.

● If you control no Spell/Trap Cards: You can Special Summon this card from your hand.
● If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 monster on the field; banish it until the End Phase.

Even though the banish effect is only temporary, it's still useful to remove certain monsters so you can attack directly.

Keep in mind that this can also banish your own cards which means you can banish your own Sphynx during your opponent's turn to protect it from destroyed by battle (1900 ATK is easily to get rid of), then swarm another Hazy Flame monsters on the next turn.

Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal
Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal
LIGHT Fairy ★6
ATK 2500 / DEF 2800
Heart of Xyz [SR]
2 Level 6 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by sending 1 "Burning Abyss" monster from your hand to the Graveyard, then using 1 "Dante" monster you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If Summoned this way, the following effect cannot be activated this turn. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; send 1 card from your Deck to the Graveyard. If this card in your possession is destroyed by your opponent's card (by battle or card effect) and sent to your Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Burning Abyss" monster from your Extra Deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions.

Main Graveyard Setup Combo Enabler in this Deck to trigger those monster's effect for combo setup or disruption. Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal (Speed 2 effect) works great that can allows you to sent Burning Abyss monsters to the Graveyard during your opponent's turn.

This effect will trigger Burning Abyss' monster, Tackle Crusader and Mars effect which can let you setup the board easier and faster.

Super Quantum Red Layer

Super Quantum Red Layer
Super Quantum Red Layer
FIRE Warrior ★5
ATK 2000 / DEF 800
Shining Sunrise [SR]
If you control no monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). You can only use each of these effects of "Super Quantum Red Layer" once per turn.
● When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can target 1 "Super Quant" card in your Graveyard; add it to your hand.
● If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 "Super Quant" monster in your Graveyard, except "Super Quantum Red Layer"; Special Summon it, but it cannot activate its effects.

Fire King Avatar Arvata

Fire King Avatar Arvata
Fire King Avatar Arvata
FIRE Beast-Warrior ★4
ATK 1800 / DEF 200
Rage of Volcano [SR]
When a monster effect is activated while this monster is on the field (Quick Effect): You can negate the activation, and if you do, destroy 1 other FIRE monster in your hand or field. If this card is destroyed and sent to the GY: You can target 1 FIRE Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast monster in your GY, except "Fire King Avatar Arvata"; Special Summon it, but it has its effects negated, also it is destroyed during the End Phase. You can only use each effect of "Fire King Avatar Arvata" once per turn.

The negation effect is generally useful for disrupting enemy plays simply by having Aravata on the field. Destroy Cerbereus from your hand to trigger its search effect.

For Arvata's floating effect, the best target would also be Cerbereus; giving you another way of triggering Cerbereus' search.

Battle Boxer Veil

Battlin Boxer Veil
Battlin Boxer Veil
FIRE Warrior ★4
ATK 0 / DEF 1800
Rage of Volcano [R]
When you take battle damage: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, gain Life Points equal to the damage you took.

Useful for stalling or to be tributed or rank 4 Xyz.

Extra Deck

Constellar Ptolemy M7
Constellar Ptolemy M7
LIGHT Machine ★6
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Infinite Ray [UR]
2 Level 6 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a "Constellar" Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material, other than "Constellar Ptolemy M7". (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If Summoned this way, the following effect cannot be activated this turn. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 monster on the field or in either player's Graveyard; return that target to the hand.

Basiltrice's removal effect is arguably superior to Ptolemy M7's, except in cases where the opponent benefits from banishing. Because of this, summoning Ptolemy M7 is mostly considered when you want to retrieve a monster from the graveyard.

Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger
Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger
WIND Dragon ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 2100
Infinite Ray [SR]
2 Level 7 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a Rank 5 or 6 Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.

Useful as a follow-up in case your rank 5/6 is locked up by something like Fiendish Chain or if you simply need a piercing effect.

Hazy Flame Basiltrice
Hazy Flame Basiltrice
FIRE Pyro ★6
ATK 2500 / DEF 1800
Rage of Volcano [SR]
2 or more Level 6 FIRE monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to target 1 monster your opponent controls or is in their Graveyard; banish that target. This card gains effects based on the number of Xyz Materials attached to it.
● 3 or more: This card gains 200 ATK and DEF for each Xyz Material attached to it.
● 4 or more: This card cannot be targeted by your opponent's card effects.
● 5: This card cannot be destroyed by card effects.

Since the deck doesn't use any Hazy Pillars to put materials into Basiltrice, going into this will only be for its monster removal effect and decent ATK.

Jinzo - Layered
Jinzo - Layered
DARK Machine ★7
ATK 2400 / DEF 1500
Energy of Gigarays [SR]
3 Level 6 monsters
You can detach 1 material from this card, then target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; take control of it until the End Phase, but it cannot activate its effects or declare an attack. If a Trap is on the field: You can Tribute 1 monster, and if you do, destroy 1 face-up card on the field. You can only use each effect of "Jinzo - Layered" once per turn.

You can activate Jinzo - Layered's effect to take control 1 monster of your opponent control that cannot be destroyed by battle or card effect, then tribute it to destroy 1 face-up card on your opponent's field.

Photon Strike Bounzer
Photon Strike Bounzer
LIGHT Warrior ★6
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Photons of Galaxy [SR]
2 Level 6 monsters
Once per turn, during either player's turn, when a monster effect is activated on your opponent's side of the field: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the effect, and if you do, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent.

Summon Strike Bounzer early game if you want to stop your opponent from making their opening combos. Negate combo starters like Noble Knight Medraut and Utopic Onomatopeia. This can throw them off pace for the rest of the Duel if they don't have any good comeback options.

Ghostrick Alucard
Ghostrick Alucard
DARK Zombie ★3
ATK 1800 / DEF 1600
Photons of Galaxy [SR]
2 Level 3 monsters
Monsters your opponent controls cannot target face-up "Ghostrick" monsters, or any face-down Defense Position monsters, for attacks, except this one. You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Set card your opponent controls; destroy that target. You can only use this effect of "Ghostrick Alucard" once per turn. If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 other "Ghostrick" card in your Graveyard; add that target to your hand.

The only one of Alucard's effects you can use in this Deck is its removal effect. Summon Alucard to get rid of an opponent's set card, usually their backrow.

Digital Bug Rhinosebus
Digital Bug Rhinosebus
LIGHT Insect ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 2200
Infinite Ray [R]
2 or more Level 7 LIGHT Insect-Type monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by detaching 2 Xyz Materials from a Rank 5 or 6 Insect-Type Xyz Monster you control, then using that Xyz Monster as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; destroy the face-up monster(s) your opponent controls with the highest DEF (all, if tied).

Has a non-targeting monster removal and a piercing effect on a monster with high ATK. Since this can only be special summoned by ranking up from Exa-Beetle, this will only have 1 use, so you'll have to carefully choose when to use it.

This is oftentimes the first monster you want to focus on if you can make a rank 6 since it can help disrupt your opponent and potentially protects your monsters.

Inzektor Exa-Beetle
Inzektor Exa-Beetle
DARK Insect ★6
ATK 1000 / DEF 1000
Darkness Gimmick [R]
2 Level 6 monsters
When this card is Xyz Summoned: You can target 1 monster in either player's Graveyard; equip that target to this card. This card gains ATK and DEF equal to half the original ATK and DEF of the monster equipped by this effect. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to target 1 face-up card on each side of the field; send those targets to the Graveyard.

Mainly to be used to rank up into Rhinosebus. Keep in mind that going out of your Hazy monsters into something like this means that it can be targeted so it can be a risky play, but it can also end up forcing your opponent to use something to stop it.

Skills

Prescience
You can view the top card of both players' Decks until the end of the 5th turn.
Ishizu Ishtar
Ishizu Ishtar

Weaknesses

  • Drowning Mirror Force and Wall of Disruption can punish you for swarming the field and set you back completely. You can “play around” some of these Battle Traps by switching one of your monsters into Defense Position and/or activating Hazy Flame Mantikor’s effect. Hey, Trunade! and Cosmic Cyclone are arguably your best options when it comes to backrow removal.

  • Floodgate Trap Hole can be used to flip Hazy Flame Peryton face-down and prevent you from activating its effect. If you do have Hey, Trunade! available, you might want to start your turn by returning to your opponent’s hand all of their Set Spell/Trap Cards.

  • Your monsters cannot be targeted by card effects, but they can still be Tributed to Summon Lava Golem. You do have a way to get rid of this Level 8 Fiend-Type monster (Tributing it).

Other Cards Option

The Blazing Mars

The Blazing Mars
The Blazing Mars
FIRE Pyro ★8
ATK 2600 / DEF 2200
D.D. Castle: Assault [UR]
While this card is in your hand or Graveyard: You can banish 3 other monsters from your Graveyard; Special Summon this card, also you cannot Special Summon other monsters for the rest of this turn. During your Main Phase 1: You can send all other monsters you control to the Graveyard; inflict 250 damage to your opponent for each monster sent to the Graveyard. You can only use each effect of "The Blazing Mars" once per turn.

Works good with Beatrice by milling it from Deck to the Graveyard which can allows Mars special summoned by banishing three other monsters. It's second effect mostly activate when your opponent's Life Points is below 500.

Dragon Ice

Dragon Ice
Dragon Ice
WATER Dragon ★5
ATK 1800 / DEF 2200
Visions of Ice [SR]
When your opponent Special Summons a monster (except during the Damage Step): You can discard 1 card; Special Summon this card from your hand or Graveyard. There can only be 1 "Dragon Ice" on the field.

Work well in turn 0 when your opponent's turn special summon monsters and you can special summon this card from your hand or Graveyard for next Tribute Summon of Hazy Flame monsters or protection.

Other Burning Abyss

Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
DARK Fiend ★3
ATK 1600 / DEF 1200
Fantastic Arc [SR]
If you control a monster that is not a "Burning Abyss" monster, destroy this card. You can only use 1 of these effects of "Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss" per turn, and only once that turn.

● If you control no Spell/Trap Cards: You can Special Summon this card from your hand.
● If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 "Burning Abyss" monster in your Graveyard, except "Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss"; Special Summon it.
Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss
Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss
DARK Fiend ★3
ATK 1000 / DEF 2500
Fantastic Arc [UR]
2 Level 3 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card and choose a number from 1 to 3, then send that many cards from the top of your Deck to the Graveyard; until the end of this turn, this card gains 500 ATK for each card sent to the Graveyard this way. If this card attacks, it is changed to Defense Position at the end of the Battle Phase. If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 "Burning Abyss" card in your Graveyard, except this card; add it to your hand.

The main monster to make with the BA monsters but mainly used to Xyz Summon Beatrice in this case. His sent to grave effect lets him recover a BA from the grave, and it's not limited to once per turn.

Cope. I beat a Lunalight with my Hazy deck, he thought he had me when he summoned his Saber Dancer and I had no backrow but he got Ebola'd.

Better more copy of hydra, with atleast 2 hydra in the materiales, you get 4-5 materials for ballstrice

I ran several builds yesterday: The most successful ones were with labyrinth builder and aroma strategy

With labyrinth you never brick but you can run spell/traps maybe 3 pillars at most. Here I arvata really shines as both a turn 1 play and to keep control later on (arvata->destroy cerberus = free negate and 1 search)

With aroma strategy I bricked more than I'd have liked but at least I get to run karmas and floodgates
Candend
Lol. Too much s/t and the skill is beatdown. Aroma strategy is the best skill if you want to put that many s/t. Hazy pillar and the rest hazy monster and other fire monster. Fortune fairy en is also good choice in this deck. Destroy any set card either s/t or set monster and can be special summoned if you draw her.

Isn't this just worst monarch? Also, since this deck's all about tribute summons, why did no one recommend this deck with Vassals when it was relevant?

Most of them used to keep one or more vassals in their hazy flame deck, especially the fire one.
