Rating-/10

Pros

  • Can increase its attack and it will last until it's destroyed.
  • Synergy with Red-Eyes B. Dragon because of Red-Eyes Spirit, or from its own second effect.
  • Able to special summon normal Dragon-type monsters from either player's graveyard.

Cons

  • Low defense and base attack is 1700. There are already several monsters with higher attack.
  • Requires a discard of a normal dragon-type monster to increase attack..
  • Second effect only works if it's destroyed by your opponent's card effect.

Tips, related cards, skills

  • Activate this card's effect by sending Red-Eyes B. Dragon from your hand to the graveyard so you can activate Red-Eyes Spirit. You will have 2 monsters with 2,000 attack+.
  • If you have a lot of normal dragon-type monster, or any other normal monster, you can use Symbols of Duty to special summon other monsters from either player's graveyard.

Red-Eyes Spirit

Use the effect of Vanguard of the Dragon to send a Red-Eyes monster from your hand to the graveyard, then special summon it using this card.

I like how the synergy section doesn't even mention the incredible synergy with Kidmodo dragon... So you can simply summon a 4* Monster with 2000 ATK plus a Blue/Red Eyes for free.

yeah but you can not attack that turn thanks for kidmodo's effect

Instead of Kidmodo Dragon, just send the Blue Eyes off to the graveyard, and then use a Birthright trap card and you're good.

You do realise that he can just choose to not activate the effect and just beat this sht up with attack.

if you have a 3000 atk BEWD beside him he will have to activate his effect

Poor man's Snipe Hunter, I can still find people adding this into blue-eyes deck.

Both effects are different

Similar discard cost, though. That was the entire point, they're not used for the effect, but the cost, to dump Dragons into the Graveyard.

Why did this card second effect don't activate with the Cyber Angel Dakini effect? Both of them use the term "send" so, "• Second effect only works if it's destroyed by your opponent's card effect." is totally BS.
Anyone had this bug?

V. IRUS Reply
i dont think its a bug. just read dakinis effect. it says: "You can make your opponent send 1 monster they control to the Graveyard (their choice)."
if you now send your vanguard to the grave its actually not by dakinis effect, its "your choice" that sends it to the grave. so, no effect activation.

It should be an advantage, because the card is being sent to the graveyard anyway by the opponent's card effect. So if I choose to send the Vanguard his effect should activate. Why the hell it's not by Dakinis effect? Something had to give me the "choice" to destroy my monsters right, and it's an effect of a card.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Its effect doesn't trigger because Dakini forced YOU to send it to the graveyard. Dakini's effect does not target any monster, it targets the player (this is what makes Dakini so scary).
<< Anonymous

because Vanguard isn't getting destroyed and sent to the graveyard by Dakini it's getting put in the graveyard by your choice.

So my vanguard dragon got destroyed by one of these new alien card effects but it's said I missed my chance to activate its effect
<< Anonymous(Flow)
Aquablast Reply
It probably happened in a chain or something. Vanguard's destruction needs to be the last thing resolved (i.e. first in chain or no chains at all). If not, another effect would take place before you can use Vanguard's effect, causing you to miss your activation chance... or something like that.

Why dragon cards is so bad, worst effects ob SR , UR

I honestly need 2 more of these. Anyone think the card traider will bring this card back. looks unlikely with the new crystal beast and gen decks running amuck.

I've gotten 3 from the card trader over a period of about 1 week -- I just checked 2/3 of the intervals each day and I got lucky enough.

Good luck.

This card just isn't good, (not in the way you'd wish,) for 1 simple reason; it relies on your opponent playing a certain way. They don't HAVE to remove this card by an effect, and even if they do, all they have to do is make it Chain Link 2, and Vanguard will miss its timing. It's bad deckbuilding to rely on your opponent to do specific things, unless those things aren't overly specific, but inherently fundamental to basic gameplay.

That said, the "right" way to play this card is with Kaiba's Peak Performance. Don't waste advantage discarding as its low defense is a real liability with Enemy Controller running rampant in every deck. Instead, you should take advantage of the added difficulty your opponent faces in removing this card by effect, support with cards like Mirror Wall/WoD and Mirage Dragon when they try to ATK over.

4-Starred Ladybug destroyed it and the effect didn't work. What a load of crap

missed activation timing? wtf it's been 2 times already that this happens, first time i activated majesty of blue eyes in response to eliminating the league (targeting this card), the second time I activated it's effect to send Blue eyes to my graveyard, attacked a monster and opponent michizured my dragon, both times I couldn't summon blue eyes? why?
