Here are some of the monsters you can Special Summon when you tribute Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon. Monsters like Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon and Stardust Spark Dragon with self protection effects will allow them to survive past the End Phase.

Good question.
I did try Solid dragon's effect before and it doesn't always work. When your opponent activates a card's effect like Kiteroid or Gravekeeper's guard it doesn't prompt you to shuffle Solid dragon.
I guess Konami bugged Solid dragon on purpose so that you buy this new Blue-eyes instead.
