Overview

Your main priority is to get Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8 out as soon as possible. After that you can control your opponent's moves with cards such as Sergeant Electro while protecting yourself. Use Beatdown! to power up your monsters and help Horus level up.

Level Up!

Your goal is to get Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8 out as quickly as possible. You can do this by:

  • Having the lower level Horus monsters special summon their stronger versions through their own effects. This might be kind of slow since you need to destroy a monster your opponent controls with your Horus, then wait till the end phase to special summon it's next form.
  • You could also use Level Up! on your horus to immediately summon it's stronger version. This can work on Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6 to special summon Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8, because even though Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6 is immune to spell effects he can be used as cost for them.

Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV4 and Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6 needs to destroy an opponent's monster before they can level up during the end phase. Mirror Wall can help you a lot, activate it when your opponent declares attack on your attack position Horus, then during the next end phase you can special summon the upgraded version of your current Horus. Use Floodgate Trap Hole when your opponent summons a powerful monster, it will then be stuck in face-down defense position unless an effect changes it's position. This provides an excellent opportunity for your Horus to get a free kill.

With Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8 on the field, you are now practically safe from any spells your opponent might activate as you can immediately negate them. For added control summon Sergeant Electro and pin down your opponent's set spell/trap cards. This will help prevent your Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8 from being hit by a Mirror Wall or a Security Orb.

Dodge effects

Interdimensional Matter Transporter
Interdimensional Matter Transport

After you deal with your opponent's backrow the only threat that remains are monster effects. Effects of monsters like Gale Lizard and Hane-Hane can return you Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8 back to hand, so use Interdimensional Matter Transporter to dodge these effects.

Level Down!?		Sometimes Horus the Black Flame Dragon can do things that LV8 can't. Can also be used to gain an extra attack during your battle phase.

Gamushara		Punishes your opponent for attacking your defense position Horus, and helps horus destroy a monster so that he can level up.

The best skill for the Horus deck is 3 Star Demotion (3SD)

Two copies of Horus LV 6 is all this Deck needs. Running 3 is simply asking to screw yourself over on your opening hands. This is already inevitable with just 2 copies, 3 is a nightmare. I also think Enemy Controller does exactly what Floodgate Trap Hole is supposed to be doing and is a far cheaper alternative. Not to mention Floodgate Trap Hole is yet another dead topdeck whereas Enemy Controller isn't.

Restart is a better Skill than Beatdown, but Mind Scan works well too with the Sergeant Electros and will tell you if you're running into a Yomi Ship/Exploder Dragon or not. Makes for safer leveling up. Keeping the LP up can sometimes be challenging though, but it's all about getting an early lead with this kind of Deck imo.

I want to play this deck but in ranked it's just too slow for consistent wins. As F2P I feel like toon barrel and even kaibaman are safer bets

Well ofcourse Horus isn't top meta. Any Deck that must run a multitude of Monsters that are horrible to have in your opening hand will suffer this faith.

Horus Decks are for those who want to feel the joy of having 1 big badass boss Monster carrying their Duels to victory.

Hey guys, I've been climbing with this deck for a while with Mirage Dragon but I see all the people on Youtube with Sergeant Electro. Which one is better for the deck overall? And is Level Up better or is using the effect of Horus Lvl 4 and Lvl 6 better?

Sergeant Electro is better because Mirage Dragon does not handle traps that can be activated during your main phase, such as Floodgate for example, and also forces them to use face down Enemy Controller or Super Rush Headlong spells.

Hey, just thought it would be beneficial to let everyone know i made it to plat 1 with genex, i slept on genex for way too long. combined with some tech cards my deck has been virtually unstoppable

Can someone explain to me why Horus LV 6 was able to be taken to my opponents side of the field once they tributed a monster (the used enemy controller)? My Horus Card was in defense mode thanks to windstorm

Hey! Just looking for some thoughts/feedback on my version of the deck.
I’ve gone for the ‘tank’ sort of style to nullify potential mirror walls when anti magic arrows isn’t around.
The rest is all pretty self explanatory.

Let's say that you're relying on the topdeck to draw the one Vanguard that you have in your deck. Your only win-con is to get that one Vanguard, so you have to rely on drawing it during your draw phase. Would you rather have a 1/20 chance of drawing the Vanguard? Or would you rather have a 1/16 chance of drawing it? Less cards means that you have a higher chance of drawing cards you need.

If I were you, I'd take out the two Riryoku's, the double Anti-Magic Arrows, and the Flamvell and add in another Metalmorph.
