Hieratic Dragon: deck recipe [June 25]

Duel Links Hieratic Dragon deck, Hieratic Dragon in the current meta, how to use.
update 25/06/2022

Overview

Hieratics are Dragon monsters that can special summon a normal monster from hand, deck, or grave when tributed. The commonly used Hieratics are level 6, which can lead to the level 6 XYZ, Atum, to special summon any Dragon monster from the deck. When used together with Aether, this lets the deck get a quick and easy monster removal, and can later be followed up with another rank 6 XYZ.

How to Use

Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning

Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
LIGHT Warrior ★8
ATK 3000 / DEF 2500
Selection Box Vol.05 [UR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard. Once per turn, you can activate 1 of these effects.

● Target 1 monster on the field; banish that target face-up. This card cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.
● If this attacking card destroys an opponent's monster by battle, after damage calculation: It can make a second attack in a row.

Easily special summonable in this deck since there are LIGHT (Hieratic Dragons) and DARK (Labradorite Dragon). Its effect is pretty decent for either monster removal or as an OTK option.

Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit

Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit
Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit
LIGHT Dragon ★6
ATK 2100 / DEF 1400
Infinite Ray [SR]
If your opponent controls a monster and you control no monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). This card cannot attack during the turn it is Special Summoned this way. When this card is Tributed: Special Summon 1 Dragon-Type Normal Monster from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard, also make its ATK and DEF 0.

Tefnuit's value is mostly due to being one the few Hieratic monster you can put on the field without tribute. Run a couple of copies to start your plays.

When it's tributed, special summon Labradorite Dragon since it's the only normal monster in the deck.

Hieratic Dragon of Su

Hieratic Dragon of Su
Hieratic Dragon of Su
LIGHT Dragon ★6
ATK 2200 / DEF 1000
The White Dragon of Legend [R]
You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by Tributing 1 "Hieratic" monster. Once per turn: You can Tribute 1 "Hieratic" monster, except this card, from your hand or your side of the field, to target 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; destroy that target. When this card is Tributed: Special Summon 1 Dragon-Type Normal Monster from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard, and make its ATK and DEF 0.

Tribute Tefnuit or Eset to summon Su. The tributed monster's effect will then activate to Special Summon a normal monster. You can then use Su's backrow removal effect before making a Rank-6 Xyz.

Hieratic Dragon of Eset

Hieratic Dragon of Eset
Hieratic Dragon of Eset
LIGHT Dragon ★5
ATK 1900 / DEF 1200
The White Dragon of Legend [R]
You can Normal Summon this card without Tributing, but its original ATK becomes 1000. Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up Dragon-Type Normal Monster on the field; the Levels of all face-up "Hieratic" monsters currently on the field become the Level of that monster, until the End Phase. When this card is Tributed: Special Summon 1 Dragon-Type Normal Monster from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard, and make its ATK and DEF 0.

Eset and Tefnuit are used for starting your combos. While Tefnuit does not use up your Normal Summon, the disadvantage is you can only summon it under certain conditions. In most situations, Eset is a much more reliable combo starter.

Eset's second effect makes it a very effective Xyz enabler. Having your face-up Hieratics copy the level of the level 6 normal monster will allow you to access the much wider Rank-6 Xyz pool.

Labradorite Dragon

Labradorite Dragon
Labradorite Dragon
DARK Dragon ★6
ATK 0 / DEF 2400
Infinite Ray [R]
The ancients compared this prized creature to moonlight rippling across water. A bringer of harmony, reminder of past glories, able to soothe the hearts of even the most ambitious men.

Mainly to be used for the Hieratic Dragons to have a monster that they can summon, but this is also a tuner so you can make some synchro plays.

Since the ATK and DEF of the normal monster special summoned will be set to 0, the normal monster that you use in the deck can be any other Dragon monster. The important thing is that the monster is level 6 so that it helps with XYZ summoning Atum.

Searcher

Hieratic Seal of Convocation
Hieratic Seal of Convocation
Normal Spell
Infinite Ray [SR]
Add 1 "Hieratic" monster from your Deck to your hand.

Adds much more consistency to the deck by searching any Hieratic monster. Most of the time you'll be using this to fetch Tefnuit or Eset. If you already have them on hand, you can opt to search Su or Nebthet for a combo piece.

Hieratic Seal of Supremacy

Hieratic Seal of Supremacy
Hieratic Seal of Supremacy
Normal Spell
Valiant Souls [N]
The White Dragon of Legend [N]
Special Summon 1 "Hieratic" monster from your hand.

Able to special summon Hieratic Monster from your Hand.

Extra Deck

Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon
Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon
FIRE Dragon ★7
ATK 2500 / DEF 2000
Force of Infinity [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

When this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 card in your Pendulum Zone; Special Summon it, also this card cannot attack for the rest of this turn. You can only use this effect of "Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon" once per turn. Monsters in your opponent's possession cannot activate their effects during the Battle Phase.

Mainly to disable/prevent monster effects during your battle phase, which can prevent commonly used handtraps that often stalls the duel.

Assault Blackwing - Onimaru the Divine Thunder
Assault Blackwing - Onimaru the Divine Thunder
DARK Winged Beast ★12
ATK 3000 / DEF 2000
Aerial Assault [R]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
If this card is Synchro Summoned using a "Blackwing" monster as Material, it is treated as a Tuner while face-up on the field. Cannot be destroyed by card effects. You can target 1 "Blackwing" monster in your Graveyard; this card's Level becomes the same as that monster's. You can only use this effect of "Assault Blackwing - Onimaru the Divine Thunder" once per Duel. If this card that was Synchro Summoned using only Synchro Monsters attacks, this card gains 3000 ATK during the Damage Step only.

Onimaru can easily be made with Labradorite Dragon for a 3000 ATK beater immune to effect destruction.

Constellar Ptolemy M7
Constellar Ptolemy M7
LIGHT Machine ★6
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Infinite Ray [UR]
2 Level 6 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a "Constellar" Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material, other than "Constellar Ptolemy M7". (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If Summoned this way, the following effect cannot be activated this turn. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 monster on the field or in either player's Graveyard; return that target to the hand.

Ptolemy M7's effect is simple yet extremely versatile. The most obvious use is to get rid of an opponent's boss monster from the field. But the ability to recover monsters from the graveyard gives it a lot more versatility. With this, you can essentially recover any monster in your graveyard. For example, retrieve Eset to start a new Xyz combo.

Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger
Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger
WIND Dragon ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 2100
Infinite Ray [SR]
2 Level 7 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a Rank 5 or 6 Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.

This can be considered a core card in the deck since you'll want to go into this after using Atum's effect. This lets you attack right away to help secure some games quickly, instead of giving your opponent another turn to make a comeback.

Hieratic Dragon King of Atum
Hieratic Dragon King of Atum
LIGHT Dragon ★6
ATK 2400 / DEF 2100
Infinite Ray [SR]
2 Level 6 Dragon-Type monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Special Summon 1 Dragon-Type monster from your Deck, and make its ATK and DEF 0. This card cannot attack during the turn you activate this effect.

Atum is a great board extender that can fetch any of the Hieratics out of your deck. The best part is the Special Summoned monster's effect is not negated, so you can special summon Aether to banish a monster or any other Hieratics for further follow up.

Atum's effect is also not a hard once per turn, which means that if you can go into another Atum, you can special summon another Aether for another banish on the same turn.

Photon Strike Bounzer
Photon Strike Bounzer
LIGHT Warrior ★6
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Photons of Galaxy [SR]
2 Level 6 monsters
Once per turn, during either player's turn, when a monster effect is activated on your opponent's side of the field: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the effect, and if you do, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent.

Negating enemy monster effects is great for disrupting their plays, especially since most combos involve the use of a monster effect. An example is negating Noble Knight Medraut, Utopic Onomatopeia, etc.

The burn damage upon negation is also quite a significant amount. However, the negation effect does not destroy the negated monster, so this can be dangerous against powerful monsters like Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon.

Digital Bug Rhinosebus
Digital Bug Rhinosebus
LIGHT Insect ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 2200
Infinite Ray [R]
2 or more Level 7 LIGHT Insect-Type monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by detaching 2 Xyz Materials from a Rank 5 or 6 Insect-Type Xyz Monster you control, then using that Xyz Monster as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; destroy the face-up monster(s) your opponent controls with the highest DEF (all, if tied).

Rhinosebus offers a non targeting quick effect monster removal. It's a good card to consider if you aren't using any other semi limited cards. A big downside to this is that you'll mostly only be able to special summon this by using Exa-Beetle, which means that you essentially need 2 extra deck slots to bring Rhinosebus.

Inzektor Exa-Beetle
Inzektor Exa-Beetle
DARK Insect ★6
ATK 1000 / DEF 1000
Darkness Gimmick [R]
2 Level 6 monsters
When this card is Xyz Summoned: You can target 1 monster in either player's Graveyard; equip that target to this card. This card gains ATK and DEF equal to half the original ATK and DEF of the monster equipped by this effect. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to target 1 face-up card on each side of the field; send those targets to the Graveyard.

It's a level 6 XYZ that's often used to simply go into Rhinosebus. Its own effect is definitely not bad, but it will leave you with just a 1000 ATK monster on the field after using its effect, and also can't be used to become Rhinosebus since it needs 2 materials.

Other Useful Cards

Legendary Maju Garzett

Legendary Maju Garzett
Legendary Maju Garzett
DARK Fiend ★8
ATK 0 / DEF 0
Rise of the Yubel - Soul Polymerization [SR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by Tributing all monsters you control, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. This card's ATK becomes the combined original ATK of the Tributed monsters. If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.

Maju Garzett comboed with a Hieratic monster can let easily make a Rank-8, or if you want a more unique monster summon Bishbaalkin. Special Summon Tefnuit and tribute it to Special Sumon Maju Garzett. Tefnuit then Special Summons Dragon Core Hexer, which you can pair with Maju Garzett.

You can also use Maju Garzett as a huge beater. Hieratics Special Summon powerful Dragons and reduce their ATK to 0, but Maju Garzett gets the original ATKs of the tributed monsters so this won't matter. Effectively, Maju Garzett becomes a huge beater you can summon with minimal cost.

Hieratic Dragon of Gebeb

Hieratic Dragon of Gebeb
Hieratic Dragon of Gebeb
LIGHT Dragon ★4
ATK 1800 / DEF 400
The White Dragon of Legend [R]
When this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: Special Summon 1 Dragon-Type Normal Monster from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard, and make its ATK and DEF 0. When this card is Tributed: Special Summon 1 "Hieratic" Normal Monster from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard.

Decent option if you need another Hieratic monster in the deck. Its main effect will rarely be useful, but it's a level 4 monster that can be easily summoned so you can tribute it away.

Hieratic Dragon of Nebthet

Hieratic Dragon of Nebthet
Hieratic Dragon of Nebthet
LIGHT Dragon ★5
ATK 2000 / DEF 1600
The White Dragon of Legend [R]
You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by Tributing 1 "Hieratic" monster. Once per turn: You can Tribute 1 "Hieratic" monster, except this card, from your hand or your side of the field, to target 1 monster your opponent controls; destroy that target. When this card is Tributed: Special Summon 1 Dragon-Type Normal Monster from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard, and make its ATK and DEF 0.

Nebthet is similar to Hieratic Dragon of Su, the only differences is that it’s a Level 5 monster and its effect can destroy a monster on the opponent’s side of the field instead of a Spell/Trap Card. Between Nebthet and Su, the deck already has a decent amount of removal.

Similar to Su, summoning Nebthet is usually a part of your combo to make an Xyz play. But because of Nebthet's level, you pair it with Curse of Dragon to make a Rank-5.

Pendulum Support

Archfiend Eccentrick
Archfiend Eccentrick
LIGHT Fiend ★3
ATK 800 / DEF 1000
Selection Box Vol.01 Super Mini [UR]
Pendulum Effect
You can target 1 other Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy both it and this card. You can only use this effect of "Archfiend Eccentrick" once per turn.

Monster Effect
You can Tribute this card, then target 1 monster on the field; destroy it. You can only use this effect of "Archfiend Eccentrick" once per turn.

It's a versatile pendulum card that can be used to destroy a spell/trap, a monster, or to pendulum summon together with Aether to special summon level 5 or 6 monsters.

Since the other monsters are below level 7, having Eccentrick means that you can take advantage of it at almost any point.

Aether, the Evil Empowering Dragon
Aether, the Evil Empowering Dragon
DARK Dragon ★6
ATK 2300 / DEF 1600
Selection Box Vol.01 Super Mini [SR]
Pendulum Effect
Once per turn: You can banish 1 "Empowered Warrior" monster from your Graveyard, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it.

Monster Effect
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can target 1 monster on the field; banish it.

This card is special summonable through Atum's effect. Its attack will be 0, but the effect will still activate.

If you have another level 6 on the field, you can XYZ with the other Hieratic Dragon to make another Atum, which can then use its effect as well to special summon another Aether for 2 different monster banish per turn.

Defensive Options

The deck can brick if you're unlucky enough not to draw a single Tefnuit, Eset, or anything to fetch them. The deck also has a hard time recovering from a field wipe without any of their combo starters, also putting you in a bad spot. Due to this, it would be good to run some defensive options like Sphere Kuriboh, Battlin' Boxer Veil, and Kiteroid.

Sphere Kuriboh
Sphere Kuriboh
DARK Fiend ★1
ATK 300 / DEF 200
The Ultimate Rising [UR]
Selection Box Vol. 01 [UR]
When an opponent's monster declares an attack: You can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard; change the attacking monster to Defense Position. When you Ritual Summon a monster, you can banish this card from your Graveyard as 1 of the monsters required for the Ritual Summon.
Kiteroid
Kiteroid
WIND Machine ★1
ATK 200 / DEF 400
Card Trader [SR]
Activate when you discard this card from your hand during damage calculation after a direct attack. Any Battle Damage you would receive from that direct attack becomes 0. Only once, if you remove this card from the game when it is in your Graveyard, any Battle Damage you would receive from a direct attack becomes 0.
Battlin Boxer Veil
Battlin Boxer Veil
FIRE Warrior ★4
ATK 0 / DEF 1800
Rage of Volcano [R]
When you take battle damage: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, gain Life Points equal to the damage you took.

Tuners

If you want to take advantage of certain synchro monsters that are level 6, 7, or 8, then you can bring some of these tuners to have more of a follow up using different monsters.

Flamvell Guard
Flamvell Guard
FIRE Dragon ★1
ATK 100 / DEF 2000
Absolute Inferno [SR]
A Flamvell guardian who commands fire with his will. His magma-hot barrier protects his troops from intruders.
Guardragon Justicia
Guardragon Justicia
WATER Dragon ★2
ATK 0 / DEF 2100
Blazing Rose [N]
The fate of the World depends on the Guardragons, born from the World Legacy.

It works pretty easy. Tbh I've added star eater because of how often it can come up that you have labradorite dragon and curse of dragon on the field.

LordGuitchi Reply
I'm just saying Curse of Dragon doesn't offer much utility. Volcasaurus only offers some mediocre burn effect that needs a target, and Star Eater is pretty much a beatstick. I'd rather go with Hieratic Seal and Heliopolis instead. Or even Core Hexer and Bishbaalkin

Volcasaurus can burn then xyz into Gaia, can be used for OTK.

It isn't going to be easy to OTK with a targeting nerfed burn effect and a 2600 atk beatstick, though

Very. Releasing a Hieratic for its second effect triggers their effects to search a monster right from the deck and make their attack 0. Considering Tefnuit gives access to one more summon in addition to the normal summon, this allows for taking an opponent’s monster, overlaying it for an Xyz summon for permanent removal, and still get one more monster on the field. It’s perfect.

It is annoying to play against but it does offer an answer to the Blue Eyes completely dominance coming with the new structure. Their monsters are prime targets for Econ take and overlaying and synchroing by Hieraric players.

No convocation means often brick.

Dragonic Tactics serves no purpose with only 1 level 8 and it is among the only 2 vanilla. Monster Gate would have work better imo.

2nd turn : Only Tefnuit, Eset & Fiendish is playable.
1st turn : Only Eset & Fiendish is playable

Other cards is just dead without the above.

Yep, they're basically the same but banishing is usually better than destroying. Plus, you only want to tribute the Hieratic monsters anyway.

I have been using a Hieratic deck on Chazz with his Dragonic Fusion skill. Use the continuous trap Hieratic Seal From The Ashes to send 5 Hieratics to your graveyard and if you don't draw Dragon's Mirror normally, take at least 1800 damage to use the skill. You can also combine this with Future Fusion and a second Five-Headed Dragon in your extra deck and send 5 Hieratic monsters to the GY then use Dragon's Mirror to summon 2 FHD in one turn.

I recently started using this deck and I have a few comments for anyone else that might want to.

1. Change up the normal monsters. You REALLY only need one galaxy serpent. You’ll be constantly using it from the deck and graveyard and it doesn’t usually stay on the field long enough to be banished. Any normal monster in your hand is a waste of a draw. Also I highly recommend replacing red eyes with “hyozanryu”. This thing is a much more useful imo if you get it onto the field thanks to its fat 2800 defense protecting it from being destroyed by anki. (It also has a ton of synergy with the next skill). I also recommend adding in the stupid level 8 monster. It doesn’t help you synchro and it has no stats BUT it is an easy extra tribute to pop a monster or backrow. In addition it can be tributed to special summoned an additional Su or Nebthet helping lead to an otk. It also has some synergy with the next suggestion.

2. Consider Mokuba’s Skill “monstermorph devolution” or the evolution version. After you lose 1500 hp these skills are absolutely insane. If you’re using devolution you can tribute your hyozanryu with no stats to get a fresh Su onto the field from the deck. You can also tribute the level 8 to get a 2800 defense monster to protect your lifepoints or for synchro if needed. Evolution is awesome because you can pretty much tribute Eset to get Su on the field, bring out galaxy, morph into hyozanryu and then go into azure eyes.

3. For the lord’s sake please use Enemy controller with this deck. There’s so much fodder with it to tribute to take monsters. I can’t even tell you how many games this has won me.

Honestly this might be the first and only time i pay for a deck in duel links. Let alone the potential, I personally love the hieratic archetype it was a fun deck and a powerhouse. The Galactic Overlord box was the first and only box i bought as well so it will be worth it for me.
