Pros

  • This card returns 2 cards from your hand to the deck and let you draw 2 cards which might help you get the card that you needed.
  • It lets you draw 1 card.

Cons

  • Has 0 attack and very low defense which makes it unreliable in battle and easy target.
  • This card needs to be destroyed for you to draw a card.

Tips

  • If you want to summon it, you can get it destroyed by battle without taking damage by using Kuriboh.
  • Cards like Covering Fire, or Staunch Defender can be good to protect and deal some damage if you have another monster with high attack. Otherwise, use any defensive cards like Windstorm of Etaqua, or Curse of Anubis.
  • If you don't plan on summoning it for the effect, you can use Unified Front and target your opponent's attacking monster. This can be used during damage step.

Switch control

Normal summon Vortex Trooper then use these cards to give its control to your opponent. You can then attack it with your other monster which enables you to deal damage and draw a card at the same time.

Deck Thinning

These cards can work together with Vortex Trooper to thin out your deck.

  • Use Thunder Dragon's effect to get 2 copies of it from your deck, then summon Vortex Trooper and include 1 copy of Thunder Dragon from your hand to be returned to your deck. If you're lucky to not draw the Thunder Dragon that you returned to your deck, you can then use the effect of the remaining Thunder Dragon from your hand to get the copy that you put back in your deck.
  • Activate Chain Destruction when you normal summon Vortex Trooper. The copies of Vortex Trooper from your hand and deck will be destroyed which lets you draw a number of cards depending on the number of destroyed Vortex Trooper. You'll have a total of 4 cards removed from your deck if you have both copies in it.

Instant Draw

Fire King Island and Yaksha can destroy cards from your field or hand. This means that you can draw a card right away by destroying it from your hand, or summon first before destroying it.

In the official rulings, two monsters with 0 attack will not destroy each other in battle.

I honestly velieve this card is amazing in firekings nephtys. The fact that it os an engine that unbricks itself and reliably goes +1 is actually unheard of. Let's take an example with another plussin engine, the venus engine. It has a reasonable cap at +1, has a high chance to brick with multiple shine balls in hand and has not very much power. The new fireking engine can of course brick as well but since this deck has a way more diversified search potential with card of soul,pathfinder, island and now trooper makes the deck less reliant on restart and leaning more towards beatdown which will make the deck tier 0 in my opinion

Tier 0 is deck with 50% play rate in the meta. For duel link, I think we could count deck percent of ppl reach kog for that, but I dont think anyone could do this survey.

Going by textbook its >65%. Anyway tier 0 is a deck that is so OP it basically have no real counter to the point of people can only run that very same deck to possibly win(reach KoG in this game). The rest are just deck that tried to counter it(and fail) and memer. Nephtys with this card definitely won't reach that. Its still slow, weak to grave removal, have hard time against real BIG mons, etc

Summon this monster, then protect it with Forgotten Temple of the Deep.

Combo this with Winged Tortoris to maintain field presence.

Why the hell are you want to protect this card when it replaces itself when destroyed. Skystarray already exist and nobody used that combo

Because otherwise you've got a big fat 0 attack between your enemy and your life points. At least with Forgotten Temple it will return in defense position.

Or you can just SRH to protect it + destroy the opponent monster and change it to defense on your next turn instead of using such roundabout and inneficient method
