Rikka: deck recipe [Nov 5]

Duel Links Rikka deck, Fire King deck in the meta, how to play Fire King deck.
update 05/11/2021

Overview

Rikka Fairies are plant-type monsters that play around tributing, exchanging one monster into another with ease. Together with a searcher spell + Rikka Flurries, they can swarm the field pretty easily and get a monster removal in the process. This ultimately leads them to strong boss monsters from the extra deck or Tytannial for some targeting protection.

How to Play

Tytannial, Princess of Camellias

Tytannial, Princess of Camellias
Tytannial, Princess of Camellias
WIND Plant ★8
ATK 2800 / DEF 2600
Blazing Rose [SR]
During either player's turn, when a card or effect that targets a card(s) on the field is activated: You can Tribute 1 face-up Plant-Type monster; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it.

This Deck has pretty low average ATK so adding in Tytannial gives you a stronger monster, that also protects you from targeting effects. You'll put Tytannial on the field with Snowdrop's effect. Most of the time, you won't have any choice but to tribute Tytannial herself as cost. In this case you can revive her with Kanzashi's effect immediately after being tributed, in which she becomes a beater with no effect.

Rikka Monsters

Snowdrop the Rikka Fairy
Snowdrop the Rikka Fairy
WATER Plant ★8
ATK 1200 / DEF 2600
Antinomic Theory [UR]
You can Tribute 1 Plant monster; Special Summon both this card and 1 other Plant monster from your hand, also you cannot Special Summon for the rest of this turn, except Plant monsters. You can target 1 Plant monster you control; all Plant monsters you currently control become that monster's Level until the end of this turn. You can only use each effect of "Snowdrop the Rikka Fairy" once per turn.

Snowdrop is an Xyz enabler; Special Summon her along with a Rikka monster to make a Rank-6 Plant Xyz. Alternatively, if you just need a beater on board Tytannial is a good choice to Special Summon with Snowdrop.

Mudan the Rikka Fairy
Mudan the Rikka Fairy
WATER Plant ★6
ATK 1000 / DEF 2400
Antinomic Theory [SR]
You can Tribute 1 Plant monster; Special Summon this card from your hand. If this card is Normal Summoned, or Special Summoned by the effect of a Plant monster: You can add 1 "Rikka" Spell/Trap from your Deck to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Mudan the Rikka Fairy" once per turn.

Mudan is a combo piece intended to get you into your Snowdrop combo. Early game, you should Special Summon Mudan to fetch Glamour. If you already have Glamour then Flurries is your next priority.

Erica the Rikka Fairy
Erica the Rikka Fairy
WATER Plant ★6
ATK 2400 / DEF 1000
Antinomic Theory [R]
When an attack is declared involving another Plant monster you control: You can Tribute this card from your hand or face-up field; that monster you control gains 1000 ATK/DEF until the end of this turn. If a Plant monster(s) you control is Tributed, while this card is in your GY (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card in Defense Position, but banish it when it leaves the field. You can only use each effect of "Erica the Rikka Fairy" once per turn.

Keep Erica in your hand until you need to boost the ATK of your Plant monster during battle. Use this boost on your stronger monsters like Tytannial, Kanzashi, and Ingunar to put them above most monsters. If you tribute Erica while Kanzashi is on the field, this will trigger Kanzashi's effect so that you can immediately revive Erica. Erica also has its own inherent revival effect making it quite good as an Xyz material.

Primula the Rikka Fairy
Primula the Rikka Fairy
WATER Plant ★4
ATK 800 / DEF 1800
Antinomic Theory [N]
If a monster you control is Tributed (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card from your hand in Defense Position. You can target up to 2 Plant monsters you control; increase their Level(s) by 2 until the end of this turn. You can only use each effect of "Primula the Rikka Fairy" once per turn.

Primula is the only low-leveled Rikka Fairy so she can be used to start your combos, even though other monsters are more ideal for this. If you have already have Carrotweight then a better use of Primula would be:

  1. Normal Summon Carrotweight.
  2. Tribute Carrot Weight to Special Summon Mudan. Primula Special Summons itself, and Mudan fetches Glamour.
  3. From here you can proceed to make Kanzashi or combo further to make Ingunar.
  4. If going for Ingunar, revive Carrotweight before activating Primula's effect.

Tuner

Glow-Up Bulb
Glow-Up Bulb
EARTH Plant ★1
ATK 100 / DEF 100
Judgement Force [UR]
If this card is in the Graveyard: You can send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard, and if you do, Special Summon this card. You can only use this effect of "Glow-Up Bulb" once per Duel.

Due to its inherent revival effect, Glow-Up Bulb is the best thing to discard when reviving Carrotweight. Glow-Up Bulb can then be revived when you need a tribute to Special Summon a Rikka Fairy. Being a self Special Summoning Tuner is also great for enabling Synchro plays. Since majority of your monster of your monsters are Level-6, you'll be making Level-7s if you do decide to make a Synchro.

World Carrotweight Champion & Rose Lover

World Carrotweight Champion
World Carrotweight Champion
DARK Plant ★4
ATK 1900 / DEF 0
Rampage of the Forest [R]
If this card is in your Graveyard: You can send 1 Plant-Type monster from your hand or face-up from your field to the Graveyard, except "World Carrotweight Champion"; Special Summon this card. You can only use this effect of "World Carrotweight Champion" once per turn.

Rikka Fairy Decks need low-level Plant monsters to use as tribute to start their combos. Carrotweight is great for this purpose because of its self-recycling ability. Usually you can Normal Summon Carrotweight, tribute it to Special Summon Mudan, then Special Summon Carrotweight again to be used as another tribute.

Rose Lover
Rose Lover
EARTH Plant ★1
ATK 800 / DEF 800
Card Trader [SR]
You can banish this card from the Graveyard; Special Summon 1 Plant-Type monster from your hand, and if you do, it is unaffected by your opponent's Trap effects this turn. You can only use this effect of "Rose Lover" once per turn.

Rose Lover is another low-level Plant you can Normal Summon to use as tribute. Unlike Carrotweight, Rose Lover is not as reusable so she's only good for one tribute. But the advantage in using her is the ability to protect your Plants from Traps. Rose Lover can also be put in the graveyard as cost for Carrotweight's revival.

Enemy Controller

Enemy Controller
Enemy Controller
Quick Spell
Seto Kaiba [SR]
Seto Kaiba (DSOD) [SR]
Ranked Rewards [SR]
Activate 1 of these effects.● Target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; change that target's battle position.● Tribute 1 monster, then target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; take control of that target until the End Phase.

Tributing your monster has some synergy with the other cards, like to special summon Erica or Primula.

If World Carrotweight Champion is in the grave, you can special summon it by discarding Erica to the grave, then use Enemy Controller to take control of your opponent's monster and special summon Erica from the grave. If your opponent's monster is a level 6, you can XYZ right away, or just tribute the Erica with your other Rikka monsters.

Rikka Techs

Rikka Glamour
Rikka Glamour
Normal Spell
Antinomic Theory [SR]
When you activate this card, you can also Tribute 1 Plant monster; add 1 "Rikka" monster from your Deck to your hand, then, if you Tributed a monster when you activated this card, add 1 Plant monster, with the same original Level as that "Rikka" monster but a different name, from your Deck to your hand. You can only activate 1 "Rikka Glamour" per turn.

Glamour is an important part of this Deck's main combo. Effectively, Glamour is used to fetch combo pieces in pairs; Snowdrop with Tytannial, or Mudan with Erica. The full combo does cost a lot of tributes though, so you can only perform the full combo in one turn if you get Glow-Up Bulb in the graveyard or have Primula on hand.

Rikka Flurries
Rikka Flurries
Continuous Spell
Antinomic Theory [R]
If a "Rikka" monster you control is Tributed (except during the Damage Step): You can make your opponent Tribute 1 monster they control (their choice). You can only use this effect of "Rikka Flurries" once per turn. Once per turn, during your opponent's End Phase, if you control a face-up non-Plant monster: Destroy this card.

Rikka Flurries just gives you more incentive to do what you're already doing with the Deck. Forcing the opponent to tribute their own monster does not target and does not destroy, making it a very good form of removal. However, since the monster to be removed is chosen by the opponent this might not be effective at getting rid of threats against monster spam Decks.

Rikka Tranquility
Rikka Tranquility
Normal Trap
Antinomic Theory [R]
When you activate this card, you can also Tribute 1 Plant monster; Special Summon 1 "Rikka" monster from your GY in Defense Position, then, if you Tributed a monster when you activated this card, Special Summon 1 Plant monster from your GY in Defense Position. You can only activate 1 "Rikka Tranquility" per turn.

Tranquility is a great comeback option because it effectively lets you Special Summon two Rikkas from the graveyard so you can proceed to make one of your Rank-6 Xyz. Alternatively, you can revive a Level-6 Rikka and a Tuner to make Black Rose Dragon.

Extra Deck

Vermillion Dragon Mech
Vermillion Dragon Mech
FIRE Machine ★9
ATK 2700 / DEF 1800
Blazing Rose [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Once per turn: You can banish 1 Tuner from your hand, field, or Graveyard, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it. If this Synchro Summoned card is destroyed by card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 of your banished Tuners; add it to your hand.

Make Vermillion Dragon Mech with Snowdrop and a Level-1 Tuner. Decent stats and decent removal effect, and much more cost efficient than similar effects because you're using cost from the graveyard.

Black Rose Dragon
Black Rose Dragon
FIRE Dragon ★7
ATK 2400 / DEF 1800
Blazing Rose [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
When this card is Synchro Summoned: You can destroy all cards on the field. Once per turn: You can banish 1 Plant-Type monster from your Graveyard, then target 1 Defense Position monster your opponent controls; change that target to face-up Attack Position, and if you do, its ATK becomes 0 until the end of this turn.

Black Rose Dragon is usually reserved for performing field wipes and getting rid of enemy board setups. But in a Plant Deck such as this, Black Rose Dragon's second effect can also be used to deal lethal damage.

Number 70: Malevolent Sin
Number 70: Malevolent Sin
DARK Insect ★4
ATK 2400 / DEF 1200
Photons of Galaxy [SR]
2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 monster your opponent controls; banish it until your opponent's next Standby Phase. At the end of the Damage Step, if this card attacked: You can make this card gain 300 ATK, and if you do, increase its Rank by 3.

Malevolent Sin is an anti-Xyz tech. Summon Malevolent Sin and use its effect to temporarily banish an enemy Xyz monster. The Xyz monster will return with no materials attached to it.

Digital Bug Rhinosebus
Digital Bug Rhinosebus
LIGHT Insect ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 2200
Infinite Ray [R]
2 or more Level 7 LIGHT Insect-Type monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by detaching 2 Xyz Materials from a Rank 5 or 6 Insect-Type Xyz Monster you control, then using that Xyz Monster as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; destroy the face-up monster(s) your opponent controls with the highest DEF (all, if tied).
Inzektor Exa-Beetle
Inzektor Exa-Beetle
DARK Insect ★6
ATK 1000 / DEF 1000
Darkness Gimmick [R]
2 Level 6 monsters
When this card is Xyz Summoned: You can target 1 monster in either player's Graveyard; equip that target to this card. This card gains ATK and DEF equal to half the original ATK and DEF of the monster equipped by this effect. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to target 1 face-up card on each side of the field; send those targets to the Graveyard.
Kanzashi the Rikka Queen
Kanzashi the Rikka Queen
WATER Plant ★6
ATK 2400 / DEF 2400
Antinomic Theory [R]
2 Level 6 monsters
If a monster(s) is Tributed (except during the Damage Step): You can detach 1 material from this card, then target 1 monster in either GY; Special Summon it, but negate its effects, also it becomes a Plant monster. If a Plant monster(s) you control would be destroyed by a card effect, you can Tribute 1 Plant monster from your hand or field instead. You can only use each effect of "Kanzashi the Rikka Queen" once per turn.

Kanzashi is your main Xyz monster and the one you'll be making most of the time. Her first effect helps you maintain resource count, because performing a lot of tributes can be very costly over time. This same effect also helps you build field presence, and can be used to disrupt the opponent's graveyard by stealing their powerful monsters.

Kanzashi's second effect is a protection effect similar to Tytannial. Kanzashi protects you from destruction effects while Tytannial protects from targeting effects. Between the two Kanzashi has better cost efficiency because she allows you to tribute from the hand.

Other Cards Option

Spore

Spore
Spore
WIND Plant ★1
ATK 400 / DEF 800
Aerial Assault [SR]
If this card is in your Graveyard: You can banish 1 other Plant-Type monster from your Graveyard; Special Summon this card from your Graveyard and increase its Level by the Level of that banished monster. Each player can only activate the effect of "Spore" once per Duel.

Similar to Glow-Up Bulb, Spore is another Level-1 Tuner with an inherent revival effect. For cost, banish Glow-Up Bulb that has already spent its effect.

Super Solar Nutrient

Super Solar Nutrient
Super Solar Nutrient
Continuous Spell
Card Trader [SR]
Activate this card by Tributing 1 Level 2 or lower Plant-Type monster; Special Summon 1 Plant-Type monster from your hand or Deck whose Level is less than or equal to the Level the Tributed monster had on the field +3. When this card leaves the field, destroy that monster. When that monster leaves the field, destroy this card.

Use this to fetch Carrotweight from the Deck. Because the cost tributes, this lets you trigger the effect of Kanzashi.

Tomato Monsters

Tomato in Tomato
Tomato in Tomato
EARTH Plant ★3
ATK 1000 / DEF 1400
PvP Duel: Turbo Duel Grand Prix [SR]
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 "Tomato in Tomato" from your hand or Deck. This card cannot be used as an Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon, except for the Xyz Summon of a Plant-Type monster.

Normal Summon Tomato and Special Summon another copy of it from the Deck. The first copy is Tributed to Special Summon Mudan, while the second Tomato is tribute fodder for Glamour. Another thing you can do with the two Tomatoes is to use them as Xyz material and make Tomato King.

Tomato King
Tomato King
EARTH Plant ★3
ATK 1600 / DEF 800
PvP Duel: Turbo Duel Grand Prix [UR]
2 Level 3 Plant-Type monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; this card's ATK becomes double its original ATK until your opponent's next End Phase.

Tomato King is very easy to summon with Tomato in Tomato's effect. Make this if you need a quick beater to push damage or attack over a powerful monster.

Other Synchro Monsters

Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
WATER Dragon ★7
ATK 2500 / DEF 1700
Cybernetic Rebellion [SR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner WATER monsters
Once per turn: You can discard up to 2 cards to the Graveyard to target the same number of cards your opponent controls; destroy them.

Gungnir provides on demand removal of enemy cards. And unlike most monsters with a similar effect, Gungnir's can get rid of two cards.

Other Xyz Monsters

Number 87: Queen of the Night
Number 87: Queen of the Night
WATER Plant ★8
ATK 3200 / DEF 2800
Antinomic Theory [SR]
3 Level 8 monsters
Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then activate 1 of these effects.
● Target 1 Set Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; while this card is face-up on the field, that Set card cannot be activated.
● Target 1 Plant-Type monster on the field; change that target to face-down Defense Position.
● Target 1 face-up monster on the field; that target gains 300 ATK.

Queen of the Night is quite expensive to summon. You'll need a full field of monsters with one of them being Snowdrop. Use Snowdrop's effect to make all your Plants Level-8. Queen of the Night has pretty strong ATK and a great backrow control effect. The first effect is practically the only thing you'll use; the second effect is only good in matches against other Plant monsters and the third effect's ATK boost is too low.

Sylvan Princessprite
Sylvan Princessprite
LIGHT Plant ★1
ATK 1800 / DEF 100
Selection Box Vol.04 [SR]
2 Level 1 monsters
You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; excavate the top card of your Deck, and if it is a Spell/Trap Card, add it to your hand. Otherwise, send it to the Graveyard. You can send 1 other Plant-Type monster from your hand or face-up from your field to the Graveyard, then target 1 "Sylvan" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it. You can only use each effect of "Sylvan Princessprite" once per turn.

Princessprite helps you get resources by excavating Spell/Traps and setting up the graveyard with Plant monsters; ideally you put Carrotweight in the graveyard.

Constellar Ptolemy M7
Constellar Ptolemy M7
LIGHT Machine ★6
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Infinite Ray [UR]
2 Level 6 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a "Constellar" Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material, other than "Constellar Ptolemy M7". (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If Summoned this way, the following effect cannot be activated this turn. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 monster on the field or in either player's Graveyard; return that target to the hand.

Ptolemy M7 provides non-destruction removal which also doesn't send the target to the graveyard, bypassing most floating. Monsters that do not end up in the graveyard are also harder to recycle, especially if it was an Extra Deck monster.

You can also select a monster in your own graveyard and recover it.

Photon Strike Bounzer
Photon Strike Bounzer
LIGHT Warrior ★6
ATK 2700 / DEF 2000
Photons of Galaxy [SR]
2 Level 6 monsters
Once per turn, during either player's turn, when a monster effect is activated on your opponent's side of the field: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the effect, and if you do, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent.

Negating enemy monster effects is great for disrupting their plays, especially since most combos involve the use of a monster effect. An example is negating Noble Knight Medraut, Utopic Onomatopeia, etc. The burn damage upon negation is also quite a significant amount.

However, the negation effect does not destroy the negated monster, so this can be dangerous against powerful monsters like Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon.

Fairy Knight Ingunar
Fairy Knight Ingunar
EARTH Plant ★6
ATK 2200 / DEF 3000
Antinomic Theory [SR]
3 Level 6 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 2 Xyz Materials from this card; return all other cards on the field to the hand. Your opponent cannot activate cards or effects in response to this effect's activation.

Ingunar can be considered the Xyz version of Black Rose Dragon due to its field wipe effect. Comparing the two, you'll see many pros and cons so pick the one which is most appropriate for the situation. The best time to make Ingunar is if your opponent is down to their last 2200 LP.

Why not play Copy Plant? It's a level 1 tuner for synchro plays plus it can copy the level of any other plant on the field for xyz plays.

Tyrant's Temper is also a good tech for this deck.

And as much as I despise saying this, cards with discard cost like Karma Cut and Raigeki Break does help getting Carrot into the Graveyard.

Maybe the good old Enemy Controller too, since the second effect tributes your own monster.

It depends when you use it. Econ is optimal when there's two monsters on the opponents field. But Ballista can be used to both destroy a face down spell/trap and force your opponent to tribute a monster (if you got Rikka flurry on the field)

All the tributes and searches and special summons can get confusing and overwhelming at first, this is definitely a deck that must be practiced with at first by using it against NPCs.

Pure Rikka would be tragically bad. you NEED cards that can take advantage of being tributed and sent to the graveyard. we have Cyclamen but it's slow and it's on field effect is trash. if we get Rikka Petal in the future, maybe it could happen

Why would you make a pure version? Konami themselves suggest otherwise, seeing how they include Carrot Champion in the box, and free Rose Lover.
