How to Use

Subterror Behemoths

Subterror Behemoth Umastryx
Subterror Behemoth Umastryx
EARTH Reptile ★7
ATK 2000 / DEF 2700
Blazing Rose [SR]
FLIP: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; banish it. You can only use this effect of "Subterror Behemoth Umastryx" once per turn. When a face-up monster you control is flipped face-down, if you control no face-up monsters: You can Special Summon this card from your hand in Defense Position. Once per turn: You can change this card to face-down Defense Position.
Subterror Behemoth Stygokraken
Subterror Behemoth Stygokraken
EARTH Sea Serpent ★5
ATK 1400 / DEF 2600
Blazing Rose [R]
FLIP: You can target Set cards on the field, equal to the number of "Subterror Behemoth" monsters you control; destroy them. You can only use this effect of "Subterror Behemoth Stygokraken" once per turn.
When a face-up monster you control is flipped face-down, if you control no face-up monsters: You can Special Summon this card from your hand in Defense Position. Once per turn: You can change this card to face-down Defense Position.

These are the high-level monsters that will be summoned with Subterror Nemesis Warrior. You can also special summon these by normal summoning Flip Frog and activating it to flip it down.

Umastryx banishes your opponent's monster, while Stygokraken destroys set cards. Stygokraken may be the safe choice in many cases since it can destroy your opponent's backrow and your opponent's monster if you have Book of Moon, but it has lower base ATK compared to Umastryx.

Both of these have 4000 ATK or more if used with Subterror Final Battle, allowing the deck to have an OTK potential with just 1 direct attack.

Subterror Nemesis Warrior

Subterror Nemesis Warrior
Subterror Nemesis Warrior
EARTH Warrior ★4
ATK 1800 / DEF 1200
Blazing Rose [R]
During either player's turn: You can send 1 "Subterror" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard; Tribute this card and at least 1 other monster so the total original Levels Tributed equal or exceed the Level of that "Subterror" monster in the Graveyard, and if you do, Special Summon that monster in face-up or face-down Defense Position. If a "Subterror Behemoth" monster is flipped face-up while this card is in your Graveyard: You can Special Summon this card. You can only use each effect of "Subterror Nemesis Warrior" once per turn.

Normal Summon Subterror Nemesis Warrior and activate your Skill by returning a card from your hand to the Deck. During your opponent’s Standby Phase (Toggle Button ON), activate Subterror Nemesis Warrior’s effect, send Subterror Behemoth Umastryx or Subterror Behemoth Stygokraken from your Deck to the Graveyard and Tribute Subterror Nemesis Warrior and another monster to Special Summon in face-up or face-down Defense Position the “Subterror Behemoth” that was sent to the Graveyard.

If you activate the Skill Masked Tribute you cannot Normal or Special Summon monsters for the rest of the turn, so you will have to wait for your opponent’s turn to Summon a “Subterror Behemoth”. If there’s a Lava Golem or a Parasite Paracide on your side of the field that you want to get rid of, you can Tribute it via Subterror Nemesis Warrior’s effect to Summon Subterror Behemoth Speleogeist, Umastryx or Stygokraken.

If a “Subterror Behemoth” monster is flipped face-up, you can Special Summon Subterror Nemesis Warrior from your Graveyard. Even if you have multiple copies of Subterror Nemesis Warrior in your Graveyard, you can only use this effect once per turn.

Flip Flop Frog

Flip Flop Frog
Flip Flop Frog
WATER Aqua
ATK 500 / DEF 200
Cybernetic Rebellion [R]
Once per turn, you can flip this card into face-down Defense Position. When this card is flipped face-up, you can return monsters your opponent controls to their owners' hand up to the number of face-up "Frog" monsters you control, except "Frog the Jam".

What if I don’t open with Subterror Nemesis Warrior? You can still Summon your “Subterror Behemoth” monsters by Normal Summoning Flip Flop Frog and changing it to face-down Defense Position via its own effect. When a monster you control is flipped face-down, if you control no face-up monsters, you can Special Summon Subterror Behemoth Umastryx, Stygokraken or Speleogeist from your hand.

Your “Subterror Behemoth” monsters have the ability to flip themselves face-down as well, so, if you control one, you can Special Summon another one from your hand. You cannot Special Summon multiple “Subterror Behemoth” monsters at once because their effect has to be activated in response to your monster being flipped face-down

Subterror Final Battle

Subterror Final Battle
Subterror Final Battle
Normal Trap
Blazing Rose [SR]
Activate 1 of these effects, also, after that, Set this card face-down instead of sending it to the Graveyard.
● Change 1 Set "Subterror" monster on the field to face-up Attack or Defense Position.
● Change 1 face-up "Subterror" monster on the field to face-down Defense Position.
● ATK and DEF of 1 "Subterror" monster on the field become equal to its combined original ATK and DEF until the end of this turn.
● This turn, activated effects of "Subterror" cards cannot be negated.

When you activate Subterror Final Battle, you can choose to apply 1 of 4 different effects and then Set it instead of sending it to the Graveyard.

  • You can change 1 Set "Subterror" monster on the field to face-up Attack or Defense Position.

Use this effect to flip your “Subterror Behemoth” monsters and trigger their effects. If your opponent locks one of your “Subterror” monsters in face-down Defense Position with Floodgate Trap Hole, you can use Subterror Final Battle to change it to face-up Attack Position.

  • You can change 1 face-up "Subterror" monster on the field to face-down Defense Position.

  • The ATK and DEF of 1 "Subterror" monster on the field become equal to its combined original ATK and DEF until the end of this turn.

Both Subterror Behemoth Umastryx and Stygokraken definitely lack when it comes to ATK, especially if you compare them to monsters like Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Ancient Gear Reactor Dragon, but, thanks to Subterror Final Battle, you can flip the situation around.

  • This turn, activated effects of "Subterror" cards cannot be negated.

Book of Moon

Book of Moon
Book of Moon
Quick Spell
Selection Box Vol.04 [UR]
Target 1 face-up monster on the field; change that target to face-down Defense Position.

It's useful to stop enemy plays or dodge certain targeted effects, but you can also use it on your own Nemesis Warrior if you want to special summon the high-level Subterrors from your hand.

If your opponent uses something like Forbidden Chalice or Fiendish Chain on Nemesis Warrior when you're trying to bring out a Subterror from the deck, you can chain Book of Moon to avoid your opponent's card.

This also lets you destroy your opponent's monster if you have Stygokraken.

World Legacy Pawn

World Legacy Pawn
World Legacy Pawn
Continuous Trap
Judgement Force [SR]
Selection Box Vol.04 [SR]
You can target 1 face-down monster you control; change it to face-up Attack or Defense Position. You can shuffle 1 "Krawler" monster from your GY into the Main Deck, then target 1 face-up monster you control; change it to face-down Defense Position. You can only use 1 "World Legacy Pawns" effect per turn, and only once that turn.

Compared to Final Battle, this can only flip a monster to face-up. If you have a Behemoth or Flip Frog that's face-up at the start of your turn, you can activate the monster effect to flip it down, then use World Legacy Pawn to flip it up again to activate their main effect.

Extra Deck

Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack
Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack
WIND Machine ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 2200
Sign of Harpies [UR]
2 Level 7 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Special Summon 2 "Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens" (Machine-Type/WIND/Level 3/ATK 0/DEF 0). While you control a Token, this card cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects. Once per turn: You can Tribute 1 "Mecha Phantom Beast" monster, then target 1 card on the field; destroy that target. This card cannot attack during the turn you activate this effect.

Summonable with 2 Umastryx on the field. Useful for its card removal and for stalling.

Number 61: Volcasaurus
Number 61: Volcasaurus
FIRE Dinosaur ★5
ATK 2500 / DEF 1000
Rage of Volcano [UR]
2 Level 5 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; destroy that opponent's monster, and if you do, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the destroyed monster's original ATK. This card cannot attack your opponent directly during the turn you activate this effect.

Special summonable with 2 Stygokraken. Xyz into this as a follow-up after using Stygokraken's effect to destroy your opponent's backrow, then destroy their monster with Volcasaurus. After that, you can rank up into Gaia Dragon to attack.

Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger
Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger
WIND Dragon ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 2100
Infinite Ray [SR]
2 Level 7 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a Rank 5 or 6 Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.

Summonable with 2 Umastryx or ranking up from Volcasaurus. Having this as an option lets you attack after using Volcasaurus' effect, or just to have a piercing effect so you can deal with defensive decks.

Diamond Dire Wolf
Diamond Dire Wolf
EARTH Beast ★4
ATK 2000 / DEF 1200
Voltage of the Metal [SR]
2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast-Type monster you control and 1 other card on the field; destroy them.

1 for 1 removal. If you have a face-down Behemoth on the field, you can use 2 Nemesis Warrior to Xyz into Diamond Dire Wolf to destroy a card, then special summon Nemesis Warrior from the grave by flipping your behemoth face-up.

Number 70: Malevolent Sin
Number 70: Malevolent Sin
DARK Insect ★4
ATK 2400 / DEF 1200
Photons of Galaxy [SR]
2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 monster your opponent controls; banish it until your opponent's next Standby Phase. At the end of the Damage Step, if this card attacked: You can make this card gain 300 ATK, and if you do, increase its Rank by 3.

Good against Xyz monsters since it will remove their materials, or just any situation where your opponent only has 1 monster. Temporarily bypassing your opponent's monster can help with OTK with Final Battle's ATK boost.

Number 18: Heraldry Patriarch
Number 18: Heraldry Patriarch
LIGHT Psychic ★4
ATK 2200 / DEF 2200
Voltage of the Metal [R]
2 Level 4 monsters
Once per Chain, during either player's turn, if 2 or more monsters with the same name are on the field: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; choose 1 monster among those with the same name, and destroy all other monsters with that name. While this card remains face-up on the field, your opponent cannot Summon monsters with the same name as any of the monster(s) chosen for this card's effect. If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can send 2 "Heraldic Beast" monsters from your Deck to the Graveyard.

Useful against certain decks that uses same name monsters like Harpies or Cyber Dragons. It has high value if those kinds of decks are common in the meta.

Number 45: Crumble Logos the Prophet of Demolition
Number 45: Crumble Logos the Prophet of Demolition
EARTH Zombie ★2
ATK 2200 / DEF
Shark Fang [R]
2 or more Level 2 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 other face-up card on the field; while this monster is face-up on the field, that target has its effects negated. While that target is on the field, cards with the same name as that target, and their effects, cannot be activated.

Crumble Logos is your only Rank-2 Xyz to be summoned by using two Flip Frogs as material. Negating the effect of any face-up card is useful for shutting off problematic effects. And your opponent also won't be able to activate another copy of the negated card. This can be a useful counter against Decks such as Dark Magician and The Weather.

Additional Notes

  • Ideally, you should shuffle back into the Deck the “Subterror Behemoth” monster you intend to send to the Graveyard and Special Summon via Subterror Nemesis Warrior’s effect.

Other Cards Option

Flip Monsters

Mahjong Munia Maidens
Mahjong Munia Maidens
WIND Winged Beast ★2
ATK 200 / DEF 2000
Tour Guide's Mission Bingo Event [SR]
FLIP: You can draw 1 card, then discard 1 card. Once per turn: You can change this card to face-down Defense Position.

Helps with repairing cards in your hand, and potential stalling since it has decent DEF for a level 4 monster.

Golem Sentry
Golem Sentry
EARTH Rock ★4
ATK 800 / DEF 1800
Paradox Brothers [N]
Once per turn: You can change this card to face-down Defense Position. When this card is Flip Summoned: Target 1 monster your opponent controls; return that target to the hand.

Works similarly to Flip Flop Frog with slightly higher stats, but its effect targets cards, while Flip Flop Frog is non-targeting.

Tsukuyomi
Tsukuyomi
DARK Spellcaster ★4
ATK 1100 / DEF 1400
Guardians of Rock [SR]
Cannot be Special Summoned. During the End Phase of the turn this card is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up: Return it to the hand. When this card is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up: Target 1 face-up monster on the field; change that target to face-down Defense Position.

Can flip itself down if you need to special summon a Behemoth from your hand. Together with Book of Moon, you can flip your opponent's monster and also your own so you can still special summon Behemoths from your hand.

Other Techs

Needle Ceiling
Needle Ceiling
Normal Trap
Valiant Souls [UR]
When there are 4 or more monsters on the field: Destroy all face-up monsters.

Face-down monsters count towards Needle Ceiling's effect activation requirement but are not destroyed. Since Subterror monsters are face-down most of the time, Needle Ceiling essentially only wipes out your enemy's monsters.

Wall of Disruption
Wall of Disruption
Normal Trap
Servants of Kings [SR]
When an opponent's monster declares an attack: All Attack Position monsters your opponent controls lose 800 ATK for each monster they control.

Any reason as to why no one runs Ultramafus? I find it to be a really really good floodgate especially when going up against swarm decks like Blackwings. It lets Stygokraken destroy cards that otherwise could not be targeted/could negate effect destruction because they are flipped face down.

You cant really summon him with the nemesis warrior, so it has to be in your hand and if you dont have frog or a behemoth on field you cant even summon him from the hand except normal for 2 tributes, so its more situational than the lowlevel behemoths

All I see is subterror from a f2p deck becoming a big whale deck.

this is true, no1 can deny the mighty moon

Pretty sure golem sentry is better than flip flop frog as they have the same effect but golem sentry has higher defense which is useful in some situations

Lol no. Flip flop frog does not target.
This helps get rid of some nasty monsters - Invoked Cocytus or Red eyes slash dragon.
If you do everything right and draw out all the cards you need for combo your opponent will not be able to hit you even once

So how would you be able to summon Bujintei Tsukuyomi with this deck? Considering the glaring lack of any LIGHT monsters

By using 2 Nemesis warrior while your opponent have a face up DNA transplant and declared light attribute.

Hey, admin. How you summon Purgatrio in invoked version while there's no fire monster?
<< Anonymous(Candend)

Use your opponent's dead fire monster, if they have one. Otherwise you don't summon it and rely on your other stuff.

More otk, why not

What's the point having only 1 shadow imprison mirror? Subterror still good in pvp?
<< Anonymous(Pepek)
Anonymous Reply
It really depends a lot on what you draw with Subterrors in pvp. In general I would say they are outdated, but on a good hand they can compete with almost anything. Unfortunately, they don't have the search or draw power to compete with current meta.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
I played Subterrors this month and even reached late KOG, but they are heavily outdated.

Mostly because many decks can nuke your entire field and you cannot recover from it.
<< Anonymous(Pepek)

I would suggest adding the light imprison mirror as well, since every top tier deck is composed of both light and dark monsters.

Ya they are still bad.

worst match up for the newest build is Cydra. Anything else just handled well with this deck.
I <3 Steelswarms
Basicaly we got the better version of desert sunlight. The problem is that you can't really fit proper backrow removal into the deck. The new version you have to take your pawn to fit your CC. You will have better backrow removal but you won't have more flip up options. Also there isn't any good trapmonster version. I write down my own. (trapmonster version is very stable but they are slow :( ).
3 uma
2 stygo
3 flipflop
3 warrior

3 statue of anguis pattern
3 cyber shadow gardna (it resets itself so
you can spam statue's effect)
