Mother Spider: deck recipe

“Spider” is an archetype of Insect-Type monsters with particular effects that usually require the opponent's monsters to be in Defense Position in order to be activated.

This deck focuses on changing the Battle Position of the opponent’s monsters to then Tribute them and Special Summon Mother Spider, the main card of the deck.

When it's destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, Howling Insect allows you to Special Summon an Insect-Type monster from your Deck with 1500 or less ATK.

Use Howling Insect to Special Summon Resonance Insect and then banish it for Lair Wire or Doom Dozer.

If Resonance Insect is sent from the field to the Graveyard, it allows you to add a Level 5 or higher Insect-Type monster from your Deck to your hand. You can use Resonance Insect’s effect to search Mother Spider or Doom Dozer.

If you banish Resonance Insect from your Graveyard to activate Lair Wire or to Special Summon Doom Dozer, its second effect will trigger, allowing you to send another Insect-Type monster from your Deck to the Graveyard, ready for your next play.

If you only have Insect-Type monsters in your Graveyard, you can Special Summon Mother Spider from your hand by sending to the Graveyard two face-up Defense Position monsters on the opponent's side of the field. There has to be at least 1 Insect-Type monster in your Graveyard for you to Special Summon this card, but, since it's not stated otherwise, you can still Normal Summon it.

Compared to Reptilianne Vaskii, Mother Spider has a lot more restrictions when it comes to Summoning Conditions, but switching two monsters your opponent controls into Defense Position is definitely a lot easier than lowering their ATK to 0.

As you can probably already tell, the main appeal of this card is the fact that it allows to remove from the field two of your opponent's monsters:

• If you send Silent Magician to the Graveyard in order to Special Summon Mother Spider, your opponent will not be able to Special Summon Silent Magician LV8 from their Deck or hand because the effect only triggers when the monster is destroyed.

• If you send Yubel - Terror Incarnate to the Graveyard, its effect will Miss the Timing and your opponent will not be able to Special Summon Yubel - The Ultimate Nightmare.

Overall Mother Spider is a decent card; you can use Needlebug Nest or even That Grass Looks Greener to get at least an Insect-Type monsters into the Graveyard faster and then Curse of Anubis or Earthquake to change the Battle Position of all of your opponent's monsters to Special Summon it.

Doom Dozer is here primarily for its high ATK, it's not that difficult to Summon, it can easily be searched and, after Beatdown!, it can get over a Blue-Eyes White Dragon.

This Skill is used to get over common high ATK such as Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Masked HERO Anki.

• Your opponent is not always going to have two face-up monsters on the field that you can switch to Defense and then Tribute for Mother Spider.
• The deck takes some time to set up and has to rely on backrow in order to survive; a simple Hey, Trunade! might be enough to enable an early OTK.
• Mother Spider has no additional effect, it still removes two monsters from the field, if you manage to Summon it, but afterwards it’s literally just a 2300 beatstick.
