I will never understand this effect. I mean, who the hell destroys a 1300/1200 monster with a card effect???

It needs to be destroyed by opponent's card effects aswell. So you can't even use cards like Two Pronged Attack, Generation Shift etc.

I wanted to use it to counter my opponents Ectoplasmer. But somehow it doesn't spawn after it is destroyed by Ectoplasmer...
Can anyone explain why?

gernia needs to be destroyed for the effect to work, ectoplasmer tributes monsters instead of destroying them.
