Dark Nephthys

Dark Nephthys
Monster TypeWinged Beast
Card typeEffect
Card Effect TypeIgnition Effect / Trigger Effect
ArchetypesDark counterpart

If you have 3 or more DARK monsters in your Graveyard and this card in your hand: You can banish 2 of them from your Graveyard; send this card from your hand to the Graveyard. During your next Standby Phase after this card was sent to the Graveyard by this effect: Special Summon this card from the Graveyard. When this card is Special Summoned: Target 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy that target.

How to Get

PackPrimal Burst [SR]
Level-up reward--
Victory against--
Card trader--

  • Strong ATK stats.
  • Destroys 1 Spell/Trap card on the field when being Special Summoned correctly.

  • Significantly weaker effect compared to its counterpart, Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys.
  • Requires having at least 3 DARK monsters in the graveyard, and banishing 2 DARK monsters as a cost, to send this card to the Graveyard for a Special Summon next Standby phase, which is considerably slow.

  • This card’s trade-off is not that good, between the effort required to Special Summon it, and the effect it offers is only to destroy 1 Spell/Trap card. This produces a vast gap between this card with its counterpart Sacred Phoenix of Nepthys, which can destroy all Spell/Cards on the field when it was Special Summoned from the Graveyard.

Dark Monster Support

Dark Nephthys will fit in best in a DARK Fiend-type deck, as you can also choose to Special Summon Dark Necrofear when Dark Nephthys is not available. Doomsday Horror would gain massive amounts of ATK and DEF based on the amount of your banished DARK monsters. Magical Merchant functions to mill your deck by sending all the DARK monsters into the Graveyard until it fetches 1 Spell/Trap card from your deck. Veil of Darkness allows you to continuously draw and discard DARK monsters in 1 turn.

Mah Boi
The special summon effect applies even when it's summoned without its own effect, right?

Based on the text, no.

Based on the text, yes. Of course it does. If it was connected to its own summoning effect, it would be in the same sentence.

The sentence "Destroys 1 Spell/Trap card on the field when being Special Summoned correctly." seems like the page is suggesting that this card only destroys S/T if summoned by its own effect, but it actually still destroys S/T if spe summon by other ways (such as via symbols of duty etc.)

I personally like dark nepthys over the original because of this.
Even if I my vanilla Nephtys deck is better, I have fun with Bakura / Fiend Farewell deck with this card and Ghosts From the Past
REZ Has alot of dark monsters, and gets em in the grave fast. Loving this card as a 2-of in my rez deck. Very good with sphere kuri aswell.
Love having backrow removal in REZ

Made it into legend with red eyes nephtys
Wow! I really like to have the dark versions of the monsters and i'm waiting for the dark creator, dark horus and dark parsath
And not all the dark versions have bad effects. For example with dark simorgh on the field the opponent cannot set any spell or trap card. I think dark simorgh will be UR
It is funny since the "Dark" versions are supposed to be stronger in games/anime ect. But in the cards they have shit effects compared to their originals. Dark Horus special summons a lv4 or lower monster once a spell is activated.

Ignoring the elephant in the room, DAD.
Why only 1?
Decent boss monster
Well, it's a super rare and not an ultra rare, not to mention that it might go well with some dark monsters themed deck.

Dark Necrofear with semi-Effect of Phoenix
Inferior to the other one by quite a margin. Harder to summon and effect is limited to 1 card.
Quiet hard to summon and this card is not good
Mini dark armed dragon but crap
Weak as shit
