Gimmick Puppets are an XYZ focused deck that's all about using your opponent's monsters. Taking control of them, and changing their levels to summon your own level 8 XYZ. This can often turn a losing duel to a win in an instant.
[Skill] description | User |
---|---|
Relinquished Puppet Send 1 Level 8 "Gimmick Puppet" monster in your hand or Deck to your Graveyard. Then, play 1 "Gimmick Puppet Des Troy" from outside your Deck. This Skill can only be used if you begin the Duel with a Deck/Extra Deck that contains no monsters other than "Gimmick Puppet" monsters and DARK "Number" monsters. This Skill can be used once per Duel. | Quattro |
Gimmick Puppet Des Troy | DARK Machine ★4 ATK / DEF |
Raid Duel - Giant Grinder: The Meet-and-Greet of Nightmares [SR] | |
You can target 1 "Gimmick Puppet" monster on the field; destroy it. This effect can only be used once while this card is face-up on the field. When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 or 2 "Gimmick Puppet" monsters from your hand. |
Only summonable by using the skill. This can be a decent turn 1 card to pass the turn since your opponent has no monsters for you to take control of. You can use this to destroy any Gimmick Puppet monster, making it really good against mirror matches.
Since summoning this doesn't use your normal summon, you just need to have another level 4 monster to XYZ into Gigantes Doll to take control of up to 2 monsters your opponent controls.
If you only have a level 8 monster in your hand:
Gimmick Puppet Terror Baby | DARK Machine ★4 ATK 500 / DEF 0 |
Darkness Gimmick [UR] | |
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can target 1 "Gimmick Puppet" monster in your GY, except "Gimmick Puppet Terror Baby"; Special Summon it in Defense Position. You can banish this card from your GY; your opponent cannot activate cards or effects in response to the activation of your "Gimmick Puppet" monster effects this turn. |
A simple 1 card for XYZ summoning. Activating the skill will already put a level 4 monster on your field, so having this in hand without its effect can already become an XYZ monster, but it's also a great follow up card for the later turns.
If you have a Dreary Doll in your graveyard that you can activate, you can XYZ into a level 4 and 8 on the same turn:
Gimmick Puppet Bisque Doll | DARK Machine ★8 ATK 1000 / DEF 1000 |
Darkness Gimmick [SR] | |
You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by discarding 1 "Gimmick Puppet" monster. You can banish this card from your GY; your opponent cannot target "Gimmick Puppet" monsters you control with card effects this turn. |
Best used (in the graveyard) at the start of the turn before you summon any Gimmick Puppet monsters. If you have Condolence Puppet in hand, you can send this card to the grave and use its effect first before using the skill. This prevents your opponent from being able to destroy your monsters as you're trying to make a play.
The cost of a Gimmick Puppet discard can be used for Dreary Doll, which is almost always in the grave since you can easily send it there using the skill or Condolence Puppet.
Gimmick Puppet Dreary Doll | DARK Machine ★8 ATK 0 / DEF 0 |
Darkness Gimmick [SR] | |
If this card is in your Graveyard: You can banish 1 other "Gimmick Puppet" monster from your Graveyard; Special Summon this card from your Graveyard. You can only use this effect of "Gimmick Puppet Dreary Doll" once per turn. This card cannot be used as an Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon, except for the Xyz Summon of a "Gimmick Puppet" monster. |
Essentially used as a continuous level 8 monster that you can keep special summoning once per turn. You only need 1 copy of this since you can consistently send it to the grave with the skill or Condolence Puppet.
Gimmick Puppet Magnet Doll | DARK Machine ★8 ATK 1000 / DEF 1000 |
Quattro Roaming Event [SR] | |
If your opponent controls a monster, and all monsters you control are "Gimmick Puppet" monsters (min. 1), you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). |
A simple level 8 monster with a special summon effect to XYZ with any of the other level 8.
Gimmick Puppet Gear Changer | EARTH Machine ★1 ATK 100 / DEF 100 |
Raid Duel - Giant Grinder: The Meet-and-Greet of Nightmares [SR] | |
Cannot be Special Summoned from the Deck. Once per turn: You can target 1 "Gimmick Puppet" monster you control, except this card; this card's Level becomes the Level of that monster. |
Used to pair up with any of the other monsters so you can XYZ into a rank 4 or 8. Be sure to activate Bisque Doll first before you summon this card since it has very low stats.
Junk Puppet | Normal Spell |
Arts of Atlantis [UR] | |
Target 1 "Gimmick Puppet" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it. You can only activate 1 "Junk Puppet" per turn. |
Can special summon any Gimmick Puppet monster regardless of their level. Since you can even use the skill at the start of the duel, you can essentially use this to summon a specific monster from your deck. Though you'll most often want to send either Dreary Doll or Bisque Doll, so this can be treated as a good way to have a level 8 to your field.
Condolence Puppet | Normal Spell |
Arts of Atlantis [SR] | |
Send "Gimmick Puppet" monsters with different names from your Deck to the GY, up to the number of monsters your opponent controls that were Special Summoned from the Extra Deck +1. You can banish this card from your GY, then target 1 Machine Xyz Monster you control; it cannot be destroyed by your opponent's card effects while face-up on the field. You can only use each effect of "Condolence Puppet" once per turn. |
Even if your opponent doesn't control any monster, you can already send a specific Gimmick Puppet monster from deck to the graveyard, which is already good enough since you can put another one through the skill.
If you have this in your starting hand, use it to send Bisque Doll and activate it first before making a play or use your skill to protect them from dangerous targeted effects.
Advance Draw | Normal Spell |
Mokuba Kaiba [SR] | |
Tribute 1 face-up Level 8 or higher monster you control; draw 2 cards. |
May help potential bricking, and can be used often since you can keep special summoning Dreary Doll. Special summoning Bisque Doll and using Advance Draw helps put her in the graveyard for the protection effect as well.
Warning Point | Normal Trap |
Link Revolution [UR] | |
When a monster(s) is Summoned: This turn, that face-up monster(s) cannot attack, its effects are negated, also it cannot be used as material for a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Summon. |
Great Discruptive Trap by negating 1 face-up monster's effect with block attack while it is Summoned, also prevent it from being using as Extra Deck Summon material.
Xyz Block | Counter Trap |
Shining Hope [SR] | |
When your opponent activates a monster effect: Detach 1 Xyz Material from a monster you control; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that monster. |
Since Puppet of Strings' effect isn't really that strong, you can use those materials to negate a monster instead.
Number 40: Gimmick Puppet of Strings | DARK Machine ★8 ATK 3000 / DEF 2000 |
Quattro Lvl 18, and 30 [UR] | |
2 Level 8 monsters Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; place 1 String Counter on each face-up monster on the field, except this card. If you do, during your opponent's next End Phase: Destroy the monsters with String Counters, and if you do, inflict 500 damage to your opponent for each monster destroyed. |
Its effect isn't really that reliable since it's kind of slow. Puppet of Strings is mostly used as the card you XYZ into after you take control of your opponent's monster. This is because the other option is Giant Grinder, and that monster has lower ATK, which will make it harder to survive the next turn.
Number 15: Gimmick Puppet Giant Grinder | DARK Machine ★8 ATK 1500 / DEF 2500 |
Darkness Gimmick [UR] | |
2 Level 8 monsters Up to twice per turn, during your Main Phase 1: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Special Summoned monster your opponent controls; destroy it, then if it was an Xyz Monster, inflict damage to your opponent equal half to its original ATK. |
The rank 4 Gimmick Puppet XYZ is to take control of up to 2 monsters, while this rank 8 is to simply destroy them. However, keep in mind that this destruction effect has a restriction where it can only destroy special summoned monsters, while the rank 4 has no such restriction.
Number 22: Zombiestein | DARK Zombie ★8 ATK 4500 / DEF 1000 |
Darkness Gimmick [SR] | |
2 Level 8 DARK monsters Must be Xyz Summoned and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card and send 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard to target 1 face-up card your opponent controls; change this card to Defense Position, and if you do, negate that face-up card's effect until the End Phase. |
A pretty good optional card to use as a rank 8 XYZ. 4500 ATK is high enough to one shot your opponent, making it a great comeback card from your opponent controlling 2 monsters to a win for you in a turn.
The negate effect is pretty strong since it's a quick effect and can negate any face-up card, but switching it to DEF with only 1000 can make it difficult to survive.
Gimmick Puppet Gigantes Doll | DARK Machine ★4 ATK 0 / DEF 2000 |
Mechanic Souls [SR] | |
2 Level 4 "Gimmick Puppet" monsters You can detach 2 materials from this card, then target up to 2 monsters your opponent controls; gain control of them until the End Phase, also for the rest of this turn you cannot Special Summon monsters, except "Gimmick Puppet" monsters, nor declare an attack, except with Xyz Monsters. You can Tribute this card; all monsters you currently control become Level 8 until the end of this turn. You can only use each effect of "Gimmick Puppet Gigantes Doll" once per turn. |
Essentially the main signature card of the deck. Can be used even if your opponent only controls 1 monster, but best used when they have 2 of course.
If you take control of non XYZ monsters, then you will need to use Gigantes Doll's effect to change their levels into 8 so you can summon an XYZ of your own.
Number 70: Malevolent Sin | DARK Insect ★4 ATK 2400 / DEF 1200 |
Photons of Galaxy [SR] | |
2 Level 4 monsters Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 monster your opponent controls; banish it until your opponent's next Standby Phase. At the end of the Damage Step, if this card attacked: You can make this card gain 300 ATK, and if you do, increase its Rank by 3. |
A handy card to bring since it has a good effect and it's a generic rank 4 monster. Just keep in mind that it's not a "Gimmick Puppet" monster, which means it's not protected from Bisque Doll's effect, or any of your Gimmick Puppet graveyard effects.
Number 68: Sanaphond the Sky Prison | DARK Rock ★8 ATK 2100 / DEF 2700 |
Infinite Ray [R] Fantastic Arc [R] | |
2 Level 8 monsters Gains 100 ATK and DEF for each monster in the GYs. Once per turn: You can detach 1 material from this card; until the end of your opponent's next turn, this card cannot be destroyed by card effects, also neither player can Special Summon monsters from the GYs. |
Sanaphond's below average ATK stat can easily be mitigated by its inherent
stat boost putting it near 3000 ATK, especially if there's already some graveyard setup on both sides. Additionally, Sanaphond is able to protect itself from effect destruction while also locking out revival effect. This might be a problem for you since you can't revive Dreary Doll.
Gimmick Puppet Chimera Doll | DARK Machine ATK 1500 / DEF 2 |
Braver Victory [SR] | |
2 Machine monsters During your Main Phase, if you control this Link Summoned card: You can activate this effect; you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except Machine Xyz Monsters, also take 1 "Gimmick Puppet" monster from your Deck, and either add it to your hand or send it to the GY, then, if all monsters you control are "Gimmick Puppet" monsters (min. 1), you can Special Summon 1 "Gimmick Puppet" monster from your hand. You can only use this effect of "Gimmick Puppet Chimera Doll" once per turn. |
Gimmick Puppet Humpty Dumpty | DARK Machine ★4 ATK 0 / DEF 100 |
Darkness Gimmick [R] | |
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 "Gimmick Puppet" monster from your hand. You can only use this effect of "Gimmick Puppet Humpty Dumpty" once per turn. |
A Board Extender that can allows you to special summon 1 "Gimmick Puppet" monster from your hand when it is normal or special summoned. You can use those monsters including Humpty Dumpty to Xyz Summon Rank 4 or 8 Monsters with activating Skill.
Gimmick Puppet Scissor Arms | DARK Machine ★4 ATK 1200 / DEF 600 |
Raid Duel - Giant Grinder: The Meet-and-Greet of Nightmares [UR] | |
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can send 1 "Gimmick Puppet" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. |
Scissor Arms will allows you to sent 1 "Gimmick Puppet" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard while it is Normal Summoned. This effect is good Synergy with Gearspring Spirit since Gearspring need at least 1 and only Machine-Type monster in your Graveyard for special summoning itself.
Gearspring Spirit | DARK Machine ★8 ATK 100 / DEF 100 |
Heart of Xyz [SR] | |
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by having only Machine-Type monsters in your Graveyard (min. 1). Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; its ATK becomes 0 until the End Phase. |
Gearspring Spirit can be special summoned while you have only Machine Type monsters in your Graveyard which is good for Xyz Summon monsters quickly. It's second effect is potential for get rid of some Big Beater and potential OTK for sometimes.
Kiteroid | WIND Machine ★1 ATK 200 / DEF 400 |
Card Trader [SR] | |
Activate when you discard this card from your hand during damage calculation after a direct attack. Any Battle Damage you would receive from that direct attack becomes 0. Only once, if you remove this card from the game when it is in your Graveyard, any Battle Damage you would receive from a direct attack becomes 0. |
Prevents OTKs similar to Sphere Kuriboh. Keep it in your hand to avoid damage from a direct attack, then later banish it from the graveyard to avoid damage from another direct attack.
Perform Puppet | Continuous Spell |
Quattro Lvl 10, 16, and 25 [UR] | |
You can banish 1 "Gimmick Puppet" monster from your GY; all monsters you currently control become that banished monster's Level, until the end of this turn (even if this card leaves the field). If a face-up "Gimmick Puppet" monster(s) you control is destroyed by battle or an opponent's card effect and sent to the GY: You can target 1 of your banished "Gimmick Puppet" monsters; Special Summon it. You can only use each effect of "Perform Puppet" once per turn. |
This can make it more consistent to go for either rank 4 or 8. The banish cost can be an issue since you'll probably want to use Dreary Doll's effect, but this spell's effect of using banished monsters makes it kind of worth it.
Barrage Blast | Continuous Trap |
Heart of Xyz [SR] | |
Once per turn, you can detach any number of materials from Machine Xyz Monsters you control, then target that many cards on the field; destroy them. If a Machine Xyz Monster(s) you control is destroyed by battle or an opponent's card effect while this card is in your GY: You can banish this card and 1 Machine Xyz Monster from your GY; inflict damage to your opponent equal to the banished monster's Rank x 100. |
Barrage Blast is a decent continuous trap with multiple card removal effect if you control Machine Xyz Monsters with at least 2 Xyz Materials.
The second effect will inflict additional damage while your machines Xyz Monster is destroyed by battle or card effect. In this case of this Deck, the amount of damage will be like:
Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon | LIGHT Dragon ★8 ATK 3000 / DEF 2500 |
Phantom of Rebellion [UR] | |
2 Level 8 monsters Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; monsters you control cannot attack your opponent directly for the rest of this turn, except this card, also take control of the targeted monster until the End Phase, but while this effect is applied, it has its effects negated, its ATK becomes 3000, also its name becomes "Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon". |
3000 ATK beater with an effect that lets you temporarily control your opponent's monster. Increasing the ATK to 3000 just means that you can choose a low ATK monster your opponent controls to help as a beater.
Its effect works best if your opponent has at least 2 monsters on the field. If your opponent has another 3000 ATK monster on the field, you can crash it with the one you took control of. If your opponent has another low ATK monster then you can potentially still OTK since the monster you took control of isn't attacking directly.
Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Blade Dragon | LIGHT Dragon ★9 ATK 3200 / DEF 2800 |
Heart of Xyz [SR] | |
3 Level 9 monsters You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a Rank 8 "Galaxy-Eyes" Xyz Monster you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) Cannot be used as an Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it. If this Xyz Summoned card is destroyed by your opponent's attack or card effect and sent to your Graveyard: You can target 1 "Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon" in your Graveyard; Special Summon it. |
A Rank 9 Xyz monster with Card Removal that can be special summoned by using Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon. You can even special summon Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon from your Graveyard while this card is destroyed by your opponent's battle or card effect which can let you have an extra beater.
