Yang Zing: deck recipe [Aug 11]

Duel Links Yang Zing deck, Yang Zing in the current meta, how to use.
update 11/08/2022

Overview

Yang Zing is a synchro-focused deck that's fairly versatile since the main deck monsters have a floating effect that can special summon any Yang Zing from the deck.

The non-tuners also have effects that allow them to synchro summon during the opponent's turn, as well as the ability to give the synchro summoned monster an inherited trait that can make them immune to spells or traps.

How to Play

Yang Zing Tuners

Jiaotu, Darkness of the Yang Zing
Jiaotu, Darkness of the Yang Zing
DARK Wyrm ★2
ATK 0 / DEF 2000
Fantastic Arc [SR]
When this card you control is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to your Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Yang Zing" monster from your Deck in Attack Position, except "Jiaotu, Darkness of the Yang Zing". If you control no other monsters: You can send 2 "Yang Zing" cards from your hand to the Graveyard; Special Summon 1 "Yang Zing" monster with 0 ATK and 1 "Yang Zing" monster with 0 DEF from your Deck, but banish them during the End Phase. You can only use 1 "Jiaotu, Darkness of the Yang Zing" effect per turn, and only once that turn.

This is the combo starter of the deck so you can special summon 2 monsters from the deck to make a synchro. However, it needs to be the only monster on the field. You can do this simply by normal summoning it first, or float into this with your other monsters to block enemy attacks and bring out Jiaotu when you know your opponent can't attack anymore.

With Jiaotu's effect, you can make a level 8 (Baxia, Cyber Slash, etc) with Suanni and Bixi, or Taotie and Pulao. Keep in mind that the non-tuners can give effects to the synchro monster that uses them as materials, so use the pair that you need. Go with Pulao if you want the synchro monster to be immune to spells, while Bixi is to be immune to traps.

The synchro monster options are pretty wide since the other Yang Zing monsters have varying levels. Since Chiwen is a 0 ATK and DEF monster, you can use it as one of the monster to be summoned with Jiaotu so you can special summon any other Yang Zing that you want in the deck.

If you want to make a Hama with a double attack, you'll need to bring a level 7 synchro and use Jiaotu to bring out Taotie and Chiwen. But this combo has no spell/trap protection so it can be risky.

To make a 1 turn Quarion, special summon Taotie and another Jiaotu.

Chiwen, Light of the Yang Zing
Chiwen, Light of the Yang Zing
LIGHT Wyrm ★1
ATK 0 / DEF 0
Fantastic Arc [R]
When this card you control is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to your Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Yang Zing" monster from your Deck, except "Chiwen, Light of the Yang Zing". When a "Yang Zing" monster(s) you control is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the Graveyard, while this card is in your Graveyard: You can Special Summon this card, and if you do, banish it when it leaves the field. You can only use 1 "Chiwen, Light of the Yang Zing" effect per turn, and only once that turn.

A pretty flexible card since it has 0 ATK and DEF so you can use it as one of the filler monster to special summon with Jiaotu. Just keep in mind that it's a tuner so you don't end up making wrong calculations when summoning with Jiaotu.

Since you can only activate 1 of its effect in a single turn, you won't be able to use its floating effect and special summon itself on the same turn. It's recommended to at least float into this once, early in the duel, so that it's in the grave and ready for you to use it on the next turn.

When a Yang Zing monster you control is destroyed, you can float into a level 5, 4, 2, or 1 and special summon Chiwen (a level 1 tuner) from the grave. Since the non-tuner Yang Zings have an effect that allows you to synchro during your opponent's turn, you can potentially block attacks by summoning a high ATK monster or something like Vulcan the Divine or Ally of Justice Catastor.

Yang Zing Monsters

These non-tuners have similar effects where they can also float into another Yang Zing other than itself when they're destroyed, but they can also synchro during your opponent's turn with another Yang Zing, as well as being able to give an additional effect to the synchro monster that uses these as materials.

Quick notes on them:
Taotie - Your opponent won't be able to take control of your monster.
Suanni - Gains 500 ATK and DEF.
Bixi - Immune to traps.
Pulao - Immune to spells.

Since Jiaotu's special summon has a restrictive condition, you'll have to keep in mind their ATK and DEF to see what you can summon. You can't use Jiaotu to bring out Bixi and Pulao since they both have 0 ATK, same with Taotie and Suanni since they both have 0 DEF.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Jiaotu, Bixi, and Pulao when destroyed can ONLY special summon a Yang Zing in ATTACK POSITION. While Taotie and Suanni can only special summon in DEFENSE POSITION. This only matters if you want to be careful with your LP, especially if it's low. Using Jiaotu, Bixi, and Pulao as the floaters can be dangerous if you only have low ATK monsters while floating into a defense position monster is dangerous if your opponent has a piercing effect.

Taotie, Shadow of the Yang Zing
Taotie, Shadow of the Yang Zing
DARK Wyrm ★5
ATK 2200 / DEF 0
Fantastic Arc [R]
When this card you control is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to your Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Yang Zing" monster from your Deck in Defense Position, except "Taotie, Shadow of the Yang Zing". You can only use this effect of "Taotie, Shadow of the Yang Zing" once per turn. Once per turn, during your opponent's Main Phase or Battle Phase, you can: Immediately after this effect resolves, Synchro Summon 1 Synchro Monster, using only "Yang Zing" monsters you control (this is a Quick Effect). Possession of a Synchro Monster on the field that used this card as a Synchro Material cannot switch.
Suanni, Fire of the Yang Zing
Suanni, Fire of the Yang Zing
FIRE Wyrm ★4
ATK 1900 / DEF 0
Fantastic Arc [R]
When this card you control is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to your Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Yang Zing" monster from your Deck in Defense Position, except "Suanni, Fire of the Yang Zing". You can only use this effect of "Suanni, Fire of the Yang Zing" once per turn. Once per turn, during your opponent's Main Phase or Battle Phase, you can: Immediately after this effect resolves, Synchro Summon 1 Synchro Monster, using only "Yang Zing" monsters you control (this is a Quick Effect). A Synchro Monster that used this card as a Synchro Material gains 500 ATK and DEF.
Bixi, Water of the Yang Zing
Bixi, Water of the Yang Zing
WATER Wyrm ★2
ATK 0 / DEF 2000
Fantastic Arc [N]
When this card you control is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to your Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Yang Zing" monster from your Deck in Attack Position, except "Bixi, Water of the Yang Zing". You can only use this effect of "Bixi, Water of the Yang Zing" once per turn. Once per turn, during your opponent's Main Phase or Battle Phase, you can: Immediately after this effect resolves, Synchro Summon 1 Synchro Monster, using only "Yang Zing" monsters you control (this is a Quick Effect). A Synchro Monster that used this card as a Synchro Material is unaffected by Trap effects.
Pulao, Wind of the Yang Zing
Pulao, Wind of the Yang Zing
WIND Wyrm ★1
ATK 0 / DEF 1800
Fantastic Arc [N]
When this card you control is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to your Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Yang Zing" monster from your Deck in Attack Position, except "Pulao, Wind of the Yang Zing". You can only use this effect of "Pulao, Wind of the Yang Zing" once per turn. Once per turn, during your opponent's Main Phase or Battle Phase, you can: Immediately after this effect resolves, Synchro Summon 1 Synchro Monster, using only "Yang Zing" monsters you control (this is a Quick Effect). A Synchro Monster that used this card as a Synchro Material is unaffected by Spell effects.

Yang Zing Creation

Yang Zing Creation
Yang Zing Creation
Continuous Trap
Fantastic Arc [SR]
Once per turn, if a monster(s) you control is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can Special Summon 1 "Yang Zing" monster from your Deck. You cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck, except Synchro Monsters.

Together with the innate floating effect of the Yang Zing monsters, you'll be able to special summon 2 monsters from your deck when a Yang Zing you control is destroyed.

What makes this card great is that it's a continuous trap, and it has no restriction on which Yang Zing or position that you can summon from the deck. You can even special summon another copy of the one just destroyed if you want to.

Oasis of Dragon Souls

Oasis of Dragon Souls
Oasis of Dragon Souls
Continuous Trap
Pendulum Genesis [SR]
Activate this card by targeting 1 monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it in Defense Position. It becomes Wyrm-Type. When this card leaves the field, destroy that monster. When that monster leaves the field, destroy this card.

Oasis is more of a costless revival that can be used to bring back your monsters from your Graveyard including those Yang Zing monsters for protection or Synchro Summoning.

Powerful Rebirth

Powerful Rebirth
Powerful Rebirth
Continuous Trap
Kings Resonance [SR]
Blades of Spirits [SR]
Activate this card by targeting 1 Level 4 or lower monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target. Increase its Level by 1 and ATK and DEF by 100. When that monster is destroyed, destroy this card.

Makes use of the monsters destroyed or discarded with Jiaotu's effect. Since it's a continuous trap, you can use it for Baxia's effect to special summon a monster from the grave too.

Alternatively, you can use Oasis of Dragon Souls instead of Powerful Rebirth. If your opponent uses a backrow removal, you can activate Oasis to special summon a Yang Zing and it will be destroyed right away so you can float into something else.

Extra Decks

Crystron Quariongandrax
Crystron Quariongandrax
WATER Machine ★9
ATK 3000 / DEF 3000
Cybernetic Rebellion [UR]
2 or more Tuners + 1 non-Tuner monster
If this card is Synchro Summoned: You can target monsters your opponent controls and/or in their Graveyard, up to the number of Synchro Materials used for the Synchro Summon of this card; banish them. If this Synchro Summoned card is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can target 1 banished monster, except this card; Special Summon it to your field.

Very strong for its triple monster removals. You make this with Jiaotu's effect to special summon another Jiaotu with Taotie from the deck. Synchroing with Taotie will also make it so that your opponent can't take control of it.

If it's destroyed, you'll be able to special summon a banished monster, making it pretty difficult for your opponent to deal with.

Baxia, Brightness of the Yang Zing
Baxia, Brightness of the Yang Zing
LIGHT Wyrm ★8
ATK 2300 / DEF 2600
Fantastic Arc [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner Wyrm-Type monsters
When this card is Synchro Summoned: You can target cards on the field, up to the number of different original Attributes of the Wyrm-Type monsters used for the Synchro Summon of this card; shuffle them into the Deck. Once per turn: You can target 1 card you control and 1 Level 4 or lower monster in your Graveyard; destroy that card on the field, and if you do, Special Summon that other monster from the Graveyard.

Similar to Quariongandrax, this also gives 3 card removals, but this one is not restricted to just monsters, and it sends them back to the deck, which is situationally better since some decks can use their banish pile.

Synchroing into this also uses a different combination from Quariongrandrax. You can use Suanni with Bixi or Taotie with Pulao to get immunity to spell/trap effects.

If you can clear your opponent's board, you can use its effect to destroy any card you control to bring out Suanni to OTK your opponent.

Battlewasp - Hama the Conquering Bow
Battlewasp - Hama the Conquering Bow
WIND Insect ★8
ATK 2800 / DEF 2000
Witchs Sorcery [UR]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters
If this card was Synchro Summoned using a Synchro Monster as material, it can make a second attack during each Battle Phase. You can only use each of the following effects of "Battlewasp - Hama the Conquering Bow" once per turn.
● When this card inflicts battle damage to your opponent: You can make all monsters your opponent currently controls lose 1000 ATK/DEF.
● At the end of your Battle Phase, if your opponent has not taken any battle damage this Phase: You can inflict 300 damage to your opponent for each "Battlewasp" monster in your GY.

An OTK option since it can attack twice and has high ATK, but you'll need to use certain combinations to make this work, as well as another level 6 or 7 synchro monster in the deck.

Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon
Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon
FIRE Dragon ★7
ATK 2500 / DEF 2000
Force of Infinity [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

When this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 card in your Pendulum Zone; Special Summon it, also this card cannot attack for the rest of this turn. You can only use this effect of "Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon" once per turn. Monsters in your opponent's possession cannot activate their effects during the Battle Phase.

Mainly to disable/prevent monster effects during your battle phase, which can prevent commonly used handtraps that often stalls the duel.

Yazi, Evil of the Yang Zing
Yazi, Evil of the Yang Zing
DARK Wyrm ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 2100
Selection Box Vol.04 Mini [SR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Cannot be targeted by an opponent's card effects. You can only use each of these effects of "Yazi, Evil of the Yang Zing" once per turn.
● You can target 1 "Yang Zing" monster you control and 1 card your opponent controls; destroy them.
● When this card you control is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to your Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 Wyrm-Type monster from your Deck in Defense Position.

A Level 7 Synchro Monster that un-targetable by your opponent's cards effect with a decent 2600 ATK stat. You can use its effect to destroy 1 "Yang Zing" monster you control to bring out Suanni to OTK your opponent. Yazi's floating effect also allows you to bring out 1 other Yang Zing tuner or monster for another synchro combo setup or block enemy from direct attacks.

Vulcan the Divine
Vulcan the Divine
FIRE Beast-Warrior ★6
ATK 2000 / DEF 1600
Soul of Resurrection [SR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
If this card is Synchro Summoned: Target 1 face-up card you control and 1 face-up card your opponent controls; return those targets to the hand, but for the rest of this turn, you cannot activate cards, or the effects of cards, with the same name as those returned to the hand by this effect. You can only use this effect of "Vulcan the Divine" once per turn.

Used together with Oasis of Dragon Souls or Powerful Rebirth. You can also make this during your opponent's turn since the non-tuners have effects that allow you to synchro during their turn. You'll need a Chiwen in the grave and be able to float into Taotie though.

Crystron Ametrix
Crystron Ametrix
WATER Machine ★5
ATK 2500 / DEF 1500
Cybernetic Rebellion [R]
Fantastic Arc [R]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
If this card is Synchro Summoned: You can change all face-up Special Summoned monsters your opponent controls to Defense Position. If this Synchro Summoned card is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can target 1 "Crystron" monster in your Graveyard, except a Synchro Monster; Special Summon it.

Ametrix' battle position changing is already quite good because most enemy boss monsters are Special Summoned and changing them to defense position lets you run them over with Ametrix. Combined with Suanni to Synchro Summon Ametrix during the opponent's turn, letting you disrupt their Battle Phase, and also makes Ametrix's ATK becomes 3000 stat.

Other Synchro Monsters Options

Powered Inzektron
Powered Inzektron
LIGHT Machine ★6
ATK 2500 / DEF 1600
Secrets of the Ancients [SR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monstersWhen this card is Synchro Summoned: This turn, this card cannot be destroyed by battle or by card effects, also you take no damage.

The best time to make Powered Inzektron is during the opponent's turn so you have an indestructible wall up during their Battle Phase. To do this summon Powered Inzektron with Suanni, Bixi, or Pulao's effect.

Samurai Destroyer
Samurai Destroyer
EARTH Machine ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 1400
Dark Dimension [R]
Fantastic Arc [R]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters
If this card battles an opponent's monster, your opponent cannot activate cards or effects until the end of the Damage Step, also that opponent's monster has its effects negated during the Battle Phase only. If this face-up card in its owner's control leaves the field because of an opponent's card effect: You can target 1 Machine monster in your GY; Special Summon it.

Summon Samurai Destroyer as an offensive option. He prevents your opponent from activating effects when he battles, stopping battle traps and disruption like Sphere Kuriboh and Kiteroid, letting all of Samurai Destroyer's attacks go through.

Assuming he does not get changed to defense position, your opponent would most likely get rid of Samurai Destroyer with removal effects before he battles. This is where his floating effect becomes useful to float into any of the Machines in your graveyard, including Synchro monsters and Samurai Destroyer himself. This floating effect can be triggered by any form of removal, making it somewhat unavoidable.

Monsters battling Samurai Destroyer have their effects negated. This makes Samurai Destroyer a good way to get rid of monsters without triggering their floating effects. You can also attack into monsters and ignore their self ATK boosts.

Other Cards Option

Masked Chameleon

Masked Chameleon
Masked Chameleon
EARTH Reptile ★4
ATK 1600 / DEF 1100
Selection Box Vol. 03 [UR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned if you control a Level 5 or higher monster. When this card is Normal Summoned: You can target 1 monster with 0 DEF in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target in face-up Defense Position. Its effects are negated. You cannot Special Summon any other monsters, except from the Extra Deck, during the turn you activate this effect.

Useful support to help with making some plays since it can be considered a 1 card synchro that's somewhat efficient.

This can only special summon 0 DEF monster, but since it's also a tuner, the only good options are Taotie and Suanni, which can be used to make a level 8 or 9 synchro.

Invoked Engine

This gives the deck access to a very powerful high ATK monster with multiple attacks for some high OTK potential.

However, you'll need to use Suanni since it's the only FIRE attribute monster in the deck, but it's not really a big issue since Suanni can be reliably summoned from the deck with any of the other Yang Zings or Jiaotu's effect.

Aleister the Invoker
Aleister the Invoker
DARK Spellcaster ★4
ATK 1000 / DEF 1800
Dark Dimension [UR]
(Quick Effect): You can send this card from your hand to the GY, then target 1 Fusion Monster you control; it gains 1000 ATK/DEF until the end of this turn. If this card is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up: You can add 1 "Invocation" from your Deck to your hand.
Invocation
Invocation
Normal Spell
Dark Dimension [UR]
Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, using monsters from your hand as Fusion Material. If Summoning an "Invoked" Fusion Monster this way, you can also banish monsters from your field and/or either player's GY as Fusion Material. If this card is in your GY: You can target 1 of your banished "Aleister the Invoker"; shuffle this card into the Deck, and if you do, add that card to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Invocation" once per turn.
Invoked Purgatrio
Invoked Purgatrio
FIRE Fiend ★8
ATK 2300 / DEF 2000
Aerial Assault [UR]
"Aleister the Invoker" + 1 FIRE monster
This card gains 200 ATK for each card your opponent controls. This card can attack all monsters your opponent controls, once each. If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.

Other Extra Decks

Hot Red Dragon Archfiend
Hot Red Dragon Archfiend
DARK Dragon ★8
ATK 3000 / DEF 2000
Pendulum Genesis [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Once per turn, during your Main Phase 1: You can destroy all other face-up Attack Position monsters on the field. Monsters other than this card cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.

Has non-targeting monster removal effect and high base ATK.

Cyber Slash Harpie Lady
Cyber Slash Harpie Lady
WIND Winged Beast ★8
ATK 2600 / DEF 1400
Sign of Harpies [UR]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters
For this card's Synchro Summon, you can treat 1 "Harpie" monster you control as a Tuner. This card's name becomes "Harpie Lady" while on the field or in the GY. When a Spell/Trap Card or effect is activated (except during the Damage Step) (Quick Effect): You can target 1 monster your opponent controls or 1 "Harpie" monster you control; return it to the hand. You can only use this effect of "Cyber Slash Harpie Lady" once per turn.

Strong monster removal option and useful to disrupt your opponent's turn as well.

Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
WATER Sea Serpent ★6
ATK 2300 / DEF 1400
Aerial Assault [UR]
Selection Box Vol.04 [UR]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters
You can discard any number of cards to the GY, then target the same number of cards your opponent controls; return those cards to the hand. You can only use this effect of "Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier" once per turn.

Can return multiple cards in a single turn and is somewhat easy to make because of Jiaotu and the floating effects.

Archfiends Call
Archfiends Call
DARK Fiend ★6
ATK 2500 / DEF 1200
Raid Duel - The Flame of Vengeance: Ccapac Apu! [SR]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters
This card's name becomes "Summoned Skull" on the field, but is still treated as an "Archfiend" card. Your opponent cannot target any "Summoned Skull" you control with card effects. If this Synchro Summoned card you control is sent to your GY by an opponent's card: You can Special Summon 1 "Summoned Skull" from your hand, Deck, or GY.

Decent ATK and is untargetable, which can be enough against certain opponents that rely on targeting effects. It can also be used to synchro up into higher levels.

Ally of Justice Catastor
Ally of Justice Catastor
DARK Machine ★5
ATK 2200 / DEF 1200
The King of Vermillion [SR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
At the start of the Damage Step, if this card battles a non-DARK monster: Destroy that monster.

Useful to block attacks since it covers a lot of monsters. You can summon this during your opponent's turn if you have Chiwen in the grave and can float into a Suanni from the deck.

Armory Arm
Armory Arm
LIGHT Machine ★4
ATK 1800 / DEF 1200
The King of Vermillion [SR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Once per turn, you can either: Target 1 monster on the field; equip this card to that target, OR: Unequip this card and Special Summon it in Attack Position. While equipped by this effect, that target gains 1000 ATK. If that target destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: Inflict damage to your opponent equal to the ATK of the destroyed monster in the Graveyard.

To help unclog your field if you try to make a play but gets interrupted.
