If this card battles an opponent's monster, your opponent cannot activate cards or effects until the end of the Damage Step, also that opponent's monster has its effects negated during the Battle Phase only. If this face-up card in its owner's control leaves the field because of an opponent's card effect: You can target 1 Machine monster in your GY; Special Summon it.

Pros

  • Prevents your opponent from using effects during battle.
  • Negates the effect of the monster it battles.
  • Revives a Machine monster.

Cons

  • Revival effect relies on the opponent’s action.
  • Can be costly to summon.
  • No protection outside of battle.

Tips

  • Because the opponent monster’s effect is negated during battle, Samurai Destroyer can remove monsters with battle destruction immunity.
  • Self stat boosts by your opponent’s monsters are also ignored by Samurai Destroyer.

Summoning

This card works well in a Morphtronic or Karakuri deck because of their ability to Synchro Summon level-7 monsters with Morphtronic Scopen and Karakuri Komachi mdl 224 “Ninishi” respectively. Additionally they are both Machine decks so you can sometimes pull off Samurai Destroyer’s floating effect.

Aside from that, any deck capable of making level-7 Synchros can use Samurai Destroyer as an Extra Deck toolbox.

Similar Effects

Lots of monsters are able to prevent your opponent from activating some card effects during the battle, most notably the Ancient Gear archetype. Samurai destroy and the cards listed below are able to prevent your opponent from activating all card effects during battle.

Star Eater has a different approach to this. Instead of preventing your opponent from activating card effects, it makes itself immune to all card effects.

How do you counter this card if you're using a Superheavy deck?

So..., are y'all suggesting me to just hit surrender as soon as my opponent summons it if I'm using Samurais (Superheavy, Six, Shiranui)?
<< Anonymous(Zachary's BFF)
Anonymous Reply
Yes, Heavy Samurais can do nothing against a single Samurai destroyer.
So pressing the surrender button means that Samurai destroyer won't be able to attack you anymore, effectively negating the monster.
<< Anonymous
Zachary's BFF Reply
Yup. Attacking directly with Stealth Ninja, with Soulhorns and Soulshield if possible, seems to be the only way...

Lately I've been using a few lvl 7+ Ancient Gear machines (relatively easy to summon tributing Waraji, and SHS decks tend to keep the field crowded anyways). All of their ATKs > SamuraiDestroyer's.

So far it's not bad.

i got it with 100 gems

Wow, I started buying packs in order to get this card which is only a rare (6x in the box), and I wound up getting Palladium, Aleister, Molehu, Necrovalley Throne, 2x Magellanica, Berry Magician Girl, 2x Green Gadget, Red Gadget, Palace of the Elemental Lords, and Network Trap Hole, before finally getting one of this card.

I really wish they would put Metalron in Duels links. Especially to combat that annoying Reverse Trap deck

They have Canadia, which is indeed a very strong card. It destroys all equip spell you equip on your monster.

I'm trying to use this guy in a blue eyes deck but I don't see any easy way to synchro him with stone of the ancients.

Anyone knows an easy to summon level 6 non-tuner monster ?

Chaos Sorcerer, The Fiend Megacyber, Junk Giant, Lightpulsar Dragon, Mana Dragon Zirnitron, Parry Knights, Fortune Fairy Chee, Soul of Purity and Light, Laval Lancelord, Majestic Mech - Ohka, Hazy Flame Cerbereus

There are some more but those are some good candidates

Those cards look great by themselves.

I'm not sure it synergies well with other blue eyes cards but it can be worth it.

For some reason, i feel like Konami doesn't want people to use Samurai destroyer in blue eyes deck.

Yeah, most of them don't have a good synergy with Blue-Eyes. Even though Soul of Purity and Light, Lightpulsar Dragon or Chaos Sorcerer can easily be included in most Blue-Eyes decks.

Konami doesn't want blue eyes players to counter Yubel or chocolate magician XD

Why it can't negate effect of wall of distribution and drowning mirror force trap cards

Are you attacking directly? Just read the card text again.

turn 1 (psi-reflector) > samurai destroyer is very strong.

cool

For some reason this card can negate the opponent's attack reduction/increase effects several turns after they resolved. I don't really understand why.

World legacy clash's reduces Samurai destroyer's attack, however, during battle it's attack is back to normal.

Clash is not a monster effect but a spell's.

Someone can explain ?

Do you have a replay? SD can't negate Spell/Trap effects. Or was it sent to the GY at some time and revived itself?
<< Anonymous
FC_T Reply
No specific replay but I was watching a lot of youtubers "Duel link meta" etc..

At one point the guy attacked a zero attack samurai destroyer but it's attack got back to normal.

I can't find the exact video again, there are so much on youtube.
