Once per turn: You can banish 1 Dragon-Type monster from your Graveyard, then target 1 monster you control; it gains 700 ATK, until the End Phase (even after this card leaves the field or the monster becomes unaffected by card effects). When this face-up card on the field is sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 of your banished Dragon-Type monsters; Special Summon that target. You can only control 1 "Castle of Dragon Souls".

Pros

700 attack increase to any monster you control, by using a Dragon-type monster on your graveyard as the resource.
Can special summon a banished monster when it gets destroyed.

Cons

Needs a Dragon-type monster on the graveyard to use the first effect.
Second effect requires it to be sent to the graveyard to be able to special summon.

Tips

Cards of the Red Stone

Cards of the Red Stone lets you send 2 Red-Eyes monster to the graveyard and draw 2 cards, so you can use Castle of Dragon Souls twice, but banishing the Red-Eyes in the process.

You can special summon the banished monsters without having to send the trap card to the graveyard using these cards.

Card Breaker

Magic Planter

Cards like Card Breaker, or Anteatereatingant can send it to the graveyard and special summon a monster on top of the one special summoned from Castle of Dragon Souls' effect, can be good to set up for a tribute summon. Magic Planter lets you draw 2 cards by destroying your continuous trap cards to not clog your field. Otherwise, regular spell/trap destroying cards like Storm, or Twister can already work.

I have been using the techniques as described above with this card, but everytime I try one of these combos (like with storm), it says I keep missing the timing. Explanations?

This card has "When.." in its effect, that's why. "When" effects only work when their condition is the las thing to happen in a chain.

If you send this card to gy using the ant monster the last thing that happens is ant being summoned so this card misses the timing

chain this with double cyclone for a 700 boost + backrow removal + a free summon from banish zone.

Storm doesn't work neither does double cyclone. Perhaps I shouldn't chain it

Yes, its effect misses the timing if you destroy it on Chain Link 2 or higher. You shouldn't chain Double Cyclone to its activation.

Storm will not cause its effect to miss the timing if your opponent has no Spell/Trap Cards to destroy.

Works well especially with tyrant dragon, remove blue eyes target tyrant dragon with the traps effect. Tyrant dragon negates and destroys it. Then trap special summons Blue Eyes

Everyone here says that, in some cases, destroying this card causes Time waster warning. It happened to me when I had tried to use the "Parallel Twister", but why it happens? time??? the card description does not describe a condition about how you should destroy it.
Someone can explains me better pls and which cards should work on this case and why they work after all while others dont.

A good way to use Darkblaze is to use Peak Performance with Kaiba and target the Mountain or to drop an equipped dragon from a Paladin of Falgrand.

Sometimes, when desperate, I'll use a Wild Tornado to destroy my own Castle, but that's a net -1. When you do that, you have to say No when Wild Tornado asks whether you want to set a spell/trap to avoid missing the timing.

Oh, I forgot one. A fun (and slightly chancey) way to use the second effect is with Magical Hats. If they attack the Castle, it flips face-up, goes to the graveyard, and its effect activates. This catches people off-guard.

the 2nd effect kinda confusing, so activate storm first then chain this card 1st effect?

then if i use twister/double cyclone, flip the trap first then use the twister then use the 1st effect?

The two effects are unrelated. (You can use the second effect without having ever used the first effect.) As long as it's face-up and it being sent to the Graveyard was the last thing to happen, you can use it. (Storm will cause it to miss its timing if you destroy any opponent's cards. Incidentally, most of the tips on this page to trigger that effect don't work due to this, lol.)

Double Cyclone and A Wingbeat of Giant Dragon are probably the best options available. (Actually, your Tyrant Dragon idea's pretty solid, too.) It is harder to use than a card like Dark Coffin or Blast with Chain since it can miss its timing, though.

So in a sense, can we just possibly use the second effect instead of using the first effect first? Like, I will banish a BEWD and a REBD to special summon Darkflare, then just destroy the trap card to use its second effect to be able to summon either BEWD or REBD?

Yes, and I think it's the "true" way to play this card for combos.

u r right. like u said misses timing. i use monster effect to destroy all spell/trap card on the field but it just don't work as i thought.

I want the next mini box to have Alexandrite Dragon and Spirit of the White as the two ultra rares. And why not Dragon Shrine as super rare on top. The good old BEWD is not playable these days!! :(

I'm expecting Alexandrite Dragon to be one of the cards Mokuba gains in the upcoming level expansion. Makes too much sense. (And there aren't a lot of obvious cards to give him, especially given the Structure Deck.)
