Mermail Abysstrite	WATER Sea Serpent ★3 ATK 1600 / DEF 2800

3 Level 3 monsters During either player's turn, when your opponent targets exactly 1 face-up "Mermail" monster you control for an attack, or with a Spell/Trap effect that could have targeted this card (except during the Damage Step): You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; that attack/effect now targets this card. When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 "Mermail" monster in your Graveyard, except "Mermail Abysstrite"; Special Summon that target.

Abysstrite is quite costly to make for its "lightning rod"-like effect. In case of enemy attacks, Abysstrite has a good chance of surviving with its 2800 DEF stat. But against targeting effects, this will most likely destroy Abysstrite because she has no inherent protection. While inefficient, some form of protection is technically better than no protection at all for an Abyssmegalo beside Abysstrite.

And at least she floats when destroyed. You can float into Abysspike, activate its effect and discard an Atlantean to destroy whatever destroyed Abysspike.

100 damage is nothing, unless you go first with nightmare as starter hand. Otherwise goodluck with disruption

No amount of burn cards is gonna be enough. Their best shot is to be played as an otk deck with lyco, corobane and the field spell. And even at that they are midstars at best

Unfortunately that probably won’t ever happen- Gustkraken + Mind Augus enables FTKs and handlooping while Zeil is a 3200 attack OTK enabler that can also draw and spin cards for easy advantage.

Built this deck just with 6k gems (a bit less actually) because I already had Mermail Abyssmegalo

I've got all mermails from Gaia Genesis and played lots of pvp duels with it, and in my opinion the only mermail deck with some potential in the current meta is, still, the abyssbalaen OTK, as it can basically wipe out the entire board while summoning 2 or 3 big monsters. Nonetheless, the deck suffers from consistency issues and is also very risky, as you have to discard 4 cards to summon abyssbalaen, so if you can't otk your opponent for any reason and he manages to destroy your monsters on his next turn, your comeback ability is basically unexistent (although the same could be said about other decks, like AG). That being said, when the XYZ era comes, this deck will really shine, what makes me think that maybe we are getting the Zexal world still this year, as this new box brought mermail support and finally brought cyber dragon, two really strong archetypes in the XYZ engine.

Quite a few are. Megalo, infantry, spike, and marksman make up a lot of the bread and butter for mermails. Good luck getting them!

Linde from this box is also a big plus. And another thing to consider is if you want synchro version with Diva or not. Expect probably around 40k+ gems for expensive version of Mermails.

Am I the only one who noticed that whoever wrote this article messed up Marksman's and Infantry's effects?

Surprised more people don't play this. Ive had firsthand experience with how hard this deck can OTK, and unlike Koaki, it has a way to counter traps. Guess its just overlooked or something

Yes mermail can OTK hard, but when it bricked, it bricked hard too.

Sure the new supports give better synergy and make the deck more playable in higher level, we'll see how far they can go.

I think it can reach Legend easily, and you are pretty much right about traps being its main weakness.
