No official date, but we assume it's going to be this weekend (Jan 12/13), similar to last year (which was Jan 12).

Did they git rid of the secondary effect of 4000 lp damage or was that anime only

There was never any 4000 LP damage effect, that was Obelisk attacking after it nuked the field.

However, the real life version makes it so that you cannot attack with Obelisk after you nuked the field, to make it more fair/balanced.

No, you are wrong. In the anime, Obelisk can inflict damage with its effect and also attack directly if the board is empty. That makes 8000 damage per turn

It's hard to tell if it actually inflicts damage or not. That effect is used ONCE in the entire series, against the Rare Hunters in the alley, and one of them (unsuccessfully) activated Mirror Force in response.

I guess its vague-ass Japanese text does mention damaging the opponent, though.

Floodgate Trap Hole doesn't negate Summons. The effect of Obelisk that prevents cards being activated in response to its Normal Summon will prevent Floodgate Trap Hole, though. (But there's nothing stopping you from Floodgating an Obelisk that was Flip or Special Summoned.)

You can, after obelisk is flipped face down by any card effects. Gonogo etc.

Then, you can flip summon obelisk
