Yes, you are matched against someone of your same dlv, if you are in silver but you climb to dlv 10 you may be matched with a KoG player that just started his kc cup climb

Idk if the gems reward is worth the effort climbing in kc cup

It really worth. That actually reason why players play this event.

The one that isn't worth is the 2nd stage

Stage 1 kc cup needs far less effort than getting KoG. Stage one KCup is the best period to play dl. Players use different decks since it is quite easy to get to 2nd stage. I have managed to get there with decks like buster blader, red eyes, fl, metaphys etc.
2nd stage is just sh1t. You only face the 2-3 tier 1 decks, all the time.
