If you're a new player, it's recommended to properly plan in advance what deck you want to make first. With the amount of gems given to new players in the beginning, most players will be able to at least make a solid deck, or maybe even 2, but can be a struggle from then on. If you're willing to pay and buy gems, you'll be able to try more decks easily.
If you plan on being very competitive, it's recommended to check what the current meta decks are so you can focus on those decks. Alternatively, you can build a deck based on what you get, or try fun/rogue/budget decks.
Either way, you can't go wrong by starting with the bundle deals that guarantees Solemn Judgment, Lightning Storm, or Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.
These can only be purchased once per player for 750 gems each. These cards are often used in many decks, even in top tier competitive ones. The safest choice is Ash Blossom, but the other 2 are more useful to help climb low ranks. You don't really need to buy all 3, especially since they can still be obtained through crafting.
Once you buy the bundle, you will unlock secret packs for archetypes of cards that you got. If you managed to unlock the archetype that you wanted, you can focus on that pack right away by heading over to Shop -> Pack -> "Secret Pack" tab on the left side.
If you didn't get the secret pack of the one you wanted, you have the option of either buying more packs or dismantle the SR/UR cards that you got and didn't need. This is so that you can craft specific cards instead and will also unlock that archetype's secret pack. If you want to continue by buying more packs, instead of buying the other bundles, you can consider the main packs instead.
Normal packs change every so often, as shown by the remaining days left on the screen. You can view the cards included in the pack by selecting one and select the "Cards included in this pack" tab.
Based on the currently available options. Stalwart Force contains the boss monsters of certain archetypes that are very good for competitive play: Tri-Brigade, Eldlich, Sky Striker, and Shaddoll.
Revival of Legends contains some signature cards like Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon, Stardust Dragon, and Firewall Dragon.
Lastly, the Master Pack simply contains everything else that's available in the game and is not a "focused" pack. You can potentially get some good staples out of it, but it's generally not recommended to go for Master Pack.
Secret packs are "unlocked" when you obtain cards from a certain archetype, whether it's through crafting or opening packs. These are only available for 24 hours after you unlock them and will go away after the time is up. You can unlock them again via the same method as before.
The ideal way of unlocking a specific secret pack is by getting lucky and get a card from that archetype when you open packs, but you can do this more reliably and efficiently by crafting cards instead.
However, if the archetype that you want to make is in Stalwart Force or Revival of Legends, you can try buying single packs instead of doing multi pulls. This gives you a chance to draw something from the archetype that you want without having to commit with 1000 gems right away. The only drawback is that a multi-pull guarantees 1 SR, while single pulls don't.
These are essentially focused packs to help build a specific archetype. While they may not always necessarily have all that you need for a complete deck, these are much better use of gems to get to what you want to make. You'll still need some useful staple cards here and there, but they can be crafted by dismantling unneeded cards.
In the deck editor screen, you can search for a specific card by typing its name in the search box. Make sure to also enable the filter that shows cards you don't own by tapping on the button next to the search box.
Once you find the card that you want, tap the "How to Obtain" button below the card description. This will show what secret packs they're in. Of course, the master pack contains pretty much all cards so it's always going to be one of the options.
Searching for cards this way is also a good way to check and make sure if the card/deck you want to make involves cards that are in the forbidden/limited list.
You can check the full list of Forbidden/Limited cards through the home screen and tap the menu button on the top right, then under the "How To Play/Settings" -> Forbidden/Limited.
In order to craft cards, you'll need to use a certain rarity CP, which you can get by dismantling cards of the same rarity. Basic Finish (non-foil) gives 10 CP, Glossy Finish gives 15, while Royal Finish gives 30.
Since Astrograph Sorcerer is a limited to 1 card, it's not recommended to craft it since you might get it from opening the secret pack later. Instead, you can find cards that are also from the same secret pack and craft that one instead. In this example, crafting Performapal Celestial Magician still unlocks the Counterswing Mages, which is the same secret pack as Astrograph Sorcerer.
You don't necessarily craft UR cards to do this, you can find SR rarity cards to craft to unlock a certain secret pack.
Last thing to keep in mind is that it's recommended to use CPs sparingly. Cards like Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Maxx C, or Called by the Grave are examples of strong staple cards used in just about any deck, and it's not available in any secret pack but only from Master Pack, which means that crafting them is the most reliable way to get them.
