Ok so is it normal that you can't use trap cards that reduce effect damage like "damage diet" or even "damage vaccine" to lower the LP cost of using photomirror? Is it even effect damage?

Doesn't work, the LP payment is done when resolving the card, therefore it is part of the effect and not a cost.

I know I was happy for another ritual-based archetype to be introduced into Duel Links... but I never played Gishki in any of the other games or IRL. In Duel Links... this spell doesn't seem worth it.

In DL..its unfortunately not.
2000 LP for the questionable lv 4 & 3k LP for the better lv 6. Its a cool last resort in normal play, but here, 🔥, they are even missing their better 2 Ritual Summons.

However...combine Psylocke (Lv4 Ritual) + Photomirror and you get Bastion's Water skill immediately. So there's that.
