Anyone knows if using Hardened Armed Dragon is supposed to block the Earthbound's passive of destroying itself if there's no field spell?

You are absolutely correct. An Earthbound monster summoned by tributing Hardened Armed Dragon won´t destroy itself via its own effect if a Field spell isn´t in play.

Worse version of Magic Reflector + It clogs your field. Not worth it.

Then you are using it wrong.

Magic Reflector doesn't also prevent your opponent from activating a Field Spell.

This card trolls AG, Elementsaber, Triamid, Vampire, basically any deck that needs to get their Field Spell up.
