As per basic rules from TCG game, once your LP reaches 0 all actions from the duel are stoped and the player that LP dropped to 0 is declared the loser, for this reason you cannot activate golden apples, and for this same reason even if you would add an Exodia Piece in the middle of a chain if your LP reaches 0 before the chain resolves you still lose the game.
