Can someone explain to me what I'm missing? So I had overwhelm face down and as long as your 7 star monster is TRIBUTE SUMMONED, you can activate it(excluding special summon) I used cost down to bring dark magician down 2 stars, and used legion of fiend jester to TRIBUTE summon Dark magician on the field. No where in any of those cards does the words special summon come up thus sticking by the rule that I tribute summoned and not special summoned. So how was I not able to activate overwhelm when a trap was activated against me?

Your card is no longer level 7

if you set it the same turn you couldnt activate it or if it already was on the field but during the turn you used cost down then dark magician would have been to low lvl (lvl 5) for overwelm activation requirment

Didn't I answer this for you earlier? A Lv 5 monster couldn't trigger Overwhelm if you tried, only lv 7 or higher. You'd have to wait for the next turn, when Cost Down dissipates. Also the other thing as well, Overwhelm needs to be face-down the turn before.

Not sure, is there any card on field that prevents trap activation?
Did you set the trap on that turn? (Trap cannot be used on the turn you set it)
