Ancient rules says you can only summon normal monster and my opponent summoned an effect monster

I have never been able to use ancient rules to summon my buster blader but an opponent of mind summed a dragon spirit of white. How is that possible?

Dragon Spirit of White is a Gemini monster, so it is treated as a Normal monster whilst in the hand and face-up field. You can then normal summon it again to get its Gemini effect

That's because Dragon Spirit of White is treated as a normal monster while it's in the hand, per its card text. Since Ancient Rules is only concerned with the monster while it's in the hand, it can summon Dragon Spirit of White. Buster Blader, on the other hand is an effect monster, and nowhere in its text does it say that it should be treated as a normal monster while it's in the hand, so it's not a valid target for Ancient Rules.

While in your hand or graveyard, Dragon Spirit of White is treated as a normal monster. It only gains it effect on the field.
This card is great for blue eyes decks, and there are usually faster ways to bring it out. Always make sure to read each card you and your opponent has to make sure you can play your best :) Have a great day friend!
