Spell Counters... Don't work?

With Magical Citadel of Endymion active on my field, when a monster with a spell counter is sacrificed from me, it's spell counter is not transferred to the magical citadel of Endymion. Am I wrong in something or it's a bug?

Citadel of Endymion only gets SC when the monster or card is destroyed (either battle or card effect).
Tributing the monster, returning it to the Deck, etc. won't transfer the SC.
