Newbie here, what packs should I be getting.

I strongly agree with the two previous comments. However, it depends what you wanna prioritise. Ult Rising, Neo Impact and Valkyrie's Rage, in addition to having a lot of staples like Sphere Kuriboh and Mirror Wall, have a lot of cards necessary for farming. Since some of the best cards in the game come from farming, I'd suggesst pulling from these first. I mean, you need them Enemy Controllers boooiiii(gaaalllll)!!! After that, Dawn of Destiny's prolly the best investment now, Naturia's dang cheap, and a Phoenix deck'll probs be really good with all the control decks running around. In conclusion, get stuff for farming before you think about pvp!!! :)

I will say, go for Dawn of Destiny, you can have very good deck with ONLY naturia cards + super rush headlong + kaiba beatdown skill. And that box ONLY 80packs, it's way cheaper than 200packs box to get the cards you need.
After you get your basic naturia decks, you can move on to slowly collect other cards you need like kuribo, mirror wall, etc. That what I suggest.

Sorry, looks like you got a troll comment. General consensus is that Ultimate Rising is the way to go. The combination of Sonic Bird (needed for Ritual Decks) and Sphere Kuriboh (always needed) plust BEUD and a large number of generally strong cards is good. If you want to go the Ritual deck route, I would also recommend Neo-Impact for Senju if the Thousand Arms as well as Mirror Wall and Paladin of White Dragon.

Those are the hot cards for PvP. Another thing to think about is which deck you'd like to work towards for farming LDs. There are a number of lists here. I found the Sad Girl deck with Piranha Army as the finisher the easiest to construct (at least a version of it that works).

Sadly, what I did in reality was to collect a full set from Flame of the Tyrant, which has let me build a fairly potent pyro deck, but not a deck that will last into PvP or higher level SD play so I'm a little stuck now. I'd start with Ultimate Rising and Neo-Impact and go from there based on which cards you need. Obviously the cards you REALLY need from the packs are the Super Rares and Ultra Rares, so expect to be getting a crap ton of decks and converting most of the cards until you have full sets.
