Events have no relation to AI. The real reason they make auto duel AI dumb is to force you to play the game, because you're the duelist, you're the one who is supposed to play.
Auto Duel is originally just meant to teach newbies the basics, how to play the game with the cards they have. And Konami wants to stick to that.
