The real problem here is players like you forcing it on to competitive play when it was never meant to. Now that your favorite cards are gone for it, ya now blame RE & call it trash 'coz you abused it. Funny how YuGiOh & competitive Ban lists work huh?
Come on, you've got to admit Normal Monsters in general have always been inferior to Effect Monsters; it's just the nature of the game. Normal decks NEED cards like CV to compete. Otherwise, the strongest Normal still dies to simple removal.
There's a saying in Yugioh that life points don't matter, I'd add that Attack points don't matter either. Card Advantage matters most.
That's also the reason Normal cards have a crapton of support cards; not only in general, but also currently in the game. However, with how easy you CAN get a RE on the field (w/ all its support cards), CV is a near costless card to be playing that covers nearly all bases. There's still other cards to replace CV w/, you just need effort to make them work.
High Lv Normals don't really have a "crapton of support cards". Most in-game Normal support, (OTC, Painful Decision, HotU, EFR, etc.) overwhelmingly favor low lv Normal decks.
The only real exceptions are revival cards like Birthright, which have potential, but can't make Vanillas top tier alone. That was where CV stepped in to make those decks worth playing, but now, they are worthless.
But not EVERYTHING has to be "Top Tier" to be playable. Can you see now why its not the cards fault its the way it is, but the player's/community's fault for rying to push it out of its current/mainstay..."tier"? I love RE and will always play it, but players like you only care for Meta bs.
So now, leave RE & its "worthlessness" alone, go make more Meta decks elsewhere.
Agree when some player makes the deck as burn - No fun/No counter. In Red-Eyes case it's counter Vanilla Red-Eyes. Those one side play style always welcome ban list
